It is difficult to suggest unless you let us know what SHELL you are using.
if the TAB is not working , you should give a try with Esc key and to see the history of command you may want to use "history" / "fc" command. You can repeat the command using the index number displayed by the "history" command, this again depends on the SHELL you are using. In some shell you can use "!+command first letter" or "r+command first letter".
I can provide better solutions when you let us know the flavor of unix you are using.

  • Sapftp - syntax for put/get command

    Hi,
    I am trying to troubleshoot some issues and need to run the report RSFTP002 (to execute FTP command from SAP GUI). After providing the input data for user,  password and host, I am using the following for command1: put C:\test.doc and for command2: get test.doc.
    I am getting the following error for the 'put': "C:\test.doc: The filename, directory name, or volume label syntax is incorrect".
    I have tried running the same(sapftp) from windows command prompt (on the frontend workstation) and get the same error. If I use windows ftp, it works fine.
    If someone can let me know what is not correct in the syntax, I would appreciate it.
    Thanks
    Nirmal

    Try adding the destination file name to your put command, like this: put C:\test.doc test.doc  It appears that parameter is required in SAPFTP.

  • UNIX command required to elevate end user Admin privs on  mac

    Hi All,
    I thought this would be easy but we've drawn a blank.
    So much detail online and in the ARD manual seems to be about setting admin priveledges for end users of actual ARD.
    What we would like to do is to make the user an administrator of their computer temporarily.
    So rather than browse to their computer, take control, log them out, log in as administrator, go to accounts and then select eheir account and tick the "Allow user to admister this computer" box - I was looking for a UNIX command that coudl be sent.
    Any help greatfully recieved.
    thanks
    Gareth

    I believe this will work, but test it on a testbed system first. Send the following UNIX command to the target computers:
    dscl / -append /Groups/admin GroupMembership ARDusername
    where "ARDusername" is the user you want to add to the admin group. To remove the user's admin rights, substitute -delete for -append.
    Hope this does the job for you. If not, it should be close, so persual of the man page for dscl should help you to the correct syntax.
    Regards.

  • Run multiple unix commands from ODI procedure

    I want to run a series of unix commands from ODI procedure. I dont want to use Unix shell scripts. (I know that works).I am just trying to place the contents of the shell scripts in ODI procedure with Operating system as technology. But I am unable to execute the proecedure.
    For example below is a very small 3 line commands I would execute
    filename="/var/test.txt"
    ls -l $filename > /var/anotherfile.txt
    chmod 777 $filename
    I am not sure if there is any specific syntax that I have to follow for executing unix commands. Also I dont want to write a Jython and use os.system command as well.
    Appreciate any help on this

    First your original question... You can put more than one DOS command on a single line, simply separate each command with an ampersand (&). For example:
    mkdir c:\abc & cd abc & dir*
    Regarding your concerns about performance, well that would depend on exactly what you mean. Using CLIENT_HOST (or HOST on the server) simply opens a shell (DOS in this case) then passes your command to it. The performance of performing this action really isn't measurable. Basically you are just pressing a button and you should get a near immediate action. As for the performance of executing each command, that has nothing to do with Forms. Once the command is passed to the shell, the rest is a function of the shell and whatever command you passed.
    Having said that, if you were to write something sloppy like a loop (in pl/sql) which called CLIENT_HOST lots of times repeatedly, then yes there would be a performance problem because the pushing of the button will cause an exchange to and from the server and each cycle in the loop will do the same.
    So the answer to how performance is impacted will depend on what exactly you need to accomplish. If it is a single call to CLIENT_HOST, this should be fine.

  • Executing UNIX command in Java

    I am having problems executing a command in Java. Here's the code I have for executing:
    Process p = Runtime.getRuntime().exec(cmd);
                                            BufferedReader input = new BufferedReader(new InputStreamReader(p.getInputStream()));
         while((display = input.readLine()) != null)

                             percent = (num_1 * 100) / (50000000);
                        flip = 1;
                        catch(IOException e)
                        e.printStackTrace();

  • Unix command to update Microsoft Office 2008 via ARD

    I'm looking for a unix command I can send via ARD to update Microsoft Office 2008. It just needs to install all updates and then restart. Kinda like apple's software update one: softwareupdate -i -a; shutdown -r now

    Why go through all the trouble of trying to do it in Unix.  Apple and Microsoft made it a LOT easier.
    Just download the update from Mactopia
    Open the .dmg
    (for convience and ability to have it stored) Drag the Update from the Microsoft folder that opens up and put the update on your desktop
    In ARD Select what computer(s) you want to install the update in
    Use ARD Install function to install the update
    Go have a cup of coffee and a donut while ARD does the install.
    You do not even have to do a restart.  Microsoft uses a different icon for the update but it still is a package file operation.

  • Unix command to send to remote computer

    I am looking for a unix command or automator action ( to use with ARD) to send to a remote mac that is running Safari. I would like to be able to reload a web page by using a unix command. Can anyone help me with this?

    You mean you're trying to load a local file that's saved on the remote computer? If that's what you're trying to do, you can use the Spotlight search (if the client is 10.4 or 10.5) or the File Search to find the file and then just launch it. If this will be repetitive with the same file name, you can save the task if you have ARD 3.x.

  • UNIX command to set time

    I'm looking for a UNIX command to set each client machine to use a network time server to obtain the correct time. Any help would be appreciated. Thank you.

    systemsetup -getusingnetworktime
    Display whether network time is on or off.
    systemsetup -setusingnetworktime<on off>
    Set using network time to either <on> or <off>.
    systemsetup -getnetworktimeserver
    Display network time server.
    systemsetup -setnetworktimeserver <timeserver>
    Set network time server to <timeserver>.

  • UNIX command to open applications

    I'm looking for a UNIX command to open any application on a client machine.
    I am also looking for a command to set the time of each machine to use a Network Time Server.
    Any help would be appreciated. Thank you.

    open /Applications/path...
    e.g.
    open /Applications/Safari.app
    time server:
    # turn on network time and designate a network time server.
    systemsetup -setusingnetworktime on;
    systemsetup -setnetworktimeserver time.apple.com;
    the time unix commands are available as a template from the send unix command window.

  • ARD UNIX Commands (create user)

    Looking for a good resource for ARD Unix commands.. have lots of projects trying to do through ard..
    first is create a new user so I can do it across many machines..
    Thanks.

    In addition to the sources Templeton mentioned, a good book on UNIX for Mac OS X (such as the O'Reilly books) would be useful. You can send through ARD many of the UNIX commands that Mac OS X recognizes, though of course you have to be careful what you send or you can cause yourself lots of problems.

  • Learning Unix commands (and automator/applescript) for a dummy :-)

    Hi:
    I've been supporting macs for many years and have done mostly user end support with all the various GUI tools. I've never been a programmer, never had the mind for it, etc.
    However, I've now reached the point where I need to do some kind of scripting and I'm looking for some good learning/training tools. I was wondering if anyone might have suggestions about the best training / reference guides to go about doing this. Right now, it's as if I need to play a little Beethoven, haven't learned Chopsticks yet and I'm trying to find out how to play chopsticks while learning a little Beethoven at the same time. (how's that for a metaphor?)
    For example: For my first project, I have to set up a backup for some laptop users so that certain files will be backed up. The need is different for each user, so this is why setting up a script would be easiest. My goals in the setting up this project are:
    - Make the script run at logout (logout hook)
    - check to make sure the network volume I want to backup to is present; if not present, stop the script
    - Use either cp or rsync to copy the files/directories to the shared volume.
    I've tried to look around the internet for help, examples, etc, but I've been unable to put together exactly the commands I need to sue to accomplish my task.
    Any suggestions would be great.
    Thanks!

    If you already know something about unix commands, there is a scripting tutorial at http://www.tldp.org/LDP/abs/html/index.html
    If you need a tutorial on unix commands, http://osxfaq.com/Tutorials/LearningCenter/UnixTutorials/LoseTheMouse/index.ws had a pretty good tutorial, although at the moment, that link isn't loading for me now so I don't know if it is still up online or not.
    for creating logout hooks, http://www.bombich.com/mactips/loginhooks.html might help.
    Also, in Terminal, type man launchd.plist if you can think of a scenario where you could implement a "cron-like" solution. Then refer to Apple's own periodic daily/weekly/monthly launchd plists (com.apple.periodic-*ly.plist) at/System/Library/LaunchDaemons/. There are more triggers available than just day/date/time, such as "watchPaths" and "RunAtLoad." Home grown launchd plists ones should go in /Library/LaunchDaemons/ or Library/LaunchAgents, not /System/Library/LaunchDaemons/. Also man launchd (no ".plist").

  • Unix commands for Teachers?

    Anyone know a unix command to lock the volume on a client at a certain level? I have a script to "set" the volume. I don't want my students to be able to turn it back up.

    Have you tried using the man pages for the various commands? At the Unix command line, type "man top" (or "man <<executable name>>") and you'll get the Unix manual pages for each command. Those explain the purpose of the commands, the options and syntax, etc.

  • UPDATE command syntax for mulitple checkbox update

    Hi,
    I intend update the checkboxes by id in bulk.
    My table is below. I want to update the selected form_id
    checkboxe and their
    values accordingly. That, I click the checkboxes (containin
    form_id
    information) of 1, 3, and 6; and I check their respective
    fields for column
    check01 and check02.
    form_id check01 check02
    1 1 0
    2 0 1
    3 0 0
    4 1 1
    5 1 1
    6 1 0
    I am using below code for deleting. I can do insert into. But
    I could not
    figure out the correct syntax for UPDATE command similar to
    below example.
    Sample for deleting:
    DELETE FROM ADS
    WHERE AD_ID IN (varCheckBox)
    Thank you
    Hakan

  • UNIX command for disabling Firewall in Leopard?

    I'd like to use ARD to send a unix command to all my Macs running Leopard that will set the OS's application firewall to "allow all incoming connections." I believe that's the default setting, but I've run into some machines that are setting specific access - not sure how, don't really care, just want to turn it off.
    I've been reading up on /usr/libexec/ApplicationFirewall/socketfilterfw but the Help seems incomplete and I'm not sure this will accomplish what I'm after.

    defaults write /Library/Preferences/com.apple.sharing.firewall state -boolean No
    followed by a reboot works like a charm. thanks for you help.
