  • Reinstalling Comm suite 5

    Hi,
We're running Sun Java messaging 2005Q4 on Solaris 9 and wanted to upgrade to communication suite 5.
Instead of direct upgrading, we did uninstall of existing version (by running /var/sadm/prod/SUNW../uninstall) and went successful. But when i tried installing comm suite 5, it went through but webserver gets configured without any "Access Manager" URIs (amcommon, amconsole etc..) and clearly see issue with "Access Manager" (default schema appears as "1" when ran comm_dssetup.pl). This happened to me few many times in the past and reinstalled OS to get rid off this problem.
This time, we can't go for a fresh build so Please suggest me how to get Access Manager UP and running.
    TIA

  • Comm Suite auto disable users

    Hi,
We are running Communications Suite 5: Messaging 6.3, Cal 6.3, UWC 6.3
We are trying to figure out a way to auto disable a user through our provisioning system. We understand that you can disable users using attributes like inetuserstatus and mailuserstatus, however would like to tell comms suite to disable a user on some specific day in the future.
Does anyone have any way of doing this? Can a particular LDAP attribute be changed?

Does anyone have any way of doing this? Can a particular LDAP attribute be changed? There is no in-built mechanism to auto-expire accounts at a give time/date. If you wanted to achieve this you would need to use your provisioning system; something like IDM (http://www.sun.com/software/products/identity_mgr/index.jsp) is able to schedule such expiration as part of the provisioning/de-provisioning process.
If all you wanted to achieve was to stop users from accessing their account, the other option may be to expire the users password using the passwordexpirationtime: user attribute. This would not stop other users from accessing the account (e.g. shared folders, shared calendar etc.), or new emails from being received by the account.

  • Migrating to Comm suite 5

    Hi Shane and ALL,
we are running Sun Java messaging 2005Q4 on Solaris 9 (Without calender Server)
Sun Java(tm) System Messaging Server 6.2-3.04 (built Jul 15 2005)
    libimta.so 6.2-3.04 (built 01:43:03, Jul 15 2005)
Need to move to Communicate suite 5 on Solaris 10 so planned like below
    1. Setup separate standalone box with same hostname with fresh build of comm suite 5 (With calender server). - DONE and Succeeded.
ALL working good incl. commadmin and UWC is simply superb.
    2. export the user accounts from existing server - exported the "ou=people,o=xyz.com,dc=xyz,dc=com" using startconsole GUI (of DS) - Succeeded
    3. Import the user accounts (Directory Server objects) into the new server - Tried using the below but failed:
    a. dsconf import - working only if i import Base DN (dc=xyz,dc=com) not working for ou=people
    b. also it is initializing (extra accounts like calmaster would be removed..) and overwriting the existing entries.
I'm not sure if ldapmodify does the trick, if yes, please help how to run that with the exported LDIF file.
Please suggest me how to export user accounts (ou=people,o=xyz.com,dc=xyz,dc=com) into new server
If it is through, i will RSYNC the mailboxes as the final step.
    Please advise.

  • Does the Tech Comm Suite work differently/better then adding separate components?

I use CS4 everyday which includes Illustrator,  Photoshop extended, InDesign, Dreamwearver and Flash. I now have a need to convert FrameMaker files into HTML and to create Help files using RoboHelp and Captivate. Do I need to get the Tech Comm Suite 2 or can I just add the RoboHelp and Captivate components and upgrade my FrameMaker to version 9? What works better and what is more cost efffective?

Thanks Jeff for the information about importing not linking outside of the suite. I do want to link to the FrameMaker source file.
I will have to check with Sales at Abode to see about the intregration with or upgrade price available for adding Tech Comm suite.

  • Upgrading: RH7 separate product or Tech Comms Suite

    Hi Everybody,
I'm at a point now where I'm looking to upgrade to RH7. I
also need a copy of Captivate due to some deadlines that have been
set against me. These are the main two products I'm looking at.
What I really want to know is who, on this forum, have upgraded to
RH7 as a separate product and who has delved in to the Tech Comms
    Suite? Are there any gotchas?
I already have RH X5, which was an upgrade of an upgrade, and
Framemaker 6.0, which I haven't actually had a reason to use since
I joined the company. However, I was wondering if it's worth
upgrading to the Tech Comms Suite based on the Framemaker 6.0
product. What I can't find on the website is how does this upgrade
work? Would I receive a brand new version of RH7, CP3 and Acrobat3D
and an upgrade version of Framemaker 8?
The offer of all these products in one suite seems too good
to be true. What happens when just one product is upgraded? What
happens if I then decide that I have no use whatsoever for
Framemaker? Are all the products in the Tech Comms Suite full and
proper versions? So many questions... I searched for answers but
couldn't find any other posts relating to this, so if there is a
discussion going on elsewhere then please do point me in that
    direction.
Can anyone help me make my mind up? Thanks!
    Liz

Unless you have some pre-existing experience with Captivate,
you may find it hard to get all the way up to speed on that product
quickly. You may want to look at subscribing to Lynda.com for a
month and taking their on-line course. It's Captivate 2, but I'm
still finding it useful (as a total Captivate newbie).

As with RandiWrite, I upgraded from RoboHelp X5 (alone; I
didn't have any of the other products in the suite though I have
CS3 including Acrobat Pro) to TCS. I called Adobe Support for
confirmation that I was eligible before buying the product, and
they advised that I was. I had no trouble at all installing the
    suite.

Essentially you just get a full install package with the
whole TC suite on it. I opted for the download from the Adobe store
rather than the boxed version since it was slightly cheaper and I
was impatient to get it. (Also, they don't deliver to PO Boxes
which is the only way I could get delivery since I'm seldom in one
place long enough for a courier to find me.) I think that the
install procedure checks that you have the existing programs on
there, then away it goes and puts the new ones on as well. It
didn't remove X5 on my computer; I could do that myself without,
I'm pretty sure, any untoward effect on version 7; I just haven't
    bothered yet.
I seem to recall that when I upgraded to PhotoShop CS3 I had
CS2 on one of my two computers but not the other. (I think it was
on my notebook but not my desktop.) I was able to install CS3 on
the desktop without having to install CS2 first; as I recall, it
asked me for some kind of identifying code first to verify that I
was already a licenced owner of CS2. (Sorry to be so vague, it was
a while ago now.) My point is that Adobe has its act together (in
my experience) at letting you do upgrades from older packages.
HOWEVER, RoboHelp X5wasn't an Adobe product at the time and doing
the upgrade without having the X5 package installed may be more
problematic. This is academic in your case since it IS installed.
    quote:

It's true; this isn't Microsoft we're talking about here.

    quote:
What happens when just one product is upgraded?
You pay less, but you get less. But that's ONLY if it's ONE
product. Indeed, I found that it would have been more expensive (in
Australia at least, I don't know about the UK) for me to upgrade to
RH7 and buy Captivate than it was to upgrade to TCS. It's not dumb
marketing on Adobe's part, it's actually rather smart. By giving
you that value, it gets you to use more of their products (and lets
face it, while no software is perfect Adobe's is pretty good), and
consequently hooks you in for future versions. I know that RH has
imperfections, but I do love it. Same with Acrobat Pro.
    quote:
What happens if I then decide that I have no use whatsoever
    for Framemaker?
I don't, but I don't care. I may play with it at some point,
but the short version is that I still got the products that I DID
want (RH7 and Captivate) cheaper than buying them separately and if
anything else wants to come along for the ride I'll find it a room
    on my hard disk.

They are indeed. You can take them out in public or to a nice
restaurant and have no fear that they'll cause you embarrassment.

  • Adobe Tech Comm Suite Classroom in a Book or other books?

    Hi everybody,
I noticed on Amazon.ca, Adobe Tech Comm Suite Classroom in a
Book is still listed as "unavailable" which at least would mean
that it is still in the works but not yet published.
Neverthless, on Amazon.com, the book seems to be no longer
listed. Does this mean the book is no longer going to be published,
or that someone at Amazon in the US delisted it until a firm
release date is supplied by Adobe Press? Enquiring minds want to
    know!
Does anyone know of any other books related to
FrameMaker8/RoboHelp7 that are in the offing?
    Peter

That's a good start, but the documentation that's really
missing/inadequate is how to interface FM and RH in the Tech. Comm.
Suite. What features in FM8 are supported when you transfer to RH7?
Which aren't? Even a list of best practices and the reasons behind
    them would help.
What's the work flow? I'm slowly getting it, but I have a
*long* way to go and I'm beginning to be less optimistic that I can
    truly single-source.
It would be much easier if I had organized and detailed
    written documentation.

  • Access manager in comm suite 5 issue

    Hi all,
I have installed comm suite 5, will access manager and webserver 7 as a container, I am following the exact steps from the doc, but once I finish all the configuration, directory server and webserver all was running fine, is just when I tried to access the amconsole, it appears error 404.
    Please advise.
    Regards,
    Kah Haw

    Hi,
Make sure you enable messaging server for UWC access:
    cd /opt/SUNWmsgsr/sbin
    ./configutil -o local.webmail.sso.uwcenabled -v 1
    ./stop-msg
    ./start-msg
Failing that - try enabling the UWC debug logging, restart the webserver and see what it reports (/var/opt/SUNWuwc/WEB-INF/config/uwclogging.properties).

  • App Server EE 8.2 in Comm Suite 5 won't install

I've installed the full comm suite for Solaris 10 on an x86 box, and am just starting the postInstallation process.
I'm trying to do the postInstall for the App Server EE 8.2, but it is complaining that the appserv-rt.jar is missing, which I have confirmed is not in the dir, only other languages.
    ./postInstall /opt/SUNWappserver /var/opt/SUNWappserver /opt/SUNWmfwk
    Starting the Token replacements
    Please give the correct AS_INSTALL_DIR
    -Steve Maring

Nope. Same error message when trying to install just the 10.8.5 update rather than the combo or the supplemental. Any other ideas?
I can't even find this error message when I search Apple Support pages.
I'm headed for the app store to re-download Mountain Lion which should give me 10.8.5. It is 4.4 GB so it must be the whole thing.

  • I am migrating from Tech Comm Suite, eLearning Suite, and Captivate licenses to a subscription model.  I need help.

I already have an Adobe account that is associated with my work email.  We had purchased the Tech Comm Suite for Captivate and the eLearning Suite.  Adobe is not offering Captivate 8 as part of an eLearning Suite, but I DO need to upgrade.  I also would like to keep the other apps in both suites up to date, so we want to purchase a Creative Cloud subscription.  I don't have a clue where the serial numbers are kept, and as far as I know, the serial numbers don't show up anywhere in the app anymore.  Additionally, I cannot enter the billing information for my subscription because we have to make the purchase on a p-card owned by our administrative assistant.  So what I want to know is how to purchase a subscription for both Creative Cloud and Captivate that is associated with my email account without giving my login information to the administrative assistant?
Is it possible to purchase a team subscription and add my email address to the team?  I have to give explicit instructions to our admin.

  • Any idea when Tech Comm Suite will release?

I've got a print and help project starting in November, and
I'd love to start it using FrameMaker and Robohelp 7 from Adobe
Tech Comm Suite. My other option is RoboHelp for Word, of an
unknown vintage. So just when is pretty important to me. Anyone
    heard any scuttlebutt? -
    Thanks!

The official release date is probably known only to a few
select people in Adobe. All we can add is that the release in due
shortly. It is a case of watch this space. I'm sure it can't be far
off. They are already taking pre-orders.

  • Tech Comms Suite (upgrade version)

    Hi,
I am now the proud owner of the Tech Comms Suite upgrade
version 1.3. Reading the yellow slip of paper accompanying the box,
it says 'Adobe recommends that you uninstall any previous version
of Technical Communications Suite or any component of the Technical
Communications Suite... before you install Technical Communications
    Suite 1.3'.
My dumb question is: if you uninstall FM or RH software, how
does the software know which is your upgrade product?
I was planning on installing the Tech Comms Suite on another
computer temporarily, until I get used to the new UI, and thought I
would have to uninstall FM (seeing as I want to continue using RH
on my own pooty) and install it onto the same PC where I want to
install TCS. However, now it seems I don't have to. Is it just a
case of entering a qualifying serial number somewhere in the
upgrade installation? Has anyone here upgraded to TCS and can shed
    some light please?
    Many Thanks,
    Liz

Thanks Peter and Vivek for your replies. When I bought it
from the Adobe website I chose the upgrade from one product option
(not upgrading from TCS v1.0) and I did indeed I receive two disks.
The install trundles through. At the end it asks if I want to
open an application. Of course I do because I want to play, so I
click on the relevant radio button that selects an application to
open, then click on OK, or Next, or whatever.(sorry cannot remember
    actual name of button!).
I then get the screen where you choose to open the trial
version or enter the serial number. So I select the relevant radio
button and enter the serial number from the TCS box. I then click
OK, or Next, or whatever and then I get a popup error saying that
my serial number is not valid.
Technical Support have confirmed that it is a valid serial
number. I searched the forum and found there may be conflict with
Acrobat, but the computer where I installed the TCS did not have
Acrobat installed prior to installing TCS. I get the error message
when I enter the serial number for RH, FM and CP. I can open
Acrobat (as that didn't ask for the serial number) but I haven't
tried opening or creating a PDF file.
In other words, I don't get as far as entering the qualifying
    serial number.
Does anyone have any ideas for me to try please? Has anyone
else experienced this when they upgraded from one product (not TCS
    v1.0)?
    Thanks for your help
    Liz

  • Installing Comms Suite (update 2)

I have it up and running (on x86 Solaris 10) without Access Manager but IM isn't showing up in Convergence.
I was a little confused about some instructions not to deploy the XMMP/HTTP Gateway while installing IM, and configuring JID and Avatar before installing Convergence.
I deployed something just called HTTP Gateway during the IM install (though I think the value was false in iim.conf as the instruction indicated it should be - was a yellow box in the wiki).
I chose a string and password for JID and avatar and used the same values when installing Convergence during the IM part (though the JID and avatar strings were pre-populated with values different to what I specified in iim.conf, they seemed to be derived from my domain name). I used the password I'd specified in iim.conf. But even after restarting the machine, IM doesn't show in Convergence. Also, I can't login to IM via the Java client - it says incorrect login or passwd. I have tried uid and uid@domain/passwd. 5222 seems responsive via telnet.
Did I mess it up by deploying the HTTP Gateway initially during the IM install (any way to fix)? If not, I think the wiki should be more explicit to what to install first, and what not to do. It doesn't really say if you want IM in Convergence you need to install it before Convergence, and that when it says deploy HTTP Gateway, say "no" not false... Also, what about the AIM And YIM gateways and local - if I want them do I say yes to local also? Why no Gmail chat gateway?
It's nice to see folder sharing and direct delivery :)
ALSO - It's telling me: This message's digital signature verification has failed. (my sig works in other clients...) any way to fix?
    from my iim.conf
! known components/agent. Add yours as needed

Thanks for the info, I tried the Linux guide you mentioned, and everything is up and running including IM.
However, I can't seem to communicate with AIM, Gmail or our own Jive system... Do I need to enable anything? telnet host 5222, 45222, and 5269 are all responding. To communicate with gtalk or any other XMPP server you need to have server federation enabled on IM server. How can I enable server federation.
    Is this still valid:
    iim_server.openfederation.enabled = "true"
can't find a lot about that parameter - will try it though..

I said yes during the install for deploying each MSN, YIM, AOL, etc. and the local portions for each.
I looked at the doc you mentioned for YIM and noticed the iim.conf notes had the gateways disabled (is that how it should be to use these? mine are enabled) also the corresponding py<aim|msn|yim> files were generated and seem to have the correct values. The doc had the gateways disabled since those are the default values. If you have chosen to configure the gateways during configuration it will be set to "true" and that is the correct value.
In the IM fat client, I logged-in, went to file - add service, but none were there to be added. I can see the various pid files under: /var/opt/SUNWiim/default/log/Please check the following for gateways,
*Is python installed ? Are the gateways started when you start them, You could check the status using /opt/sun/comms/im/sbin/imadmin status /opt/sun/comms/im/sbin/imadmin status
    Server [UP]
    Multiplexor [UP]
    Agent:calendar [UP]
    MSN Gateway [UP]
    AOL Gateway [UP]
    Yahoo Gateway [DOWN]
    Watchdog [UP]
*If python is not installed in default path, set python path in /opt/sun/comms/im/config/gateways.conf fileI added:
PYTHON_CMD_PATH=/usr/bin/python (you would think by default it would not have a /usr/local/bin path on Solaris, as mine did?:)
since it wasn't specified in this path:
    GATEWAY_LIBRARY_PATH=/usr/local/ssl/lib/:/usr/sfw/lib/:/usr/local/lib
I also added /usr/lib to the front of GATEWAY_LIBRARY_PATH
restarted iim - still YIM DOWN - log file is empty.
*Ensure that the host is specified as FQHN in py<aim|msn|yim> filesyes all are FQDN. well msn and yahoo have a host which is fqdn aim has something called mainServer which is fqdn.

After all these changes restart the gateway services using imadmin command. Now you should be able to use the gateways with IM native client.
Will I be able to use AIM, YIM, etc. in the convergence im client? No gateway support is not present in Convergence IMBummer :|

Here is the SMS gateway configuration steps,http://wikis.sun.com/display/CommSuite/SMS+Gateway+for+Instant+Messaging
Thanks for the link, I'll check it out.
No special hardware is required for SMS gateway, however to recieve SMS messages on to your mobile you need to have an SMSC account. If you are planning to try/test this feature you can use the application "SMPPSIM",which is an SMSC simulator available free for download at http://www.seleniumsoftware.com/

You made suggestions for using memory mapped filesystem to increase performance - can you suggest a comparable setting for Solaris - can one be setup outside of tmp? What are the implications other than increased speed (oh I guess this FS would be limited in size to available memory?)?

  • Upgraded from Adobe Tech Comm Suite 3.5 to 5 without uninstalling first. How do I uninstall v3.5?

Upgraded from Adobe Tech Comm Suite 3.5 to 5 on Win 7 64-bit computer. V3.5 was not listed in Control Panel so I did not uninstall it first. Now I have duplicates of everything. How do I uninstall v3.5?

I figured out what to do on my own. I used the Tech Comm Suite 3.5 installer to install a component I was not using. Then the uninstaller popped up in Control Panel/Programs and Features and I used that to uninstall the v3.5 components (except Photoshop). Not sure if I should uninstall Tech Comm Suite v5 and reinstall it though. Seems to be working okay for now.
