System.log contains multiple occurrences of "kernel[0]: disk1s9: ioctl('"

In investigating some possibly unrelated issues, I noticed that my system.log contains multiple instances of the following item, sometimes many of them quite close together:
Dec 14 13:09:17 Walkers-G4 kernel[0]: disk1s9: ioctl('
I've determined that disk1s9 is my boot drive. This entry looks like there ought to be something after "ioctl('", but there isn't.
At any rate, these don't look normal to me. Should be I be concerned?

There were no responses, and this article is old, so I'm marking it as "solved" so as to no clog up my "questions" queries. Sigh.

  • System.log filling up with: mbp kernel[0]: dp events: 0x04

    Dec 21 17:09:52 mbp kernel[0]: dp events: 0x04
This line seems to repeat 5 or 6 times per minute, filling system.log.
Looks like it started Dec 19th. I don't see any obvious unusual thing I did at that time.
    Any ideas?
    Thanks, jeff

Although Apple has not fixed this yet, I have learned some interesting things. While on the phone with Apple, they had me run a Data Capture program to collect info about my system to send back to them.
While running the application, I had Console open so I could look at the system log. To my surprise, after running this application, the repeating dp events: 0x04 completely stopped and the mouse cursor behaved normally. The mouse continued to behave normally until I put the computer to sleep and woke it up again.
    In summary:
    1) The dp events: 0x04 messages are present when the mouse skips and not present when it doesn't. This seems like proof that the muliple writes to the system log are what make the cursor skip.
    2) Running Capture Data.app (from the Apple tech) runs a handful of scripts that not only capture data, but also kills the dp events for some reason.
I have verified this four different times and reported my findings to the Apple tech I was speaking to.
Can anyone else who receive the data capture program from Apple give this a shot? Just have Console open and look at your system log before, during, and after running the program. Perhaps you'll see as I did that the dp events go away and your mouse works right (at least until sleep).

    Hello,
My system log is filled with this message that occurs periodically. The server seems to work okay, but I could use your guidance on what it might be?

I've noticed the same thing on my mac!
Feb 24 03:15:03 RooneysDualG5 cp: error processing extended attributes: Operation not permitted.
Judging from the time it occurs everyday (if I leave it on all night) I believe it is the system scheduled maintenance that is generating the error (apple set our systems to clean house at this default time).
Unfortunately, that is the extent of my knowledge, and I too would like to resolve this issue because I'm worried that something is preventing the system from EVER doing it's maintenance, now whether that error means nothing is getting done, or only one process is stopped up, I don't know!
I would think regular maintenance would be especially critical for your mail server, so I hope someone answers us quick!

  • Looking for a keyword using like query which could contain multiple occurrence in the same column

I am facing an issue. A bunch of my frontend JSP code has been stored in few tables of my database (65 rows in a table), which I have identified using few like queries. Now I want to update a Href link which is present in all these queries. But since these column entries are very long (50-60 lines long) and it is possible that a few rows may the link (which is to be replaced), multiple times,  I am not sure that if a simple update query using a single like will work for it or not?
    Any suggestion/ideas are welcome.

Yes; whenever you have a problem, please post a little sample data (CREATE TABLE and INSERT statements, relevant columns only), so that the people who want to help you can re-create the problem and test their ideas.
Also post the results you want from that data, and an explanation of how you get those results from that data, with specific examples.
Simplify the problem as much as possible.  For example, if your strings are sometimes up to 4000 characters long, you don't have to post any data that's nearly that long.  You can probably show what you want with strings that are 80 characters long.
Always say which version of Oracle you're using (for example, 11.2.0.2.0).
    See the forum FAQ: https://forums.oracle.com/message/9362002#9362002
    This statement:
    UPDATE table_x
SET str  = REPLACE ( str
                       , old_link
                       , new_link
    WHERE   str  LIKE  '%' || old_link || '%'
will change all occurrences of old_link to new_link.  It will only change the rows where old_link occurs, but, aside from that, it doesn't matter how many times old_link occurs in str:  if it appears 2 times in the same str, then both occurrences will be changed to new_link.
Watch out for the "mother is in chemotherapy" problem.  If old_link is 'bar.com', the statement above will change 'fubar.com'.  You may need REGEXP_REPLACE and/or REGEXP_LIKE if you need to consider what (if anything) comes immediately before 'bar.com' when deciding whether or not to change it.

  • EADDRINUSE in system.log

I'm getting the following error in my system.log file every 30 seconds:
    kernel[0]: tcp_connect: inp=6996a68 err=EADDRINUSE
The only thing different with each entry is inp=<some number> has a different number every 30 seconds. I have found very little information regarding this error and was wondering if anyone would be able to tell me how I might go about tracking down what application is generating this error message. I'm assuming whatever app it is, it's trying to use a port that's already allocated to another app.

    Hello
Please implement the latest kernel for your release. See note #19466. The error will not occur with the latest kernel patch.

    Hello,
I have a RV325 Router. Entries in the System Log are mysterious to me and all my search results and reading are not relevant.
The Event-Type is - "Kernel", and the Message is "kernel: wrong ip[0],not_list[0]"
The Log entries occur every few minutes.
Does anyone know what this log entry signifies?
Also, does anyone know how to get an answer to any question from Cisco?
    Thanks,

    Hello
yes, there are several existing discussions about same syslog message, like here, here or here, but neither of discussions points to solution.
If you device is still under warranty I would suggest you to open service request to Cisco Small Business Support Center to make this issue fixed permanently.

    Hi, Mark.
I'm not an Apache guru, but you may have two different issues here, depending on when the
    kernel[0]: file: table is full
message is time-stamped relative to when you issue the
    sudo apachectl start command.
    1. Looking at the results of this Google search and some others tends to indicate that common causes for httpd could not be started are errors in the /etc/httpd/httpd.conf file.
You might also want to take a look at some of these other Discussions threads and in these "Networking and the Web" Discussion threads.

  • System.log, kernel[0]: file: table is full

After updating to Mac OS X 10.4.6, apache no longer runs on my PowerBook G4. I run apache for local web work and it has been running fine for a long time.
When I run do sudo apachectl start:
    sudo apachectl start
/usr/local/bin/apachectl start: httpd could not be started
it cannot be started and /var/log/system.log shows:
    kernel[0]: file: table is full
All I could find after searching the Internet via Google, Google Groups, Apple Knowledge Base, etc. are these reasons:
    * Not enough sufficient free contiguous disk space on the volume. Need to optimize hard drive.
    * Bad node on the hard drive.
    * Defective hard drive.
I ran Disk Utility - Repair Permission and Repair Disk and both found no errors or problem. There were a few file permissions corrected, but that is all.
I also booted in to Mac OS X Safe Mode (CMD+S) and ran /sbin/fsck -yf and no errors were found/reported.
Since Mac OS X lacks a disk optimizer, I wondered where I could get a disk optimizer and whether optimize the volume would even correct this error.
Any free utilities to optimize the HFS+ volume in Mac OS X 10.4.6?
Apple's Support Knowledge Base states to either optimize the volume or do an Archive and Install. I cannot do an Archive and Install method due to my setup (MySQL, Apache, etc.).

  • Numerous system log errors such as: "kernel[0]: ... dyld_shared_cache_x86_64': owned by uid=89 instead of 0" ... what is the underlying problem here?

    My system.log shows numerous errors such as: "kernel[0]: ... dyld_shared_cache_x86_64': owned by uid=89 instead of 0" ...
What is the underlying problem here?

Are you trying to install anything by any chance??
update_dyld_shared_cache ensures that dyld's shared cache is up-to-date. This tool is normally only run by Apple's Installer and Software Update, as they are the only official ways for OS dylibs to be updated. But if for some reason you used another mechanism to alter an OS dylib, you should manually run update_dyld_shared_cache.

  • Multiple nk_bcm53115_sync_speeds_phy_to_mac() messages in RV-320 system log

    Hi!
Any ideas/suggestions regarding why do I constantly get these messages in pairs in RV-320 system log?:
    2015-01-22, 11:52:02 Kernel kernel: nk_bcm53115_sync_speeds_phy_to_mac(): sport[5], speed[1], duplex[2]
    2015-01-22, 11:52:02 Kernel kernel: nk_bcm53115_sync_speeds_phy_to_mac(): sport[5], speed[1], duplex[1]
Are they just informational or should I be worried about them?
    Thanks very much,
    Federico

What about opposite side of that link? How it is configured? is set to manual speed/duplex? or automatic? have you tried to change cable on that connection (can cause negotiation issues)?
if negotiated speed is set to 1000Gbps, have you tried to change it to 100Mbps if issue dissapeared (this can be again caused by wrong/long cable, noisy environment near cable)?
If opposite side is manageable, are you able to see similar messages related to speed/duplex changes in system log?

    kernel Debug 2.0.38 m378d97c0 0

What is the frequency of that message in your syslog?
Nine times in the past 24 hours. But oddly enough, I'm now seeing debug in other messages as well as well:

    kernel Debug System Wake
I recently installed TTP 4.6.1, which is the only thing I can think of that might be related, though why it would put the kernel into debug mode is beyond me. I'll have to do some more research. Thanks.

  • System.log file are large, and cause a kernel panic when deleting

    Hello everyone,
I am trying to solve a dillema.  I discovered that over 60GB of my 120GB SSD drive are taken up by system.log files.  All 3 are around 20GB.  I left my laptop running so none of them are the current one.  They are system.log.0, system.log.3 and system.log.4.  I have tried several ways to delete them:
    Using Disksweeper
At a terminal prompt using sudo rm
At a terminal prompt using sudo su - (to get root access) and then rm -f ....
Rebooting the system in single user mode, mounting the drive and then attempting to delete them
Each time I do, the system reboots with a kernel panic.  I have not looked at the panic log yet, but can post that if you need to.
I did look at the end of the current log file to discover there were some issues with programs, and I have fixed it so that these size log files "shouldn't" be generated anymore.
Looking for advice as to how to delete these files!  This is driving me nuts.  It shouldn't be this hard.
Thanks for any help or insight you can give.

OK, I actually was able to solve this myself.  My problem was that ther kernel panic was caused by the journaling.  So here is what I had to do:
I temporarily disabled journaling, see here: http://forums.macrumors.com/showthread.php?t=373067
Then I was able to delete the files by starting a terminal session and using sudo rm to delete the files.
Re-enabled journaling (I don't know if it is needed, but it was on before).
Hope this can help someone else in the future.

  • Save/Open dialog crashes on opening a folder which contains multiple app. alias

    Hi:
This is my first post in Apple forum, I've been searching some pages here, obviously I'm not the only one having this (or similar) problem but all existing threads are suggesting "Safe Mode" or "Disk Util" these useless things and never worked for me.
I believe this is a bug from os x / Finder, not sure if this has been filed or not against Apple bug db.
    The problem:
Save/Open dialog hangs up when loading / opening an existing folder which contains multiple application alias
    How to reproduce:
    1) Use any browser (I use Firefox and Chrome) to open a page and  print the page / or download something, or print something as PDF
    2) When Save dialog ( some people call it file picker or location selector, whatever) pops up, select a folder which contains multiple application alias
    3) Dialog hangs up, and the application icon on those  alias will not be loaded successfully. Need to Force Quit the browser.
    4) Issue cannot be reproduced always, but frequently enough if you have many application alias and files / subfolders in the target folder
    5) By removing all the application alias, can workaround the issue.
    6) The icons of application on those alias are loaded slowly in a successful loading (seems there are some performance issues)
    7) This issue has not been observed before upgrading to Mavericks
    Env:
    27 inch iMac Late 2012, 2.9GHz i5, 8G DDR3, NVIDIA GTX660M 512M, OS X 10.9.1
Please anybody (not sure if Apple monitors this community) who knows details in regards to this, share some info. (or maybe there already is a fix ? ) .
    Thanks.
    Regards,
    Lyle.

Launch the Console application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.

I am having a similar issue, but in my situation, my users cannot log in.  All of my users are network users on Mini's.  I am running 10.6.8 on my server.  I have created users before with no issues, but have not done so in months.  When I try to log the new user in, I get the following error:
xpchelper: Could not get path of user account (uid:1029) home directory:/Network/Servers/server.xxx.net/Volumes/Data/Users/username; error; The operation couldn't be completed. No such file or directory. Using home directory.
CFPreferences: user home directory at file://localhost/Network/Servers/server.xxx.net/Volumes/Data/Users/username/ is currently unavailable. User domains will be volatile.
    Authorizationhost: error |-[homedirmounter mount NetworkHomeWithURL: attributes: dirPath: username:]|PremountHomeDirectoryWithAuthentication (url=AFP://server.xxx.net/Users/homedir= /Network/Servers/server.xxx.net/Volumes/Data/Users/username, name=username) returned 5.
I have no idea of what to do.  I have verified that the user looks the same as my other users in WGM. The user's folder was created on the server.  The user has access to the folder.  I'm not sure what else could be wrong here.
