T430s - [Solved?] Wireless hardware is not bound to transport driver (Centrino 6205, Win7x64)

Hello,
after clean install of my new T430s using System Update everything worked quite well, except for terrible DPC latency when loading web pages (crapping sound). Therefore I changed LAN driver to 11.10.84.0 from Lenovo (83rw15ww) and latencies went down (this driver has been recommended in some online forum).
Few days later I was on WiFi and latency spiked up again, but this time all the time above 8000µs - even when idle. I started to play with devices in Device Manager and ultimately reinstalled WiFi driver to Lenovo's 15.6.1, then Intel's 15.8.0. The most recommended driver from HP I was unable to install, so no harm there
Not sure when, but somewhere since this point I don't see wireless networks any more. Driver is fine (no yellow ? or !), wireless card is fine (replaced by spare one from my "HW guy"), all drivers has been reinstalled MANY times. When I try to add WLAN manually, Win7 says "Unexpected Error". Diagnostic tool from Intel says "Wireless hardware is not bound to transport driver". In Fn+F5 I see WiFi as off and I can't turn it on (unlike Bluetooth, which works well). Windows Diagnostics says there's an issue with a driver (sorry if I don't use exact words, my Win7 is not EN). I don't see this card anywhere in "ipconfig". There's no difference in diagnostics whether the wireless switch is on or off.
I read almost everything I was able to google about similar issues. I tried various drivers from both Lenovo (manual download from Lenovo website as well as using System Update) and Intel, both with and without Access Connections. I tried to remove the device from Device Manager and let Windows to find it again. I reinstalled LAN driver, tried to update BIOS (was already updated), tried to reset various stuff using "netsh" command, deleted Intel/Wireless dir in [username]/AppData, all this with/without reboots in between. Tried to play with card settings (in Device Manager), with power settings (both Windows and Power Manager), with on/off switch on a side of the laptop. I tried System Restore, which ended by error for all meaningful points. Nothing. All this on 3 different WLAN networks (2.4 GHz).
My last thought is to reinstall Windows from scratch, but it takes me at least 2 whole days to set everything up as I use a boatload of different work stuff for different customers.
My current WiFi driver, according to Driver tab in Device Manager for Intel Centrino Advanced-N 6205, is 15.4.1.1 from January 23, 2013 (thru System Update). The more current one from Intel is 15.7.0.3 from April 18, 2013.
Thank you in advance for any suggestions, tips or help.
EDIT
Just for the heck of it I switched wireless ON at home and suddenly my home WiFi network appeared in Win7 WiFi management (no AC). The last driver I installed was thru System Update, twice. Never restarted immediately, always after a while.
So I ran System Update again and it offered me available driver for WiFi (again!) and Access Connections. The online utility from Intel also offered me available drivers. I still have WiFi driver 15.4.1.1 (23.1.2013). To be honest I'm little affraid to update one or the other, as I did it so MANY times in past 30 hours with no effect.
The only difference I noticed is a new wireless device was available - Microsoft Virtual WiFi Miniport Adapter. It may be because of my Checkpoint Endpoint Security VPN software, but last time I saw this adapter was just before I lost all the wireless networks.
As much as I'm relieved it's working again, as a programmer I'm not happy about it, because I don't know WHY it's working now, when I didn't do anything for it since my last try. I only kept the wireless switch off for a fair amount of time.
Oh, and DPC latency stays below 300µs (up to 500µs is OK).

hey smarmytime,
let me get this right
laptop+router+modem (via cable) = connection working fine
laptop+modem (via cable) = connection goes wonky
laptop+wireless = works halfway then poofs
The wireless of yours comes from a Router+Wifi or is it coming from a Modem+Wifi set ?
If it's coming from a Modem+Wifi set, then try the following.
1- turn off wireless
2- reset modem to factory setting (make sure wireless is off)
3- key in the necessary info to make a connection.
4. switch wifi off on laptop
5. connect laptop to modem via cable.
Does it connect ? Does it go poof halfway?
After that, turn on the wireless for both modem and laptop, try connecting again. Does it connect ? Does it go poof halfway?

  • [SOLVED] Wireless auto-connect not working

    Hi!
I'm really new to Linux in general, so I've spent a few hours trying to figure this out (searching the forums, etc) but haven't had any success.
When I first installed Arch, everything seemed to work fine. It would automatically connect to my home wireless (after enabling net-auto-wireless in sytemctl). I went to a local library, and connected to their wifi. After rebooting at the library I noticed that it didn't connect automatically to the library network. I wasn't sure if I had done something wrong or if I had just failed to set something up... but then it also would not automatically connect at home now.
I have to use wifi-menu every time I reboot. I ran systemctl and saw this:
    systemctl failed list:
    UNIT LOAD ACTIVE SUB DESCRIPTION
net-auto-wireless.service loaded failed failed Provides automatic netcfg wireless connection
netcfg.service loaded failed failed Netcfg multi-profile daemon
LOAD = Reflects whether the unit definition was properly loaded.

SUB = The low-level unit activation state, values depend on unit type.
2 loaded units listed. Pass --all to see loaded but inactive units, too.
To show all installed unit files use 'systemctl list-unit-files'.

bohoomil wrote:Seems like your config file(s) is corrupted somehow... Assuming you have a default netcfg profile to be loaded at system startup, what happens if you try and load it manually? Do you get similar error messages?
Everything should be pretty standard. All I've done is follow instructions in the (complete) beginners guide.
I haven't added any default profiles... so I'm not sure about my default profile. There's a "wlan0-" entry in addition to the library network and home network profiles... but it's empty.
    When I use
    netcfg wlan0-
it says WPA Authentication/Association failed... but it's an empty profile so I wouldn't expect it to do anything.
My local network is BELL369. When I used
    netcfg wlan0-BELL369
it gave no errors and my wireless worked fine.
If the configuration files are corrupted, how would I replace them?
This is the contents of my netcfg conf file:
    # Enable these netcfg profiles at boot time.
    # - prefix an entry with a '@' to background its startup
    # - set to 'last' to restore the profiles running at the last shutdown
    # - set to 'menu' to present a menu (requires the dialog package)
    # Network profiles are found in /etc/network.d
    NETWORKS=(last)
    # Specify the name of your wired interface for net-auto-wired
    WIRED_INTERFACE="eth0"
    # Specify the name of your wireless interface for net-auto-wireless
    WIRELESS_INTERFACE="wlan0"
    # Array of profiles that may be started by net-auto-wireless.
    # When not specified, all wireless profiles are considered.
    #AUTO_PROFILES=("profile1" "profile2")

  • [Solved] Wireless Networking Randomly Not Working

Note: My network card is an Atheros AR9285 PCI-E Adapter. ath9k driver and wicd
Apologies in advance, I'm relatively new to Linux as a whole. With the recent pacman 4 update, my entire system has been somewhat out of whack. I've been unable to figure out how to get it to properly sign keys and update packages, but that's another story entirely. At least my wireless connection still functioned when that was the problem.
I booted my laptop up today and it was suddenly unable to connect to my wireless network. I checked the network to make sure that it was running properly (it is), so came back to the laptop. It said that it was unable to acquire an IP address.
Various googling via my windows box led me to various suggested fixes including restarting wicd and wiping the .conf files, starting from scratch. All that accomplished was making the network hidden, and I'm afraid I've no idea as to how I probed it to show the SSID in the first place.
Again, I'm very sorry, but this is extremely vexing for me, and I'm quite overcome by frustration at the moment. Everything was working fantastically until this pacman update, and now my laptop is good for very little.

Had to create a new wpa_supplicant to get your second set of directions to work, but work it eventually did. The output of dhcpcd looked a little something like this:

  • [SOLVED] Wireless configuration: firmware not loaded?

    Dear all,
I would like to configure my Wifi schede in my Arch installation.
I started following the guide in the wiki (https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Wi … figuration)
but I get to a point where I have an error but don't know how to proceed.
    Following the guide I did:
    lspci -k
02:00.0 Network controller: Qualcomm Atheros AR9485 Wireless Network Adapter (rev 01)
Subsystem: Samsung Electronics Co Ltd Device 4105
    Kernel driver in use: ath9k
    Kernel modules: ath9k
So that it seems that the driver for my card is installed and in use.
    Next I did:
    ip link
1: lo: <LOOPBACK,UP,LOWER_UP> mtu 65536 qdisc noqueue state UNKNOWN mode DEFAULT group default
    link/loopback 00:00:00:00:00:00 brd 00:00:00:00:00:00
2: enp1s0: <NO-CARRIER,BROADCAST,MULTICAST,UP> mtu 1500 qdisc pfifo_fast state DOWN mode DEFAULT group default qlen 1000
    link/ether 20:89:84:0f:7d:91 brd ff:ff:ff:ff:ff:ff
3: wlp2s0: <NO-CARRIER,BROADCAST,MULTICAST,UP> mtu 1500 qdisc mq state DOWN mode DEFAULT group default qlen 1000
    link/ether 50:b7:c3:24:85:c1 brd ff:ff:ff:ff:ff:ff
From the output I deduce that wlp2s0 is the name of my interface, so I try to turn on the interface:
    ip link set wlp2s0 up
    ##NO OUTPUT IS DISPLAYED##
    Next I do:
    dmesg | grep firmware
[ 11.882857] platform microcode: Direct firmware load failed with error -2
[ 12.143983] platform microcode: Direct firmware load failed with error -2
[ 12.148247] platform microcode: Direct firmware load failed with error -2
[ 12.148586] platform microcode: Direct firmware load failed with error -2
    dmesg | grep ath9k
[ 1781.365268] Loading kernel module for a network device with CAP_SYS_MODULE (deprecated). Use CAP_NET_ADMIN and alias netdev-ath9k instead.
I have no idea what I have to do at this point. How do I enable my wifi card and manage my network (possibly with some graphic tools for my MATE desktop)
Thanks a lot in advance for the help!
    Cheers,
    Luca

Hi, I managed to use my wifi using NetworkManager.
In the wiki it says that I have to be sure no other service that wants to configure the network is running.

  • [SOLVED]Wireless network will not autostart

On my new install of Arch I've found that when I reach a command prompt, I have to manually setup my wireless card every time I reboot. While I was following the procedure in the beginners guide, I typed in the command for the net-auto-wireless.service, but it said that it didn't exist. Did I do something wrong during my install? May have to start over... at least now I know how to manually configure the card to get on the internet!!!
Last edited by horsemanoffaith (2013-05-22 05:26:05)

net-auto-wireless was part of the netcfg network manager, which has been deprecated in favor of netctl.  Netctl was designed from the ground up with systemd in mind, and works quite well.  Though netcfg still exists and I think is in the community repo now.
So basically you need to either check to make sure that netctl is installed, or install it.
It sounds like you are a beginner, so it may be worth installing wicd.  Since you are also apparently still at the point of setup where you don't yet have a graphical interface, you should know that wicd in our repos has been split into wicd and wicd-gtk.  The latter is the graphical interface/tray icon.  So all you need is the plain old wicd to get things going, as it includes wicd-curses, which is a ncurses based interface.
Wicd is what I used for quite some time, and it never did me wrong.  I just eventually learned that there were other alternatives out there, and I now use basically all of them depending on my mood.

After reading some posts related to USB auto-mounting in Thunar and yet still having the problem, I decided to post this. Thunar used to detect the USB drives and auto-mount them. The error looks suspiciously like one I had not so long ago and it turned out I still had an 11-media-by-label-auto-mount.rule in /etc/udev/rules.d.  Once I removed that and rebooted everything was fine again.

    Step 2: Locate to this registry HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Class\{4d36e96b-e325-11ce-BFC1-08002BE10318}
Step 3: On the left side plane, Right click on the registry {4d36e96b-e325-11ce-BFC1-08002BE10318} and then export it as backup. Just to be safe.
Step 4: Edit the UpperFilters, The value current would be kdbclass vmkbd. Remove the vmkbd. So only value left would be kbdclass.
Step 5: Restart your system and connect your USB wireless reciever. If all is well it will not freeze your windows now.
This worked for me. Hope this works for you. Enjoy..!!

  • WiFI problem: Driver is not bound succesfully...any comments how to solve?

After a system check my Wifi stopped suddenly working. I have
    - noticed that the WiFI-network object is not anymore visible in the Network Connections
    - run WLAN diagnostics with Deveice Manager ==> Tells hw OK
    - I have updated and reloaded the driver from Intel site and it went thru OK
    - after rebooting I still get the msg "driver is not bound succesfully"
    - radio is ON, many networks are available
    Any suggestions?
    Thanks in advance!

I managed to solve the problem:
    - download the latest wifi driver from Intel's support pages
    - go to device manager and uninstall the wifi-card driver
    - reboot system: XP notices that you have a new unconnected device and fixed that
Worked for me!  Have a great day.

  • Photosmart c309a- 'The wireless radio is not functioning, contact HP support'

My Photosmart c309a wont connect wirelessly. Upon running the wireless network test, the report states, and I quote "The wireless radio is not functioning. Contact HP support". The report then states the following:
    Wireless on                    PASS
    Wireless working         FAIL
and everything following that stated as 'not run'.
Ive searched for other threads on the subject, and the only sloutions I can find are unplug the printer and plug it back in to reset it (made no difference), and try the HP print and san doctor (link was dead, found it manually and didnt work as it cant connect to or even see the printer on the network).
So the question is, is this a hardware fault, and if so what can be done about it?

    Hello,
Yes, it is an hardware issue and indicates that the Wireless card is not functional.

  • Intel wireless iwl3945 does not work after kernel upgrade?

My wireless ethernet will not longer connect to access points. I am on a Toshiba Tecra M5-S4332 running kernel 2.6.39.2-1 with linux-firmware 20110512-2 installed. This problem seemed to have started once I upgraded the kernel from 2.6.39.1-1, but I have tried downgrading (back to 2.6.38) and upgrading (to 3.0-rc6) the kernel to no avail. Other possibly relevant packages that were upgraded at that system upgrade were module-init-tools (3.13-1 -> 3.16-1), mkinitcpio (0.6.14-1 -> 0.6.15-1), nvidia-utils (270.41.19-1 -> 275.09.07-1), nvidia (270.41.19-3 -> 275.09.07-1), and netcfg (2.5.5-1 -> 2.6.1-1).
    My complete dmesg output:

    EDIT: SOLVED
Solution: I feel sort of silly. I had mistaken my wifi switch for some sort of card eject/lock switch. Oh well, live and learn I suppose....
Hello I am having a similar problem. I tried to manually bring up my wireless device with the "ifconfig wlan0 up" but I get the following error:
SIOCSIFFLAGS: Operation not possible due to RF-kill
After some research I found a suggestion to install rfkill and ensure the following line was uncommented in /etc/conf.d/rfkill
    RFKILL_UNBLOCK="all"
Then add rfkill to my /etc/rc.d/conf under daemons and restart. Despite this I still get the same error when I try to run the ifconfig command.
    Here is my demsg output:

  • Wireless radio is not functioning - Photosmart c4599 All-in-one

I have had my printer connected to my home wireless network.  The printer stopped working.  When I run the wireless network test report it says "The wireless radio is not functioning.  Contact HP Support.  According to the HP web site, the printer is out of warranty.  Is there anything I can do to get the wireless working again via a hard reset or is this something a technician will need to fix?  If out of warranty, is the cost to fix really worth it?

If this message is appearing on the Front Panel of the printer, then it is an indication of a hardware problem that has developed.
It sounds like the wireless card has gone bad in the printer and this is not something that a reset would be able to address.
If the printer is out of warranty, then your best option is to replace the printer. HP Tech Support has many options available to you, such as the Upgrade program.

  • How can I get the wireless hardware fixed on my HP photosmart C7250 all in one printer?

I did the test by holding down the # 6 and it said that the wireless hardware needed service.  Any advice on where to get it serviced?  Thank you!

    Hi,
Please use the following link (under "Manage Print Apps" to cancel/remove it:

To view and manage print apps for your printer, use the display on the printer itself. This website cannot manage print apps for your printer. In this case, you have to cancel from your printer.
Please also try this (if the above mothod did not help):

Up photos mart c7100 series wireless printer does not show up as a printer. Anyone found a fix for for use with ipad3?

It sounds like the features are working through the USB connection rather than the wireless connection since it is still not seeing the networks.
Everything points to a hardware failure since the steps provided through the private message did not work and the wireless test showed it had failed.  Sorry.
You do have some options at this point.
If it is under warranty, either standard or extended, you can contact HP support at 1-800-474-6836 to have it serviced under warranty.
If it is out of warranty, you can still contact HP support to find out all the options and the cost of each option.  However, it is my opinion that this money would be better spend being applied towards a new printer.

  • Satellite A660 - Broadcom internal wireless adaptor is not working

    Hi all,
My first post to this board - I have a new Toshiba Satellite A660 notebook - have only had it for about 4 weeks and it has turned out to be a disaster for me...
FIRST - I spend weeks getting everything on and configured the way I want it - then the hard disk starts to die...
I just got it back from the Toshiba service centre and NOW the wifi has stopped working...
The internal broadcom wireless adaptor is not working - but according to windows and the built in diagnostics it IS working...
HOWEVER - when I try to use wireless with the built in adaptor it can't detect any wireless networks...
I then plug in my backup usb netgear wireless adaptor and I can pick up and connect to both of my home wireless networks...
I am going overseas in a few weeks and need to know that my notebook is going to work/be reliable and not have any more problems - if anyone can help me with this it would be much appreciated.

A further update for you all...
Okay - went back to the Toshiba service centre - the first dead hard disk was replaced by them - but the REAL problem not spotted - it looks like my laptop came out of the Toshiba factory with a faulty motherboard - this in turn has now fried the second hard drive - and now - with a new motherboard and THIRD hard drive it looks like the hardware side of things MIGHT just be solved - but NOW I still have the problem that because the motherboard has been screwed since day one (I only bought this laptop in November 2010) it has basically stuffed/corrupted all of my backups - so now the service centre is charging me 60 dollars to get a set of disks so I can re-image the system myself when I have the chance - and then spend a month putting back all the applications and configuration and data the way I had it after the first few weeks of buying it (at that stage I thought I was good to go and had the perfect new laptop and setup for work...)
So - I'm heading off overseas in a couple of weeks - my 3 year extended warranty from Australia will not be of any use to me where I am going - not covered - but am STILL hopeful that I'll get the rest of the problems sorted - still can't run the toshiba hdd protection software for more than a few days without it dying and having to be reinstalled and the toshiba pc health monitor does not work at all - when I go to install it it doesn't recognize the bios or whatever - and on top of that I'm using third party hard disk monitoring software (because the toshiba stuff doesn't work on this toshiba laptop - but the third party stuff does) - well, anyway - the third party software is telling me the hard disk has reallocated sectors count error - and there is a CAUTION showing all the time - which I guess indicates that there is now a hard drive problem with the third hard disk (?)
Anyway - if ANYONE has had a similar run of bad luck to mine with the A660/O7U - I'd really like to know...
