Swing child window

I want to add a new window (child window) . it should have only close button (no minimize and no maximize) and it should be a normal window (not a JInternal frame but a normal child window). How can i do that?

  • Swing: how do I launch a child window?

    How do I open a child window or frame, get the user input on this window, and return to the parent window? I know JOptionPane has some static methods that triggers message windows, but they're too simple to meet my needs.
    What lines of code should I write in the parent window (JPanel/JFrame)? And what object should I create for the child window? Thank you!

    JDialog d = new JDialog(f, "Enter something!", true);
    // assuming f is a reference to the main JFrame
    // fill with whatever GUI
    d.pack();
    d.show();
    // will block til closed...
    // read in filled data...
    You can do more in JOptionPane then is suggests. If you want some complex GUI to enter different things, do the JDialog thing. If you just want one value, you can do something like this:
    JPasswordField pwd = new JPasswordField();
    Object[] objs = { "Enter password:", pwd };
    if(JOptionPane.showConfirmDialog(this, objs, "Enter password",
              JOptionPane.OK_CANCEL_OPTION,
              JOptionPane.PLAIN_MESSAGE) == JOptionPane.CANCEL_OPTION) {
         return; // cancelled
    } else {
       String pass = new String(pwd.getPassword());
       // use it...
    }

  • Child window invisible during playback

    Forgive if this is discussed in the forum. I could not find
    it, so just point me in the right direction if I missed it.
    We are evaluating Captivate to be a part of an ERP
    implementation training infrastructure. In general, we like it a
    lot. One problem.
    The ERP we use is a dot net application. There is a parent
    window that is the main menu and child windows that open when
    specific functions are selected. Some of those windows do not
    appear in the playback. The mouse actions are there and sometimes
    subsequent windows appear, but the first child (second open) window
    often does not.
    Right now we are doing simple recording, so there is no real
    finessing, post recording editing, etc involved.
    If we can clear this problem, we will be able to proceed with
    this product.
    thanks

    Hi camickr,
    Sorry i am so confuse to solve this problem.
    check this code.
    Now run this code and try to move JDialog when you move JDialog JFrame color spread over the JDialog.
    import java.awt.Color;
    import java.awt.DisplayMode;
    import java.awt.GraphicsConfiguration;
    import java.awt.GraphicsDevice;
    import java.awt.GraphicsEnvironment;
    import javax.swing.JDialog;
    import javax.swing.JFrame;
    public class Light1 {
         JFrame m = null;
         JDialog di = null;
         public Light1() {
              GraphicsDevice graphicsDevice = GraphicsEnvironment.getLocalGraphicsEnvironment().getDefaultScreenDevice();
              GraphicsConfiguration graphConfig = graphicsDevice.getDefaultConfiguration();
              DisplayMode origDisplayMode = graphicsDevice.getDisplayMode();
              DisplayMode displayMode = new DisplayMode(1024, 768, 32,origDisplayMode.getRefreshRate());
              m = new JFrame("",graphConfig);
              m.setBackground(Color.red);
              graphicsDevice.setFullScreenWindow(m);
              if(graphicsDevice.isDisplayChangeSupported()){
                   graphicsDevice.setDisplayMode(displayMode);
              di = new JDialog(m,"");
              di.setSize(400,400);
              di.setVisible(true);
              m.setVisible(true);
         public static void main(String ar[]) {
              Light1 l= new Light1();
    I hope now you understand my problem

  • ADF: Parent Child Window Popup

    Hi All,
    I am having a requirement in which, I am trying to create Parent Child window in ADF. I will give some information in the Parent form and there will be a button which will popup a child window and I will enter some information in a child window and submit, it should come to parent page without displaying the details entered in the child window and once I click the submit button in the Parent window, both the Parent and Child window Detaiils should get saved to the database. I am trying to use ADF or ADF BC.
    Please provide me the steps that need to be followed.
    Thanks.

    This is a common use case. You question on the other hand shows that you not really tried the figure our the answers yourself.
    It's too much you ask us to do your work.
    First you should think which technology (swing or faces) you want to use. Then you should read up some of the documents (i.e. the Fusion Order Demo, or any other sample or cue card) to get some knowledge of the framework.
    I you have a problem then, come back and mention the jdev Version you are using.

  • How To create a JFrame child window

    Hi guys,
    for the first time I'm trying to develop a java application with GUI using NetBeans.
    I've created three Jframe classes and i want to set two of these as child-windows on the Main class but I couldn't find how to do this.

  • Data transfer B/W parent windonw and child window with out java script

    hi ,
    i am using h:outputLink Tag to open child window , i am unable to pass parent window text box value to child window with out java script , Here i am using two different backing beans for parent and child windows . Plz help me .

    Hi -- I pass details between pages regularly. The following has worked for me:
    ApplicationFactory factory = (ApplicationFactory) FactoryFinder.getFactory(FactoryFinder.APPLICATION_FACTORY);
    ValueBinding binding = factory.getApplication().createValueBinding("#{beanName}");
    BeanName beanProperty = (BeanName) binding.getValue(FacesContext.getCurrentInstance());
    ... then set the you can set the values. Can't recall if I need to use SaveStates for the items. Probably if you use request scope beans.

  • Accessing variables from Child window from the parent window

    Hi All,
    I am in the process of integration of payment gateway, here I am opening payment gateway page as a new window, and after payment is done then I need access one variable which is hidden variable ...any ideas

    Have a hidden field/js variable in the parent page. Add a Javascript function in parent page which would take a value as parameter and set in the parent page hidden field/js variable. In the child window, you can invoke the method from script block as window.opener.setValue(document.getElementById('CHILD_WINDOW_HIDDEN_FIELD_ID').value)

  • Session expiration issue with parent and child window

    Hi,
    We have two applications (App1 - Implemented using JSF, Spring and Hibernate and App2 -Implemented using Spring MVC, Spring JDBC).
    I have implemented 'Test Access Content' functionality in App1.
    First admin user (Role- Manager) needs to login to App1
    As part of 'Test Access Content' functionality, he enters URL with encrypted key and click 'Test Access' button.
    It opens new window (implemented using java script - window.open) and hits spring controller of App2.
    In spring controller of App2, I am decrypting the key to get user details. After that i am setting user details in session, constructing final URL to display actual content.
    Problem is parent window maintains session till child window renders response. Once child window renders response, parent window loosing session.
    So, if i click any button in parent window after child window renders response, it displays login page as there is no session for parent window.
    Please note that App1 and App2 are sharing same domain. only context paths are different for both apps (app1 and app2).
    Any suggestions on this issue are much appreciated. Please let us know if you have any questions.

    Hi,
    When you open a child window from parent window then you can access child data in the parent window through javascript.
    We have a main web page. There are quite many links on it from which >user can open new web pages but the data is saved when the submit >button on the main page is clicked. Also data that user entered on the >other sub pages is not displayed in the main window.
    1 is this a case of parent and child window.case 1 When you are submitting the main page you need to run javascript function and get data from child windows and save that to database or session. next time when you are displaying the main window you need to query session or database to display the child window data in the main window.
    Case 2> closing child window and you need data in the parent. This can be done in two ways.
    1> When you are closing the child window populate some variables of the main window using javasript.
    2> Save the values in the database or session and refresh the main window and extract data from database or session
    Where should the data be saved that user enetered on the sub pages as the data is not shown in the main page - should it be stored in the session?It is design decision. You can store data in either session or database when you are closing the child window. But ifyou are saving the data on the main page then you can populate main page with child windows data using javascript. Save the data t database when main window data is saved. Depends on business requirements.
    In short if you are saving child windows data in session or database then you need to refresh main screen to pull that data otherwise populate main screen using javascript.
    I hope i answered your questions :) best of luck

  • How to define Side Panels for linked to Child Window Applications

    We are trying to use the NWBC Side Panel with PPM 6.0 in NWBC 3.5.  We have a Role that has a menu defined that gives the users a link to the INM_WORKCENTER_APP which displays the current user's Tasks in a table.
    When we click on a task in the table it opens the task details using the CPROJECTS_FPM application in a new window.  This new window that opens up doesn't have any of the Side Panels that we have defined on the role with the main menu links.
    We have tried to add the side panel using different application alias and at different levels in the Role, but can't get a Side Panel to show up on the child window.  We even tried to switch the window to open INPLACE in the main window and it still switches to no side panels.  The only side panels we are able to see is side panels that the user has manually added under connections and the Data Context Viewer side panels.
    Is NWBC capable of having side panels to be defined to be available for these linked to child applications that are called from a main application screen?  If so, what is the possible configurations we need to make on the role for this to work properly?
    Thanks in advance for any help!

    Wanted to close this thread with the solution that worked for us.
    We had to change the Launchpad configuration for Role CPROJECTS Instance OIF.  We changed the Application from a Web Dynpro ABAP type to Object Based Navigation.  Set the Application Parameters Business Object to PROJECT and Operation to DISPLAY.
    Then for our role defined in PFGC for our NWBC, we added a new menu item to the Web Dynpro application CPROJECTS_FPM with Configuration CPROJECTS_FPM.  Then under Object Based Navigation we set the Object Type to PROJECT and Method to DISPLAY to match what we set above in the Launchpad.  Then set the menu item to be invisible since we didn't want it to show to users.
    Now when we launch the child window it uses OBN and sees the definition in our role and utilizes the same Side Panel definitions defined for the role.

  • How to make the parent window inactive when a child window is opened

    hi everybody, i am chaitanya. i am working on a window based application. there are some action events in it. when an event occurs then a child frame is opened prompting the user to confirm for yes or no.
    the problem i got is, when the child window is opened the parent window is also active. I dont want this to happen. please help me to fix this problem.
    thank you all in advance, have a nice day.

    Use a modal JDialog, or better still given the apps. requirement for input, a JOptionPane. The JOptionPane.showInputDialog() or JOptionPane.showConfirmDialog() methods seem well suited to the task.

  • Maximize/Minimize MDI Child window

    Dear Members :
    I am on Oracle forms 10.1.2 and irrespective of whether value of separateFrame=true/false, when I try to maximize mdi-sheet window (within application frame), the whole thing flickers and after some time browser crashes. Does "maximize allowed" property not work for child windows in MDI application ?
    Behavior of minimize is also peculiar, as the the whole mdi application frame develops a vertical scroll, when I again try to resize the minimized mdi-sheet window, as it shows up with it's original size down from it's lower position; instead of getting back to where it originally appeared.
    I tried above both using JInitiator and JRE - but same behavior.
    Could anyone please suggest ?
    Thanks in advance.

    ...If you want to make your voice heard to the VC++/MFC developer support people via Connect, that is a reasonable option.  If others vote the "me too" there, your suggestions might gather enough weight for some future action.
    <
    Robert, if you do post a bug report on Connect please post a link to
    your bug report back here so we can find it.
    I guess the bug report is really that Windows 8 doesn't draw MDI child
    windows in a consistent style to the top level frame window (I see the
    same thing using Forte Agent, so I don't think it's an MFC issue).
    For instance, if you are asking that MFC include some new visual manager(s) to support the newer Windows 8 appearance,
    Please, no more application specific "visual managers". Don't make it
    easy to make an inconsistent mess of UIs.
    I've just been saddled with a WPF application that's a right mess in
    that respect - some parts change correctly when the user changes the
    Windows scheme to high-contrast, while other parts use AvalonDock with
    its own theme idea of what the colors should be.

  • Communicating between the parent and child windows in Struts

    Hey,
    I would like to know what is the best way to communicate between the child and parent windows on a struts based web application. For example i have a struts based jsp page. I call a child window from this page. On the child window i select few values and they have to be shown on the parent. What is the best way to achieve this in struts.
    Thanks
    in advance.
    KM

    The only way to do this without Javascript is to have the child window have a form and the form has a target defined as the name of the parent window (how to name it without using frames or having it open from another window, I'm not sure), and when you submit the form, it'll submit to the parent window/frame and you can process that form on the server and return the same parent page with the selected values.
    Otherwise, you need Javascript to set form values to "window.opener" from the child window.
    Either way, it's not really a Struts thing, technically.
