Suitcase Fusion/Classic Font Problems

I have a few machines that can still run Quark 4.1 in Classic mode for viewing legacy files.
Sadly, I installed Suitcase Fusion, which KO'd my ability to open any fonts in Classic apps. I have uninstalled Suitcase, using the Extensis Knowledge Base article on how to do it. But now, with Suitcase uninstalled, I still can't get any fonts to work in my Classic apps. I'm using the method of dropping the fonts directly into the System(9)Folder/Fonts folder. But when the apps open, none of the fonts I've added are available for use.
Any ideas on how I can regain the ability to add fonts for use in Classic, short of a re-install of system software?
Thanks.

Are the fonts you're putting into that folder OS 9 fonts or OS X fonts?
I haven't used Suitcase in nearly 12 years and have no idea how Suitcase Fusion works with old-style fonts in OS X. If you think SF might have altered your old OS 9 font files in any way, make sure the ones you put in your System Folder/Fonts folder are copies of the original old fonts, not ones that have been touched by Suitcase.

  • Tiger, Suitcase, the ETERNAL Font problems

I've a bunch of problems here, ALL font related. Brand new computer, kick *** machine, more font problems than ever.
First off, I have fonts I deleted off the entire computer, BUT they are ALL still showing up in all CS2 applications. As a matter of fact, the one's I NEED which I didn't delete, and still show up in FONTBOOOK, are not replacing.
So, 1. How do I get rid off these fonts? I did an entire computer search for the fonts, and they aren't anywhere. Yet they still show up in ONLY the application font menu's.
    2. What is up with the font issues between FONT BOOK, OS X 10.4.8 and Suitcase 10?
I am infuriated with the horrible font "mismanagement" between these 3 pieces of software.
Anyone with any suggestions, ideas and fixits, inquire within. At this point I'm going to reinstall from the factory specs (installing all the multi-language fonts and all is a recipe for disaster!) and start anew.

  • Suitcase Fusion/Photoshop Font Issue

I have Photoshop CS5.5 with Suitcase Fusion 15.0.5. When I use any kind of typeface in a Photoshop file it appears jagged. When I rasterized the type, the edges are still jagged. It does display the correct font and not defaulting to a generic one. It is just that the curved edges are bad.
I am to figure out if this is a Photoshop or Suitcase issue. I have reinstalled the suitcase plugin, no change. Reset Photoshop to it's defaults. My other apps (e.g. Adobe, Apple and Microsoft), the fonts look great.

What's the ppi resolution of your files?  What type of file format?
Once rasterized, text in Photoshop is no longer vector.  Unless you have a very high ppi resolution, text is bound to appear jagged.
Photoshop is not the ideal application for text.

+Hey, I think that WAS the problem. Thanks for the great idea.+
+The fonts I tried to install at first had been through SF's Font Vault, so I went back to the archives and used the pre-SF versions, and that seems to be working.+

Since I have installed Tiger, I have problems with Suitcase.
When I want to open a font, I have a message saying that the font is in conflict with a font of the System.

  • Font problem in Classic

I posted this over in the Classic forum...but it's rather dead over there and I fear it may not be seen for a while...so here's the problem...
I'm running Quark 4 in Classic and having trouble with fonts. Though the fonts are on my computer, and in the OS 9 fonts folder, they won't print correctly. If I use the same printer and print from Quark on my old iMac (running OS 9) the fonts print and look fine.
I read another thread in this forum that mentioned the fonts must be OS 9 fonts (and must not have been run through suitcase or a similar managing program???). So, on the off chance that my husband or I just took OS X fonts and copied into the OS 9 folder, I copied the OS 9 fonts from the iMac (I just grabbed everything in the Frutiger family, as it was one that I had an issue with) and then dumped them into the OS 9 fonts folder on my iBook. I restarted Classic mode in order to make the fonts available to the OS and then printed again. The font still prints all pixeled-looking.
Can anyone tell me what I'm doing wrong? Do I need to find the original font disc and install them from the disc?
Any help would be most appreciated!!!!!

    Hi Diane,
Glad that the tip helped to "solve" the font problem!
Not sure why you are printing the file info at the bottom of the page. It does sound as if it is a print setting somewhere though. Hopefully someone has a clue for you.
Again, thanks for the "solved" star and if I can think of something else for you to try I'll post back. Let us know if you figure it out.
    good luck,

"In lieu of an answer...I tried changing the paper size to legal and it's not on the last copy I printed."
Ooops, I misread your reply, and see that by changing the paper size it corrected the issue.

  • Typekit sync problem in Photoshop (Suitcase fusion?)

I am on a Mac OS X 10.9 and all my CC apps are up to date
I installed a few desktop fonts from Typekit. They worked fine in Photoshop but after restarting my Mac the fonts were disabled in Photoshop. I then turned file and font sync of/on in CC settings, and it partly fixed the problem. But one of the typefaces are still disabled (LFT Etica - Bold).
I am using Suitcase Fusion 2.0. I can see from other threads that it may cause troubles.

We've released an update to Suitcase Fusion 5 that addresses Typekit compatibility. The update is avaiable free to all registered Suitcase Fusion 5 users and can be downloaded here:

There's some good info about Fusion 5's Typekit integration in this blog post:

  • Fontbook fonts not syncing with my software programs-after SuitCase Fusion Trial

I am hoping someone can offer some insight / help. I am frantic .....a graphic designer needing my fonts asap!!
TRIGGER/ Problem arose today --  I installed and then uninstalled a trial version of Suitcase Fusion 3 today - and now 1/2 of my fonts are not recongnized by my software programs (ie: all Adobe software, MS Word, excel etc).
Basically when I open up FONTBOOK it shows all of my fonts under the ALL FONTS column, however when I want to use them in InDesign or PhotoShop or WORD, or Illustrator ....etc (you get the idea) ...they are not available from any drop down menues. It's as though the Fusion Software trial delinked them from use in all my applications?
Does anyone know how to reestablish fonts as they are listed / available in FONTBOOK?
Is there possible corruption OR is it just something I need to reestablish in my system?
    Thanks kindly,
    Jhoe

You used the software's built in uninstaller correct?
Because if you didn't you need to install it again, then use their uninstaller first.
    Next, download OnyX here
    http://www.titanium.free.fr/
Run ALL the maintenance and cleaning aspects, you can cancel the reboot in between, but you need to reboot at the end of using OnyX.
This page especially should be of extra interest, it will rebuild your font caches.
Going to take a little time, but hopefully that will fix your issue.
None of your programs, files or fonts will be deleted, it's just cleaning out the system so it can rebuild itself.
If it doesn't work, then what likely has happened is the trial software didn't completely remove itself or altered something and didn't place things back the way it should be.
You should contact the support people for that program. They might have instructions.
But since you can't always count on them, it's always best to have a "hold option bootable clone" of your boot drive on a external drive which you can reverse clone from or use if your boot drive dies, and/or a TimeMachine drive where you can restore back to a previous state before the software install occurred.

  • Lightroom 6 - Missing fonts with Extensis Suitcase Fusion 6

Upgrade today from LR5 to LR6 CC and have lost lots of fonts! Understand an old problem, but can't find recent solution. I still have all fonts in Photoshop CC after update. How do I get my fonts back? They still appear in LR5.

Suitcase Fusion 5 v. 16.1.0. I'll check if there's been another update. But I'd installed one not long ago.
It turned out that turning the font off in Suitcase and back on again made it show up in the menu -- which at least worked once. But it doesn't explain why they all disappeared in the first place.
The problem does now appear to be at the Suitcase end, though because when I relaunched Photoshop they were missing there as well.
I certainly wasn't aware of any hiccups or power glitches, and Suitcase had been running the whole time.

  • Suitcase Fusion 3 for fonts slowing down Illustrator?

I'm working on a PC in windows 7 and using CS5. I have Extensis Suitcase Fusion 3 for font management but someone told me that this may be why my Illustrator in particular is so slow. I frequently have to sit and wait for it to catch up to me while the top title bar says "Not responding".
Can anyone comment on this? I don't want to give up my suitcase font manager - I really like it. Surely these programs can get along??

Sorry that Illustrator is being slow for you. If you think that that Suitcase is causing the problem. I would do two things.
    1. Ensure that your version of Suitcase was built to work with your version of Illustrator.

    2. If they are compatible, and you still think that it's Suitcase, please contact Extensis support.

  • Suitcase Fusion trial? CS4- lost 1/2 of my fonts via ....HELP

If ANYONE can please help me ... today I downloaded a trial version of Suitcase Fusion 3 to see what is was like. I also uninstalled it today.
NOW,  all of my Adobe programs are missing (not pulling up) my enitre fonts  list ie: basics like Myriad Pro are missing from the drop down menu  among many others, and previous design documents are opening with errors  saying:
"fonts or characters are not available or in a different format than originally specicifed". Then, when I DO open that document, I cannot even correctly place the original fonts—they are not available.
My Fonts do show in my Library (iMac OSX 10.5)
Is  there any way to restore my fonts? It seems like they are not "talking"  to my software programs (all of my software ...including Microsoft word  /excel etc)
    Thank you,
    Chemol

    Hi Chemol,
Sorry to hear that you're having issues. Good news is that it's very unlikely that your font files have been affected by Suitcase Fusion.
As pointed out by other posters, it's possible that you have some corrupt font cache files on your system. Suitcase Fusion 3 has the ability to clean out these files, but if you don't want to reinstall it, you can try out Font Nuke to clear the same files.
If you like, our support team is happy to help you understand how Suitcase Fusion works with your system, and help you get up and running properly.
    http://www.extensis.com/support
I also highly recommend reading our Font Management in Mac OS X Best Practices Guide. This tells you all about where fonts can be stored in a Mac, file types, common problems & solutions, etc. The Suitcase Fusion user documentation is also very detailed about how to effectively manage fonts on your machine.
    Hope that this helps.

  • Fonts not available in IDCC2014, with Suitcase Fusion 5 or 6

I have opened and worked a InDesign CC2014 doc. Everything is fine. The next day I attempt to open the doc again with the same fonts installed and they come up missing. I try several Macs, (different OSs), different versions of Suitcase Fusion including the latest and I get the same issue. Cleared font cache, restarted, etc to no avail. Any ideas? This has happened over the years occasionally, and has seemed to happen recently on a few occasions.
    Thanks

That's a large part of the problem. You have more than one font manager on your Mac. If you're not using Font Book, delete it. Then you need to reset its orphaned database so OS X stops trying to control which fonts are, or aren't active according to that data.
To remove Font Book from the hard drive, follow these steps:
    1) Open Font Book, and then its preferences. Uncheck the box for "Alert me if system fonts change". Close the preferences and shut down Font Book. Put the Font Book application in the trash and delete it.
    2) Restart your Mac and immediately hold down the Shift key when you hear the startup chime to boot into Safe Mode. Keep holding it until OS X asks you to log in (you will get this screen on a Safe Mode boot even if your Mac is set to automatically log in). Let the Mac finish booting to the desktop and then restart normally.
This will reset Font Book's database and clear the cache files in your user account. The main goal in this step is to remove the orphaned Font Book database from the hard drive. With the Font Book application no longer on the hard drive, a new one cannot be created. Which is what we want.
    3) Close all running applications. From an administrator account, open the Terminal app and enter the following command. You can also copy/paste it from here into the Terminal window:
    sudo atsutil databases -remove
This removes all font cache files. Both for the system and all user font cache files. After running the command, close Terminal and immediately restart your Mac.

  • Fireworks CS5 will not recognize suitcase fusion font

    Window 7 Ultimate / 64 bit / Fireworks CS5 with lattestr update / Suitcase Fusion 14.2.0.319
I am working on a graphic which requires Helvitica Neue which I have on my machine as a postscript font. I activate the font in Suitcase Fusion, but when I attempt to set text in Fireworks in Helvitica Neue it always goes back to Myriad which is the default font. Is there a fix for this? I can fall back and create the graphic in illustrator if necessary which recognizes all of fonts activated in Suitcase.
    Thanks,
    Joe

Looking at a Quick Reference PDF for Suitcase Fusion 3, they call this feature Global Auto-Activation, and it's available in Preferences (this is where you can enable global auto-activation by application). However, it appears to be a feature for the Mac OS but not for Windows. Also, thinking about it, this is referring to "auto-activation", which is a bit different from what you're describing.
I like my suggestion to clean the application font caches; I really think that might help. If that has no effect, then I'd try cleaning the system font caches first, and then the application font caches. Just be aware that cleaning the system font caches may affect the activation statuses of fonts that reside in your system's font folders. (For instance, on a Mac, all the fonts in the Library, user Library, and System get activated following a cache cleaning. Fonts outside these system folders are unaffected.) So you might want to make some notes on this before cleaning the system cache.
If this continues to be a problem, Extensis has pretty good email-based customer service/tech support.

  • Missing fonts in InDesign CS4 - even when 'open' in Suitcase Fusion 3

Hi all, I'm running InDesign CS4 on a Intel Mac Pro (tower), about 4 years old, running OSX Snow Leopard (all updates applied).
Using Suitcase Fusion V3 for font management.
I have a document that previously had no font issues at all.  Now when I open it InDesign throws up a 'Missing font' error.
I have the correct fonts installed and 'open' in Suitcase Fusion.
The font is available in Simpletext and Pages, but not InDesign and Illustrator.
The troublesome font was OK the other day and has been since it was installed.
I've not changed anything that I'm aware of... but now InDesign won't 'see' the font.
In the 'Find Font' dialogue box the 'Path' says it's 'Unkown or missing'.
InDesign can see the other weights in the font family (bold, italic etc) but not regular.  And yet the entire font family is in the same folder on my hard drive.
I've tried deleting all the' Adobe.lst' files.  No Joy.
I've run Font Doctor on the whole font family, its says it's OK.
    I've tried re-installing the font from a back-up.  Nada.
If anyone has any suggestions..... feel free to let rip!
As ever, I await your expertise and unstinting knowledge in these matters   And, needless to say, I'll be mighty appreciative for it!
    RP

Hi Bob, strangely... I've put the troublesome font, Dax (T1) Regular, in the Applications/Adobe InDesign CS4/Fonts folder and it seems to be working.
Never had to do that before.
Would be great to get back to 'normal'.  If possible.
Although I have many duplicates spread across back-up drives and collected artwork folders, I've also tried to eliminate any duplicate 'open' versions.  But the above solution is the only one that works at the moment.
    RP
p.s. I also tried removing any AdobeFNT**.lst files, (where ** is a number) before the above work around.  That didn't work either.

  • CS5/CS6 Illustrator suitcase font problems

We have been having incompatibility issues with Suitcase fusion 3 and Illustrator CS5 from months now. Now Illustrator CS6 has launched, we are having the same issues.
Upon startup we load all our suitcase fonts then open Illustrator CS5, We also have to have auto activation turned completely off as it is too unpredictable. I would say 40% of the time fonts will load correctly and no issues will occur. The rest of the time the fonts load but in Illustrator a warning message is displayed when a text box is clicked:
'This text was created in a different version of Illustrator. Editing the text may cause some changes to your text layout. Basic formatting will not be affected. Do you want to continue?'
If the message is clicked 'OK' the text will reflow and the text box will bust with a small red plus symbol in the bottom right hand corner
If I quit Illustrator without saving and reopen, the message will not be displayed and no reflow will occur.
So its as if Illustrator cannot load the fonts from Suitcase correctly 100% of the time the first time it is opened.
Also if the document is saved when the fonts are not loaded correctly the error will be saved into the document, meaning any other Mac that opens that file, regardless of the fonts they use, will have the error appear.
Does Adobe have a fix for this? Is Suitcase fusion 3 incompatible with CS5+6?

Maybe not the most helpful answer but I stopped using Suitcase years ago and moved over to Linotype's FontExplorer.  The decision was based on similar issues to the one you're having.  I remember always having to open documents, then close them, then reopen them in order to get the fonts to activate.
Since you're not using activation, I have no idea why a font that is supposed to be open is not recognized by Illustrator until after restarting Illus.  It's possible that your font caches are corrupt, you can easily clean them to see if that's the issue.  Doubtful since you seem to indicate that it's affecting multiple machines, but you never know.
What version of Illustrator were the files created in?  There was a change to the type engine with, I think, CS2 that would cause that warning to come up, but even that wouldn't explain why it would only come up once.
I don't know that anyone here is still using suitcase, most having moved to Font Agent Pro or FontExplorer but maybe someone will chime in.
