Sum by Date in a SQL Region

I have a simple table where users are supposed to log the number of hours they work each day on different projects.
ID
USERNAME
WORKDATE
CHARGECODE
CHARGEHOURS
I want to have a region which shows the totals for each day for that user.
as they enter timecharge codes and hours it would update with the total number of hours.
Eg the following line items
USERNAME WORKDATE CHARGECODE CHARGEHOURS
JMP------11-JUL-2008--- IT-------6.5
JMP------11-JUL-2008----HW-------1.0
would sum to
USERNAME WORKDATE TOTAL
JMP-------11-JUL-2008------7.5
We need to be able to see and total hours for each project so I need to keep them separate.
My initial way of approaching this was to try and create a collection (Like the one used in the ORDERS page in the Example Application) but I did not get very far with that idea.
Any help would be most appreciated.

When you say "as they enter timecharge codes and hours", do you mean that you want the total displayed real-time (using javascript or ajax) ? After entering the hours, if the user clicks a SUBMIT button, then it is possible to store the data in table, temp table or collection, and use the query to display totals in a different region.
<p>
In case you are looking for the query to display the table, here it is:
<p>
select USERNAME, WORKDATE, sum(CHARGEHOURS) as TOTAL
from table
group by USERNAME, WORKDATE<p>

  • Item data using PL/SQL block region

    hello community,
    I have searched the whole forum using Pl/SQL but couldn't find an answer for this.
    I have a PL/SQL Anonymous block region, containing database items fetched by a process and custom items getting set by the Pl/SQL source.
    based on the ID I am getting the records i.e.
    Region Source (PL/SQL Anonymous block)
    declare
    CURSOR cpc_cur is SELECT "PRODUCT", "APPCODE", "COMCODE", "DESCRIPTION" from cp2 where "ID" = :P4_ID;
    begin
    for cpc_rec in cpc_cur
    loop
    :P4_P_NAME := cpc_rec.product;
    end loop;
    end;
    The custom item is text field with source Item.
    The item value is not filled in for the first time after login, but it shows the value in the session state as with status 'I', but from then onwards it works fine.
    Why is the value not fetched the first time?
    even I tried the postcalculation using nvl and it sets it to null.
    Also set_session state doesn't work.
    If I make the custom Item as Pl/SQL function, and write the query then it works fine, but gives problem as while inserting a new record the query has no ID to refer.
    Thanks in advance.

    Thanks Scott!!
    1) I am using PL/SQL region to get the data for few items on the form region which is based on a table, all table attributes are database items and additional Items whose data I am fetching from the PL/SQL are Custom items.
    2) Yes the loop executes only once per page view, Is their a better query?
    3) Well its very dumb to have a item source as item pointing to itself, but since the values are in session with status 'I' I thought this could do the trick!
    4) As the item source type used is [only..], the first time user logs in it doesn't displays the value, need to refresh the page, but the second time its gets the values form the session.
    5) If I make the Item source as PL/SQL function, I just fetch the records individually, same as in the query which works fine, but the items are also used for insertion (add new) and I clear the cache, so it gives error as it cannot execute the pl/sql function(no ID while addition)
    I hope I have answered your questions! If you have patience you can read the detail description.
    test application on oracle server
    http://apex.oracle.com/pls/otn/f?p=24296:1:3544773135949858:::::
    login/password test/test
    Application name :Test
    The page has 2 regions. when clicking on SN the values are transfered to form, except for 'Appcode'.
    Detail Description:
    I have a page with 2 regions.
    One region is a report region showing fewer details from a view. The other region is a PL/SQL(form region), which shows all the details and is linked to the report region.
    While linking I pass the ID from report and autofetch the data in form region.
    But some Items are not related to that database, so I created few items on form region (Custom Items). To fill in these values I did these things.
    1) Pass them through script (but passing 7 parameters through script is not good)
    2) Made another autofetch process to fetch the remaining Items, but it seems that its not possible to have 2 autofetch process on one form region.
    3) Changed the form type from HTML to PL/SQL, to assign the custom items values through code.
    for cpc_rec in cpc_cur
    loop
    :P_custom_item := cpc_rec.data;
    end loop;
    Either make source type static or Item (the same item P_custom_item).
    This pl/sql code do assign them the values, In the session state their status is 'I', but are not displayed on the page for the first login, need to refresh the page, as the source used is (only when..) it gets the value the second time.
    4) Made the item source as PL/SQL function and assign them the value. It works fine, but the same item is also used displaying description while insertion(gives error while insertion), so made a conditional process, even that gives the same error.
    I have a questions.
    If an Item status is 'I' in the session state, why is it not displaying the value on page.
    Thanking you in anticipation

  • Report Using PL/SQL Region

    Hi,
    I have bit experiment create custom reports using PL/SQL region
    http://dbswh.webhop.net/apex/f?p=BLOG:READ:0::::ARTICLE:97800346956448
    I would like have from you tips and ideas how enhance this.
    Because I'm not so good with SQL,
    I really appreciate if you have tips enhance performance for query used for cursor.
        /* Report query */
        l_sql := '
          SELECT * FROM(
            SELECT a.*, row_number() OVER (ORDER BY '
            || l_sort_col
            || ' '
            || l_sort_ord
            || ') rn, COUNT(1) over() mrn
            FROM(' || l_sql || ') a
          ) WHERE rn BETWEEN ' || l_start_row || ' AND ' || l_last_row
        ; Regards,
    Jari

    Hi Jari
    I'm guessing you're trying to do paginated grid data or somewthing similar? You could try something like this...
        l_sql := 'SELECT * '||
               'FROM ('||
                      'SELECT /*+ FIRST_ROWS(n) */ '||
                              'a.*, ROWNUM rnum '||
                       'FROM ('||l_sql||' '||
                              'ORDER BY '||l_sort||' '||l_dir||') a '||
                       'WHERE ROWNUM <= '||l_max_row||') '||
               'WHERE rnum >= '||l_start;The variables would be initialized in the procedure as follows...
        l_max_row := p_start + p_limit;
        l_start   := p_start + 1;
        l_sort    := NVL(p_sort,'1');
        l_dir     := NVL(p_dir, 'ASC');My application process would be called something like follows, to spit out a JSON object...
    BEGIN
      htp.p(wwv_flow.g_widget_num_return||'(');
      munky_extjs.grid_json(p_app_id => wwv_flow.g_x01,
                        p_app_page_id => wwv_flow.g_x02,
                        p_region_id => TO_NUMBER(wwv_flow.g_x03),
                        p_start => NVL(wwv_flow.g_x04,0),
                        p_limit => NVL(wwv_flow.g_x05,10),
                        p_sort => wwv_flow.g_x06,
                        p_dir => wwv_flow.g_x07);
      htp.p(')');
    END;I think your use of analytics in the inner query may be slowing you down if you have a lot of data?
    Cheers

  • Connecting a report region and a PL/SQL region

    Hi,
    I have created a report region whith pagination that only show 1 row at a time. I can then navigate backwards and forwards through this recordset. The first reportcolum in this recordset contains a number.
    I have also, on the same page, created a PL/SQL procedure region. What I want is to use the number from the SQL region as an input to the PL/SQL region. So when I navigate through the report (Using the pagination arrows), the PL/SQL region is in sync with the record I'm currently seeing in the report.
    Is this possible or do I have to try something different?
    Regards
    Trond

    Hi Trond,
    If you only want to show one record in your first region, it might be best to work with page items, retrieve one record at a time and use that data as the source for your page items. It's easier to implement and easier to reference those values in your second region. Reports are great if you have more then one record.
    Having said that, there are ways to implement it the way you outlined it in your posting. Granted it's not very elegant but it serves its purpose. You could write your own PL/SQL package, use this to set a global to the current row's primary key value and reference that global in your second region.
    Create your package as follows:
    create or replace package md_sample as
    g_pk_value number;
    function set_value(p_value number) return number;
    end;
    create or replace package body md_sample as
    function set_value(p_value in number) return number is
    begin
    g_pk_value := p_value;
    return 1;
    end;
    end;
    Now you need to make sure that your report calls this package appropriately. Calling this as part of your SQL statement won't work properly as it would also be called for records not currently shown on your page. A better way would be to use it for a PL/SQL expression within your report template definition. Pick a custom report template for your report and edit that template. Scroll down to the condition for the first column template and pick “Use Based on PL/SQL Expression”. Then type in the following expression (this is based on a select deptno, dname, loc from dept report):
    md_sample.set_value(#DEPTNO#)=1
    After that you'll be able to reference the global md_sample.g_pk_value. You could e.g. use this as the source for page items shown in your second region.
    Hope this helps,
    Marc

  • Best way to Import Data from a SQL Server Table?

    Hi,
    Firstly thanks for looking at this question.
    We need to import data into SAP BPC 5.1 on a twice daily basis and have chosen not to export to a .CSV file but instead to hold all data in a SQL table and import it directly from there.  As part of the import we wish to run the default logic, however only over the data which is imported as opposed to having to running default logic over the entire database after every import.
    We did some research on this topic and the only thing we could find that would work as described above is using the "Import SQL" package.  However we keep experiencing problems with it and have not yet been able to run it successfully; the errors it gives are not consistent from run to run which makes it difficult to start a thread, though we are getting help from the helpdesk at the moment.
    My question here though is - is there another way that someone knows of to import data into SAP BPC from a SQL table, and being able to run default logic over just the data being imported, or is our only hope getting the "Import SQL" package working?
    Any help much appreciated.
    Regards,
    Iain
    Forgot to mention details of our environment:
    SAP BPC v5.0.495, 2 server environment -
    Server 1 (DB/AS/SSIS/File server) = 64bit Windows 2k3 server with 64bit SQL Server Enterprise Edition
    Server 2 (IIS/App server) = 32bit Windows 2k3 server
    Edited by: Iain Hambleton on Jun 17, 2008 3:25 PM

    Lain,
    I recently created SSIS packages that need to work with a staging table that does all kind of manipulations of that data before it is loading into SAP BPC, because it also has to load the data in the drillthrough table within the same package. From one point in my package the data is also in a SQL table so basically the same as in your situation. This also works with an export to CSV within the DTSX file like Alwin said, because in this case you can use the standard transformation and conversion stuff during the load.
    I also needed to limit the data region for logic to the data region that is in the load for currency conversion purposes. This is not very much of a problem. I had a situation where I have an Accounts receivable cube containing a daily time dimension for keyduedates and a datasrc dimension containing weeks. Every week has a complete overview of the open AR items in that week and need to be converted for that week (datasrc) only and not for the whole database every time we load. But by default data would be converted based on the Keyduedates dimension while I wanted the Week dimension to be used as the data region. I solved it by using these rows in the logic:
    *Scope_by=version,Weeks
    *xdim_memberset weeks=%weeks_set%
    *xdim_memberset version = %version_set%
    I can send you the SSIS package and logic if you want. Just send me your details then.

  • PL/SQL Region : Getting values from PL/SQL generated form?  (APEX 2.2.0)

    Hi, all,
    If I've got an PL/SQL region that dynamically generates a form using HTMLDB_ITEM.TEXTAREA, what is the best way to get the contents of those form data at submit time?
    Thanks,
    Don

    Edited for clarity.

    Don,
    The apex_item (nee htmldb_item) functions take an index number as a parameter. So if you give the textarea function p_idx=>1, it creates item f01. If you give it p_idx=>2, it creates item f02, etc. In your after-submit code, access the package variable apex_application.g_fxx where xx is the index number you used.

    but when i execute select * from vw_sub_cl_add1
    the case is not working. '-' is not getting displayed for null values even i tried nvl function it is not working
    when i use this view in apex for pl/sql region to display in the form of table .
    The problem is, when there is no value in the columns the table is not showing row and column in a proper manner.
    could any one help to overcome it.
    Thanks in advance
    bye
    Srikavi

    Hi Srikavi,
    From your statement, it looks as though you are retrieving data from an external datasource? I have had a similar problem - it's due to the ODBC driver not recognizing nulls properly. In the end, I had to do something like:
    case when xxx is null then '-' when xxx = ' ' then '-' when xxx = '' then '-' else xxx end xxxxx,
    ...This particularly happens with MS SQL databases and especially when their tables use char instead of varchar fields. The MSSQL table treats "empty" char fields as nulls but the ODBC driver doesn't - so the IS NULL value won't work on Oracle's side and the '' comparison won't always work on MS SQL side; hence having to check for all possibilities. The above may be overkill, but it did the job!

  • Htp.p not rendering correctly in Apex PL/SQL region

    I'm using Apex 3.0.1 and have an application that merges data with an email template. I have a mailing list review function that allows you to preview any of the emails. This works by calling a packaged merge function in a PL/SQL region as in:
    htp.p (package.merge_function (p1 => 1, p2 => 2, p3 => 3));
    The "merge_function" returns a CLOB which contains the complete HTML message.
    The problem is this: when the email is sent and received it looks fine, but when previewed as above the font size changes in the HTML are not recognised. The other attributes, e.g. colour and font face are OK. I am more experienced with PL/SQL than with HTML so any help would be appreciated.

    Rick,
    The CSS files that APEX uses set some default font settings for all regions. Unless overridden, these default settings will be applied to most everything on the page.
    If you're going to use an htp.p() to put some text on the page, you may want to consider wrapping the entire output of htp.p with a DIV tag.
    For instance:
    htp.p('&lt;div style="font-size:12px;"&gt;' || your_contents || '&lt;/div&gt;');Hope that helps!

  • Dealing with the DATE data type in SQL Server

    As you know, a date is stored in SQL Server as "yyyy-mm-dd" when using the DATE data type.  This is also how it displays when I pull it into my Access front-end (even if I set the field's format to Short Date.)
    I'd like to be able to display it based on the user's regional settings.  I know I can use the FORMAT method in VBA to change it to mm/dd/yyyy, but I have users in other countries and I don't want to have to maintain a number of different versions.
    Any idea how I can automatically display the date in my MS Access form based on the user's regional settings?
    Thanks.

    Your solution, however, does not address the root of the problem. Access thinks it is a text field because there is no such thing as a 'Date' data type in Access. You will run into problems anywhere in Access, that you expect it to perform as
    a Date/Time field. E.G. sorting, filtering. 'Date' is one of the newer data types in SQL Server 2008+. You should be using SQL Server DateTime or SmallDateTime data type. Access will recognize those as a Date/Time data type and treat them accordingly.

  • Render Dynamic PL/SQL region as PDF?

    Hi!
    I would like to be able to render a Dynamic PL/SQL region as a PDF. Anybody have an idea how to do this or even if it can be done? This is not a report region.
    Also any idea's on how I might do pagination in a dynamic PL/SQL region?
    Any hope that a future version of APEX will accept lines from a PL/SQL function (including anonymous ones) as the source of a report region? It would need to preserve blank lines. Currently only select statements are valid for generating APEX reports.
    Thanks in advance for your help!
    Dave Venus

    Scott,
    This is what is what debug mode puts out just before it issues the data not found error:
    0.07: ...Process "create collection": PLSQL (ON_SUBMIT_BEFORE_COMPUTATION) -- -- Create Collections -- -- declare la_cks apex_application_global.vc_arr2; begin if apex_application.g_f19.count > 0 then -- wwv_flow.debug('count gt 0 for checksum'); la_cks := apex_application.g_f19; else
    0.09: Encountered unhandled exception in process type PLSQL
    0.09: Show ERROR page...
    0.09: Performing rollback...
    I was hoping that the wwv_flow.debug statements would help me figure out where the error was occurring, but they did not produce anything so I commented them out. One thing that might be useful is that when I am not in debug mode and I click the OK link after the Oracle error message, the repainted screen still has the checkboxes that have been marked so I am guessing the error handler can see the data that I put into the .g_fnn arrays within my pl/sql region code.
    In other tabular forms within the same application, the create collection code starts the same way and I do not have any problems.
    One of the tests I did this morning was to replace my reference to the fcs array with f19 just in case there was something special being done for checksums, but the change had no effect.
    thanks,
    Peter

  • [SOLVED] Shuttle in PL SQL region (Apex 3.2)

    Hi OTN,
    Is there an option of creating shuttle element in PL SQL region?
    I need to have a dynamic number of those elements on my page.
    I have copied HTML code of a static apex shuttle (with Never condition) on this page, but no double clicks or buttons [<<] [>>] are working.
    Could someone help me cope with the problem?
    Thanks.
    Solved. Should have copied <field> and <script> after right select list also.

    You won't get a no-data-found exception in a cursor loop like that. You can do something like this:declare
      l_found boolean := false;
    begin
      for c in (select 1 from dual where 1=2) loop
        htp.p('never print this');
        l_found := true;
      end loop;
      if not l_found then
        htp.p('no rows selected in cursor loop');
      end if;
    end;Scott

  • Use evdre to query data from a SQL View

    Hi all
    I believe that it is possible to use evdre to query data from a SQL View. If this is possible then how does one go about setting it up in the evdre options (assuming that the view has already been created)?
    Regards,
    Byron

    Byron,  perhaps this is no longer supported, it might be worth opening up a case at service.sap.com on this.  However, I did find the following on Page 11 of the "Usages and Considerations of EVDRE" pdf file.  This doc is imbedded in the helpfile for BPC 7 SP5 (which was released in August of 2009, well after note 1315011 was last updated.
    It looks like you are limited to one custom view per application, since you have to name the view in a parameter at the APPLICATION level.  Go into BPC Administration, login to the application related to the custom view, choose "Set Application Parameters" and enter the name of the view to the Application Parameter called "EVDRE_QUERYVIEWNAME"  If it is not listed, go ahead and create it at the bottom of the Application parameter screen.
    Also:  I interpreted the following info from Page 10 of the same doc:
    In your EVDRE, set the following options:
    QueryEngine: MANUAL
    QueryType:  enter either NEXJ  OR TUPLE  see below:
    NEXJ  - Use two-dimensional queries using the nonemptycrossjoin function
    TUPLE  - Use two-dimensional queries using tuples"
    And I'm assuming you'd enter a Y for the following two parameters:
    QueryViewName
    "..to enforce the query engine to use a used-defined SQL view of the fact tables, when trying to read the values using SQL queries. This option is typically used in conjunction with the SQLOnly option (see below). "
    Option SQLOnly
    "..to enforce the query engine to only execute SQL queries, when reading data. This can be achieved using this option."

  • Comments not imported from Data Dictionary of SQL Server. SDDM 3.3.0.747

    Hi,
    SDDM 3.3.0.747 32-bit on Windows 7 64-bit.
    Comments are not imported from Data Dictionary of SQL Server 2008. Connection through Microsoft JDBC Driver 4.0 for SQL Server or jTDS 1.2.7
    What I have tried? In SDDM DDL generation, Comments in DBRMS for SQL Server are generated with "EXEC sp_addextendedproperty 'MS_Description' , 'Test Comment' ..." so I added extended property named "MS_Description" into SQL Server database, both on table and column. None of them were imported from Data Dictionary into SSDM. I have tried both drivers stated above. Is it a bug or am I missing something?
    I've found similar question thread Re: Data dictionary import doesn't import column comments for SDDM 3.0.0.665, so I guess it is a bug when importing with JDBC drivers.

    Extended properties were not imported correctly from SQLServer databases at DM 3.3.0.747.
    Calls to sp_addextendedproperty and fn_listextendedproperty have been modified.
    I don't think it is a problem with JDBC drivers.
    A bug fix should be available in the next release of DM.
