T41 Factory Partition and other Access IBM recovery

Hi,
I am using T41 2373 , 1 year back I reformatted C-drive and installed the windows Xp from CD  from scratch, Now the Access IBM button does not work. I think i merged the factory partition as well .
Is there still a possiblity of recovering the factory partition , where we dont need CD for fresh installation and for drivers.
thanks

  • I have ipad mini 2 updated to ios 7.1.2.  Now ipad keeps shutting down and rebooting to the apple logo. I factory reset and redownloaded software in recovery mode.  Still happening.  What else can I do?

I have ipad mini 32gb.  I updated to IOS 7.1.2. Since then ipad keeps shutting down and rebooting to the apple logo.  It happens so many times I cannot use the ipad.   I have tried factory reset and reinstalled software in recovery mode. Ipad is only 1 1/2 years old and in great condition.  Is there anything else I can do besides soend $200 to fix it?

Sounds like a hardware issue to me going by the CRC error you mentioned. I'd make a Genius Bar reservation (you'll need your Apple ID) if you have a nearby Apple Store and get it evaluated. The evaluation is free but repair/replacement could incur other charges.

  • Parallel runs slow on Boot Camp partition and other questions...

    Hi all,
I have had my MBP santa rosa for about 3 weeks. I love it. Everything is super fast and responsive on this thingy. I have parallel running on Boot Camp partition and it is slow. I mean its not awfully slow but when I click start (the play button of Parallel), I see the spinning beachball for 0.5 to 1 min. When I get to Windows XP or Vista (I tried both of them), there is no way parallel could perform up to "near native" speed, I get a lot of sand-clock and it takes 1 mins or so to boot up MS SQL server 2005. When i tried to open lots of windows at once, it freezes for a while then all the windows pop up. I dedicated 1gb of ram for parallel. I am thinking of removing boot camp and use parallel virtual drive on which to install windows. Would that make the performance any better?
I have another question. I bought Disk Warrior 4 but my lovely cousin broke the disc into half coz he thought it was a cheap toy. Is there anyway I can make another bootable CD for disk warrior? I know BootCD only works on Panther. Can I use SuperDuper to clone my MBP and put the image file on a PC-formated external hard drive to bootup from there to run Disk Warrior?
Thank you so much for your help. I gotta say this MBP is the best laptop I have ever used in my entire life. VEry happy with the purchase so far. Thank you Apple.
    MacNo0b
p/s: Any recommendation on how to keep the Mac running well without slowing down? Cheers

I have to say, I have never used Parallels in a system with 2GB. I don't feel that it's worth it given Boot Camp is available. That said, if you run nothing else it should run quite happily.
If you're having problems getting through the installation try setting it up with a virtual environment that has no drive. That way you should be able to get through the installation/setup and then you can add your Boot Camp partition after that.
As for transferring files, I will either use Parallels folder sharing else a 1GB DOS formatted USB flash drive.
PS You're right, I certainly can't complain about the equipment I get to play with. I've had to fork out quite a bit of money for the privilege but it's all been worth it.

  • [SOLVED] Install arch on a partition and still access files on other

Basicaly what i want to achieve is to have a dual boot system on my laptop where i can access the files in some sort of shared storage or just to be able to access my windows files when im booted up in arch is there a way to achieve this?
    Last edited by icyfox101 (2013-05-25 13:00:19)

Yes you can, you could have a partition for each OS, and then you could have a third partition for your shared files (I think it would have to be ntfs for the shared partition)
Or you could just mount the windows partition from arch.

    Hi:
Click on the link below and then click on the link labeled Order Recovery Media.
    http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/softwareCategory?os=2100&lc=en&cc=us&dlc=en&sw_lang=&product=3979...
If the link doesn't work (most of them don't), just call HP and order by phone at either 800-474-6836 or 888-999-4747.
If for some reason, HP no longer has them, you can get them from this vendor for $27 + shipping.

  • Factory reset and a minimized image recovery

    Has anybody tried this?
I am considering doing a factory reset to restore my computer to the original, and...... then..... doing a minimized image recovery to remove all the trial applications and games software on C drive.
What else will I loose doing the minimized image recovery besides the trial applications software?
How about the programs (Cyber...etc.) that were included for the Blue ray drive..play and record that aren't trials.
Just what exactly  are the trial applications ?
Any discussion or remarks on this ?
This laptop has 2 hard drives, C and D. HP's Dv7 Pavilion. Windows Home premium 64 bit O.S.
    Thanks

    Thanks saturnwings,
My reasoning for the factory reset following with a MIR is because I have 2 physically separate hard drives installed in the laptop. Looking back, I probably should have done this when I first got it.
I did finally get a response from HP stating the only thing removed by doing a MIR was the games. They had no clue what was originally on the computer even with the ser.# ( software dejour?). I might want to take this with a bit of caution (my thought).
If I was only to do the MIR only affecting my C drive with the OS, to completely? remove the games,  it would leave my D drive intact (I have 2 separate hard drives).
I loaded (installed) as many programs on to the second hard drive as I could because the C drive isn't that big. Because of this, I was worried about lingering problems, thinking  I might need to reinstall programs to regain the links to the start menu.
I'm still trying to learn how to get these programs to the start menu if I was to leave the D drive intact (MIR). I am assuming there is a way?.
What I want is a setup where my computer is free of the games, and trial software, but with the programs I have installed and the data and documents I have from these programs.
Probably the easiest way is a new install of windows and wipe the slate clean, costing me $100 +/-, but I'd loose HP drivers, etc. which I've found aren't that easy to replace.
I am leaning toward a complete factory reset, MIR to remove what bloatware I can, followed by "uninstall software" from controll panel to get rid of what I haven't used in a year with a reinstall of my prefered programs and documents but I'm still looking for other suggestions or experiences.

  • IBM Recovery Program

    Hello,
I recently installed a copy for Windows 7 Ultimate 64 bit onto my T61.  Prior to this OS, my T61 came with Windows XP Professional.  When installing Windows 7 Ultimate, I did a custom install and erased everything I had.  When I received my laptop, it didn't come with a recovery CD as my recovery image is in a hidden partition on the hard drive.  If I needed to recover the system image it could be accessed at startup by pressing F11 or by using Think Vantage.  I tried doing both these things and there were no options that allowed me to begin the recovery program.  The document that came with the packaging also told me to shutdown and boot my laptop and when "Windows Boot Manager" (I'm not sure what they mean by that) hold the down arrow key and select the IBM Recovery Program and begin the recovery.  I don't understand what's wrong.  Please let me know.  You're time is greatly appreciated.  Thanks.

I recently attempted to create the recovery media and discovered a number of corrupt and missing files in the recovery partition.  Contacted Lenovo customer service and after explaining the situation to them, they sent me a DVD set at no charge!  Give them a call.

  • Accessing IBM AIX jfs volumes in MacOS X

Nerdy question... We had one last old and ancient IBM RS/6000 server, now defunct, whose motherboard went kaput recently, and we would like to retrieve as much user data as possible. Having extracted the HDDs, which were SCSI-3, using adapters, cables and whatnot we can connect them either to a MBP or a MP running 10.5.2. However, these HDD's (2) are partitioned and formatted in IBM's own jfs (journalled file system) format. Is there any way to read these disks on MacOS X?

I don't think so. Probably the easiest thing to do would be to attach the disks to a linux box, mount them there, then export the data via SMB or NFS to the Mac...

My LG Optimus Zone is having software issues and I can't access the Recovery Menu for a Factory Reset. It was working fine until I went to activate it and update the PRL. It turns on, but Freezes on the LG Logo. it currently goes into the LG Download Mode, and When I restore with LG's Mobile Support Tool, It finishes, reboots, and stays at the boot Logo. I was wondering if I can possibly get a replacement phone? This is a little upsetting, as i was hoping to have it transfered from prepaid to postpaid service next month

Run Disk Utility located in /Applications/Utilities before trying to upgrade to Lion in case the startup disk needs repairing.

    Ohh thanks guys!
It worked as a charm, and thanks Brisbin33 for the autostart.sh tip.
So the thing that caused my whole system not to work as it should was that I forgot to put a "&" after conky?
haha that´s kinda anoying I have been sitting and looking through like a milllion files looking for the answer
    But again, really thanks!
    /Neuwerld
that little "&" sends the conky process to the background freeing up the current process (your autostart.sh script) to finish doing what it's doing so you can move on to running openbox itself.  with this in mind, it should be obvious why keeping conky in the foreground would cause problems.
also, replacing it with (sleep 1 && conky) & means... wait a second, when that's done successfully (&&) run conky, and put all of that () to the background.  that way openbox comes up immediatly and only a second later you've got your panel and monitor.
all this after .xinitrc and before openbox

  • T42p + Access IBM - my mouse fails-only use TAB and arrows? XP desktop

Suppose to be like day one here, my Thinkpad T42p but when I press the BLUE button or the Access IBM Icon
my mouse fails-I can only use TAB and arrows and I am NOT in the post bios, I am in the XP desktop.
I uninstalled and reinstalled it, but no help, same with USB mouse, same with touchpad and same with the red
pointer button mouse.I was almost SURE that the other Thinkpads, same models, would have mouse ability.
How do I fix this mess? What happened ? Help !! Have you tried to use that tool with no mouse ? Aggggggh !

Download a Parted Magic CD ISO-file and burn it on a CD-ROM.
Boot from CD-ROM and run the partition tool.
Left-click the 1st Partition, select "Manage flags" and mark "boot".
Reboot the computer after removing the CD-ROM.
To remove the drivers and tools use "Start"- "Programs " - "Access IBM" - "Program for installing/removal of ThinkPad-Software" (or similar - i only know the german terms). - Later Thinkpads used the "Software Installer"
At the beginning of this year i had set up one of my R51 with the recovery CDs and ran all Windows Updates. - Everything worked fine then.
Just for fun and to learn the effects concerning the system stability, i installed Thinkvantage System Update and updated all drivers and Tools. Some updates didn't work.
    Result:
    - lower performance
    - wireless didn't work anymore
    - sometimes a blue screen running R&R
After that i recoverd the R51 again and removed all Access IBM tools and drivers with the "Program for installing/removal of ThinkPad-Software". Running TVSU then lead to a better result but not very satisfying.
The differences of the old driver and tools - versions to the newest is too big. A lot of registry entries and many files will be kept after removing the old drivers and Access IBM -  tools.
The best result you will get using one of the following ways:
recover from CD/R&R-partition and keep all TVT drivers and tools
do a clean install from a Windows CD and install drivers and software after running all Windows Updates (only 1 GBit ethernet or wireless Lan- driver installed) and then use System Update or manual install

  • Hard Drive Partitions and Factory Reset

    Hello,
I bought my HP Pavilion g-series and I used it for a while, then I decided to install Ubuntu as well as I want to do some programming. I partitioned my Harddrive and I made a mistake, and the Harddrive is now labelled as "Simple Volume".
I want to change the Partitions back to "Primary Partions". I tried to do a sytem recovery from the HP recovery partition, but the option is deactivated.
Also, I want to partition my Hard drive into so that I will have 100GB reserved for Windows 7 and the remaining 650GB for my files and documents so that I can access them from my Ubuntu as well.
If there is a way to change the Partitions back to Primary Partitions and also to safely partion it again, I will be relieved to hear it and implement it.
    Thank you

  • HT203163 I am not able to access to iphone updates/store; as secure link to itunes store failed. I tried to turn firewall off, reinstall itunes and other troubleshoot options but none of them works.....

I am not able to access to iphone updates/store; it displays the message under diagnostics 'secure link to itunes store failed'.
I tried to turn firewall off, reinstall itunes and other troubleshoot options but none of them works......
    Please help.

Update:  I tried the "Toshiba Recovery Wizard" after everything else either fizzled out or hung up. After going all the way thru the recovery process (up to 100%), I finally got an error message.....it didn't work. And now, when I fire up the computer, I don't even get to that menu with the recovery options....the only thing I can boot into is the screens with the various ways to run your OS (in "safe mode", "safe mode with networking", etc).
I'm not a techie, but I'm guessing at this point, the part of my hard drive that got damaged in the fall was, at the very least, the partition with the recovery data. Couple that with the fact that this cheapo Toshiba laptop didn't even come with recovery disk (or ANY kind of disk, even basic installation software!), I'm screwed: I don't see any way to get a workable computer now without some kind of disk to boot from. So NOW my concern is more about spending the $$ for a new OS and THEN finding out the hard drive has other problems too...is broken in some other way to boot.
How to check this? As I said, I did run "chkdsk" back when I could get into the recovery menu and run the fix-it programs. It didn't note any problems. Thinking of taking this opportunity to upgrade to Windows 7 from Vista (which I never liked), but I have to know that the computer is otherwise ok....how to be sure?

  • Missing Recovery Partition and Unrecognized File Systems

So, a long time ago I accidentally deleted my recovery partition and have recently been trying to fix it so that I can upgrade my OS to Mavericks. After browsing around here I found the Recovery Partition Creator 3.7 and used it to create a new recovery partition. Using the diskutil list command everything seemed to be fine and it looked like the partition was successfully created so I tried reinstalling OS X Lion by holding command R at startup. Doing so brought up the internet recovery menu and I selected reinstall Lion which was still unsuccessful because "a recovery partition could not be created". So, I decided to check in disk utility to see what might be wrong and I used the disk utility debug command in order to access disk utility's debug menu and show all the hidden partitions. Now, looking at these partitions I see two hidden partitions: disk0s1 which is an EFI partition, and disk0s3 which is the Apple Boot Partition that was created by Recovery Partition Creator 3.7. After verifying the partitions, disk utility is telling me that both my EFI and apple boot partitions have unrecognized file systems, my Macintosh HD partition is fine. At this point I do not know what to do.
Below are photos of the diskutil list and of what disk utility is showing me for the two hidden partitions.
For reference I am running OSX Lion 10.7.5 (11G63) on a early 2011 13 inch Macbook Pro (Base Model).
    Bootrom version: MBP81.0047.B27
    SMC Version: 1.68f99
Thank you all in advance for your help, feel free to ask me any questions.

Just an update, I went ahead and installed Lion again over the existing TM restored installation using the Lion Update file and at least File Vault is working. Interestingly, I still do not have a Recover partition so obviously something new for Apple Support to learn.
