Subversion Client on Solaris v10 With Containers
Hi,
I am hoping if you could assist me. I have been sent round in circles.
we currently have a solaris v10 setup where we have a server and multiple containers(virtual machines) .. Now when we normally install a client s/w we will install it on the server and then it will filter through the various conatiners.
I need to know if subversion client supports this? If i install the client on teh main server, will it prompt me to filter down to the various containers? Will it ask me ehcih containers i want to filter down to ?
Your help will be greatly appreciated.
Thanks Kindly
Naren
The syntax of ldapclient changed in Solaris 9 (at least by 9 12/03). You now specify it like this:
# ldapclient -v init -a profileName=cn=myProfile,ou=profile,dc=example,dc=comIf you're using Proxy Authentication add the following:
-a proxyDN=cn=proxyagent,ou=profile,dc=example,dc=com -a proxyPassword=ClearTextPWYou should have been able to create a profile (storing it in the DIT) when you ran idsconfig. If you took the default name of "default" (cn=default,ou=profile,dc=example,dc=com) you might not even have to specify the profile name to ldapclient.
To generate a new profile and store it in the DIT use:
$ ldapclient -vgenprofile -a profileName=cn=myProfile,ou=profile,dc=example,dc=com -a defaultSearchBase=dc=example,dc=com ...With your various attributes for your profile as specified in ldapclient(1M).
As for pam, you have to decide which you're going to use: pam_unix or pam_ldap. Note that the Solaris pam_ldap is very different from the PADL pam_ldap used under Linux and elsewhere (this makes it easy to find apparently conflicting advice).

LDAP client for solaris 9 with ds5.2 on other box
Hi
I have ds5.2 installed on Box1. I am trying to configure ldapclient on solaris 9 box. I want this to point to existing ldap server for authentication. Sun documentation is not clear about how to do that ? as some of the switches mentioned with ldapclient doesn't work. Most of the solutions I saw are on integrated solaris 9 ds server configuration. e.g idsconfig etc. I am not finding how to do basic authentication of solaris9 cient with any ldap server (ds5.2) installed on some other box.The syntax of ldapclient changed in Solaris 9 (at least by 9 12/03). On Sun fire v490 - Solaris 10 with Oracle 8.1.7.4 & Sybase 12.0
Hi,
We are going to upgrade our server with this configuration -
Sun Fire V490 2 x 1.05 GHz UltraSPARC IV CPU
8096MB RAM 2 x73GB local disk
2x FC 2GB Sun/QLogic HBAs
DAT72
On one machine we will have Sun Solaris v10 with
Oracle DB v8.1.7.4 & Second one will be Sun Solaris v10 with Sybase DB v12.0.0.6.
Now our question is - Sun fire have Hyper-thread CPUs will the O/S and databases (Oracle and Sybase) view the proposed system as a true 4 CPU platform? Will parameters used to tune the database such as Sybase max online engines still operate in the same manner as before?
Our old machine configuration was - Sun E450 4x400MHz CPU 1024MB RAM 2 x18; 8x36GB disksQuestions on Oracle and Sybase should be directed to a database forum, this forum is for Sun hardware support.
Here is a link to a DB forum I look at from time to time:
http://www.dbforums.com/index.php
The topic of tuning Oracle or Solaris is way beyond the scope of this forum, I have attempted to go into it before but didn't get any feedback and I would only like to spend lots of time on it if I was being paid!!! On the memory side, keep in mind that Oracle 9i 64-bit can address a maximum of 2 ^ 64 ( 16777216 TB ) memory, prior to that the DBA had to define memory parameters in init.ora. To be honest the last time I worked with a Oracle 8 database I shut a HP K class server down permanently that had been migrated to Oracle 9i on Solaris by an Oracle consultant and I can't remember all the tuning trick etc. -
DNS and Static IP Address Question on Solaris v10 X86
Ive recently installed Solaris v10 X86 and have two questions. The system is a Dell E521 with 4GB RAM and 1GB SysKonnect NIC, and internet is provided via a cable modem, thats plugged into a Netgear router, and the Solaris 10 box is plugged into the Netgear router via a CAT5 ethernet cable.
1. I can connect to my router login page using the following URL:
http://192.168.1.1/start.htm and I can also connect to various web pages such as yahoo, if I first "ping yahoo.com" (on another machine thats internet enabled) and then plug the web sites ip address into the Solaris/Mozilla browser. So it appears that I havent been successful at pointing the Solaris x86 at a DNS server to resolve the DNS name.
2. I've purchased a commercially available software package and it requires a static ip address for this Solaris x86 server. If the ip address changes, itll stop working by design and require that I reacquire the license file. When connecting through this Netgear router, how do I lock this Solaris v10 x86 server into a specific ip address? (the ip address floats presently when cycling my PCs on/off) presently, and assume the Solaris box will too, usually through an ip range of 192.168.1.<1 through 5>

The NIC is a SysKonnect 9821 1GB Ethernet card. The drivers in Solaris 10 were apparently very old and didn't install drivers or configure/plumb when I installed Solaris 10, so I downloaded the
latest drivers (hard to find!), followed the instructions and got the NIC drivers installed and then plumbed.
My router's ip address appears to be 192.168.1.1 and in one of the articles I've read, there is a recommendation to create a file (touch) within /etc named defaultrouter and enter the router's ip address. I did this, and the file now contains:
192.168.1.1
I also read where another file called resolv.conf needed to be pointed to a DNS server, which in this case, according to my Netgear router, and according to ipconfig/all on another WinBox on the same network, also shows the same 192.168.1.1 address for the DNS, so I created that file too (wasn't there) and it contains:
nameserver 192.168.1.1
There is a host name file called hostname.skge0 and it contains one line:
INTHOST
There is a hosts file, and it contains:
127.0.0.1 localhost loghost homex86
192.168.1.3 INTHOST
There is a netmasks file, and other than the commented out lines, it appears to contain one relevant line:
192.168.1.0 255.255.255.0
There is a nsswitch.conf file and other than the commented out lines, it contains:
passwd: files

ipnodes: files
networks: files
protocols: files
rpc: files
ethers: files

There is an nsswitch.dns file:

rpc: files
ethers: files
netmasks: files
bootparams: files
publickey: files
netgroup: files

Finally, I've also seen some advice using the folling command (and I tried it):
"route add default 192.168.1.1" as an alternative method of setting up route table
The only other command I've tried is:
"ifconfig skge0 192.168.1.1 netmask 255.255.255.0 up" but I suspect that was redundant as the plumb command I used to get the NIC functioning earlier probably already provided what was needed.
Finally, on this small network, I ran an ipconfig/all on a Windows based PC, to see what network settings were reported through the wireless connection, and this is an excerpt of that information:

Otherwise you can edit /etc/hostname.<interface> and place a static address there, forgoing DHCP services from the router. You may want the address to appear outside the router's DHCP range.

Odd subversion client behavior - has anyone seen this?
We are using DW CS4 with the subversion client for version control. One of our developers, working on a mac with OS X v 10.5.6, sees odd behavior when using 'Put' to send a file from his local copy to either a testing server or the remote site. What happens is - any unopened folders in the local copy get + signs indicating they don't exist in the svn repository. The + signs don't appear if the folder is already opened, and they go away on a refresh or on switching between any of the left pane sites (test, remote and repository). I tried replicating this behavior on a windows box (virtual machine running w2K server 2003 SP 2, terminal services, accessed via RDP) but could not replicate.
Has anyone else seen this behavior? Is it a harmless annoyance or something more? Any feedback would be great- thank you!Thanks, appreciated. I was just looking for somebody to put this in perspective.
I've also seen performance & stability issues with the SVN client - it chokes if you try to check out too many files at once, for example when first populating a local copy from a repository. I would be interested to know if Adobe has a set of best practices for initial setup of repositories and local copies as this would be very helpful, especially for large sites where there might be some valuable ways to save time in setup. -
Solaris v10 sparc jumpstart server on x86 solaris - can't find miniroot.
I am trying to setup a jumpstart install server on an x86 solaris v10 machine to do a sparc network install. I downloaded both the CD and DVD sparc v10 ISO's. When I mount the CD, the Solaris_10/Tools/Boot directory (miniroot system) is symlinked back to ../../../s1 which does exist. I can't find it on the CD, I've used prtvtoc and this slice does not seem to exist.
On the DVD iso, the directoy exists, but many files cannot be read, almost like the filesystem is corrupt.
I've download these ISO and burned them many times, so I know it's not an issue with hardware or the CD/DVD media.
Where can I download a working sparc solaris v10 miniroot system?There is no such entry under solaris. This entry only exist on windows.
On solaris you need to change entries in the kjs script (prior to SP3)
or iasenv.ksh (after SP3)

Installation Solaris 10 with JumpStart (ssh)
Hello,
I want to install Solaris 10 with a server JumpStart.

MarcorelI have seen this too over the years and it ultimately comes down to something innate:
Here are a few suggestions:
1. Try and use interface ce0.
2. Check default route on both jumpstart server and client.
3. The arp cache may need to be flushed on the Jumpstart server.
4. Use snoop and see what happens during the actual RARPing phase between the server and host.
5. Switch the order in the sysid config file as indicated below:
system_locale=en_US
name_service=none
network_interface=ce2
{hostname=donau1 ip_address=10.50.57.24 netmask=255.255.252.0 protocol_ipv6=no default_route=10.50.56.1}
security_policy=none
terminal=vt100
timezone="MET"
timeserver=10.50.57.214

Please note I blanked your root password. Let me know if this helps. -
Installing Oracle Virtual Directory Manager client on Solaris 10
Hi,
While installing Oracle Virtual Directory Client on solaris 10, I am getting
"ovidm1014.bin : /tmp/install.dir.<number>/linux/resource/jre/bin/java: cannot execute" error while initiating the installer.
Can someone look into the message and advice me in overcoming the issue as we are held up on this for three days?
Earliest reply is favoured
ThanksHi,
Thanks once again for reply!!
If you already installed Oracle Virtual Directory Manager on Sun SPARC, can you brief us pre-requisite setting and installation steps, so that we can follow the same.
Because, we are getting error in the initialization of installation process itself. So, I think there must be some configuration settings to be made.
We already raised SR (Service Request) with Oracle, bu there is no reply from their side till now.
I am waiting for your reply ASAP

Ldap client in Solaris using TLS
I have installed an OpenLap server (version 2.2.13-2) in a Red Hat ES 4.
My LDAP clients are
- Linux (redhat and mandriva)
- Solaris 8 (with the last recommended path and 10893-62 path for ldapv2)
- Tru64 (5.1B)
If a use simple authentification all works fine (search in LDAP,

However, when I use TLS the Solaris LDAP client doesn't seem to work.
When I run the LDAP client the process freeze
With my Linux and Tru64 clients all work fine using LS.
I have downloaded the certificates from my LDAP server using Netscape browser.
I have copied cert7.db and key3.db in the "/var/ldap/directory" with a

I can do a "ldapsearch -x -ZZ objectclass=*" and this returns data.

I have launched ethereal so see network communications with my Solaris 8 client and the LDAP server.
And with this configuration the Solaris box only communicates with the LDAP server using LDAP port 389 and not LDAPS port 636.
I have done the same test with a linux and tru64 box and they use LDAPS port 636 to communicate with my LDAP server.
Does anyone have an idea on getting Solaris using TLS/SSL?

Rexec client for solaris.
Can anybody please point me to a place where I can find rexec client for solaris.
thanks in advance,
rathiClient is only considered to be a separate product on Windows platforms. Client is a not a seperate cd with unix platforms.It is bundled with the server edition.
You will need to download the server for Solaris. Once you begin your installation you will be able to select the Oracle client on the Available Products screen. I hope this helps. -
Look for SFTP client for Solaris 10x86
We need an SFTP client which supports logins with and without passwords for sending files to remote SFTP sites.
Up until now, we have been using a combination of Perl, Expect and sftp command but need a better solution.
Have been unable to install into Perl the SFTP modules (Lots of problems with SSHA packates) to use it directly without Expect.
I see a few (very few) commercial packages like one from tectia.com but am looking for perhaps an open source solution.You should be able to use the scp command (which is a part of ssh client on solaris, linux or cygwin/windows) in conjunction with the key based authentication
For example, if you want a scheduled job as user1 on machine1 to be able to upload a file to a directory owned by user2 on machine2:
On machine1, run ssh-keygen as user1 to create the RSA key pair (do not enter as password .)
On machine2, as user2, cd .ssh, add user1's public key to the authorized_keys file.
e.g.
ssh-rsa dWU+bihN7kYFYoQ5ycNiIl2urtzdS5GNcCtMSz
Nykgylo4ccfoAhJhAOVS3htN6hTXk45O9xrpLFrC7BzAq
aQiuuKTgxT0mOVmzFjTozwQIQmy9EUt= user1@machine1
Also, update /etc/ssh/sshd_config with
RSAAuthentication yes
you will need to ssh from user1 to machine2 and as user2 to machine1 to make sure the known_hosts file for each user gets updated -

Lenovo Thinkpad W500, Intel (R), Windows 7, SP1, latest updates as of Oct 15
(1) Checked Setting, set to automatic update whenever, even changed to never update, rebooted the OS and changed back to automatic update and rebooted the OS.
(2) Stopped Windows Update Services, renamed SoftwareDistribution folder and started the window update services and rebooted.
(3) Ran MS FIXIT
(4) Ran System File checker Scan (sfc /scannow)
(5) Ran CHKDSK /F
(6) Installed "Intel Rapid Storage Technology" drivers from Lenovo site
(7) Ran Update for Windows 7 for x64-based Systems (KB971033)
None of the above possible recommended solutions were able to fix the issue yet and now I am getting a message your Window is Not Genuine!
Any help or guidance is appreciated.
Solved!
Go to Solution.The Lenovo System Update installed the "Intel Matrix Storage Manager driver 8.9.2.1002" right before the Windows Upgrade got broken. So in the Device Manager under IDE ATA/ATAPI Controllers, I choose Intel ICH9M-E/M SATA AHCI Controller, on the Driver Tab, I choose the option "Roll Back Driver" and after rolling back the driver and restarting the OS, now Windows Update is working like a Champ!

I am automating the process of sending appointment reminders to my clients. I started with an alert with an email in calendar using the clients email address as a custom entry in my me card in my contacts. this was resulting in three emails being sent with slightly different versions of the same address (see my previous post). Heating someone else's suggestion I created a workflow file to send an email and calling that file from an alert on my calendar. This is working and sends only one email to the client.
My calendar is on I cloud and I access it from three different computers so I can keep my appointment calendar current. The files that send the email only exist on one computer. My other computers show error messages when those emails get sent. It seems that each computer wants to send the email. It's a small problem but is there a way that I could not get those alerts.
But appreciate any thoughts about this. It seems like both problems might be related to the iCloud system.
Thank you in advance,
MichaelGood work, catch so far Michael, does seem to be a "feature" of iCloud syncing, not sure what you could do to disable it.

JDeveloper 11.1.2.1.0 Can't edit subversion client config
I'd like to change the subversion client config to enable auto-props but can't find an option to do this in JDeveloper. Tools->Preferences...->Versioning->Subversion->General only appears to have an option for modifying the server parameters. Anybody know how I can change the subversion client config through JDev?
Makes sense. Editing the svn 'servers' file through JDev displays it's path at the top of editor:
C:\Documents and Settings\BLACKADR\Application Data\JDeveloper\system11.1.2.1.38.60.81\o.jdeveloper.subversion
and I can see that there is also a default 'config' file in this same folder so I guess this must be the one JDev will pick up. Will think about raising an enhancement request for an Edit "Client config" option in the JDev Preferences dialog. Thanks for your help.
