System Exec use all resources system if "wait until completion" is true !

Hello,
I use the function "System Exe" since a long time to launch various executables since Labview.
The " waint until completion " boolean is true, because I have to wait the end of the external executable to continue.
Big problem: the function " System Exec " use all resources system, by waiting for the end of the external program.
Is it a bug of this function ?
In my example, "System Exec" launches only the notepad (LV 8.2 on XP)

In fact I had simplified my vi to target the problem.
I use System Exec to launch another executable, made possibly with labview, but with passage of parameter. (Ex: - " / string:init ").
In the literature Labview it was made with the method cmd / x / c start by putting twice the path of the executable.
In this method a waiting time in the recent system exec function was effectively missing.
But effectively, today, it is enough: "c:\myexe.exe" - " / string.init " to launch and to pass a parameter.
You have both reason and I thank you sincérement.

mmm well System Exec.vi simulates a DOS command window, can you run the sandbox from the cmd window using the same commands without any errors?

System service using all CPU w/XP SP1

I have a K7N420Pro and after I install XP SP1 the system service uses all available CPU cycles. If I check the task manager my CPU usage is at 100%!! has anybody else seen this?
By the way, It is the system service not the system idle process.
System specs:
K7N420Pro
Athlon XP 1900
1.5 GB Ram (3x 512 MB)
2.6 BIOS

I pulled EVERYTHING off the MB. Floppy, CD/DVD drives all the memory except one stick, I even disconnected the USB and diagnostic leds. That didn't work. Then I realized that the small sound card addon wasn't actually part of the MB even though it came with it. I powered down and pulled the CNR Sound MAX card and when I rebooted it found some additional sound hardware and the system service was back to no CPU usage. I then shut down and readded the CNR card and when I powered on the system it was still fine. I now have to reconnect all the rest of the stuff I removed and make sure it is still fine but it looks good so far.
Well, It's not fine. When I rebooted the problem was back. I will now pull everything off again and then add it back one piece at a time. :(

Now I finally know what the problem is.
I had both of the additional USB connections filled. One from the diagnostic thing and the other from the front of my case. Well I guess that the cables from my case are bad since when they are connected my problem is there but it goes away when I remove them. I can definitely live with just 4 USB ports. I only have 3 USB devices right now and if I ever get more I can just add a USB hub.

Premiere Pro CC not using all resources... 4k

I just put together a new workstation machine for editing 1D-C 4k files in Premiere Pro and After Effects.
Specs...
i7 3770 3.4
Gigabyte Z77 Mobo
32gb Corsair Vengance DDR3 1600 RAM
250gb Samsung SSD
4x 2TB Seagate 7200 HDDs in RAID 0 (Yes I know it isn't backed up, we have that part covered)
Nvidia Quadro K4000 (3gb vram)
Anyway, we transfered a project with all the media files to our RAID media drive.
It opened up very quickly and loaded all the media much faster then our old workstation.
Then I hit the spacebar (perview) and the problems started..
It won't play back smoothly at all,
AND it is only running the CPU at 10-20%, GPU 10-50%, ram at 25% and it is not really taxing the drives very hard either...
Why won't PP use all the resources at 100% like I have previously seen it do on other machines?
** The project we are trying to play is 2 layers of 4k .MOV footage in a 1080 timeline... with sharpening, Fast color corrector, and RGB curves.
** It also drops every fourth frame when playing back just one layer of 4k .mov footage in a 1080 timeline with NO Effects applied. (Much smoother, but still not using all resources)
What I am asking, is why would it be giving up so quickly? Before even taxing the resources very hard?

I too have a recent 1D-C project I'm editing. That 1D-C is something, yes? Most filmic images I've ever seen from a DSLR. But I digress.
I'm following a workflow closer to the one used by Philip Bloom and Shane Hurlbut. The Motion Jpeg files will not play well at all on your system. It's strictly a capture medium - not an editing one.
I converted all my 1D-C files to Prores 422 at 4K size using Mpeg Streamclip. Those files imported beautifully and edit well on my Retina Macbook Pro laptop. I usually set playback to 1/2 quality, ps.
I have had problems using CUDA, so I'm sticking to software mode. But I don't see any problem with being able to cut my film and finish on my computer.
Also - my sequence is a 4K sequence right in Premiere. I simply chose a clip and "made a sequence" from that. Why scale when I don't have to? I've exported to 1080p easily from the sequence.
If anyone finds this workflow less than ideal, I'm all ears. Thanks.

I am trying to use system exec vi to opens system 32 cmd.exec to do a net send over a windows nt network

Is there a way to easily send strings over a local nt network, I am trying to use the net send command in windows nt cmd.exec using the system ecec vi, if anyone has any idea how to do this or more info on using the system exec vi in labview 6i. any info would be a big help

Yes it worked fine thank you, as long as I have your attention I noticed on one of your replies to a different question that you had written a vi that sends e-mail I was wondering if you could post me some info on this or any other communication vi's. just to let you know what I am doing " I am a summer student for electronics, and I have been given labview to write a program that monitors analog and digital channels and alerts a user if any "alarms vary" I am trying to notify the user of these changes by network, email, and pager. thanks to your last answer I have the network idea working.."

System not using all avail. mem.

Hi all, did a lot of forum searching and haven't seen this topic.
I'm using PPCS5(in production Premium) While rendering, the program is not using all available memory. before I go on here is the system I am using:
Win7pro
EVGA X58FTW mobo
I7 970
6x4gig Kingston hyperX 1600 RAM
Quadro fx4000
WD 140gig Raptor sys. drive
2x1TB RAID 0 (3gig SATA) data
2x2TB RAID 0 (6gig SATA) data

In solution manager system not showing all the system in SLD

Dear Gurus,
During the installation of solution manger sysyem i selected as a Central SLD as solution manager
Later installed ECC 6.0 and EP systems selected SLD as solution manager system during the instllation.
If i login in to http://hostname:50000/sld (solution manger system) and the screen also not showing all the options also. some options missing in the tab. Wat I need to do to see all the options clearly.
It is not showing all the systems if i check in EP and ECC for SLDCHECK it is not givng any errror.
But if i login into solution manger not able to see all the system in SLD.

NCF using all resources

Hi,
I am trailing NCF on a computer to see if it is workth rolling out to the
rest of the network. I have a issue that it is using all the resources on
the computer. The computer sits at 100% with NCF using all the free
processor power.

machines and it doesn't do that.
well, it has done that in the past - but only when I've changed the IP
address a number of times with NCF running - but that was a few
versions ago and i haven't really tested it since. so, it really
should be a non-issue if you're not doing "weird" things...

Return Code value using 'starting new task' and 'wait until'

I'm having a minor issue with some return code values in my ABAP.
This is what part of it used to look like before I modified it:
With Code in version 1, the sy-subrc was not always zero, sometimes it would be 4.
That was fine, and my abap would do something based on the non-zero RC.
had a need to implement an RFC timeout, the only way I could see to do it was to use 'starting new task' etc as seen in Version 2.
However, with my changes, sy-subrc is always zero.
The ABAP runs fine but I know that sy-subrc should sometimes be 4, even when it returns within the allotted 60 seconds.
Maybe I've coded it incorrectly.
Can someone point me in the right direction?

Why is mail so slow and uses all of system resources?

I want to use Mail on my Macbook Air 2010. I use it on my iPhone with no problems at all. I have several gmail accounts and me.com accounts. I have tried even just using only my main account in Mail. I am now using a system resource monitor and can see that Mail takes up 100% of resources while appearing to do nothing. When I click on Sent or Drafts, it often shows nothing when I know that there should be stuff there. I have tried "rebuild" which did not seem to do anything. Also, it takes forever to quit.
I cannot understand why this program does not work for me. I have not done anything out the ordinary that I am aware of. Does it not work well with gmail accounts? If so, why does the iPhone version handle gmail so well?
I will try that, just using my iCloud account only. I just want to make sure that when I mail a link from safari or a photo from iPhoto, that it actually goes out and goes in a reasonable amount of time.
Mail for me is a system resource hog. I am afraid to open it.

I stopped all processes and deleted all accounts and started over with the gmail account. This time, I chose the option to not store anything locally. It warned me that I would not be able to read email offline. When I clicked "save" from preferences, it froze for about an hour with CPU maxed out. I am going to force quit mail, delete the account again and just go with my fresh iCloud account. I can set my gmail account to forward messages and then I can freely delete them from the iCloud account knowing that they are still there in gmail. I guess this will work ok. I just won't be able to send out from my gmail account from Mail which will confuse some recipients and then lead to people sending mail to the wrong account.
I wish there was an option in Mail to "act like iOS Mail." I believe that would solve my problem.

Can the G500 Speaker system be used for Mac systems?

I have the Creative G500 speaker system 5.1 and would like to know if it can be hooked up to my mac? I understand I will not be able to use the pc card but can the speaker system itself be hooked up to the Mac?

Sorry I did not get back online quick enough...but the passwords are the same.
For some reason, after my first cold boot, I was still prompted for the hard disk passwords. I powered down again and when I powered back up, it signed me on all the way through. So it was just a hiccup.
All is good now and I'm very happy!

Every time I go to use Firefox, I have to wait until I can do anything

If I'm not at the computer, or doing something in a different window, then go to another window, as soon as the mouse hits the page, I get the spinning ball, and must wait 20 secs to a minute, until it will refresh the page, or I can then do anything. This is very aggravating & getting old, as it's occurred in 17, 18, 19, and now in the Beta 20. All my plug ins are up to date, and I keep hoping each new update will end this issue.

How does System Exec VI identify Standard Error within cmd code?

I am using the System Exec VI to control a USB to serial adaptor program header, I have sucessfully written a .BAT file to call the CMD commands (the .exe I am running uses "-option" commands and the help file reccomends to do so) and it functions perfectly. My only issue is identifing errors. The "Standard Error Out" on the System Exec VI never outputs anything. Yes the wait until completion is TRUE and my standard output functions fine. I am curious as to how the System Exec VI identifies errors from the command prompt and why my errors are not showing up. I am currently using multiple match pattern string functions to identify the possible errors from my standar output for the time being but I would like to simplfy my code a bit and clean it up if at all possible. Not to mention there are most likely several other errors that could occur that I may have not identified. Some examples of stanadrd output errors i can get include include:

How can I run different commands in the same system exec window?

I want to open a window (cygwin) on my Xp machine and sent commands within that window. I then have to monitor what the responses are coming back into the window that was launched. Any ideas on how to do this? I have been playing with the system exec VI but can't seem to get it to do what I want. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks - Troy

Have you tried setting the wait until completion to true on the System Exec VI? If so, the LabVIEW documentation claims that the parameter "standard output returns information from the program you called if wait until completion is TRUE. If wait until completion is FALSE, System Exec returns an empty string."
Could this be the answer to the problem of getting the data returned?

Creating a delay in labview until a c program completes in system exec.vi without using "wait until completeion"

I want to run two related C programs. The second one reads a text file that the first created. So I need to wait until the first is completed.
I use "system exec.vi" and I know I can set "wait until completeion" to true, but this way I won't see the screen and the C program announcments. Someone has an idea?

my idea: just wait for the text file created by the first C program. Check for the presence of this file (maybe using 'list directory') or check for the size of this file...
