Svc dsk and charms

Hi,
Is there any order to setup change request management and service desk?
do we have to setup svc dsk before charms?
From SPRO i have taken the following to setup CHarms. Is there any specific advise from those who already completed the Charms setup?
1- General -Activate BC Sets
2- Configure TMS settings
3- Run program SAPLSCMA in Solman and delete line, and add one. Access key req'd
4- create an index for SCMATREE
5- create number ranges for /tmwflow/m, tmwflow/d, tmwflow/v
(that is 0000000 to 99999999)
6 - Maintain critical objects - select system/client where u want to perform critical transports
7- configure charms reporting - Activate - TMWFLOW/CONFIG_SERVICES
8 - configure and activate cross system object locked
kindly reply..

Hi Mehfil,
I need a favour, i am also trying to setup the CHARM and i need any sort of doc which you can point which says step by step as what you pointed earlier as you did so and so step.
In our scenario currently we have Dev Solution Manager 4.0 SP12. Can you do some sort of test scenario for showing how CHARM concept will work by creating another client in Dev SolMan by making it as Consolidation System or do we need a seperate landscape like Dev R3, Quality R/3 with Dev R/3 as domain controller and configure the CHARM from Dev Solution Manager. If so can you help me in any sort of doc and how to decide which one should be done first...
Thanks,
Murali.

    Hello
I have configured Ibase for Charm, i followed spro config info as follows:
Manually Create and Assign the Component Systems asiBase
In this IMG activity, you define the Installed Base (iBase) manually, that is for refreshing existing iBases after solutions have been changed.
An iBase component has to be created for each satellite system from which Service Desk messages will be sent to the SAP Solution Manager system.
For the Value Added Reseller (VAR), it is not absolutely necessary to manually define the iBase at this point. We recommend, however, that you carry out this step so that you have a functioning test scenario.
    Activities
    1. In transaction Change Installed Base (IB52), choose iBase No. 1 (SOL_MAN_DATA_REP).
    2. Create under the IBase Header (SOL_MAN_DATA_REP) an IBase component, for example the SAP component system (SAP WEB AS) or use an existing one.
    3. To assign the systems as iBase components, go to the Text item tab.
Three components are included in the standard package.
    4. Add all the satellite systems as text items to the table:
Column Short text: Description of the system
Column Identification: System ID, installation number, client
    5. Save.
After changes have been made to a solution, repeat these steps to update system landscape data for iBase.
    Note:
Every system is only listed once in the iBases. That means a system is not listed in an iBase if it has been listed in another iBase before.
If the identification is not entered correctly, the system cannot correctly identify the component from the incoming Service Desk message.
Its really good and I have set up the config in that way only.
    If useful reward the points.
    Thanks

  • Link between implementation project configuration (SOLAR02) and ChaRM?

    Dears;
We want to benefit from listing all IMG Objects and developments in an implementation project (SOLAR02) to control our transports as we have ChaRM activated on the affected systems.
But there seems to be no link/control which has several consequences:
*Status of "changes" in ChaRM and related developments in the implementation project have to be tracked seperately
*There is no link between the development in the project (SOLAR02) and the created TR.
*There is no limitation/control in the content of the TR if it concerns items not listed in your project => how to check if the project is up-to-date?
Are my assumptions correct? Or am I forgetting something?
What is the experience in maintaining changes (transports) for implementation project? On what level? Linked with the structure in Solar02 or completely independant?
I have done quite some reading around the topics but documentation around project management via SolMan and ChaRM via SolMan seems never to be really connected? (only the overall status of the project and the activation of charm via SOLAR_PROJECT_ADMIN)

    >
    Jett Jiang wrote:
    > 1. Active Change Request Management. the inter-connect is in SOLAR_PROJECT_ADMIN.
    > 2. Use normal correction to control the TRs and updates the documents at the same time.
Thank you for the reply. Concerning these points:
    1) This is done... No questions there
    2) The "and" in your sentence means that I myself have to do both things? So there is no link?
So this does mean that (what my understanding was) I have to create a normal change via ChaRM but under the project for example a certain business scenario. That developers work on all topics related and should "remember" that if they put something under that transport they should verify if this is documented in the SOLAR02?
If then the change is put to testing they should manually update the status of everything related to this transport in the SOLAR02...

  • Tiles and charms stop working

Tiles and Charms stop working. When tiles stopped functioning (clicking on tile on desktop causes the desktop tile itself to scroll) and I could still access the search charm, I ran sfc/scannow as admin. It showed a couple of corrupt files it could not fix, but on reboot, the tiles and charms functioned again. Have been through this about four times at this point.
Seems to have started with the last Windows 8.1 update, and is somehow related to the OneDrive syncing engine.  I had not used OneDrive; started using it, and this mess started. I disabled all pc and laptop OneDrive settings and stopped using it. However, the "OneDrive sync engine" message appears for no apparent reason, and then the tiles and charms stop working.  If I have Outlook and Foxfire apps open, they still work, and their open windows still appear in the bottom toolbar. All the other app shortcut links that normally pinned there disappear.
When I try to shut the PC down, if I can do so via the power charm, I get a message that it can't shut down because the "Portrait Display Inc. app is preventing shut down." There is no such program shown in the installed program list in Control Panel. I understand from Googling it that it's somehow embedded in HP PC's.
This is an HP Envy Phoenix 810, with an HP monitor (non-touch), both purchased Dec., 2013. Running Windows 8.1, on automatic updates; using McAffee All-Access AV, up to date. Standard Office apps. No goofy software.
I see that many other people have had this problem, have used the sfc/scannow approach, with little lasting effect.

There is no dependency between RCA and ChaRM. There is no sequency for setting up as well.

Two days ago, I loaded Light Room 6. Today I went back to Light Room 5. LR 6 corrupted an entire folder of images, and caused errors on my Raid 5 causing win 7 to run "Chk Dsk" and fix the errors to the operating system. LR 5 has not shut down for the last 5 hours. LR 6 has a serious bug. Anyone else experiencing this problem. Yesterday I was on tech support, waiting for 3 hours, finally they picked up and informed me there department was closing and someone else would call me on Monday. So, I'm working today and all day Sunday to make up for the down time using LR 6.
I don't know if the bug exists in the program or the "Creative Cloud.
Question: Does anyone know why if I bought Light Room 6 [NOT Light Room CC with the monthly rental], I have to enter my serial number if I want to use it?

Entering the serial number is probably part of the registration process.
Just out of curiosity, what were you doing on LR6 when the folder of images became corrupted?

  • CTS+ and CHARM?

    Hello all,
What is the difference between CTS+ and CHARM?? Is it better to use one over the other?
    TIA

    Prakhar,
your link doesn't say CTS is the Admin execution and governance of change projects. That's the defintion of ChaRM.
CTS is Change and Transport System, which is needed for ChaRM but can be used without ChaRM.
CTS+ just adds the One-Transport-Order (OTO) part to CTS.
you can read more about CTS here:
    http://help.sap.com/saphelp_nw04/helpdata/en/3b/dfba3692dc635ce10000009b38f839/content.htm
CTS+ can be better understood here:
FAQs on the Enhanced Change and Transport System [original link is broken]
    from the above CTS link:
"CTS (Change and Transport System) is the transport capability of the SAP NetWeaver AS ABAP. This capability has been enhanced and now, the transport of non-ABAP objects is supported as well. The u2018+' or u2018enhanced' has been added to express this."

  • Win 8.1 Start button and Charms randomly stops working BUG (workaround)

To anyone experiencing this, it is a bug in Win 8.1 which I can replicate at will.
Reinstalling your system as suggested by MS engineers will not fix this.
To force the bug to appear:
    1. Grab a desktop Icon (recycle bin, any shortcut) and move this up to the top left hand corner without letting go of the mouse button. Drop shortcut anywhere on desktop. Without an Icon the mouse pointer would initiate the recent apps.
    2. To check that the first step has worked, try and invoke charms by moving mouse to top right hand corner.  If Charms do not appear then the bug has been triggered.
    3. Now move mouse over start button (no click), move away then back again. Now the start button is locked.  If you unlock the taskbar you can move it to any other position (top, left or right) and the start button works.  Move taskbar back to the
bottom and the start button still does not work.  Only way to get it working again is to restart window explorer in task manager.
To avoid this happening all you need to do is disable recent apps corner.
    1. Right click desktop.
    2. Click Taskbar and Navigation
    3. Click Navigation tab in the properties window
    4. Uncheck "When I click the upper-left corner, switch between my recent tabs."
Now the bug cannot be triggered as above to make the start button stop working. You have to remove this feature which is pretty hopeless on a desktop anyway.  Its better than restarting Window explorer every time.
I can replicate this on any desktop or laptop, fresh install or old. Not sure about any touch screen machines. I can also trigger this in VMPlayer\Virtual Box and the Modern IE VM images that MS provide.
Now the MS engineers can replicate this on their machines, and maybe if we are lucky they will FIX it!!!!
MS please acknowledge that this is a bug.
Maybe the issue is due to the windows button not being redrawn on the screen once triggered as it still works when taskbar is moved (graphic card drivers). Could not find anything use full in the system logs.
Just noticed also that the charms also breaks if you drag an Icon up to the right hand corner. Once triggered Charms stops working, start button is not affected with the above work around configured.
MS please read this and reply.

suspect it is local to your environment.
Others seeing the same symptom.  Note that originally I was not using the

  • Project documentation and ChaRM

    Dear all:
We are going to store the documentation at SOLAR01/02 and use ChaRM for our daily modifications. The porblem is that we still cant figure out what is the integration between those 2 components.  If I have to make a correction in the system, how could I set up an action in ChaRM or something that links to the corresponding document to be updated?  This is a maintenance project.
Could anyone shed some light on this, or refer to good documentation or whatever!
Thank you a lot in advance,

  • Full production refresh to development systems and Charm?

    Hi SDN Community,
Where I work we have a policy of refreshing the development systems (ECC, CRM, APO, BI, SRM) on an annual basis with full production system data, HR data is subsequently wiped clean from the development system.
For each of our systems we have a development system, a QA system and a production system.
The decision to do these full refreshes was taken to ensure that developers and configurers can do decent testing in the Dev environments - prior to transporting to our QA system - to ensure that we have a reasonably stable QA system. Prior to the refreshes - QA was considered too unstable by our business to be used as a good test platform - the full D refreshes solved this problem.
We have recently installed SAP Charm (Change request management) which is a solution manager based product that manages the transportation of objects in change requests - attached to maintenance cycles.
During our first development system refresh we discovered that all open Charm projects (maintenance cycles) were placed into an unuseable status due to the refresh. This means we had to rebuild all of the Charm projects after the refresh - which took a considerable amount of time + resources and delayed project work. We don't want to be in this situation again for our next refresh.
SAPs response to us has been that they have no other customer that does full Development system refreshes - and also has Charm. I wonder if this is accurate, I think what SAP are saying is that they don't have many Charm customers... Is refreshing Development so uncommon?
We are considering products like SAPs TDMS - and alternatives (eg gold client) - but most of these appear a little immature - for refreshing complex system landscapes - such as ours and keeping everything in synch after the refresh.
    My questions to SDN -
What do you do - do you do full refreshes to your D systems?
If not - what are the arguments against refreshing D systems (is this considered bad practice)?
Are there any other Charm customers out there in a similar situation to us?
How do you manage the stability of your QA environments and stop the transport into QA systems of untested changes - if your D systems are not similar to you production system
(note we have some 300 active users in just our ECC development system)?
Any suggestions / recommendations as to how to best proceed would be greatly appreciated.
    many thanks in advance,
    Julian Phillips
Edited by: Julian Phillips on Nov 11, 2008 2:33 PM

    Thanks Naushad for your reply,
I wonder if D refreshes are less common - more due to the additional hardware costs incurred (disk space needed to store full production data is usually pretty large) to do them - than due to avoiding disrupting development - probably a bit of both.
I did not mention this - but in our refresh we do reimport all transports that we open prior to the refresh - which used to solve our problems - in terms of restoring active changes - but with SAPs Charm system - this approach does not work as the Charm projects are left in an inconsistent status.
We are now leaning towards introducing a 4th set of systems into our landscape - so that we have the following platforms:
Development --->  Pre QA  ---> QA  ---> Production
This approach will allow us to keep both the Pre QA and QA systems refreshed every 6 months or so - and our new Dev system - we will refresh very infrequently (every 5 years perhaps) if at all. We will tie the Charm system to our new development - and this system will then not be impacted by refreshes. This approach means additional hardware cost - but as it happens we have a few spare boxes - so this maybe our best bet.
The core reason for our refresh is so that we will be able to preserve the stability of our QA test platform - which for us is the critical factor here. If QA has poorly tested work in it - we run a higher risk of disrupting other testing and also of this poorly tested work reaching production.
When we used to have a development system as you described and just the single QA box - we experienced frequent instability in our QA box - due to poorly tested working reaching it - and this delayed numerous projects.
Does anyone else have a 4 box setup like this? Anyone else encountered this on an SAP project anywhere? Pros / Cons of this approach?

  • Windows 8.1 start menu button and charms frozen

So sometimes when I try to click the bottom-left start icon, it suddenly does not work. I hover over it but it doesn't change color nor
work at all, but after i restart explorer.exe from task manager it starts working again. This happens randomly, and can happen again in a short while after restarting explorer.exe. I have this same problem on another computer running Windows 8.1 and I have
not installed anything extra on that computer yet. I saw someone say disabling OneDrive syncing would solve this problem, but even if I did that it is still occasionally freezing up. This has been pestering me a while now and is a bit problematic since even
event viewer doesn't have any information on it.
The problem doesn't seem to be explorer.exe as a whole, since the taskbar works and windows open and close properly. I can also view and use
explorer.exe normally (browse files and folders and open programs). However, the charms do not appear and the start button in the bottom-left doesn't work at all, i can't click it to get to the start screen nor right click it to show the menu. In other words
it seems to be the start menu freezing, but there's nothing in event viewer that would indicate a problem. Restarting explorer.exe fixes this problem temporarily, but it keeps happening every now and then.

  • Existing STMS configuration and CHARM setup

    Experts:
We have a  pretty complicated STMS configuration because of  many clients from ECC DEV, QA and one production client.
Now we want to set up CHARM.
Can we use the current STMS configuration without making any change on STMS for this CHARM project?
I have done a lot of reading on this and come up with this layout for logical  components:
    For customizing clients:
    DEV101->QAS101-> QAS200 ->PRD100
    DEV102->QAS102-> QAS200 ->PRD100
    DEV103->QAS103-> QAS200 ->PRD100
    For code development
    DEV104->QAS104-> QAS200 ->PRD100
Because QAS200 is the only QA client that has a tp router to PRD100
We plan to create a dedicated project (therefor a dedicated maintenance cycle) for each of above logical components.
Would you please inform us whether it's smart for us NOT change current STMS configuration?
    Thanks!

    Hi Jennifer,
I am quite sure that you can use the current STSM configuration with ChaRM. You will need to configure a logical component for each track and add to the same maintenance cycle.
It is important that you assign a transport layer to each of the development clients, but I am sure this is already done. Assign each QAS with role "target system ".
