System sounds over USB audio out

I have a white Macbook hooked up to my JVC receiver through USB (It uses the venerable Burr-Brown chipset, so you can hook it straight up to a USB port), through a USB hub.
All is well, and my iTunes list plays through the receiver's speakers just fine, as do DVDs, CDs and whatnot.
However, the system's own sound (the Ping of received mail, or the gentle swoosh of the trash can emptying) do not. They continue to play over the laptop's own 2 speakers.
In the Audio pane in System Preferences, everything is set correctly. The selected output device is the receiver, in the sound effects tab in the same pane I can set the receiver as the selected output device, but system sounds keep playing through the internal speakers.

I appreciate the answer, but if you read my question thoroughly you will notice this: "In sound settings, both Input and Output are set to the M-Track"
Most audio routes properly.  It is strictly system notifications (New emails, File transfer completed, etc) that routes to the internal audio.

  • How do I route system sounds to USB audio?

I own An M-Track USB audio interface.  Music, Videos, and Applications in general all route audio to this device properly.  In sound settings, both Input and Output are set to the M-Track.  The problem is that system sounds specifically still route to the built in speakers.  This is a problem since a lot of my work is done overnight while my wife is sleeping.  These random sounds wake her up.  Please help me figure out how to fix this.

  • Micro usb audio out feature addition request

so i had a pair on micro usb headphones out and i thought it would work on my stream 7, because of the buzzing problem. However it doesnt work and windows dosnt seem to read it either. Any way for a bios update for the stream 7 so micro usb audio out will work, and any hp prgram for them to make, so i can use headphones.
    This question was solved.

I know of no device that has OTG "Built in".. so with that said...Micro USB headphones are in more of a testing phase, and only supported by a select few phones/tablets. The device itself has to be "usb headphone aware" because normaly none of these devices default to host mode (ie none of them react to usb connections in the same way a PC/laptop does).
USB phones have been around for a while, and if MicroUSB headphones have a fall back that allows it to be detected as a sound device by any usb host port then using an OTG cable (You will probably need an adapter to convert the Type A connection back to Micro B) it should work fine on the Stream 7. However my understanding is microusb headphones are being designed around a more direct support from mobile devices, much like MHL offered HDMI over usb.

  • No System Sound when using Digital Out. What the?!

Hmmm. I've searched and read many of the posts regarding sound problems on the mac mini but none experiencing what i think(?) is my problem. That being that when I use a toslink to connect my mac mini to my an external 5.1 amp the following is disabled:
    - Volume control in menu bar disabled (greyed out)
    - Apple Remote no longer controls volume
    - DVD Player volume does nothing
    - System Sound Preferences show 'Digital Out' but no options
Can someone confirm that these should still be adjustable? I can't believe that the now I have to use my stereo remote to control my Mac ?! Kind of ruins the 'Mac as a home theatre' experience. Unless I can find a solurion I guess it's back to analogue for me :o(
    Please help!
    Wayne.
Mac Mini, iBook, Flat Panel Lamp iMac   Mac OS X (10.4.7)

I can't believe it! I'm not an audiophile I just wanted to have the clearest quality sound, so for Apple to allow fibre optic connection but disable the ability to change volume just flat out *****. There should at least be the option to treat the connection as stereo. Why should I have to switch back and forward to an analogue cable if i want to use the front row remote? Not very well thought out Apple!
Thanks for the Remote Buddy suggestion will look in to it.
Anyone else got any ideas for a work around??

  • How to prevent Mac Pro to select USB audio out instead of optical audio out?

I have the following problem: Usually I use the optical audio output of my Mac Pro, but every time I reboot the system, Mac OS X changes the audio output to an usb audio device I've attached to use it with Boot Camp. Is it possible to prevent Mac OS X from changing the audio output automatically every time I start my system?

I have no problems with the audio out (the jack on the back) on my Mac Pro, though I'm not using a high-end stereo and I'm in an office environment so I may not hear subtle noise. If you haven't tried a different cable, you might try that. If your stereo supports it, you can also try the optical output.
As far as it not playing at all, make sure the Output setting in the Sound system preference is set to "line out" (or digital out if you're using the optical jack).

  • No Sound from USB Audio

I have a feeling this is a stupid mistake but I can't for the life of me figure out how to fix it. I had a fresh install of arch and everything worked fine, and speaker-test played fine. I installed KDE and audio still worked, but it kept giving notifications on startup like, "USB audio device has been removed", when the USB headset was still plugged in. Every once in a while I'd be stuck without sound but it would fix itself after removing and reinserting the USB audio thing. Eventually it started up with no audio; Each time the audio device is removed KDE said, "Would you like this to be removed from the device list", and this time I clicked "No" and "don't show me again". I can't figure out how to revert to "show me again". At time of writing with my USB audio plugged in, in the KDE Phonon audio system settings manager, it lists five greyed out USB headphone devices, and one colored one. I have a feeling that's the problem...
If I start up VLC media player, for example, I can go into that program's audio device manager and select USB audio, and everything plays fine! When it plays to the default device though, no sound comes out of my headset, so I can't get audio out of most applications.
    The module is loaded:
    lsmod | grep snd_usb_audio
    > snd_usb_audio         112633  3
I've tried the things recommended on the following thread and on the wiki, but neither have worked:
    http://archlinux.me/w0ng/2012/07/06/als … b-headset/
    https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Ad … ound_cards
(neither the manual activation or the automatic script)
Oh, and looking at the problem on this page on the forum: I've changed the order of the devices and this hasn't helped.
Any ideas on what's wrong, or how to remove all the dead devices it lists?

to remove the other devices you have to disable them. It could be done from that window but you don't have the tab. So try installing pavucontrol and disable the other cards.
And you have to select in asound conf to use your usb card on boot. Use the script from the wiki for that.

  • USB audio out not getting to DAC

Just set up my Macbook late 2007 OS 10.7.5 to a Denon DA-300USB DAC.
I'm successfully playing files out of JRiver Media Center software via Mac's digital audio out through an optical audio cable. But optical audio has limitations on bitrate, only to 24-bit/96khz.
I want to use higher rates and have some higher res files. The DA-300USB can process up to 24/192 and DSD files using USB.
When I connect the DAC using USB and power on the DAC, the sound preference pane adds the option "Audio Out High Speed USB," which is what I select. This indicates the computer is seeing the DAC.
But when I play a file, the DAC display reads "unlock," meaning it's not receiving audio. And the sound plays through the internal speakers, Ugh!
Denon says no driver is needed for this device -- indeed the computer does detect a USB audio connection when the DAC is on.
    Is there something I'm missing?

According to Crutchfield, this DAC can only process ALAC up to 96 kHz.  Can you get lower res files to play using the USB connection?

  • No sound from rear audio out port?

    Hey guys.
I am trying to troubleshoot a sound issue with a Vista Home Basic machine.
I can't really give you all the MOBO specs etc because I am not currently in front of the machine. I can however confirm that it is using a Realtek chipset and is configured using the Realtek Sound Manager software.
I am really just wanting to use basic sound (i.e. just speaker, not 5., 7. etc).
I am trying to make use of an old stereo system by using a 3.5mm aux jack to dual RCA (white and red) plugs.
I can get sound when I plug the aux jack into the front earphones port but I cannot get sound when I try and use the analogue audio out (lime green) port at the rear of the machine. Vista states that it is working correctly and has a tick next to the speakers but no sound is produced by the speakers.
The MOBO has the following available audio connectors:
Analogue = Mic in (Pink) Audio in (light blue) Audio out (lime green)
Centre Speaker (Orange) Rear Surround (Black) Mid Surround (Grey)
    Digital = x SPDIF
You may ask at this point, why not just use the front headphones jack? Well, the problem is that it seems to be very sensiti've in that Vista keeps reporting that the jack is cycling between a connected and disconnected state.
I also cannot use the SPDIF, as the old stereo only supports aux left and right RCA.
Also, when I try and get one of the rear ports to work, I have made sure that nothing is connected to the sound ports at the front as I know that this can cause problems.
When I plug in the 3.5mm jack into the green port, the Realtek sound manager kicks in and says that "a jack as been connected". I then confirm that I have infact connected the jack to the rear audio out port. I then follow the steps in the wizard but am not able to get sound.
I made sure that I used the most basic settings (i.e. speakers and not 5. etc).
I even tried the grey, black and orange ports (even though I know they are used for surround sound setups) and still no luck.
One interesting setting I did notice was that in Winamp, I had to select the "allow mono speaker" setting to have it play sound through the front headphones port.
However, when I was configuring the rear green port in the Realtex Sound Manager software, there was no mono option. There was only stereo, 5., 7. and some quad....... thing.
Any ideas guys on how to get the rear green port working?
I am wondering if it has something to with a connector on the MOBO. But as I said, Vista and Realtek manager seem to report that all is well.
    My thanks in advance.

  • USB audio out of phase

I'm having a strange problem with the USB audio output of my PowerBook. The left and right channels are out of phase, both on my USB speakers and my USB headset. The analog output from the headphone jack is fine.
The problem seems to have arisen some time around my 10.4.9 or 10.4.10 upgrade, although I can't be sure that it's related. It's still happening in 10.4.11. I suspected something strange when Skype stopped working with my headset, but it took me a lot of thinking and a tone generator to determine what the problem was. Now I'm just about positive that all USB audio output is phase reversed between left and right.
Has anyone heard of this? I couldn't find anything in the forums. Thanks for any help you can provide.

You may need to verify the Hd & Repair from another volume, HD, Mac, or Install CD/DVD if necessary.
Then Repair Permissions... trouble is if you don't do this step before & after every update, you can't be assured of every file in the update/upgrade being replaced/updated, it may require reapplying a big Combo update afterwards, or even an Archive & Install after everything is fixed otherwise, personally, I use Applejack...
    http://www.versiontracker.com/dyn/moreinfo/macosx/19596
After installing, reboot holding down CMD+s, then when the prompt shows, type in...
    applejack AUTO
Then let it do all 5 of it's things.
At least it'll eliminate some questions if it doesn't fix it.
The 5 things it does are...
    Correct any Disk problems.
    Repair Permissions.
    Clear out Cache Files.
    Repair/check several plist files.
Dump the VM files for a fresh start.

  • Delayed system sounds and no audio in web browser or itunes

    HP Envy 14 B4B15UA#ABA Windows 7
No changes to the system recently (that I'm aware of).  Suddenly I have no sound in iTunes or Chrome.  The volume equalizer doesn't show anything when sounds should be playing, and iTunes doesn't even try to play.  Also, system sounds are on about a seven second delay.  When I try to configure my speakers, I get an error that says "failed to play test tone", but then it plays several seconds later.  System "clicks" and error tones are also delayed.
I have tried searching for audio driver updates (IDT High Definition Audio CODEC), but it is current.  I have tried plugging headphones in, no dice.  I have restarted several times, and installed windows updates.  I have restored system defaults in case I accidentally changed something.  I even went into the godforsaken Beats controller to see if something was wonky there.  Nothing.  I have no idea why this is happening.  Please help.

    Hey thatpurpleone,
I see that you're not getting any sound from the speakers.
Follow this Document even though you mention there wasn't nothing that changed with the system.

  • USB Audio Out?

I'm shooting a music video and would like to use my Macbook Pro as the music source. The location we're shooting at can take a USB audio in to their board. Is there a way I can do this?

If their USB interface uses CoreAudio then it's plug-and-play - it should just appear as an output route. If it doesn't, you will need a driver, and this may or may not be available for Macs.

  • Usb audio out from airport express

    Hi,
If I want to put a DAC with USB input between Airport Express and my stereo, will I be able to do so?  I'm thinking about using the NuForce Icon-2 DAC.  So Itunes>>Airport Express>>NuForce DAC>>stereo receiver.
    Thanks in advance,
    Dave

    Sorry, but no.
You will have to use the optical audio output on the AirPort Express if you want a digital out.
The USB port will only support a compatible printer.

  • Surround Sound/multi-channel audio out

My brother has a set of 5.1 "surround sound" logitech computer speakers that we hoped to plug into the mac... but they seem to require 3 jacks... not the single (2 channel) jack out that the powerbook offers.
    Anyone have a workaround?
    keith

Ok so i order to help anyone who is interested.
The only ironic solution to this problem i found was to use a plugin called xto7 to convert the xml to the old fcp7 format.
i then imported this into premiere pro.
this was then able to export an OMF that when imported into logic 10 that was using the correct 6ch mono setting as separate tracks.
Insane but it works until Apple fixes the incorrect meta data import in FCPX that sets the xml export to the default import that is always surround.
this is the only way i was able to send stems with all the edit points and fades for the sound editor.
If you don't have premiere lying around you maybe able to do it with fcp7 too we just didn't have it in this studio.
Fingers crossed Apple fixes the fcpx xml export.

  • Scratchy sound over BT audio

I have been using BT audio in my Ford Fiesta with three phones (Sony Ericsson and IPhones) without any issues.  The X3-02 sound through BT is absolutely horrid. No low frequencies at all. In fact the sound through the inbuilt speaker is better.  I have rebooted the phone and checked the settings, but no joy. Has Nokia never made a phone before?
    Anyone else with this problem?

It might be that your sound card isn't capable of handling the load of the game and iTunes together. Do you have another sound card that you can try?

  • Kanex MIni DisplayPort+USB Audio to HDMI Adapter --NO SOUND

    Hi,
I just purchased a Kanex Mini DisplayPort+USB Audio to HDMI Adapter for my new Samsung flat screen so I could watch netflix movies. The guy at Tekserve (NYC based authorized dealer) said it's really cool b/c it's audio and video all in one. Two cables are attached to a small box on one side and on the other side of the box is for the HDMI cable which goes to the TV (most of you prpbably already know this) .
The two attached cables fit into the the USB (audio) + mini display port. The video works great, but no sound. I called Apple for tech support and we tried a few things like changing the sound output to USB, but no luck.
I can call Tekserve on Monday, but would love to figure this out before then for the week-end.
    Thanks everyone for your help.
    Mary

There are actually 2 different Mini Display port to HDMI adapters from Kanex. One supports 2 channel audio through the USB audio out cable, which is the one you have Mary. The other one with the extra audio plug cable supports 5.1 digital audio.
    http://kanexlive.com/products/item.aspx?id=3323
    http://kanexlive.com/products/item.aspx?id=3495
I don't have either of these adapters but I would think that you "should" be able to go into your System Preferences under Sound. If the USB plug from the adapter is plugged into your MacBook, then it should show up in the output window in the Sound preferences which you would then choose instead of outputting the sound to the built-in MacBook speakers.
At the bottom of the product description page of the adapter that you have (the USB 2.0 version), it says this:
+Sound Output setting on Macs must be changed to "USB Sound Device/USB Type" to have the adapter operating correctly.+*
Let us know if you get it working properly. I'm considering getting one also.
Sorry.... I just re-read your initial post and it sounds like you already DID try switching the sound output to USB with no luck. The only other thing I can think of is the adapter might be bad and maybe exchange it for another one from where you purchased it. Or you could maybe exchange it for the 5.1 digital audio out version. Although it sounds like your sound is going directly into the tv via HDMI and not a surround sound receiver.
Kanex does have tech support and contact links on their web page. Maybe you should email them directly about your problem. Unfortunately I'm sure you'll have to wait til sometime during the work week to get a reply back.
