System-wide alarm in iPhone SDK

Is there an equivalent of CalAlarm class in the iPhone SDK? Does anyone know how else we can set a system-wide alarm?

Until push notification is added to the SDK, you cannot set a system-wide alarm.

  • IPhone SDK - What is the equivalent of a combo box

I have a screen where there are quite a few items which are of the multiple-choice type. In other platforms i use a combo box (pick lists) to do this.
On the iPhone SDK the only thing that comes close is the UIPicketView which is ugly IMHO. it takes too much real estate and too heavy.
Is this is the only control available now?
Also does the UIPicker come with an associated control which will launch the picker? What i mean is on other platforms and on the web there is a text field with a button with a down arrow next to it. Clicking either on the text field or the down arrow drops the list down. Is there a similar control on the iPhone which when clicked launches the picker OR do i have to create a button or a custom view which will launch the picker?
Thanks for reading this and for your feedback.

I do not believe there is an equivalent of -D in the DB JVM, a possible solution is:
Load a properties file into the DB using Loadjava, then open this file from your Java code using Properties.load(), then iterate the properties calling System.setProperty().

  • IPhone SDK custom installation, what do I need?

FYI, I will be developing iPhone Apps only and don't want to install unnecessary things.
    Options are:
    Developer Tools Essentials (Required.)
    iPhone SDK (Obviously need.)
System Tools (Do I need? It's checked by default.)
UNIX Development Support (Do I need? It's checked by default.)
Mac OS X 10.3.9 Support (Know I don't need, not developing anything for OS X, particularly not an old version.)
WebObjects (Do I need? It's NOT checked by default.)
    Thanks.

    Hi--
    Welcome to the Apple Discussions.
System Tools (Do I need? It's checked by default.)
I would suggest "yes." That's the installer for the performance tools. Shark, especially, can be invaluable for profiling your code.
UNIX Development Support (Do I need? It's checked by default.)
I'd suggest "yes." It's command line tools you might want at some point (to help in automating builds, etc.). Some aspects of scripting with OS X can also be made easier if you have the UNIX dev support installed.
WebObjects (Do I need? It's NOT checked by default.)
Definitely not, that's a web application framework you'd use if you were building a web site.

  • Your Session has Expired - iPhone SDK 3.1.2

I am new in development. I had my activation done. I try to download from my Mac - Safari and Firefox and I have this error.
    Your session has expired.
Please return to the ADC Member Site and attempt to download the file again.
If you feel you received this message in error, please reference this code when contacting the ADC Support Team: V2
I had been trying for almost a week and still have this error. I had submitted my problem to Apple but no reply from them. Anyone can advice on this.
    regards

Updating - my issue was solved:
I've noted that when I was trying to download it through my VPN connection (which connects my internet with my office internet), I forgot to check the "Send all traffic over VPN connection" under the "system preferences - network - My VPN Connection - Advanced...". After checking that this option was "enabled" and all of my network traffic was passing through the VPN, I succeeded downloading it. By that point it must be something wrong with my ISP "Telefonica Espana - Madrid".
It turns out to be a "intercept proxy" which was implemented by them. As I'm a new subscriber to their service, by default, they redirect my internet connection through this proxy, which they "offer" as a "security" service in order to avoid spamming, fishing websites threats, "parental control" over the web and finally as a "ad blocking proxy". My actual ISP (telefonica espana) offers it by default to their new subscribers and after 30 days they charge us 3,50 EUR/month for this proxy service called "Canguro Net Plus". Actually this clumsy proxy service was blocking my download requests on http://developer.apple.com/iphone. Even after disabling the "Canguro Net Plus" service through its web page configuration, it was still forcing my internet connection to pass through their clumsy proxy. I had to call to their customer service number to request it to be cancelled (They will only accept to cancel it if you call them by phone). After that I'm now able to download the iphone sdk 3.1.3, 2.82 GB in 45 minutes.
So, if the workaround mentioned above, regarding the change from http to https, doesn't work for you, I suggest you to try a VPN connection in which you must be able to access the internet as well. As a diagnose action you can even try to download it through the "Tor" (The onion router) just to let you verify that through "Tor" you are able to download just a small part of the 2.82 GB. "Tor" is really slow therefore you won't be able to download the iphone sdk (as I said - it's only for a diagnose action). It'll just indicate you that your ISP probably is blocking your download with a clumsy "intercept/cache/transparent proxy" service. Maybe you are able to detect that your ISP is applying some kind of proxy service over your internet connection. Just google it or contact your ISP customer service.
    Good luck!

  • "system-wide" proxy ?

I might not have the terminology quite right on this, I'm far from being an expert on the subject. That's why I'm turning to you guys !!!!!!!!!
I'm currently tethering my iPhone's connection via an app called PDANet which allows the computer to connect to a sort of 'wifi router' via an ad-hoc connection. While this doesn't quite work as they advertise it to (probably something I'm not doing that's getting auto 'automagically' in Windows/OS X), I am able to 'connect' to my iPhone and get offered an IP back when this app is running. I then launch the small socks server from the iPhone's term and voila I can use it to browse the tubes in firefox (with the proper settings).
Which is what brings me to my question: using this connection to my socks5 server running on my iPhone, I can resolve names and do http, at least. I'm just wondering, why this could be not set up as a 'system wide' service. In other words, all apps that want to connect to a certain IP/domain to a certain port, will do so as they always do. In other words why can't I set up a sort of service or daemon that uses this socks5 connection to the iPhone and sends back the data to the apps? As if my nameserver were the IP on the iPhone ? Or would I need something else running on the phone to provide that capability ?
Right now, when I dhcpcd, I get my IP from the iPhone, but nothing gets written in /etc/resolv.conf. I can only ping the iPhone's IP (which is the one I use to connect via proxy in firefox), and what I can only assume is my phone's IP on the 3G network, which starts with 10 (if that means anything to you experts.)....
Anyway, I'd like your thoughts on this..

delta24 wrote:Try creating a script in /etc/profile.d named proxy.sh having all the proxy config.
The behavier I want to achieve is that I can hot swap proxy and non proxy networks without restarting the browser. This works under gnome because chromium reads the proxy config from gconf which gets updated on network change but this doesn't work without gnome.
Most of the time I'm on networks without proxies. Only in university I need them. A simple switch to activate them when needed would be nice.

I've traced this problem to be the compiler version being used. From what I can tell, REDACTED requires GCC 4.2 while iPhone SDK 2.x only works with GCC 4.0.
Here's a way to fix this.
In your Target Info, select Build separator and look for the section Compiler Version. Then:
    1. Select the C/C++ Compiler Version
    2. Set the default to GCC 4.0
    3. At the bottom-left control, hit Add Build Setting Condition
    4. On the left, choose 'Device - iPhone OS 3.0'
    5. On the right, chose GCC 4.2
    6. Repeat steps 3 to 5, now with 'Simulator - iPhone OS 3.0' on step 4.

  • IPhone SDK - Ideas for pop-up menus

I have a screen where there are quite a few items which are of the multiple-choice type. In other platforms we use a combo box (pick lists) to do this.
On the iPhone SDK the only thing that comes close is the UIPickerView which is too heavy IMHO.
Currently i am using a full screen pop-up with a UITableView inside it for the menu items. It is functional but not cool.
I guess i could create a view which is rendered as a pop-up and add it as a subview to the parent and make it behave like a pop-up menu.
Has anyone tried do implement one? I would greatly appreciate your ideas on this.
    Thanks,

Yes, once you master the tutorial on creating these type of
    menus, you can
have them as dropdowns, or flyouts (as they are commonly
    called when
attached to a vertical menu system).

  • IPHONE SDK FOR DEVELOPERS.

    Hi Mates,
After many trials, I managed to download the iPhone SDK. I have the following folders :
    AccelerometerGraph,
    BubbleLevel,
    CryptoExercise,
    HelloWorld,
    PVRTextureLoader,
    SpeakHere,
    TouchCells,
    UICatalogue.
I am not sure if all the folders were downloaded well.
I have some problems to start. I have Windows Vista. Can the iPHone SDK run under Vista or does it require Mac OS.
    Thanks to help.
    Judex.

Thanks for the "friendly" note, but as a "friendly" reminder to you - this is a user to user help forum that is primarily composed of "average joe" users of the iPhone. And what I mean by that is, this is not a computer programmer's forum.
Nothing personal against the OP for this thread, but he missed the minimum system requirements for the SDK provided at Apple's website where the SDK can be downloaded. Based on this alone, and I could very well be wrong, but I venture to say that he is not a computer programmer, or is not a programmer by profession.
I certainly could have worded my reply differently to be 100% accurate in regards to technical details for the computer programmer and anal retentive type, which I venture to say these discussions are not primarily composed of.
I included the part about the iPhone running an optimized version of OS X in regards to Apple's minimum system requirements for the SDK primarily to keep it simple since I expected - "why doesn't Apple utilize resources to support Windows with the SDK?"
Most people who ask that question are not computer programmers as a hobby or by profession either.
To keep it simple for what is likely the majority here, which probably does not include many computer programmers by profession - Apple could port the SDK to Windows, but since Apple sells computers and other hardware including iPods and the iPhone, along with their own software, Apple chose to support an Intel Mac running Leopard only for the iPhone and iPod Touch SDK - with both the iPhone and the iPod Touch running an optimized version of OS X.
Thanks for the note and clarification.

  • IPhone SDK - trouble working with iPod Touch 2G

Hello, new Macbook OSX 10.5.4, new iPod Touch running iPhone OS 2.1. Just downloaded and installed xcode 3.1.1 and newest iPhone SDK.
I read the iPhone OS Pre-Installation Advisory document found here:
    http://developer.apple.com/iphone/download.action?path=/iphone/iphoneos_software_preinstallation_advisory/iphone_os_2.1_preinstallationadvisory.pdf
    I created shortcut:
    .../iPhoneOS.platform/DeviceSupport/2.1.1/
    pointed to:
    .../iPhoneOS.platform/DeviceSupport/2.1/
    Checked the shortcut, it works.
Start xcode, open Window->Orgnizer. "Xcode cannot find the software image to install this version" is showing up just below the "Software Version" line. Software version has a value of 2.1.1 (5F138).
If I ignore this and continue to build, sign and try the application. I will receive an error message "Your mobile device has encountered an unexpected error (0xE800003A) during the install phase: Verifying application" I tried disconnect the iPod Touch, power off, power on. Same problem.
I tried to make a complete copy in (not a shortcut):
    .../iPhoneOS.platform/DeviceSupport/2.1.1/
    Same problem.
What should I do to trace this issue?

I wanted to compile and upload the sample app Accelerometer Graph onto my brand new ipod touch 16.
I got the notorious error (0xE800003A) during the install phase, verifying.
i checked all the product id#'s which i just copied/pasted when creating the certificates etc.... so i don't know what's wrong... so what IS wrong?
    here's the logs:

  • IPhone SDK 3.1: Problem compiling first Hello World App

    Hi,
I am new to XCode, Mac OS and iPhone Development.
I had already installed the earlier iPhone SDK (version prior to the latest 3.1) into my Mac OS 10.6. I was not able to run
the hello world program through xCode as while opting for Build and Run, the simulator it was giving me an error saying that it cannot find the right SDK.
I had assumed that the old SDK is not compatible with the new Mac OS 10.6 (Snow Leopard). I had then uninstalled the old
iPhone SDK using Terminal tool, using the command line given in the xCode uninstall guide.
Installed the latest iPhone SDK (version 3.1), and then tried to compile the hello world app through xCode. Now I am getting the following error:
*error: can't exec '/Developer/Platforms/iPhoneSimulator.platform/Developer/usr/bin/gcc-4.2' (No such file or directory*)
I had located the above mentioned directory and could not find the file: "gcc-4.2" as mentioned in the error. Instead
executable files like "i686-apple-darwin10-gcc-4.2.1" are present there.
    My Project Settings are:
Project Format - xcode 3.2 -compatible
Base SDK - iPhone Simulator 3.1
Compiler Version - System Default (GCC 4.2)
I am totally confused here, as I don't know how to correctly set up the ENV, as I thought the iPhone installer SDK does that automatically.
    Please help me out.
Thanks in advance for your time,
    JC.

Could you let me know as where is the xcode setting through which it is looking for the compiler in the following path ? This path is probably wrong (Pls refer to the error messages)
I'm not sure this will be of any help to you -- I'm not sure if it's the answer you're looking for, since I don't really know enough on the subject. However, this may answer your question, or at least maybe help you find the answer for yourself, so it's worth a shot. Try going to Edit Project Settings in the Project menu, and once the Project Settings open, select the Build tab. Search through this and see if you find any preferences along the lines of what you are looking for. In particular I would try the sections toward the bottom about the GCC 4.0 compiler. Sorry if this was a waste of time, but I wanted to try...

  • Cannot use AddressBook Framework for iphone SDK

I am trying to use the AddressBook Framework with iPhone SDK, and I added the following framework to my xcode project:
    /Developer/Platforms/iPhoneOS.platform/Developer/SDKs/iPhoneOS2.0.sdk/System/Lib rary/Frameworks/AddressBook.framework
When I compile, references to classes such as ABAddressBook and ABPerson cannot be resolved. ('ABPerson undeclared ...'). However, It seems the C interface to AddressBook is defined.
I am using the framework in the iPhone SDK directory, and I have #import <AddressBook/AddressBook.h> in my header file, but it is not working for me. Any tips would be appreciated.

It does explain the OP's problems
Conserning add and checking if there are changed records in the addressbook I hear people complain about it and got refered to apple to report it as a bug for the sdk.
And since we still are limited when it comes to mentioning the api I will rather link something someone else wrote on the topic before.
Have a look here: http://forums.macrumors.com/showthread.php?p=5495200 that should give you some of the basics.

  • Iphone sdk iTunes

I am a bit new to this forum so I hope not to commit any major faux pas' in this post:
I am just reading the iPhone sdk documents, and trying to wrap my head around the possibilities.
I am trying to figure out if there is a way to access the music that the user has on their device. Is it possible to read that XML from a users iTunes directly, or somehow interact with the file system to find all of their music?
Thanks for any and all guidance. Much will be appreciated and returned.

Same question. Is there any way to ask the user to select a song that's on the iPhone?

  • IPhone SDK on Tiger

Ok, last night I downloaded the 2GB free iPhone SDK so I could start developing some small apps for the iPhone and iPod touch. After waiting 30 minutes for the download to complete I was finally ready to start. I double clicked the iPhone SDK icon only to see a very cruel and mean message come up which read the following "Couldn't open iPhone SDK. This package type requires Mac OS X 10.5." Why, in the world would Apple force people who want to develop for THEIR PRODUCTS use a operating system that they don't want to? I have OS X Tiger (10.4.11) and do not have Leopard yet. Is there a version for Tiger available?

Well, you see, the iPhone SDK is made for Xcode 3. Xcode 3 is only available for Leopard and it would take a very long time for Apple to re-develop it just for Tiger and it wouldn't be worth the effort since most of the developers have all the newest programs installed, including Leopard.
    That's why!

  • IPhone SDK Uninsallation

    Hey everyone.
I've been trying to uninstall the iPhone SDK from my system using the directions in the PDF file that comes with the SDK. When I go into Terminal, I type in:
    $ sudo <Xcode>/Library/uninstall-devtools --mode=all
When I type in this (or if I directly copy/paste), the following error appears:
-bash: Xcode: No such file or directory
Any ideas? I'm not so good with the Terminal side of OS X, so I'm coming to you guys.

I was having the same problem. Thanks for the helpful answer. Here's another couple of questions. It has now removed everything, but the "developer" directory remains. Is this directory part of the Mac OS system default install or was it created by the iphone SDK? Can it be removed? it still has a bunch of files in it.

  • IPhone SDK: access outside the sandbox?

In reading the docs for the iPhone SDK the sandbox aspect makes it sound like it will be impossible to create utilities that manipulate the system, other apps files, etc. Has anyone gotten a better read on this?
For example if you wanted to build something that would crawl the filesystem (e.g. a backup tool), how would you do it?

I don't know about the file system... but you can access pictures from the photos and addresses from the address book (music?) so some sort of rudimentary backup could happen... but then, if you can only backup to the same hard drive you are using it's not much use.
