Systemctl (systemd) zsh autocomplete
Has anyone created a zsh command completion script for systemctl? If so, would you mind sharing on the AUR?
In my mind, it should work like so:
systemctl en[TAB] wic[TAB]
#evaluates to
systemctl enable wicd.service
systemctl rest[TAB] get[TAB][TAB]
#evaluates to
systemctl restart getty@tty
 (etc)
For {COMMAND}, it should obviously expand to list-units, start, stop, reload, restart, try-restart, reload-or-restart, reload-or-try-restart, isolate, kill, is-active, status, show, reset-failed, enable, disable, is-enabled, load, list-jobs, cancel, monitor, dump, dot, snapshot, delete, daemon-reload, daemon-reexec, show-environment, set-environment, unset-environment, default, rescue, emergency, halt, poweroff, reboot, kexec, or exit.
As for [NAME...], it's gonna be a lot more complicated. Depending on the COMMAND, it should search through the relevant files in /lib/systemd/system/ and /etc/systemd/system, or the currently enabled services, or the currently running services, etc.
If nobody's made/in the process of making something like this, I'll give it a go when I have the time. Although I'd probably just focus on the start, restart, stop, enable, disable, poweroff and reboot, since those are the only commands I use.
Awesome, thanks. I did make a start on my own, but I couldn't get it to work properly. You might want to write up a PKGBUILD and submit it to the AUR so more people can find it (here's the PKGBUILD I wrote up to install it on my PC, which'll save you ~20 seconds of writing).
AUR submission instructions are here.

Afraid of system being compromised - newbie in "security"
Hello,
PART 1:
There are two computers. Computer A uses openSuse and it is usually used for common tasks (not risk at all), suddenly, one day some "bookmarks" from Mozilla Firefox were modified but not by the legitimate users. The firewall rules were for the Eth0 (unique interface) in External zone, and the router is connected directly to the DSL line (no other computers in LAN). So, only legitimate users on one computer, they know how to change bookmarks, and they are pretty sure they didn't modified them.
I extract also here the iptables -L rules.
userA@computerA:~> sudo /usr/sbin/iptables -L

The modification in the bookmarks of Firefox is not possible to be done by us, is not so easy to do it by error, because the bookmarks where modified specifically in a tree of folders, deleting two URL markers and adding other two.
I know by the language and the context of the new URL that the "intruder" is from my nationality.
The problem is that the legitimate users of the computer just delete both fake URL and add the original ones. After that, they just continue using normally the computer. That day, none of that URL webpages where under attack (like DNS or sth like that and that maybe the auto-refresh - i don't know if it exists - of Firefox just updated both of them in the moment of the attack of the webpages). Also, they didn't say anything about a possible attack days after that. And because is in the bookmarks of Firefox (something that is locally stored) I thought was a direct and specified attack to the computer A and its users.
Question A: Was my supposition correct? Or there is still any possibility to be a general attack? I dismiss any possibility of popular worm/virus because the modification of the markers were really specific and on national context.
Question B: What is the best procedure to analyze the source of the attack and how to protect against it? How to know what things have been modified? I think it is weird that the intruder shows himself modified something in the system (like markers in Firefox), so, he/she wants to be known, like a threat.
I have installed and started the Clamav antivirus. I can show so far that there are:
Windows and Data NTFS partitions (Windows not really used, Data used from Linux):
- hundreds of Heuristics.Encrypted.ZIP (or PDF, RAR), Heuristics.Broken.Executable
- file .htm with Exploit.HTML.MHTRedir.4n
- file .pdf with Exploit.PDF-1745
- file .rar with Trojan.W32.HotKeysHook.A
- 5 files .js with Worm.JS.Redlof.A
Linux (normally used):
- /boot/vmlinux-3.1.10-1.16-desktop.gz Heuristics.Broken.Executable
- /home/userA/Applications/jDownloaders/JDownlaoder/libs/jna.jar Heuristics.Broken.Executable
- /home/userA/.jd/libs/jna.jar Heuristics.Broken.Executable
- /home/userA/.thunderbird/ct5dfrhd.default/training.dat Heuristics.Broken.Executable
- /lib/firmware/vxge/X3fw.ncf Heuristics.Encrypted.Zip
- /lib/firmware/vxge/X3fw-pxe.ncf Heuristics.Encrypted.Zip
In the time the detection was notified, Windows wasn't used in the days before. Therefore, Linux was the O.S. in the time of the intrusion. So, the files with Exploits, Trojan and Worm is really difficult (or pretty sure) to be executed the days before, because are really weird files and maybe used some months or years ago, not the last weeks, and for sure not from linux.
PART 2:
Now I have access to the main computerA, were the "intrusion" was done 2 weeks and half ago, but I really don't know what to do and how to proceed. At least I have installed clamav and I have shown the results above.
The problem is that I come with the computerB with ArchLinux, and I needed internet to start checking how to perform with all this. The problem is that after activate eth0 and send dhcp client to get the IP, I get the connection and just after that I saw a really weird behaviour. Suddenly, the computer got a little freeze, well, not really freeze, but slow for some moments, and when I check in terminal what happend, my prompt was modified.
Before was:
ussr@localhost
now:
ussr@unknown002454062846
That put my alarms on, so I quickly disconnect ethernet. Because I don't know how to proceed, and really scared of the situation, I just post the below "captures".

I have checked in .bashrc and the prompt is still:
PS1='[\u@\h \W]\$ '
And \h means hostname... And if I check in /etc/hosts:
127.0.0.1 localhost.localdomain localhost
::1 localhost.localdomain localhost
So, something is wrong..
I don't know how to proceed, nor in the computer A, neither in the computer B.
Question C: Is possible to have any mechanism to know every file that is modified, add or delete on the whole system? Something like the log but for every file? I think is the only way to know what is going on.
Any help? Please, I'm so lost in this area..Ok, thank you for the answers.
Because I don't know about which computer you ask about the services, I write for both.
Computer A

I don't understand the question 'Are the log in attempts in the logs legitimate, or were they at a time when you were not attempting to login?', but I will try to answer something related:
The computerA is usually connected (nearly 24/7) and between the normal using (not attack identified) and the notification of modification of the bookmarks (possible attack performed) it was 1 day in between. They didn't need to log in again, because the computer was switched on and only with the screen blacked out.
Router
The router has the possibility to be used by wireless, but is deactivated. The only wires connected directly to the router goes to the computerA. There is no way to be tapped. Impossible to be other users (intruders) from the same LAN.
Only two possibilities:
- tap the wire in some point from our house to the DSLAM (telco's), the wires of the neighborhood.
- attack from outside
Router has a easy password to access, but I think first it has to be in the LAN to can connect, isn't it?
For sure none of the legitimate users access the router.
I have to say, I trust in the legitimate users 120%.
I have changed the physical address to show it here.

'Are you certain that malware running in the browser did not change things?'
- I don't know how to detect if I have malware in my browser, but I don't see anything like weird addons, advertisement,..
'No chance that your users were phished?'
- No idea how to know if they were phished, and how to know know looking the computer.
'Java exploits?'
- The same. No idea how to know. I posted the version of icedtea to run java applets. I think they are not used to execute java applets on the Web, they usually use it for e-mail + digital newspapers.
I see in port forwarding two ports for emule (really weird... several years without using that program), but then nmap doesn't detect open that ports. Why?
Computer B - The next results is without internet connection. (If I connect ethernet I will need other services like iptables, dhcpcd,... that are not listed now)

[Connecting to the LAN and therefore to Internet]
If I try to connect to internet now, it doesn't work. I can do sudo ifconfig eth0 up, but sudo dhcpcd eth0 doesn't work.
It says: eth0 sending IPv6 Router Solicitation.... finally no IPv6 Routers available. Timed out. I know that it has to be IPv4, but yesterday it worked, today not.
If I try to do ping 192.168.1.1 it says: network is unreachable.
I have to edit /etc/dhcpcd.conf manually and modify this lines:
#noipv4ll
noipv6rs
Also, modify the /etc/hosts and comment ::1 line
But as I said, i didn't modified them to the inverse, and yesterday (first time I connect computerB to the LAN of computerA it worked correctly the dhcpcd for ipv4)
As I see, still not network connection... at least dhcpcd has assigned me an ip, etc, but it is not the normal in range 192.168.1.x (as the router 192.168.1.1 and the other pc 192.168.1.33)
but 169.254.67.213, netmask 255.255.0.0 and broadcast 169.254.255.255
Something weird... and of course, still network is unreachable if I try to do ping to google or the router.
I have to reset manually the router to can work properly from the computerB.
Anormal behaviour
The point is after I connect to the Internet (ping that works) the computer get slowly, emacs doesn't work, if I try to open another terminal it says KDEInit could not launch '/usr/bin/konsole'
So, something goes wrong.

Mkinitcpio problem when booting (plymouth not found) [SOLVED]
I installed Arch very recently, but I'm having a bit of a problem with mkinitcpio. I cannot fully boot into my system.
It's looking for Plymouth. I looked up Plymouth on the wiki, and it appears to be a graphical splash screen manager. The thing is I don't have this package installed or in my hooks/modules in my mkinitcpio.conf file, so there's no reason why systemd should even be looking for it.
So I've done some searching for this issue, but I haven't found any threads that could solve my problem. The issue is systemd keeps looking for a binary that I don't have or specified, so I'm wondering what's going on.
Is this a bug?

Edit: This has nothing to do with your question, but I noticed you have a /tmp partition. Do yu actually need a persistent /tmp? Or did you just do this because it is what you are used to doing? Systemd includes a tmp.mount file that automatically puts it on a tmpfs. I actually think it may even override what is in your fstab... though I have not tested this. If you want to keep your persistent /tmp, you should disable tmp.mount or mask it as well.
I don't know what you mean... because systemd shouldn't be looking for it. I'll scrounge around in my config files for systemctl/systemd and see if I can find anything.
Yes, eventually I'm going to use dm-crypt+LUKS, so that the /tmp directory will be encrypted with random data (and possibly tmpfs). Since I wasn't comfortable trying to install Arch the first time, I wanted to make sure I would get it working with GRUB2, GPT and LVM first, so I'm going to do encryption after I get bootup working.
Sorry to ask but how do I disable "tmp.mount"?
I am new to systemd, but I've only gotten familiar with Debian's sysvinit.
I just looked in the systemd page of the Wiki and didn't find anything. -
Default Installation on LVM is not working
New Thread (Default installation of LVM not working):
First I did everything exactly as the LVM guide tells me. Then I continued with the Installation Guide. No extra options, no change from defaults. When I try to boot it, it fails.
I tried downgrading to 2.02.103-1. No result.
Old Thread (when I did not know that LVM was at fault):
Current state:
EDIT5: OK I have boiled it down to LVM. When I copied all files from etcvol to /etc in root it continued booting until it hit mounting /home... I have no idea what the §$%&/ is wrong.

Even stranger: After I removed homevol and swapvol from fstab i get stuck at

Rest is default installation guide

So what goes wrong? I can't provide the exact logs as the journal persistency module dies in this case. If you know a way to get the actual files please tell me.
Everything works fine down to "Reached target Local File Systems"
He runs some isEmpty checks on tmpfiles.d directories which some succeed and /etc/tmpfiles.d and /usr/local/lib/tmpfiles.d fail
systemd-tmpfiles --create --remove --exclude-prefix=/dev gets forked

dbus.socket from listening to running
systemd-logind gets forked
Failed to start D-Bus System Message Bus
Failed to start Login Service
I had a look at higher debug levels, but they all just showed systemd starting something which either failed or in the case of D-Bus died soon after.
When I broke into init, I could see the volumes which contained what they were supposed to contain.
Except that nothing really interesting. I noticed a complaint that the AHCI driver should be replaced against a specialized one. But I don't think thats the problem.
Thank you for your help!
Last edited by GNA (2014-01-15 21:44:01)Removed the fsck filehook.
posted the fstab.
Boot logs will follow shortly. I just have to figure out how to get them in file form when the journal does not contain anything.
EDIT: OK I have no idea how to get my own boot logs sad but true. ill just try to add as much context as I can see but I can't possibly write all of this down by hand.
EDIT2: Ah no wonder when flushing of journal to persistent storage fails
EDIT3: Ill just start decreasing the complexity one by one. And as it is so easy ill start with btrfs.
EDIT4: Changing btrfs to ext4 did not change anything.
EDIT5: OK I have boiled it down to LVM. When I copied all files from etcvol to /etc in root it continued booting until it hit mounting /home... I have no idea what the §$%&/ is wrong.

EDIT6: Today I tried to make a "failsafe" system with lvm and luks. Turns out it is not failsafe.
First I did everything exactly as the LVM on LUKS guide tells me. Then I continued with the Installation Guide. No extra options, no change from defaults. The result is the very same I currently have.
EDIT7: Now that I think about it; There was something strange during pvcreate /dev/mapper/lvm. It complained: "/dev/sdc: open failed: No medium found" which is strange as there was never a /dev/sdc to begin with.
I'll try to install on a pure LVM partition without crypto.
EDIT8: OK pure install only LVM is also broken.

NVIDIA GeForce GTX 660 - xrandr always sees HDMI disconnected
I have a desktop PC running Arch Linux and my issue is that xrandr always reports the HDMI as disconnected,
when it's actually connected to the TV.
There doesn't seem to be anything wrong with the card (the HDMI output worked under Windows).
From lspci:
01:00.0 VGA compatible controller: NVIDIA Corporation GK106 [GeForce GTX 660] (rev a1)
01:00.1 Audio device: NVIDIA Corporation GK106 HDMI Audio Controller (rev a1)
Output of xrandr:

DVI-I-0 disconnected primary (normal left inverted right x axis y axis)
DVI-I-1 disconnected (normal left inverted right x axis y axis)
HDMI-0 disconnected (normal left inverted right x axis y axis)
DP-0 disconnected (normal left inverted right x axis y axis)
DVI-D-0 connected 2048x1152+0+0 (normal left inverted right x axis y axis) 510mm x 287mm

1280x1024 60.02
1280x960 60.00
1280x800 59.81

800x600 60.32 56.25
640x480 59.94
DP-1 disconnected (normal left inverted right x axis y axis)
And the output remains the same whether or not the HDMI is disconnected.
I've tried using nouveau and the binary NVIDIA driver, I experience the same issue with both.
I've tried booting with HDMI plugged in and the TV set to the correct input, no difference.
I've tried booting with only the TV plugged in (no desktop monitor on DVI), that also made no difference (with the HDMI).lbrown wrote:

[SOLVED]dbus and systemd: "systemctl --user" gets "Connection refused"
Hi,
I want to enable some systemd user service. Here is what I get
$ LANG=C systemctl --user
Failed to get D-Bus connection: Connection refused
$ echo $DBUS_SESSION_BUS_ADDRESS
unix:abstract=/tmp/dbus-RboLZS2wF3,guid=feb8bd85248906d12a826acd54e3c4ad
I don't believe I've ever touched dbus, so I'm a bit lost. There's the following line in my ~/.xinitrc:
exec dbus-launch xmonad
Seems like I'm not the only one with trouble on that topic, but I could not solve my problem.

I thought this had always worked, but it seems that systemctl cannot see `.service` files that are in my `/usr/lib/systemd/user` folder and I can't figure out why:

I have already looked at https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Systemd/User which seems to tell me to check sytemctl --user status but that appears to be loaded and working fine, I have a feeling I'm missing something obvious but can't figure out what it is. How do I make systemctl include this directory?

[Solved]With systemd on install media, systemctl works during install?
When I upgrading my current machine from sysvinit to systemd, in order to use systemctl to enable services, I first had to reboot the system.
With the new install media for October using systemd, is it possible to enable these services using systemctl during the install (ie, so I could add 'systemctl enable foo.service' to install scripts)?
I do realize that I could just manually symlink, but it feel much nicer to use systemctl.
Last edited by Morrad (2012-10-08 05:12:39)I do exactly that in my install script...
systemctl enable cronie.service
systemctl enable
systemctl enable UEFIstubMOVE.path

...but see below for the message I get when I try to start one of the services...

Trouble resuming from hibernation (systemd / systemctl)
Since a few weeks back I have trouble resuming from hibernation on my Samsung NC10 netbook. I go into hibernation with 'systemctl hibernate' and everything is fine, but when i resume the computer it returns to were I was before for a couple of seconds (between 5-10) and then it hibernates again. My only option is to start a terminal during those seconds and type reboot. Any tips on how to start troubleshooting this and find out what is causing the system to go hibernating again after resuming.
Edit: Realized I posted this in the wrong section, please move thread to 'Laptop issues'
Last edited by mindglowba7fb830d2cbbed73 (2014-06-12 23:18:37)Ok, sorry, I guess I'm in the wrong section for this.
I just removed the grub and the kernel hooks and my session (for example an unsaved document) is still being recovered after reboot. I normally close all my windows before shutting down, so I didn't realize this until now. -
'systemctl --user status' returns 'Failed to get D-Bus connection'
Basically I am trying to run a user session of systemd. Up to now, this worked without doing the additional parts from the systemd/User wiki-page. Now it returns 'Failed to get D-Bus connection: No such file or directory' or 'Failed to read server status: Input/output error' (the first one when I try it from the TTY, the second one from within xfce / urxvtc). Even after doing the wiki-page, it still returns the two error messages.
My current 'systemctl status':

Zsh and interactive commands.
I'm having a strange issue with zsh. I run it as my login shell, but when I run interactive commands within it in Terminator (like pacman, or yaourt), special keys and keycombos like Enter and Ctrl-C stop working, and just output text (^M for Enter, ^C for Ctrl-C). I read about this being a problem with certain programs changing the state of the shell and not changing it back, and in fact I can fix this temporarily by running
reset && ttyctl -f
but the problem returns with every new instance of Terminator I launch.
How can I make this fix persistent? Thanks in advance..zshrc:

Hey!
I am a novice Arch user and I am having problems with the latest gpg distribution when used with systemd and ssh-support. Currently, I am using i3 with lightdm, and I am using systemd to start gpg-agent with ssh support. Specifically, I have the following gpg-agent.service file in my ${HOME}/.config/systemd/user/ directory:
[Unit]
Description=gpg-agent Daemon with SSH Support
[Service]
Type=forking
ExecStart=/usr/bin/gpg-agent --quiet --daemon --enable-ssh-support
Restart=on-success
[Install]
WantedBy=default.target
which is expected to restart when exited properly and/or due to a signal. When I enable and start the service with systemctl --user prefix, it works as it is supposed to be. I have the following gpg-agent.conf file:
default-cache-ttl 600
default-cache-ttl-ssh 3600
max-cache-ttl 7200
max-cache-ttl-ssh 7200
enforce-passphrase-constraints
min-passphrase-len 10
min-passphrase-nonalpha 4
max-passphrase-days 180
pinentry-program /usr/bin/pinentry-curses
and the following excerpt in my .zshrc:
# GPG configuration
# Check for the gpg-agent socket, and set SSH_AUTH_SOCK and GPG_TTY
# environment variables accordingly:
if [[ -S "${HOME}/.gnupg/S.gpg-agent.ssh" ]]; then
export GPG_TTY=$(tty)
if [[ ${SSH_AUTH_SOCK} != "${HOME}/.gnupg/S.gpg-agent.ssh" ]]; then
export SSH_AUTH_SOCK="${HOME}/.gnupg/S.gpg-agent.ssh"
fi
fi
The problem is, everything is working properly except for one thing: "When I want to ssh to my server, I get an 'Agent admitted failure to sign using the key' error." I mean, the environment variables seem to be fine when I fire up a zsh session (terminal emulator) and/or everything seems ok when I issue systemctl --user status gpg-agent, but I cannot ssh to my server using my gpg-key. However, when I stop the systemd unit and just issue eval $(gpg-agent --quiet --daemon --enable-ssh-support) in a new terminal emulator, ssh works fine. In both of the aforementioned versions, when I issue gpg --clearsign some_file.txt command, I am asked in the terminal emulator for my password (I suppose in the so called curses pinentry program).
I thank you in advance for your time, and appreciate any suggestions. Best,You might need to make a script to start it. Like "/usr/local/bin/gpg-agent-daemon.zsh"
then in that file have:
#!/usr/bin/zsh
gpg-agent --quiet --daemon --enable-ssh-support --write-env-file "${HOME}/.gpg-agent-info"
And do chmod +x
And in your gpg-agent.service file:
[Service]
Type=forking
ExecStart=gpg-agent-daemon.zsh
<...>
And then in $ZDOTDIR/.zprofile
# GPG configuration
# Check for the gpg-agent socket, and set SSH_AUTH_SOCK and GPG_TTY
# environment variables accordingly:
if [[ -S "${HOME}/.gnupg/S.gpg-agent.ssh" ]]; then
export GPG_TTY=$(tty)
export GPG_TTY
if [[ ${SSH_AUTH_SOCK} != "${HOME}/.gnupg/S.gpg-agent.ssh" ]]; then
export SSH_AUTH_SOCK="${HOME}/.gnupg/S.gpg-agent.ssh"
fi
if [ -f "${HOME}/.gpg-agent-info" ]; then
. "${HOME}/.gpg-agent-info"
export GPG_AGENT_INFO

[SOLVED] Systemctl poweroff etc hangs for non-root user
Hi. I recently messed up /etc/passwd and /etc/group as explained here . It seems it might be related.
The problem I have now is that the power management commands (systemctl {poweroff, hibernate, suspend}) "hangs" for my non-root user. They do nothing, and are not even logged to the journal.
When run as root they all work just fine.
I've tried reinstalling systemd, but not its dependencies.
Maybe systemd had a user or group that got lost from the files?

Systemd not running my service
Hello,
I have created a timed service to mirror some repositories. If I do "sudo systemctl start mirror.service", nothing happens. It should fetch git repositories. If I run my mirror script from shell, everything works.

Good question
I think the problem is that it may run the script as you. I am not familiar with the mirror-git and mirror-svn commands. Is it possible they require that working directories be set?
This may not be exactly what you are looking for, but you may want to look at systemd user services.:
