Subsequent update of record, long time to appear in Journalized View

Hi,
I'm running some integration tests that do an insert into a source table, commits the insert, updates that record, commits the update. The cscn numbers are widely spaced, for example, the insert is 69997742 and the update is 70000579. I have a scheduled scenario running every few minutes that as a first step, extends window and locks subscriber.
What I'm seeing is the Insert will get propagated to the target immediately, but then the cscn number doesn't change for a long time, and at some random time in the future it will be updated and the update record will make it throguh to the target. I'm seeing time differences of 7 - 11 minutes between the arrival of the insert to the target and the arrival of the update.
Does anyone know how to decrease this "latency", is there a way of speeding up the time it takes for the cscn number to increment?
I found the following two tuning commands and have tried them, but I'm still seeing a long period of time between the insert and update,
begin dbms_capture_adm.alter_capture(capture_name=>'CDC$C_SAMS_INTEG', checkpoint_retention_time => 7); end;
begin dbms_capture_adm.set_parameter('CDC$C_SAMS_INTEG', 'parallelism','4'); end;
Any ideas would be appreciated!
Cheers
Damian

We temporarily solved the problem by switching to synchronous CDC. When we ran a performance analyzer over the database while data capture was taking place we found logmnr was taking around 6 minutes to query the data dictionary which looked like this bug: https://metalink2.oracle.com/metalink/plsql/ml2_documents.showDocument?p_database_id=NOT&p_id=458214.1 which is apparently fixed. So the either the bug isnt fixed or we haven't configured the database correctly. Anyone know a good tutorial for getting the right configuration for archive logging, number of redo logs and their size, and retention policies etc?

  • Outlook 2010: Draft emails taking a very long time to appear when moved from user to user

    Hi all,
    One of our users (user 1) has full access to another's mailbox (user 2). When user 1 creates a draft email and moves it to user 2's draft box it can take a LONG time to appear.
    I understand that a lot of Exchange processes can take up to 24 hours to process - as far as I am aware this is not one of these instances?
    Any advice is appreciated.

    So it will finally get transferred to the target mailbox. Does it only happen to draft messages? What about other messages?
    After moving the message, please check on the OWA (Outlook Web App) and see if the message appears in the target mailbox. Also, please make sure you are on a stable network connection while moving the messages between these two mailboxes.

    The ipod is not a backup device.  The music sync is one way - computer to ipod.  the exception is itunes purchases.  Without syncing:  File>Transfer Purchases
    Copy everything from your old computer, or your backup copy of your old comptuer, to your new one.

  • Saved files take a long time to appear on Server or Desktop

    We have a network of nearly 40 macs, Panther Server, mostly panther clients but the newer machines are on 10.4.
    All of the newer machines exhibit the problem in that files saved to the server or to the desktop take a long time to appear.
    It appears to be a refresh issue, as on the server other clients can see the file straight away and locally the files can be seen on the desktop via the terminal.
    Force quitting the finder forces the files to appear but this is not a solution.
    The clients which have the problem all run 10.4 and the Server is 10.3. The 10.3 clients do not exhibit the same issues.

    I have also seen this issue at one of my larger clients (50+ workstations).
    The issues seems isolated to 10.4.5 or higher. Our workstations with 10.4.2 did not exhibit this problem. It is not an issue with hardware (we have seen this on an iBook G3 and various G5 tower models). Nor does it appear to be server-related: we have seen the issue saving locally with no servers mounted. We have seen the issue when saving from Adobe CS apps, MS Office apps, and from system apps (like TextEdit). Deleting com.apple.finder.plist from the user's home Library and then relaunching the Finder gets relief for a short time but the problem returns soon after. plutil reports the file is OK. The volume directory is fine, the permissions check out, and caches have been purged, to no avail.
    Like you, summersault, I am able to see the saved file on the command line, and when my users Force Quit the Finder, the file appears. Other workarounds, like the Nudge contextual menu, do not work.
    I have submitted the error via apple.com/feedback and would encourage you to do the same.
    Anxiously awaiting 10.4.7...

  • Replication update statement takes long time

    Hi Replication experts,
    I have a issue and please suggest if my understanding and solution is correct.
    We have a transactional replication setup for data warehouse, from today morning replication got huge latency so when I looked into it I saw the "sp_MSupd_< tablename >" was running for very long time and by this time it was running for 9 hours
    still no data was updated, Latency went very high. What we feel is that the index maintenance was not done in subscriber also it was not replicated too. So due to high fragmentation the update statement could take very long.
    As there was no error message or blocks found all we see is the update taking very long. So to avoid this we are planning to remove the index, as this is just data warehouse index maintenance is not required by removing we can gain some space too. Is this a
    good Idea to implement?
    When we ran profiler nothing was found, no error or alert logged.
    Please let me know your suggestions
    Thanks
    Best Regards Moug

    Hi All,
    The Issue we found to be is that a day before, new column was added to the table and 9000 rows were updated ... This caused the distributor to slow down the update operation as the index in subscriber(15 million rows) was updating every time  a row
    is updated.. So we suspect that adding a new column and updating it at the same time is the culprit..
    But still am not convinced as per my understanding the distributor operates by comparing the primary key of publisher that was changed with the primary key of the subscriber and apply those change.. If that is the case why should it worry about the new column
    added or the number of updates..
    Also one strange thing is another table was also lagging behind in its operation ,though that table was updated with just 18 rows.. So in a nutshell the update operation was totally down by distributor operation on that day..
    Can someone please shed some light on this, Replication is my favorite topic but now I got fear of it.. after failing to know what could be issue...
    Best Regards Moug

  • G5 Updates Take A Long Time

    I just got my Dual 2.3 G5 yesterday. Man is it fast!!! However, when it downloaded all the software updates, it took a long time. Also, when I was downloading the Microsoft Office updates, it took forever. I have a high-speed cable internet connection that's conencted with an ethernet cable. Is it normal for updates to take a long time?

    Dear Tim,
    Welcome to Apple Discussions.
    Usually this should not happen with a new unit however this may be caused due to some reasons because of the network or some damaged file.
    You can try few steps and see if this makes a difference :
    1.Delete the Home user Caches. Location Home user > Library > Caches
    2.Run disk utility and verify and repair permissions.
    3.Check if you have additional settings on you network like DNS or so. (contact your ISP)
    4.Drag the file com.apple.SoftwareUpdate.plist to the desktop. Location HDD > Library > Preferences > com.apple.SoftwareUpdate.plist
    5.Restart the unit holding "shift key to force boot the unit to Safe boot once and then restart normal.
    6.If the issue still persist make a new Admin user from System Preferences > Accounts and check on the new user.
    Hope this helps.
    Good Day!
    Ravi Dimri.

    Second: you're doing row-by-row (= slow-by-slow) processing.
    See if you can rewrite your code into a single SQL UPDATE statement that will process an entire SET at once.Well to be nitpicking. The op already does a single big update. He just does it again and again and again for each account id. Each time completely overwriting the values from the last account id.

    .....Thank you

    One reason the update is slow is because Oracle will do two switches between the SQL engine and the pl/sql engine for each row that it has to process. Such a switch usually is very slow. In 11g you could profit from funcion result cache. But the best way would be not to use a user-defined pL/sql function.
    I just noticed that you will do 4 context switches because inside of your function you do a not needed SELECT to get the length.
    First thing I would do is replace
    BEGIN
          select length(trim(PI_INSTR))
          into lv_length from dual;
    ...with
    BEGIN
          lv_length := length(trim(PI_INSTR));
    ...Here is a version where I tried to copy the logic from your function to the SQL statement. Also note that I tried to update only those rows that require a change.
    starting point
    update  customer_table  p
      set P.ic_no   = fn_change_iden_no_dirct(p.v_ic_no, p.ic_code)
      where P.ic_no is not null
      and P.ic_no  != fn_change_iden_no_dirct(p.v_ic_no, p.ic_code)
    changed logic
    update  customer_table  p
      set P.ic_no =
            decode(p.ic_code
                       /* NEW IC part */
                       ,'NEWIC', case when  length(trim(p.v_ic_no)) = 12
                                       then substr(trim(p.v_ic_no),1,6)||'15'||'999'||substr(trim(p.v_ic_no),12,1)

                                       when length(trim(p.v_ic_no)) between 8 and 11
                                       then substr(trim(p.v_ic_no),1,6)||'15'||'999'

    Hello Satish,
    I have downloaded SAP Developer Studio form SAP online update site. I got a zip file which I have unpacked and configured to the server. It has not made a IDE folder into c:\program files\sap
    I have put the sap developer studio folder some where on my drive. should I give this drive path to the local update site process??
    But you know I am confused now. Does my local udpate site server configuration has to do with SAP developer studio??? because I have different computer using sap developer studio. In this case do I have to configure on every developer computer???
    In my understanding local update site should be configured once on the server where every developer machine can access it via network and download the appropriate developer studio and installed. In this condition no version conflict will occur. Am I right??
