Synchronisation PXIe-6361 and PXIe-4492

Hello,
I'm trying to measure data with the two above mentioned cards in an PXI-Chassis (PXIe-1073) - the vi is attached.
Unfortunately I'm not a LabView specialist and the measured signals of both cards have a time offset of app. 5ms.
Can anybody tell me, how to synchronise the signals?
Thanks for your help!
Jürgen

Hi Jürgen,
the sigma-delta ADC of the DSA device needs some samples until he has proper data.
So you have to ignore the first 80 to 100 samples from the device.
And for the sync, this KB shoul help:

I hope this helps.

  • Is there an output switch at the analog front end of PXI-6723 and PXI-6713?

I was reading the analaog output user manual and i could not find this. Is there any output switch just before the analog output of each channel for PXI-6723 and PXI-6713? I am would like to have total isolation between when these output are not needed. If yes, is there any specification to refer to?
    Thanks.

    Hello Chris,
I would recommend having a look at the examples in the LabVIEW
example finder to start with. In particular i would look at 'Cont Gen
Wfm-Ext Clk.vi' This is a basic example that allows you to output a
waveform through the card and source an external clock source to do
this. I would recommend exporting the sample clock that you wish to use
from the 4462 on one of the RTSI lines and then setting this as the
sample clock source for the Analog output card.
Another good example to look at is the 'Cont Gen Voltage Wfm-Int Clk
non regeneration.vi' This does not regenerate the same waveform in the
buffer but instead creates a new waveform to output after the previous
one has been written to the buffer.
It should be noted that there may be some gliltching if you are
updating the waveform. This is because the buffer will already have a
waveform in there to output before you input the new one so a new
frequency may not have an exact number periods that fit into the
pre-defined buffer. If you are looking to generate dynamic waveforms
then the best option for the best results would be one of our arbitrary
    waveform generators here.

    Hi,
What sould be tha "Driver Setup" for PXI 2569 and PXI 2529 in Switch executive under 'Driver Session"
    Regards!!!
    Vineet Shukla

    Hi Vineet,
You do not need to insert anything under Driver Setup.  Anytime you are using NI switches, you can simply click Configure NI Switches when creating a NI Switch Executive Virtual Device to configure the topology settings of those switches.
Just so you know, you can insert information under Driver Setup, and then you wouldn't have to use the Configure NI Switches wizard.  More detail on what to insert under Driver Setup can be found in the following KnowledgeBase:
How Do I Create a Virtual Switch and Use it in my Application?
    http://digital.ni.com/public.nsf/websearch/A1F0D6A3357E14B386256E4B0071FDA2?OpenDocument
In short, you would type "Topology:" followed by the topology name such as "2569/100-SPST" or "2529/2-Wire 4x32 Matrix".

  • Simultaneous analog and digital waveform read with PXIe-6361 and BNC2120 ?

    Hi there,
I am trying to collect both analog and digital signals from a PXIe-6361 linked to a BNC2120, using the attached VI. I am running Labview 2011 64bit. This is the first time I am working with digital input. On the 2120 board, I have the digital input BNC cable connected to User Input 1 and wire between the screw terminal of UserInput 1 and the P0.1 (Digtial I/O) screw terminal.
I have two questions related to this:
    1) When I try to run the VI in its current state, I get the following error:

Possible reason(s): Specified route cannot be satisfied, because it requires resources that are currently in use by another route.

Can anyone point me in the right direction for troubleshooting this?
    2) I would like to combine my regular waveforms and the digital waveform into one array which would then be written to file. I can't figure out how to combine the two different waveform types...can anyone give me a hint on this?

    Hi ClaireJ,
Sounds like a reference clock conflict. This KnowledgeBase (KB) talks about this error when using simultaneous sampling. Also, might want to check the device routes in Measurement and Automation Explorer (MAX) as discussed here. Finally, if you are routing your PFI line over a RTSI connection, this error can occur. This KB discusses it.

  • Swapping hard drives between PXI-8115 and PXI-8105 won't boot up

I have a test system running Windows XP on PXI-8105.  I've upgraded the entire test system for another project and need to upgrade my existing systems; the upgrade runs on Windows 7 and PXI-8115.  I have new hard drives with Windows 7 and the new test software which were loaded/configured/tested on a PXI-8115, but I need to retrofit the PXI-8105 with them.  This doesn't work.  Windows begins to boot but fails and tries over and over again.  In an effort to take the PXI-8105 off-line to troubleshoot, I replaced it with one of the PXI-8115 and the old (WinXP) drive.  This didn't boot up, either.
Here's a summary of my situation:
An old system has PXI-8105 running WinXP
A new system has PXI -8115 running Win7
A hard drive (with Win7) from the PXI-8115 won't boot on the PXI-8105
A hard drive (with WinXP) from the PXI-8105 won't boot on the PXI-8115
What is different between the two PXI controllers that keeps me from swapping hard drives?

You're entirely bonkers. But I'll tell you a secret. All the best people are. ~ Alice
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

    A couple thoughts:
    1. Windows 7 probably works fine on a PXI-8105. Although NI never officially supported or shipped that configuration, I suspect that the default Windows 7 installation contains enough of the driver support needed to boot up.
    2. In general, Windows is not very tolerant of swapping hard drives between completely different systems, especially with Windows XP and prior. Consider whether just installing fresh and copying over what you need is faster than trying to do this, but if you must, I would suspect that Windows 7 would be more tolerant of the swap.
    3. As a debugging step, try pressing 'F8' during the boot process to launch the Windows boot menu and try safe mode or some of the other options.  More information here.
    4. If all else fails, Google is your friend here as there's nothing particularly specific about this being an NI product that you need to know when attempting this operation. Any information you find online about swapping hard drives between PCs should be relevant to your situation. Searching for 'swap hard drive to new computer windows 7' gave some useful hits on the first page. Beyond that, you can also look into using the 'sysprep' utility to try and clean the system and prepare for swapping to a new PC.

  • MAX does not detect my PXI-5122 and PXI-6551 cards in a PXI-1045 chassis.

I have been using a PC with MXI-3 to PXI-1045 chassis to develop LabView TestStand code.  Things are fine on my development PC.  [Software configuration report attached nireport_rich.txt].
I have a 2nd PC set aside to test my deployment packages.  I installed a GPIB card and MXI-3 card in my deployment test PC, and loaded a bunch of hardware drivers.  [Report attached nireport_depPC_0006.txt]
All the PXI cards are found just fine when my development PC is connected, but when I power up my deployment PC (with MXI-3 connected to the 1045 chassis) -- I can't import the development configuration [exported from development PC] because the deployment PC does not see the PXI-6551 DIO card in slot 6 [PXI6::10::INSTR] and the PXI-5122 card in slot 13 [PXI8::15::INSTR].

    Appreciate your assistance and reply.
The pxisys.ini and pxiesys.ini files are modified by me with referring to
1)PXI System Alliance PXI-2 SW spec,
    2)PXI-6 SW spec,

The content in pxisys.ini/pxiesys.ini generated by MAX looks like simple. Consequently, I modified and checked it line by line according to actual hardware of PXES-2590+PXIe-3975. Then, MAX just list devices as described in the first post. I tried to find the root cause but in vain.
Is this minor issue can be related any incorrect tag lines in pxisys.ini or pxiesys.ini I posted?
Is any suggestion tests I can do to troubleshoot root cause?
    Looking forward your reply.

  • Memory upgrade on PXI-8105 and PXI-8106 controllers

    Hi,
I've recently upgraded the memory of three PXIs; one with a PXI-8105 controller and two with PXI-8106 controllers.  Both the 8105 and 8105 can take a maximum of 4GB (2x2GB) of DDR2-677 (PC2-5300) memory (see links below).  However, on all three systems, both the BIOS and the O/S only see 3.3GB.  Any idea why this might be the case?
I've tried flashing the BIOS (v1.4 on both PXIs), but with no success.
We're using COTS memory (i.e. not bought from NI) but I'd be hard pushed to believe that that is the cause of the problem.
    Thanks.

Are these controllers running Windows? If so, this is normal expected behavior. I think it might have something to do with the fact that Windows reserves the rest of the memory for driver addressing (could be totally wrong there). The same thing happens on my Dell desktop PC with 4GB of memory in it.

    Hello,
I am trying to generate a pulse modulated CW signal with the PXI-5650 as the RF source and the PXI-6653 as the modulating signal. Basically I am trying to generate a simple radar waveform. It seems like this would be possible to use the Timing Module (6653) to turn the RF output on/off on the Signal Generator (5650), but I am not sure how to route signals from one to the other using LabView.
Has anyone tried this or something similar before? Can anyone please offer some advice?
    Thanks!

    Hi John,
From reading your post, it sounds like you want to use your timing and sync card to turn the RF output on/off, in others words, On Off Keying. OOK modulation is a built-in feature to the 5650. For more information, you can navigate in the NI RF Signal Generators Help to Devices -> NI RF Signal Generators -> NI 5650/5651/5652 Overview -> Modulation Modes, and just click on Modulation Modes.
An example of this can also be found in the NI Example Finder by navigating to Help -> Find Examples... in LabVIEW and then navigating in the NI Example Finder to Hardware Input and Output -> Modular Instruments -> NI-RFSG -> Modulated Waveforms -> RFSG 565x Digital Modulation.vi.

  • Spectrum Frequency Error with PXIe-5641R and PXI-5600

    Hello,
following situation: I am using the PXIe-5641R (in FPGA-mode) in combination with the PXI-5600 downconverter to get a spectrum.
After trying out with different span widths I've experienced strange frequency errors in the range span <10M.
To negotiate errors in my program I've evaluated also the NI example of http://zone.ni.com/devzone/cda/epd/p/id/6196 - unfortunately same error in frequency happens there.
What is meant with frequency error, for example:  I have a transceiver which sends FSK with center frequency 443,92MHz. Readings with span-width = 12,5M shows overall good results.
Reading with span width smaller 10M, eg. 3,125MHz, gives unexpected readings.
With a center frequency of 433MHz and a span of 3,125MHz the transmission is out of range of spectrum. When I add an offset of 2M to the calculated IF-frequency, I get right results.
With a center frequency of 434M I've got readings at 434,92MHz, means at 1MHz too high (after adding an offset of 1M to IF freq readings are correct).
With center frequency 435MHz readings are correct. The limit between correct and wrong is exact at 434,5MHz (resulting IF = 14,5MHz) readings at that center frequency are good, just one step below (434,49MHz) readings are 1MHz too high.
Where is the error hidden? Like I said this behaviour happens also with the NI example.
    Thanks for helping!

To get closer to the problem: I've managed to get constant right results in editing the VI which calculates the IF-frequency for the IF-RIO after setting center frequency and span of PXI-5600.
But the new values make no sense at all. Documentation says that with spans higher 10MHz step size of center frequency is 1MHz, below it is 5MHz (with lower phase noise). After my modifications it seems that step size is 1MHz at all span widths higher 1MHz and 5MHz at span widths lower 1MHz.

Could you provide some additional details concerning your setup? The SCXI-1112 has a maximum sampling rate of 333 kS/s. Thus, most likely, the program that is controlling the hardware is determining the sampling rate. Which development environment are you using? What type of programming structure are you implementing with regards to the SCXI-1112? Single-point acquisition (software timed)? Buffered acquisition (hardware timed)?
