SWF cache problem - strange behaviours!

Hi,
I am currently involved in a Flash widget project (AS 2.0 -
WinXP OS - IE 6.0) which has the following functionalities.
1) Set the BG style of the application - using FlashVars -
argument passing thrgh HTML to SWF
2) Make HTTP calls and retrieves data (in XML format), do
actions as per the data
We're facing few performance related issues and seeing some
strange behaviors from the right beginning.
First of all, what ever changes we make and deploy, it takes
long amount of time (sometimes more than a day) to get it
reflected! This time varies across PCs and some of them didn't even
show the result. Even after 2-3 days!!! We did clear all cache and
tried several times. But, no use. Is it related to the
'browser-swf' cache?
From other forums, I came to know that this's a general issue
and so many people pointed it. But, no one talked about a solution!
We cannot deliver the project in this shape and can't ask the users
to clear their cache each time they uses the application. Is there
a way to sort out this issue?
We've deployed the application in two different locations in
which one is a test environment. Both have different versions
running and pointing to different URLs. Interestingly if it stops
working on the testing server site, it also stops on the proper
site - yet they are on different servers!
Any help would be appreciated...

Could be that perhaps your ISP is caching ?
Don't know about nowadays but I remember that issue while ago
with AOL and Compuserve,
they kept cache for a very long time, sometimes even more
than 24 hours. Perhaps some
ISPs still practice that to reduce bandwidth use?

Use random string to load xml files to force new file off the
server each time.

Strange behaviour of .swf movies - AS2/AS3

Hello from Italy,
     this is my first post and I think I need some help from the experts...
     I am putting together an interactive Flash movie which is made of several different small movies. For the sake of clarity, I'll call them A.swf, B.swf, ..., Z.swf. The movies are launched from each other depending on certain buttons I've implemented.
     The first one, A.swf, is actually a sort of "main menu": it grants access to all the other movies and it is also the point of return from them when a certain button is pressed.
     Important: All the movies are scripted in AS3, except for the last one which, for a number of reasons, is scripted in AS2.
     The return from any (but the last) movie to the first, say B.swf to A.swf, is implemented like this:

     The strange behaviour is this: if I launch Z.swf and navigate with the proper button up to A.swf, everything works. But if I launch A.swf, navigate to Z.swf and attempt to return, this doesn't work. There are no problems, instead, moving up and down between movies scripted in AS3, that is with the first bit of code I've pasted. My guess is that the syntax in AS2 is correct, but something stops A.swf from "launching itself" when the control is transferred to Z.swf, but the movie is launched in the original window. Is this diagnosis reasonable? And if so, would someone kindly provide a way out of this? Re-doing Z.swf in AS3 is not an option, I'm afraid, it will have to stay as it is. I also have to add I've tried some solutions by setting _lockroot, but this doesn't seem to work.

Mixing AS2 into AS3 is not without stipulations... and I am no expert on translating those stipulations, but here is what the Flash documentation says regarding the matter... the third paragraph may be significant to your case:
- ActionScript 3.0 code can load a SWF file written in ActionScript 1.0 or 2.0, but it cannot access the SWF file's variables and functions.
- SWF files written in ActionScript 1.0 or 2.0 cannot load SWF files written in ActionScript 3.0. This means that SWF files authored in Flash 8 or Flex Builder 1.5 or earlier versions cannot load ActionScript 3.0 SWF files.
The only exception to this rule is that an ActionScript 2.0 SWF file can replace itself with an ActionScript 3.0 SWF file, as long as the ActionScript 2.0 SWF file hasn't previously loaded anything into any of its levels. An ActionScript 2.0 SWF file can do this through a call to loadMovieNum(), passing a value of 0 to the level parameter.

Nokia C3-01 -strange behaviour/ problems with Noki...

When I was choosing my new mobile, I had two options : Samsung Wave 533 and Nokia C3-01. After a lot of hesitance I decided to pick up Nokia, believing to its high quality despite its poor media potential. However, now I think that it was a bad idea.
      Firstly, I have never thought that Touch and Type won't have ability to adjust brightness of the screen (AWFUL IN THE NIGHT), set up more then one alarm and use many of JAVA applications. When I tried to install some applications, it said- out of memory. Out of memory?! My old SE K770i could much more! What annoys me the most is that I can't use my e-mail account via Nokia Mail. When I press the icon of it , there is an error Null pointer exception and applications shuts. Other strange behaviour- while I was typing sms , suddenly there was hard, long vibration, screen went white and mobile restarted. Other users of C3-01, check this: go to messages, then other messages , then direct , start typing and try to go back to menu- screen turns white, mobile restarts (I'm polish , so names may be a little bit different) . How on earth, can mobile restart so often?.
    , Secondly,the funniest one- Ovi shop. Important thing in every Nokia. Guess what- I can't use it! When I to launch the apllication and try to go to the shop, there is information that it's not avaible for my phone. I used it a week ago and worked properly.
      All in all, I hope that Nokia will share an update of software to this model. I am just so disappointed. What I am sure about that next mobile will not be from finnish enterprise.

I have C3-01 Since 4 Months Now and I havent Had a Single Complain about my device even though I am a Rough Handler and Using the Mobile Upto its Extend.
You Have 2 options, Try To Fix your Device at Home By :
Soft reset your Nokia C3-01 Touch and Type you need to press *#7780# and then Dial. The security code is 12345. Once you complete this, your phone will come back to factory settings, but you will not loose personal data. Anyway it is recommended to make a backup before performing any of the mentioned procedures.
To hard reset your Nokia C3-01 Touch and Type you just have to press *#7370# and press Dial. The phone will request the security code that is by default 12345. Please be aware that you will loose all the data in your phone, so you should backup all relevant information.
If Problem still persist then Connect to PC Suite/Ovi Suite and Reinstall the Firmware.
BUT U NEED YOUR DEVICE TO BE UPDATED TO ITS LATEST FIRMWARE = v06.05
If still not fixed then, REPLACE YOUR DEVICE ASAP, because as given by Nokia, C3-01 Device Works according to its Specification as Specified.

Strange behaviour with Safari.

Very strange behaviour with Safari this morning. Pages loading piecemeal or partially. The content only becomes viewable after the cursor has passed over the area. Have cleared caches and reported it but I'm wondering if this is a local matter here in the UK. Anyone suffering similar problems? Firefox is responding perfectly normally.

I see a reply has come back via a previous post. As I am trying to get a response to this one I shan't reply there but I should point out that for me, this is an isolated problem. I do use open DNS but with no track history of problems there , I can't blame that.
In the last few minutes normality has returned.

Strange behaviour in ORacle Forms Webutil 106 / Error message WUC-14 WUC-12

This is to inform you about a strange behaviour in Webutil V1.0.6
Hosting environment is Oracle Application Server 10.1.2.0.2 on Unix Solaris 10
Oracle Server 10.2.0.4.0 Enterprise Edition
Client-envionment : Windows 2000, IE 6
I created an Forms based application which reads in certain text files into the database using
Webutil. The data will get changed using the application with logic and lateron a different textfile
will be transmitted using either ftp or it may be created on the client side (again with Webutil).
This solution worked perfect for some time (a year or so) using CLIENT_TEXT_IO...
Hoewever, during the week, I recognized users coming up with the statement that the download
to the local client does not worked anymore in certain situations. The system is producing an error-msg
on the Form in the following sequence :
WUC-14 [getFromObjectCache] ...
WUC-14 [getFromObjectCache] ...
WUC-12 [FileFunctions.newLine()] ...
I traced the session and traced WebUtil, was able to reproduce the problem but could not find out the source
of it in the first place.
Hoewever, it came out, that part of the file being created on the client is a "¿" sign : hex :$BF
This was already part of the file being read in the first place, so the value is stored in the database.
There is no problem when reading a file having a content like this with CLIENT_TEXT_IO but there obviously is one
when writing it to the local client.
The file is getting processed on the client and gets closed with CLIENT_TEXT_IO.FCLOSE.
After the FCLOSE statement is getting processed, the above errors occurs, The length of the produced file is then : 0 bytes ^^
Whenever facing a problem like this check the content of the file you are trying to create.
Workaround was :
- set workingDirectory in formsweb.cfg
- using Forms based TEXT_IO rather than CLIENT_TEXT_IO to create the file on the backend side (Apps-server)
- implement WEBUTIL_FILE_TRANSFER.AS_To_Client_With_Progress to download the file to the client
In order to make it a little bit "colourful" I implemented a bean with progressbar when creating the file on the back end side
Works perfect... and looks nice :)

1. Close ALL open browsers.
2. On the client machine search all directories for webutil.*properties and delete all instances of that file.
3. Delete d2kwut60.dll, JNIsharedstubs.dll, and jacob.dll from the JRE\bin directory.
4. Clear the JRE jar cache. This can be done several ways, but using the Java Control Panel is likely the easiest and safest.
Now stop the OC4J instance and start again and try at client...

Strange Behaviour after re-installing the OS

Hi people.
Basically, i've been experiencing some strange behaviour with Safari since re-installing my OS. I'm running Safari 3.0.4, and i'm on a G4 iBook running 10.4.11.
Firstly, it's not remembering passwords and user names to a few sites. My homepage is set to a Auto Forum i use daily. Now, when putting your password in you can check a little box that says 'Automatically log me in each time i visit'. I tick the box, when Safari ask's if i want the password to remembered i say yes. log-in as normal. If i then go away from the page and come back to it without quitting Safari, it's asking me to log in again. It remembers my password details etc, but doesn't perform the auto login like it used to. I've reset Safari, cleared Cookies, Cache etc, but to no avail. It's becoming quite annoying!
Secondly-the scroll bar on the right side of the screen keeps disappearing-and when it does, i can't manually scroll down the pages with the arrow keys either. Any thoughts? If manually moving from site to site, it's ok-it's when i access my bookmarks page and the scrollbar disappears, that it seems to remove it for good. I then have to quit Safari and re-launch it. But then i'm back to square one! If i need the favourites, i'm stuffed!
Any help appreciated...

Thanks for the reply! I've started to download the update, got Pacifist already so it's just a case of the download finishing. I'm a bit worried though, i ran disk utility earlier and it came up with 2 errors, one of which couldn't be repaired. I hope it's not the HD on it's way out and causing problems as the new HD isn't even a year old yet...
I get a bold red message when using Disk Utility, which reads:
"Invalid Leaf record count
(Should be 2 instead of 46)
1 Volume could not be repaired"
I guess i'll give the Safari thing a go, then go for Disk Utility as per the other thread. Don't really want to wipe the HD and do another install-only done one 2 weeks ago!

Strange behaviour in direct renderMode

Hello folks,
I have been developing a mobile game with Adobe AIR and Starling Framework.
The game works fine in most devices that i could test (Android and iOS).
But in a especific tablet model it's happening a strange behaviour in standard diplay list render. In Stage3D it's all right.
I can't explain the problem with words but I attached some images about a simple test on device.
The problem is solved when i change the render mode to "cpu" or "auto" but the Stage3D doesn't work.
Anyone ever seen this problem?

Safari 3.2.1 Strange Behaviour

This week Safari 3.2.1 is exhibiting very strange behaviour that I have never seen before. I can launch Safari and it opens my home page no problem. I can then access another page anywhere on the web, no problem. But then, if I click a link to open another web page (in same tab window) it says "Looking for server" and hangs. This includes trying to reopen my home page (which is a local file on my hard drive!). However, if I open another tab and then click another web link, it opens in the new tab window. But then it exhibits the same strange behaviour if I try to open another link in that new tab window. Then Safari hangs totally if I try to quit the program and have to use "Force Quit".
This behaviour is affecting my login only. The program works normally in other logins. I have tried deleting the .plist file in my home library but to no avail. I have deleted all caches as well (using "Reset Safari" command).
I am stumped and need advice on what may be causing this.

Download and run Onyx. Select Automation. Only check system and user caches in the cleaning section. Restart your computer.

Roaming Profiles / Wrong permissions? Strange Behaviour...

Hi, got some problems with roaming windows profiles.
Server: XServe G5 | Mac OS X 10.5 | working as PDC
Client: Windows XP Professional SP2
1. I'm able to connect with Windows-Client to PDC, newly created folders (e.g. on Desktop)
are stored in the profile, also files / programs within this folders - when user logs off
files and folders are stored properly.
2. When I try to get the same profile at a second Windows-Client the profile could not be
loaded because of that created file within that folder (1.).
I get an Windows-Error-Message: "Error performing Inpage Operation"
That only happens because of the saved /created files in the new created folders. When I create a folder, without saving a file inside, it works without problems. Profile settings are loaded properly.

Cache problem when loading modules ?

Hello Flex friends !
I am currently experiencing a strange problem. It happens in
my production environment when using my web browser to access the
application. Here it is :
The main application is a menu on the left and a ModuleLoader
in the center. Regarding the menu's button I click, the
ModuleLoader will load either ModuleA, ModuleB, etc ... nothing's
special until then, everything works fine.
Then I update the ModuleA.swf and Module.swf files. Now when
I click the menu's button I get the old ModuleA and ModuleB.
This seems to be a cache problem, no ? I thought the browser
was going to compare the local ModuleA version and the server
ModuleA version and then load the server ModuleA version, but it
does not seem to work this way. So How does it work ? I'd like to
understand.

Hi,
Try this.
Step 1: Goto Details, Status get the IDoc number,and go to BD87 in R/3,place the cursor in the RED IDoc entroes in tRFC
queue thats under outbound processing and click on display the IDOC which is on the menu bar.
Step 2: In the next screen click on Display tRFC calls (will take you to SM58 particular TRFC call)
place the cursor on the particular Transaction ID and go to EDIT in the menu bar --> press 'Execute LUW'
(Display tRFC calls (will take you to SM58 particular TRFC call) ---> select the TrasnID ---> EDIT ---> Execute LUW)
Rather than going to SM58 and executing LUW directly it is safer to go through BD87 giving the IDOC name as it will take you
to the particular TRFC request for that Idoc.
OR
Directly go to SM58 > Give * / user name or background (Aleremote) user name and execute. It will show TRFCs to be executed
for that user. Find the particular TRFC (SM37 > Req name > TID from data packet with sysfail).select the TrasnID (SM58) --->
EDIT ---> Execute LUW

APEX Listener and EPG - strange behaviour

For some years, I've used EPG for APEX but have struggled with performance particularly as I can have up to 150 student developers using at any one time.
I do a fair amount of work using ORDImage and have successfully developed APEX applications to upload image files and display full-size and thumbnail images.
After upgrading to APEX 4.1 (from 4.0), I decided to install APEX Listener standalone.
Before I did so I checked that my applications still worked in 4.1 and they did.
However, just installing APEX Listener but not configuring it (yet) has meant that my image display in a report using a procedure based on wpg_docload.download_file( l_ordimage_image.source.localData ) no longer works in EPG - the images are not displayed.
Configuring APEX Listener and running the same application through that DOES display the images.
So this part of the application works under APEX Listener but not under EPG.
My application also allows users to upload images from APEX_APPLICATION_FILES using standard code. Under APEX Listener after uploading, I'm left with a blank page with a wwv_flow.accept URL although the image does indeed upload. Under EPG it works as expected and I get a success confirmation.
So this part of the application works under EPG but not under APEX Listener.
Has anyone else come across different behaviour depending on the mode of connection?

Hi Brian,
it sounds like you have both EPG and APEX Listener running on the same machine, so your problem might result from a port conflict. Note that both services use TCP port 8080 as default.
At least a port conflict would explain the strange behaviour in your case, some things working on one web server and some on the other.
Some parts of your initial post hint to that direction, e.g.

However, if you are sure that's not the issue, please check if you see any error in the APEX Listener's log for the following action you performed:

For further investigations, if necessary, it would be helpful to know how you deployed or started your APEX Listener and which JDK version you use.
For the moment, I still think the port conflict is my best guess.
You could avoid it by either changing the port for EPG (I'd not recommend that if you have other users still using it) or by changing the port for your APEX Listener.

horray! in this version the java version is correct! processor architecture is not empty but totally incorrect and the reg query is still err.
any help is wellcome
note: i only put stuff here, which returns me strange behaviour, most things are working correct with my functions (using the Runtime.getRuntime().exec(command); code)
note2: "reg query "HKLM\HARDWARE\DESCRIPTION\System\CentralProcessor\0" /t REG_SZ" IS working, so why are "some" queries result in ERR, while they are working if typed by hand in cmd.exe?

ok, i exported a jar file and execute it from cmd:
java -jar myjar.jar
now the output is:
(1) "" if called by version 1, possible to retrieve by version 2 (no clue why!)
(2) "java version "1.6.0_10-beta"

so all three problems are gone! (but its a hard way, as i need both functions and parse a lot of text... :/ )

View Master mode strange behaviour with jpg files

Hy all,
I'm using Aperture, and I'm tweakin a lot the SW to discover all secrets ....
I'm really concerned about a strange behaviour of the SW in view mode.
If I open a jpg file, do not apply ANY modification, and apply the "show master" command (pressing M), there's a subtle behaviour :
*the images get sharper !!!!*
It behaves as if an "edge sharpening" was applied !!!!!!
With _RAW files this thing doesn't happen at all._
Even stranger, if I zoom to full definition (by pressing Z), and toggle between normal view and "show master" view, the immage remains the same !
The effect is not so evident with all images, but sometimes it is !!
Anyway, I expect not to have such kind of things with a professional SW.
With professional cameras and good quality files it's really annoying not to beeing sure what's the REAL content of the jpg image.
Has anyone noted this thing ? Is there a reasonable explanation ?
The only one I tried to figure out is the following : may be Aperture applies some kind of resampling algorithm with jpg files (bicubic, bilinear, etc).
May be this resampling is not applied with 100% magnification, as weel as with raw files.
But it's only my guessing. Now, I'm tweaking other viewers and other SW to understand what's the real jpg image stored in the file : the blurer one form normal view or the sharper one with "show master" mode.
I stress once again : of course, the jpg file I'm talking about have no settings at all, just imported and toggled with M button.

I'm afraid I'm not been clear.
The problem is this :
1) jpg image opened in normal view mode, no zoom, (no quick preview, of course) : image with a certain amount of blour
2) jpg image opened in show master mode, no zoom, (no quick previre, of course) : image SHARPER with respect with the previous.
No edit applied from import, so "show master" command shouln't apply any change in rendering, should it ?
The only thing I said on 100% view is that such difference (between normal mode e show mastermode) is not present with 100% magnification.
That was the issue.

Strange behaviour: two servers on the same port

I hope this is the right section for this post. I need help about a strange behaviour involving a ServerSocket.
For my thesis I need to write a program that receives data from a pre-existing DSMS client, filters them and then sends them to a pre-existing DSMS server. And here is my problem: if I try to create a ServerSocket on the same port of the DSMS server, my program throws no exception, and the servers seem running on the same port. This is a behaviour that I'd like to avoid, but I cannot understand what the problem is. Can you help me?

The problem is still happening to me, I tried in this very moment. The code I'm using is the one I posted, and the second server is the one that I linked. I don't think there's anything else to add.
If you're sure that the problem is not in my code, then it means that it is in the linked server, which partially solves the problem. But I'd like to know, if it's possibile, if there is any other way to check if the port is already in use.

Windows 8.1 Enterprise Evaluation- Strange behaviour of network adapter

Hello there are discussions and questions around this community about network adapter dropping connection while system is running. But I have found unique problem with my network adapter driver.
I have tried to state my problem as clearly as possible. Please ask if any detail is required.
My network status shows no access on following occasions:
1. On alternate system wakeups.
eg:
a. System boots up
Internet accessible
no problem
b. I put system to sleep(first time) and wake it up
No access to internet !!!
When I check in network and sharing center not even adapter shows in disabled status.(See video from the link given below).
c. Without restarting system or without installing network adapter again, I put system to sleep again and wake it up (2nd time).
Internet accessible
d. I put system to sleep for (3rd time) and wakes it up.
No access to internet!!
If I put system to sleep again and wake it up definitly I get network access.
2. If I switch off the modem before windows shutdown completely or in the process of shutdown, next time when I boot system, even though the modem is switched on before booting the system, No internet access tooltip will be shown on network
sysbol.
Another strange behaviour is on no internet access status, I start installing adapter, and it loads required files and prompt me to click "next" and "click" install.
But the thing is before I go to "next" button, I will get network access as shown in this link
http://youtu.be/sPlXVEiYBeo. Ignore virtualbox adapter. Same behaviour was there when there is no vbox adapter. Same was happening in Windows 8 Pro, but not in windows 7, so that there is no H/W problem I think.
Any idea on how to fix this or any alternate solution ?

Firstly, access your network adapter official website to get the proper driver applied to your system.
Then going to Control Panel > Device Manager, right click your adapter > Properties. Under the Power Management tab, make sure "Allow the computer to turn off this device to save power" checkbox unchecked.
If it still persists, try to disable "fast startup" as below steps:
1.In Control Panel, open the Power Options item.
2.Click the Choose what the power buttons do link.
3.Clear the Turn on fast startup (recommended) check box.
4.Click Save Settings.
