Synaptics Track Pad and HAL

Question

Hello,
I just installed Arch on a new Acer Aspire One 751h.  I have used Arch before, but haven't installed a graphical environment since hwd was recommended.  Anyway, I got HAL to autodetect all of my hardware correctly (as far as I can tell, so far).  I don't even have an xorg.conf file.  Nice, progress.
But I can't get my Synaptic track pad to work at all.
Here's the relevant config stuff:

It doesn't seem like HAL recognizes my configuration data at all.  (Notice "TapButton2" is different below)  But on the other hand, HAL is aware that a touch pad is installed.  (I checked, and it matches dmesg's report, so it is finding real hardware)

But in the end, the track pad doesn't work -- no matter what i do:

Anybody have any ideas?

This was pretty dumb in the end.  As the logs show, the SynPS2 touchpad was detected correctly.  I just had to turn it "on", with a special Function key combination.
