System preference button?
When I goto system preferences.. my print and fax button is all messed up. It's like a random image of a light switch, with half the word print and fax chopped off. How can i restore this icon? thanks
Quit System Preferences if it is open, and choose Go to Folder from the Finder's Go menu. Enter ~/Library/Caches/ as the folder's location, throw away the item named com.apple.preferencepanes.cache inside, and then restart System Preferences.

After Mavericks update system preferences buttons quit working. Any help?
Affects all panes. Click a button, like "Options" and nothing happens.
Here is the error log report that comes up when I click a button:

I am trying to fill in a PDF form online- there should be a submit button but it isn't showing. My partner has an identical Mac and can see the button when he opens the same page- what do I change in my systen system preferences to resolve this?
You and your partner might have different browsers, different versions of the same browser, or most likely a fervent version of the PDF plug-in.
See if just clicking on the Enter key sends the form in. -
After upgrading to Mountain Lion I am not able to access "security and privacy" button under "system preferences". I like to activate "find my mac" but cannot access privacy setting after upgrade. Kindly advice.

Why is the "done" button inactive when I try to downgrade my iCloud storage plan to 5GB free? Doesn't work from iOS device or macBook system preferences. I didn't sign up for a $40 plan.
I found the solution .,,,
1) click on your current plan and press done your payment details will appear .
2) the first section is your plan and there is a botton "change" click on it
3) it will take you back to the upgrade options
4) press on the downgrade options
5) choose the 5 GB and the done botton will be enabled
6) click on it you'll back to the step number 2 , here read carefully you'll see that your changes will take effect after the current plan expired with the date. -
when i go onto system preferences the icloud button isnt there how do i get it there so i can setup my mac on find my iphone
You have to have 10.7.2 to have the iCloud icon appear.
You need to upgrade to Lion, via download from the app store, $29 (US). -
Can't get MAC to shut down and start up via the schedule button in system preferences energy saver. Is there another way?
Try this to start:
Repair the Hard Drive and Permissions
Boot from your Leopard Installer disc. After the installer loads select your language and click on the Continue button. When the menu bar appears select Disk Utility from the Utilities menu. After DU loads select your hard drive entry (mfgr.'s ID and drive size) from the the left side list. In the DU status area you will see an entry for the S.M.A.R.T. status of the hard drive. If it does not say "Verified" then the hard drive is failing or failed. (SMART status is not reported on external Firewire or USB drives.) If the drive is "Verified" then select your OS X volume from the list on the left (sub-entry below the drive entry,) click on the First Aid tab, then click on the Repair Disk button. If DU reports any errors that have been fixed, then re-run Repair Disk until no errors are reported. If no errors are reported click on the Repair Permissions button. Wait until the operation completes, then quit DU and return to the installer.
If DU reports errors it cannot fix, then you will need Disk Warrior and/or Tech Tool Pro to repair the drive. If you don't have either of them or if neither of them can fix the drive, then you will need to reformat the drive and reinstall OS X. -
In my system preferences, my sharing folder will not let me access it. All my photo booth share button is grayed out. One more thing, My photoshop will not let me import any photographs. I believe this all has to do with this. Any way to fix this issue?
The iTunes Store has no phone support and never has. Contacting them has always been via web form. Go here:
http://www.apple.com/support/itunes/contact/
and follow the instructions to report the issue to the iTunes Store.

The Mouse window in my System Preferences doesn't give me the option to assign the buttons
My mouse has suddenly decided over the weekend to assign the middle button to expose. It's bloody annoying because it's far too sensitive and every time I try to left click it now shows me all the open windows. I had turned the middle button off when I got the iMac a year ago because I found it far too sensitive for my fat fingers but it's suddenly started doing it again. While that in itself isn't a huge issue, what is a problem is that when I go in to System Preferences - Mouse the usual diagram with scrolling options that allows you to assign and change the assignations of the buttons isn't there. The upshot is I can't turn the damned thing off.
Any ideas? The only times I've seen this happen is when other drivers are installed that conflict with Apples. USB overdrive is one of those but there are several.
Once those third party drivers are uninstalled the Apple prefpane normally comes back.

Captfred -
I just went from OS 10.6 to 10.8. The arrow button is gone from the scrollbar. I do not see the option in "Systems Preference" any more. Am I missing something. If it is gone, is Apple going to bring it back?
John R M wrote:
Thank you. I believe Apple shoud give you the option as to whether or not you may want to use the arrows.
Apple give users what they want?
Good luck there, the head of iOS Scott Forstall was canned, I suspect this was his favorite picture.
However I bring salvation and sanity, the option to go back to the wonderous Snow Kitty.

Can't click on buttons in System Preferences
Hi,
Whenever I go into System Preferences, I can't click on any buttons that open up a new window. I can unlock the pane, but I can't click on anything. The System Preferences window just flashes.
I have a video demonstration:
https://www.dropbox.com/s/vwj5297m61m1cyi/System%20Preferences%20-%20Blurred.mp4I finally solved it by using the Terminal commands here:
https://discussions.apple.com/message/23939515#23939515
The commands were:
defaults write NSGlobalDomain NSUseLeopardWindowValues YES
defaults write com.apple.Safari NSUseLeopardWindowValues NO

System Preferences Toolbar and Toolbar Button have disappeared
My Systems Preferences toolbar disappeared, and so did the small button in the upper right that toggled the toolbar off and on. Any ideas on how to fix this without reinstalling OS X?
I do not know when the toolbar disappeared (I don't change preferences often), and I do not know if any specific actions or software installations/upgrades caused the problem.iTBotB,
Welcome to Apple Discussions.
Quit System Preferences (if it's running) and trash the following file: Macintosh HD/Users/username/Library/Caches/com.apple.preferencepanes.cache
Then launch System Preferences again and check for functionality.
There is no toolbar button on the System Preferences window. My toolbar only has the following selections: ←/→, "Show All," and a "Search" field.

I am having trouble setting up icloud on MAC. In system preference it is listed as mobile me, it asks for member name and password. It also has a learn more button under "try mobileme for free". I am not getting anywhere
It's evident that you are using Snow Leopard or earlier (or very early Lion) since you have the now obsolete MobileMe preference pane.
The minimum requirement for iCloud is Lion 10.7.5 (Mountain Lion preferred): the iCloud Preference Pane does not appear on earlier systems - the MobileMe pane appears on Lion and earlier but is non non-functional - you cannot now open or access a MobileMe account.
To make use of iCloud you will have to upgrade your Mac to Lion or Mavericks, provided it meets the requirements.
The requirements for Lion are:
Mac computer with an Intel Core 2 Duo, Core i3, Core i5, Core i7, or Xeon processor
2GB of memory
OS X v10.6.6 or later (v10.6.8 recommended)
7GB of available space
Lion is available in the Online Apple Store ($19.99). Mountain Lion (10.8.x) is also available there at the same price but there seems little point as the system requirements are the same for Mavericks (10.9.x) - which is free - unless you need to run specific software which will run on Mountain Lion only.
The requirements for Mountain Lion and Mavericks are:
OS X v10.6.8 or later
2GB of memory
8GB of available space
and the supported models are:
iMac (Mid 2007 or newer)
MacBook (Late 2008 Aluminum, or Early 2009 or newer)
MacBook Pro (Mid/Late 2007 or newer)
Xserve (Early 2009)
MacBook Air (Late 2008 or newer)
Mac mini (Early 2009 or newer)
Mac Pro (Early 2008 or newer)
It is available from the Mac App Store (in Applications).
You should be aware that PPC programs (such as AppleWorks) will not run on Lion or above; and some other applications may not be compatible - there is a useful compatibility checklist at http://roaringapps.com/apps:table
If you are running Leopard on an Intel Mac you will have to upgrade to Snow Leopard to access the Mac App Store - it's available in the online Apple Store. However if you have a PPC Mac you cannot run Snow Leopard and cannot proceed further. -
The instructions say "Go to Mail Preferences."
I cannot find any place called "Mail Preferences". I have tried looking under both "Mail" and "System Preferences" and there is nothing there entitled "Mail Preferences". Under "Preferences" there is no subheading as described in the iCloud instructions. Where is that "Mail Preferences" button located?Open Mail, go to the 'Mail' menu, select Preferences.
