  • Thinkpad T41 ethernet problem

    Hello
I have a thinkpad T41 2373 1FU model with linux installed on it , it works perfectly , every system component is recognized by the kernel. But i have a problem with the ethernet connection , it used to work perfectly but now when i plug a cable into there is no link and no light , the device is properly recognize by the system as a gigabit controller and it load the correct module.
I have changed to the latest bios found on the website. Can it be caused by the new bios or new embeded controller?
Anyone as an idea or has ever encountered this problem?

    Welcome to the forum!
Your 2100B card will always be slow, since it's only capable of 11Mbps speed. Time for upgrade, IMHO.
The Ethernet driver can be found here:
    http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site.wss/document.do?sitestyle=lenovo&lndocid=MIGR-62922
After downloading it, make sure to unapck it from the correct directory which should be C>Drivers>Win>Ethernet.
    Hope this helps.

  • HELP!!! Mac G4 450mhz dual ethernet PROBLEMS!

Hello, my mac is having a serious problem with the internet. It won't connect, and even though i have a ethernet cable plugged in, it says i don't. Everything was working fine until i left for 2 days and and plugged it for that time. I need the internet in that mac as soon as possible.
    PLEASE HELP ME!

I too, am having the same problem... but mine isn't because of the possible software update, it just flat out doesn't work!
I too, have tried asking for help with the possibility of (hopefully) restoring the driver/extension... but after reformating the drive and reinstalling the software from 10.2, to 10.2.8 and it still failed to work, I ended up buying a Belkin Gigabit Ethernet PCI Card that has FAILED in every way!!!
The Belkin card will work as a one-time thing, and after restarting or disconnecting the Ethernet cable, it fails to function and fails to be "selectable" within the Ethernet configuration "Show:" options.
    ...so don't buy the Belkin...
I have yet to resolve my dead Ethernet problem, and it is... a problem!
I know this isn't contributing much of anything, but don't waist your time with the Belkin. I bought one, it acted in the way described above, and the Belkin Tech Support suggested I exchange it with another one, and so I did... and it too... is acting in the manner described above.
No resolve... no Ethernet... no on-line schtuff. not on that G4!!!

  • Macbook Pro ethernet problems

    Hi All:
First post here. I have a 15" first generation MBP, and I'm having some ethernet problems. When my ethernet works, it works fine. However, if i were to shut down the machine and disconnect the ethernet cable, I cannot reconnect to the ethernet. In Network Preferences, Ethernet is not available in the pulldown and it appears gray-ed out in the Network Port Configurations. Restarting the computer, unplugging or resetting the modem doesn't help. Also, the PC link light on the modem will not be lit (but is lit when working).
The computer will not connect to any ethernet network, no matter where I am.
I've noticed if I keep resetting both comuter an modem a couple dozen times over a few hours, the PC link button will light, and upon next startup the ethernet connection will be restored. What do you guys think the problem is? It seems abnormal to me.

Had a similar situation with mine back in January, 2.16 Intel.
After spending 3 nights with my Cable ISP as the connection would drop-off, ethernet light flicker green, amber etc.
Took it back to Apple dealer, connected to Dealers network same problem. Cause:::: Motherboard had to be replaced, possible soder loose on the MO. Got it back in 10 days, haven't had a problem ever since.
Suggest you take back yours to have Apple dealer try this out.

  • Ethernet Problem with Multiple users on same Mac

Hi, sorry i advance for my english. I am writing from italy.
I have an imAc with 2 users profiles on it. one profile is administratoe, and the oter a standard user.
I also have a time capsule configured to connect to my network with the ethernet cable. the cable is plugged in the wan pot, the configuration is "bridged" and i use as a router a linksys wifi router.
well. suppsung that i am logging in with one of my users and access to time capsule wirelessly, it shows me the disk content.
i then swith to the other user without logging off the first one and then access time capsule where i see the same folfder and i can access it. so everything works fine.
in the case i connect my mac with ethernet (disabling airort) to my linksys router, ifuser 1mounts time capsule, user 2 can't access it if user 1 does not unmount.
    why so?
i need to switch from user 1 to user 2 without logging off, and i don't understand why it works wirless and not with ethernet..
    thak you

In fact, all my page beans are in REQUEST scope...
The only bean in Application scope is the standard applicationBean created by Creator itself.
We use one Bean in session scope which contains another class.
I will try to explain our common process:
    - when logging into the app, the session Bean stores user data (rights for using app,...);
    - when navigating in the app, the user can search data, modify them and create one (if he has the right to do it);
    - to define the screen, we use a lot the beforeRenderResponse();
    - when viewing a data, the user can choose to modify it, so depending on the action, the page is in "CONSULT" mode or "MODIFY" mode. In the second one, he can display new gridPanel (as a subform) to populate datatable.
The problem is obvious while using this grid: my grid can disappear if someone else has validated his form before me and if my page goes trough the beforeRender of my page.
It is not really clear. If needed, i can give access to our application to show the problem (and msn adress too to talk about it).

  • MacBook Pro 13 (2011) Ethernet problems

Hi all! I bought my laptop 3 months ago. almost immediately there was a problem with the Ethernet. The essence is this: after 2-3 hours it stops working. That is, as if the cord is not plugged in. I upgraded my operation system to 10.7.2 but the problem remains.

    hi -zieg-
This is my recommendation for your consideration
Also have 3 mo. old MBP (17")
Had ,very briefly, same problem: reinstalled Lion... and problem vanished.
Please remember to do backup B4  any major system change. if you choose to do this: I have time capsule. This would be,of course, a solution albeit time consuming....
    Let 'er rip and ...

  • Help with ethernet problems

    Can anyone help with this?
Have a black powerbook, snow leopard, safari. No problems at all with wireless/ethernet at home
When at work, usually just unplug ethernet from work PC and once plugged into mac, it automatically detects internet connection just like that
For some reason, tonight, when I try this have no connection (an exclamation mark over the airport icon) and when I go into network in sys pref, says "self assigned ip address"
If I switch to DHCP manually, can input ip address from PC and it works fine but whenever i try and switch to automatic, it wont work
Have spent ages looking through the internet to try and find answer - firewall is off, no recent changes to software/hardware, flushed ipfw, etc
    Any bright ideas?
    Thanks a lot

I am a bit confused by your post. Are you trying to connect to your network wirelessly using the AirPort card, or are you trying to use a wired connection via your Ethernet port?
What is the source of your Internet connection? DSL? Cable modem? Something else?
Are you connected to a router? What make and model?
    Best of luck.

  • Macbook ethernet problem

A few days ago my ethernet socket started misbehaving. After plugging in the cable, if I pushed the plug gently to the right of the socket it worked fine, but release the pressure and it stopped working. Looking at the Network preferences, it's clear - push to the right and a green light appears against Ethernet, release and the green light goes grey. Now it's stopped working completely.
So it seems like a hardware problem, or at least some physical problem with the socket. But I don't understand what could have caused it. It's been working fine for 4 months, I haven't dropped it and there's no physical damage. The socket looks fine, the pins are straight, the 4 metal bits in the socket are in place (2 at the top, 2 at the sides) and the cable locks in place OK. I've tried different cables and connecting to different sockets as well. The only thing I've been doing is plugging and unplugging the cable every day.
Any suggestions, or do I have to take it to an Apple Store for repair?
    Thanks

I would suggest taking it in for repair. Hopefully you're still under warranty. The constant plugging and unplugging could have caused something to happen to the socket.

  • Ethernet Problem

    Hi.
I have a 800 Mhz iMac flat panel that has had a ethernet port issues for a few years, but I have been using the Airport with no problem. I now have faster Internet and would like to connect it via Ethernet, but have not been able to do so.
I ran the network diagnostics and it did not work. I have attempted to reset the PRAM and NVRAM to no avail. Are there any other options I am forgetting? Do I simply have a broken port? How fast is a USB/Ethernet adapter? Is it quicker than the first generation airport?
    Thanks for your time.

    Hello,
Very few home Internet connections are faster than even the oldest Airport cards. The original Airport card is 11Mbps, USB1.1 is 12Mbps, Ethernet (in these iMacs) is 100Mbps. Most ISPs in the UK only offer "Up to 8Mbps" and this will be shared between your iMac and MB.

  • IMac DualCore with Ethernet problem

    Hi,
today I received my new iMac Dualcore 17". But after installing I suddenly realized that the ethernet port is not working. I plugged in my DSL-cable and nothing happend. The modem is working fine with my older Mac. Apple Support Chat advised me to reset both the PRAM and SUM, but unfortunately with no success.
Does anyone of you have a clue what to do? I'm not very keen on sending my new iMac back to Apple and waiting another couple of weeks before they get it fixed.
Thanks in advance to any reply!
    Cheers,

Do you have any details s to the problems you
experienced with the Cisco Switches? I also have a
Cisco VoIP system in place and I keep getting kicked
off the network when connected through the phones.
Did you just plug the computer into the wall and
disable all the 802.11q trunking on that port? If
so I think I may have another jack close by that can
be set up for this specific computer.
Correct. 802.1Q trunking is specifically what the Ethernet interfaces on apparently all Intel-based Macs to date are having troubles with. In other words, disable the aux VLAN on a switch port, and the Intel-based Mac's Ethernet will work on that port. (Obviously this suggestion assumes you have netadmin privileges over your switch!)
It concerns me that no software update has yet been released for this problem. One would think if it were simply a driver issue, an updated driver would have already been released. Thus, one might be lead to believe that the problem goes deeper than software.

  • IBM Thinkpad T41 - Display Problems

    Hi,
I am new to this forum and have had a quick search and could not find the answer to my problem.
I support a customer who has an IBM T/P T41 laptop, type 2373.  The customer is a 6 hour round trip away, so the details posted are what he has given me off the back of the laptop.
    The problem:
The display on the laptop (or external TFT) when either docked or undocked keep going blank, when being used or idle.
The user has to hold the power button to shut down the laptop and restart it.
The problem is very intermittent and has no real pattern.
    Any advice welcome.
I am more than happy to replace parts but would need a part number first, so I could try and order it.
    Thanks
    Pete

    Hello,
please try a linux live cd, like Knoppix or Ubuntu. Burn it to disc and boot with it.
When the problem reappears you unfortunately have to replace the mobo,
cause of connectivity problems with the bad soldered gpu.
The phanomenon is called flexing, the cause is moving your TP with open lid and with just one
hand holding it at only one edge.

  • Built in ethernet problem

I have a two week old MBP that I migrated all files from my previous PB G4. I use a wireless network at home and plug into a routed DSL ethernet network at work. The new MBP worked perfectly at my office (as did my PB G4 for years) until two days ago. Without having made any changes on MBP, the network connection could not be recognized.
This is the message diplayed in the network status window when I try to connect at my office:
Built in Ethernet is currently active. built in ethernet has a self assigned ip address and may not be able to connect to the internet
Other computers (mainly PC's) are all still running fine on the network). I did all the usually troubleshooting of wires, router and modem. I called Apple and went through the usual - reset PRAM, delete all network prefs and start from scratch with network setup - new location and all. No fix, so Apple tech told me to try to exchange it for a new one ("probably a hardware issue").
I took it back to CompUSA and the technician plugged into their ethernet, and all worked fine. They thought I was crazy.
Why would built in ethernet work initially on the office network, then quit working, but still work on other ethernet networks and wireless?
I found this previous post that seems to describe my exact problem and I see no real solution posted ---->

    Please help...

I radically re-installed my entire system back to factory fresh and the problem was fixed. After working great for two days, it happened again. Computer does not recognize that ethernet is plugged in. I'm beginning to think that the computer screws something up when it goes to sleep. Come to think of it, the problem has occured after waking from sleep while plugged in to my office ethernet. A possible work-around is to not allow the computer to sleep while plugged in to ethernet... I wish there was a fix. Maybe system 10.5 will be the answer.

  • Misled by Diagnostic help from Mac OS when having an ethernet-problem

I just solved a nasty problem that took me almost a day and that was caused by a wrong message from OS (10.4.5).
    What happened:
Along with the move of my mac mini to another room in the house, I had to redirect the ethernet-cable for my adsl.
After doing this I connected my computer and adsl worked fine. The next day however, my adsl-connection had gone! I assumed it were the cables or the connectors that had not been properly fixed and might have been set loose due to some moving of furniture after the initial fixing. I checked the fixings, replaced the R-45 connector and took off a piece of cable that looked (just a tiny bit) damaged. But after all this, the connection still wasn't there.
Now, there is a diagnostic help that appears in the Safari-browser when you don't have a connection. This diagnostic help issued the message that the 'ethernet-cable is not connected'. It stunned me, because all connections seemed well by now.
Then, I took my computer and hooked it onto another cable in the house that I knew was working well: same thing! No connection. After that I realised my OS had fooled me. It was not the cable, nor the connectors, it was a wrong message from diagnostic help! I ran network configuration assistant and the thing worked in 2 minutes. So I wasted hours on messing with cables and 13 euros on a connector, because of a faulty message.
Is there a moderator that can explain why this has happened as it did? maybe something to fix in an upgrade?
    mac mini 1,42/1GB   Mac OS X (10.4.5)

Sounds like a bad preference file. Move the com.apple.installer.plist file out of /username/Library/Preferences/ to your Desktop. Now, mount the image. If that works, problem solved. If not, create a new admin user account, log into it, and try to mount the image. If it works, then you'll have to resolve the conflict within the original account. Report back with the results.
