System Copy 701 AS-JAVA Downtown Reduction

I have completed the subject copies before. and am looking to see if there is any short cuts.
I am doing system copies of an AS-Java, BI-Java, EP, EPC system, No ABAP stack.  This is an AIX Oracle 7.01 system.
To make the target systems available sooner,  I was hoping to begin the installation of the target system first.  I am using the db-copy method.  Normal procedure would be to run sapinst on the source system to create the migration export CD for Java.  And then start sapinst on the target system.
I was hoping I could complete the target system sooner if I could start the target sapinst before I complete the source sapinst export.  It seems the export of java is not used to the end of the target system build so I was hoping I could complete the target build through the Oracle installation/patching.  Then when I had my source system backup and java export, I could continue the target installation.
Unfortunately, the Target installation looks for a label in migration export path.  So you can't even complete the parameter input on the target system.  Does anyone know if there is a way around this?  If this is something you do repeatedly, could you use an old java migration export location to get past this check, continue the target install up to the database restore, and then put the current java migration export files in that path?
Or do I have to forllow the normal process of Source system java export followed by target install?
Thanks, Pat

You could try the Option "Parallel Export/Import Option" with the parameter Load Procedure Fast during Import Phase
You can start setting the parameters in the target system , at the time it asks for the destination of the Export File , give the destination , and then start the Export process in the Source system .
Once the the Source system Export starts , continue with the Target System Import give the required parameters .
Now , as your export files are generated , they are simulataniously imported in the target system .
You could use the FTP option when it asks for the protocol of tranfer as it is faster .
This should considerably reduce the downtime.
Please go through the System Coupy guide at SAP Service Marketplace also , as it would be explained there in detail .

  • Error during Homogenous System copy of ABAP+JAVA stack

    Hi All,
I'm trying to do a homogeneous system copy of an XI system NW04s on Windows 2k3 and Oracle database to another windows 2k3 machine. SCS and Database went on fine but during CI installation on the target system I'm stuck at "Run ABAP Reports" phase.
    I'm getting an error:
MUT-03025 Caught ERfcExcept in Modulecall: Exception condition "WRITE_FAILED" raised..
runRADDBDIF was executed with status ERROR
The ABAP stack is however up and when I login to 000 client using DDIC user and try to execute the report RADDBDIF, I get a runtime error RAISE_EXCEPTION with Exception condition "WRITE_FAILED" raised.
A RAISE statement in the program "SAPLSUGI" raised the exception condition "WRITE_FAILED".
If anyone has encountered similar problem, kindly help me.
    Regards,
    Sameer

    Hi Juan,
I've already checked dev_disp and dev_ms but didn't find any errors. However, I got some errors in dev_w0. I'm pasting the same for your reference.

  • Homogeneous System copy of ABAP+JAVA stack ( PI )

    Hi everyone,
I am planing to do Homogeneous system copy of our existing NW 7.0 SR3 PI System ( ABAP + JAVA).
Can anyone help me with step by step details to do in source system and target system?
    Thanks..

    Hi,
You should follow the system copy guide for the different option while doing the system copy
    - database dependent
    - R3load based (export/import)
The following document you can use as a reference, (note -this has been done on database dependent method)
    https://www.sdn.sap.com/irj/scn/go/portal/prtroot/docs/library/uuid/f055cbd0-97f1-2a10-c09a-907b811de000

  • System copy for ABAP+JAVA system using SAPINST method

    Dear support,
We have recently upgraded to ECC 6.0 system and we have been still doing system copy by using backup and restore method. I know its<b> wrong</b>.
which involves below steps , this old methos works fine for ABAP engine and evreything looks ok.But java engine will not work.
So we need to use SAPINST method as described in note 785848 and system copy guide available on OSS. But i am really not able to understand sequence
for tasks to be carried out in this SAPINST method.
<b>Can anybody list few sequence along with step by step procedure as i mentioned below for old system copy procedure.</b>
Is it really difficult to make that for <b>SAPINST</b>  as everybody says refer to standard guide and note ?
Anybody if possible can make the same way as i did below , i think it would rather be small as far as my understanding after reading those docs.
Simple old system copy procedure works for ABAP is as:
Run the following command on source system.
    a. Login as <sid>adm
    b. svrmgrl
    c. connect internal
    d. alter database backup controlfile to trace;
    e. exit;
    f. Above command will generate a .trc file in /oracle/P01/saptrance/usertrace directory.
    g. Copy the text from CREATE CONTROLFILE until the ( and paste it in to any new .sql or controlfile.sql file.
    h. Copy the controlfile.sql to target system.
    i. Edit the file and replace the entire source SID to target SID.
    j. Edit the reuse database command with the set database command
Copy the aft generated during the backup file from the source system to target system. (/oracle/<SID>/sapbackup)
    a. Change all the source <SID> to target <SID>.
    b. Only don't change the backup volume name it must be target system <SID>.
    c. Copy the above aft file name line from the source back<SID>.log to target<SID>.log file.
    5. Shutdown the target server instance.
    6. From this onwards all the command on the target system only.
    a. Login as <SID>adm
    b. run the SAPDBA
    c. select J (Restore/Recovery)
    d. select B (Full restore and recovery)
    e. select A (Select backup of type)
    f. Select the offline backup which you want to restore.
    g. It will take some time to restore.
    h. Once the database is restored login as <SID>adm and run the
    i. svrmgrl
    j. connect internal;
    k. startup nomount (if the database is already mounted shutdown it using the shutdown command)
    l. run the following command
    m. @controlfile.sql (file name of the control file contains the CREATE CONTROLFILE statement)
    n. After the run the above command it should give the "Statement Processed)
    o. alter database open resetlogs.
I am really looking forward to see anybody take some time out to prepare this kind of step by step procedure.
It would be of greate help for all of us for performing system copy with sapinst method.
    Looking forward for your support.
    Best Regards,
    AjitR

    Hi,
As per the guide you need to do source system Technical Preparations, in that running the export preparation is also one. You need to run this first before you start the export, if and only if export will successful if preparation is successful.
Yes you need to create the export directory to take the export copy of source system, it may be any where in your server. It should be having 6 to 8 GB free space. No need to create the export directory in target system, after export is completed in the source system you copy the export directory to the target system.
    <b>Target system</b>
Yes you need to take the back up file system and delete all the contents of the directory.
Yes it can be considered as fresh system installation but copy of source system.
Yes the process follows after you giving the export directory path .
Next screen you will get the database drop and recreate screen chouse the drop and recreate method
Next J2EE user name and password
    Next DDIC password
Next you have to give kernel and oracle client dvd path
Next Parameter checking screen here if you are selected database drop and recreate you have to revise the oracle database system option
If you are selecting review next screen is database advance option you have to select the advanced option
Next you have to select following option to recreate
    1 Sapdata directory mapping
    2 Database instance file system
    3 Create database parameter
    4 Create tablespace
    Next screen sapdata directory creating
Next screen you can just click next no need to change any setting
    Next table creation
Next screen specify oracle instance directories
Next again parameter checking and last this is last screen
Next will be the execution screen
    Reward points if usefull

  • BI system copy without the Java :consequences ?

    Hello,
We have a SAP BI.7 environnement that we are going to sopy from PRD to QAS.
Actually, our SAP BI.7 includes two different systems the BI-ABAP and the BI-JAVA hosted by two different hosts.
We have been asked to copy only the BI-ABAP system, not the BI-JAVA.
What are the consequences of this procedure.
Since BI-JAVA is by definition hosting the Bex Web, is there any risk of data loss : loosing some bex queries for eexample ?
Thank you in advance for your help and your attention.

Because of the user rights we got the issue.
    Thanks,
    Praveen.

  • System copy NW04S ABAP+Java same host

    Hi All
I have this dev system ECC 6.0 (SAP_SID and DB_SID: D01) ABAPJava system and enterprise portal 7.0 (SAP_SID and DB_SID: P01) on the same host (hostname: host1). Now I need to do a system copy of the D01 ABAPJava system to build new system D02 on the same host - host1. Its Oracle 10g/Solaris 10.
My understanding is, after all preparations, to run sapinst with the 'database-independent procedure' to export ABAP+Java at the same time, which creates the Migration Export CD image. Does anyone know of any issues with system copies on the same host? I think I dont need to install Oracle software as its already there, right? I need to get the oracle and sap directories created for the new system D02, please correct me.
    Thanks
    Ali

    Hi,
My understand was have the same installation of ABAP+JAVA ( UR CASE) which will install oracle and everything else auto...and lauch sapinst >> system copy >> then export to anyfolder, move that folder to target system. In target system, launch sapinst >> system copy>> and import.
    Thanks,
    Feel free to revert back.

    Hi everybody!
    Someone can help me?
I am doing system copy CRM 2007 (NW 7) from DEV to Sandbox system. after database recovery sap is unable to make connection to database (DB is up and running). R3trans -d finished with 0012.
My question is how to change database schema after system copy. this might be the reason sap is not coming up.
    Please advise.

    Hi Andy,
Did you change the tnsnames.ora file to point to your new sid?
What does the trans.log output say?
(Just a curious question, but did you apply your sap license for the copied system)

  • System copy sapinst method no java engine found

    Hi all,
I have completed my system copy of R3 ECC 6.0 and BI7 system to another machines for testing purpose using sapinst method.
Basically i have used installation master DVD and went for option Additional software life cycle _ system copy -- Source system - Based on abap + java -- Export
and then along with DDLs from  SMIGR_CREATE_DDL program i have prepared Export and performed Import at target machine with
installation master DVD and went for option Additional software life cycle _ system copy -- Target system - Based on abap + java -- Import
    Give different hostname this time.
all phases successfully completed in both machines and i am able to login to both systems successfully.
But unfortunately i dont find j2ee_process table in MMC ( as i have in source system ) , but everything is green
in MMC and smicm transaction shows no HTTP port entry but again green signal.
Is there anything else to carry out to get j2ee_engine working at target system.
also http://host:port/nwa for target system not working ,
Can anybody throw some light on this issue , initially i was struglling for getting this import successfully done but now j2ee_process table is an issue for me.
    Best Regards,
    AjitR

Since it is Test machine , i tried with option
Additional software life cycle tasks --> java Add in for ABAP --> central system -->
    central service instance java addin
and provided required inputs for screens and task completed .
Now i can see j2ee process table under MMC .
Is this normal scenario we should do after system copy through SAPINST ?
If i have performed sapinst system copy for ABAP + java system then why it was not included in first import success ?

    Hi there,
after a regular system copy of our Java-only Portal the system does not come up.
'startsap' warns with these messages :

and, yes , these really important directories do not exist - under /usr/sap/<SID>/JCxy/j2ee/cluster/server0 there is
only ONE directory , which is 'apps' .
database starts, but not the j2ee engine
    OS :Solaris 10, Oracle DB
I'm confused (i did the system copy 2 times, because I did not believe what I saw ....)

There are NO logs, either dev_server* nor dispatcher.

  • System copy of JDI system.

    Hello Experts,
We have our JDI on admi1 server (6.40).
We made a system copy of admin1 java +abap stack in order to create a support path.  (admin1 we are plannign to upgrade, admin2 will be our support path in downtime)
Basically we are trying to mirror JDI on admin2 server.
after the system copy i went in  and changed the values in the dtr server, cbs server on admin2 and changed them to point JDI on admin2.
The track we have is for a ESS devlopment. I checked out code from the track. (here the dependent component popup  has only one ess/per...the components xsss/pcui and utils  and  many other components are not showed up in the popup). In our admin1 server are the dependent components are showed in popup window.
When I tried to build the project, its throwing over 1000 build errors. I am assuming it is because the dependent compojnents are missing in popup.
Can anyone suggest me where I can add those built time components or suggest me a checklist of items I have to do after doing a system copy.
    Thanks,
    James

    Hi James,
did you checked your track in CMS and at CBS.
in CBS->comaprtment you can check all the DCs and SCs are available in track or not.
acoording to situation re configure your track.

    Dear Akram
Can you check what files are exported from the source system while performing system copy.
Also, if you run sapinst on target system it asks you system copy using standard method or attach/detach method.
    Which is selected?

  • Note 585277 - iSeries: System Copy - SDM Export?

    Hello,
Can someone explain why it's necessary to do an SDM export as part of this process?  I got to thinking, if we were in a position where we needed to recover from a hardware failure, we wouldn't have an SDM export to use to rebuild the system.  Is this something we should be exporting / saving with our daily backups?  Or if we have it exported / saved once is that sufficient?  Thank you.
    ~TJ

    > So in a disaster, if I want to rebuild the system, where would I get the SDM export from?  We backup the pieces of the IFS during our daily backups (along with the abap / java database), but it's not packaged as a nice export.  If we needed to restore, could we use the IFS backup, or would we have to have that stored as an SDM export?
Basically you need to backup everything under /usr/sap/<SID>/.../j2ee, which you can restore if you can make sure the part in the database and the filesystem are "in sync" - means e. g. no deployments/changes during the backup of both.
    > If we can use the backup of the IFS to do a restore, in the event of a disaster, why can't we use it in the case of a system copy?
Because Java clutters all information about hostname, SID, database connectivity etc. in .properties files on the filesystem and in the database. What is stored where and synchronized during startup of the engine is not really documented and is application dependent (a portal has more/different .properties files than a plain empty J2EE instance). This is also a reason why it's e. g. not that easy to just change a hostname of a Java instance.
If you do the export using sapinst in case of a system copy, it packs them together and at import time sapinst does the magic to replace all the necessary entries of hostname and sid and cluster ID etc. automatically for the new built instance.

  • System copy : As Java : Non-unicode kernel Option not available

    Dear All,
we are performing AS Java system copy to create a new system , same SID , same HOST and same Configuration except OS is upgraded.
    Susle Linux OS - 11 SP3
    As Java Nw 701
    kernel version -
    NW701 - Kernel 721_Ext - Non_unicode - 201 patch level
We have successfully completed export and now we are importing the same export in new server, now while performing taget installation we are not getting option to install NON UNICODE kernel , except it is only asking for UC Kernel 7.20/7.21.
Current version of system is non-unicode and we will like to keep it that way.
May I know is non-unicode system copy option is not available? is it removed ?
and if we want to install non-unicode then how we can perform that ?
Can we install target system using UC kernel and later just perform NON-unicode kernel upgrade, will this work?
    Has anyone faced such concern?
    Guidance will be appreciated.
    Regards,
    Bond

    Thanks for  update RB.
We have tried this method as in we stop SAP and sync file systems and perform DB/Backup restore method. This method works but unfortunately I am not able to find any SAP relevant document to support this method for so called "java" systems.
SAP only suggest to perform system copy for "java" hence we are trying via export import. Currently I am looking into options of using old master installation software.
although, can i request you if you any SAP relevant note or kba or any other in which SAP support/suggest we can perform file system copy and db restore for "Java" systems then it will be just a thing which I need to go ahead with method you suggested.
    Thanks , kindly update.

We had already checked the procedures, we are working based on the System Copy Guide: "System Copy for SAP Systems Based on SAP NetWeaver 7.0 SR3 ABAP+Java".
I had to mention that source and target systems are HP-UX, 11.23, Itanium and the DataBase is Oracle 10.2.02.
The copy was made from a Central System (ABAP + Java) to a High-Availability System (ABAP + Java), and the problem appeared when copying the Central Instance.

  • ECC6 EHP2 (ABAP+Java)  system copy using file system copy

    Hello Experts,
I have a question around system copy method for a dual stack ECC6 EHP2 system.
We are planning to take full file system backup of this entire ECC6 EHP2 dual stack system and throw it on a completely new hardware with new host name but same SID.  We are also planning to do a host renaming in instance profiles and re-building the control files in target system after we finish the file system restore.
Is this method supported in SAP ? Or we strictly have to use  SAPinst to do export and import method.  In any case our source and target platform is not going to chance as per our scenario.
Any suggestions will be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks,
    Harshal

    > Thanks for the quick response. Is their any document that says it is not supported ?  Because of no proper document that says no to do it, client want's to try it out.
For the ABAP part this is certainly feasible.
The Java part has not only issues with the secure store but also with SID and hostname. The old values are stored in many places in the database and in, depending on the applications installed, many .properties files in the filesystem. So it would be not enough to somehow regenerate the secure store but also change hostname and SID in different places that are not really all documented.

This note should be applied only when the hostname of a machine

It does not replace the SAP official system copy procedure and
MUST NOT be used for copying of an instance to another host and/or with different SID.
