T510 - Device Manager showing multiple Display Adapters

I recently started experiencing a problem with a Java application locking up when moving windows from the laptop screen to an external monitor.  One of the things we discovered during troubleshooting is that I am showing 2 Display Adapters:
Intel(R) HD Graphics - running the Laptop Screen
NVIDIA NVS 3100M - running the external Screen
Is this correct?  I now also know why when using the NVIDIA Control Center it only shows the one monitor.

I'm not joking.
In BIOS (press F1 key when you see turn on the computer and see the Thinkpad screen) you can select the different graphics mode of the machine.  As you are keenly aware, the machine does have 2 graphics processors.
Under Display:
Selecting the Integrated option in BIOS shuts off the nVIDIA graphics card and uses the lower power Intel graphics 3000 on the CPU.  This limits graphics performance, but allows for longer battery operation and full CPU speed on battery.
Selecting the Discrete option in BIOS forces the system to use the nVIDIA card.  This improves graphics performance, allows you to use multiple monitors, but decreases CPU performance while using battery and reduces battery life.
Selcting Optimus allows software or the user to determine which graphics processor to use "on the fly" so that power budget and GPU performance are balanced for the workload.
Enjoy!

• K7D Master-L graphics problem: multiple display adapters/no winxp star

Hiya,
I just recently bought a new K7D Master-L and I've had a few problems with it. Other than these issues the board has been great, but this is getting pretty annoying and I can't seem to fix it, so I'm posting here for advice/help/solutions.
System Specs: I have two AthlonMP 1900+ and 786MB Corsair RAM (registered PC2100, 512MB in slot 1, 256MB in slot 2). I have a WD400JB (40GB ATA100 drive with 8MB buffer) and a generic IDE CD/DVD-ROM. I have an ATI Radeon 9700 Pro AGP card running at 4x.
When I first installed the motherboard I tried to load Windoze XP on it (actually I first used Linux but had ...driver problems). Anyway XP seemed to install fine, but upon reboot, the system would get to the "progress bar"/"OS loading" screen (the small blue bar that goes back and forth) and the bar would get stuck exactly 2 "bars" from where it started--every time. I could boot into safe mode, but nothing seemed screwy. Doign the command-line boot (I think) where it shows the drivers it is loading, it got to the "agpgart" file then stopped, maybe this was the problem. I gave up after a dozen reboots or so, trying various things, and installed Windows 2000+SP3.
Win2K installed fine, and after installing the drivers on MSI's site for northbridge, southbridge, audio, and lan, and installing ATI's latest Catalyst 3.4 drivers (I also tried 3.2), device manager had no more problems, save one.
The problem is that there are two display adapters listed: "RADEON 9700" and "RADEON 9700 (Secondary)". There were two adapters listed before I installed the drivers, called something like "Display Adapter" and "Display Adapter (VGA compatible)". In Properties it says "PCI Slot 4 (PCI bus 1, device 5, function 0)", is this normal for AGP cards? Here is a screenshot (I disabled one to see if that helped my settings-loss problem, but it doesn't):

Whats worse is that the display settings don't seem to stick around across reboots--it always reverts to the default settings of 640x480x16--which is extremely annoying. These problems exist regardless of whether I have a Service Pack installed (currently I'm running on a fresh Win2K install with no updates and having the same issues). I've tried multiple drivers for the card and no change, I've tried with/without the updated chipset drivers, and I've had this same setup work on my previous motherboard (Tyan Tiger MP) without seeing multiple display adapters.
Any ideas? Or is there something that might fix my WinXP startup freeze? If so I could reinstall WinXP and see if that has the same multiple adapter problem...
Thanks for any advice.
Josh

Well my system just booted into 640x480x16, so it appears those registry changes didn't fix the issue. The registry settings were simply changed back to 640x480x16 for some reason. I haven't reinstalled the motherboard drivers, but I gathered them all up and I'll try this later today. Here are the latest drivers I found, all from MSI's site:

We shall see if this fixes the multiple adapter problem. As far as the display settings problem, I don't know that the deal is. It works fine on other motherboards with the same hardware and drivers, so it must be something with the K7D, Windows, and ATI interaction.

P.S.: There is a bug with this forum software and apostrohpies. Every time you preview your post it inserts escape characters ("\") before apostrphies, and also inserts escape characters for these escape characters, so quickly you have something like  "\\\\\\\'" where you want "'".

• HT5628 After running bootcamp, DVD drive is detected by Windows 8. But after installing drivers, no longer can detect. Device Manager shows that DVD drive is unplugged! Drivers in Bootcamp "removed" the DVD drive!

After running bootcamp, DVD drive is detected by Windows 8. But after installing drivers, no longer can detect. Device Manager shows that DVD drive is unplugged! Drivers in Bootcamp “removed” the DVD drive. I think there is an issue because I reinstalled Windows 8. If I don't install driver, then I have reduced functionality (no Apple keyboard, no sound etc), but once I install driver, I lose my DVD drive.

Hi, guys, I have had the exact same problem since the summer of 2010. Here's what I was able to find out.
Deleting upper/lower filters, running all those Fix Ya programs and other Microsoft crap is useless. This problem is most certainly has nothing to do with registry of any software on your computer. I took my HP 9620us to a couple of repair places and, they tried a lot of things and it appears that the root of this problem is a faulty motherboard connection. Of course, it costs about 400 bucks to fix it so I'm not sure I want to pay this kind of money.
Anyway, if somebody was able to fix it PLEASE post here to let us know. Again I am 99 per cent sure it's some piece of hardware in the motherboard.

Hi Albos, This is a known problem. These superdrives die after a while. See the various threads on this site and the internet. I have the same problem with my Imac 20" 2.16 ghz. Just wants to burn and read cd's. Its has to do with the laser. For DVD an CD are two different laser and the one for DVD's has probably died in yours (as it did in mine). I bought an external LG burner and problem solved. (And a lot cheaper than replacing the superdrive)
Hope this helps you.

• Finder DEVICES list shows multiple Macintosh HDs

I've come across and interesting Finder bug where the DEVICES list shows multiple Macintosh HDs all linking to the single Macintosh HD on my MacBook:
http://pukupi.com/files/finder_bug.png
At the time I did have an old G4 connected in target mode and was zeroing it's Macintosh HD but this wasn't (and shouldn't be) in the DEVICES list at the time since zeroing was still in progress. Disk Utility doesn't suffer the same bug and shows a correct list of devices.
Relaunching the Finder doesn't fix the problem.

I've seen this error a few times.
THE SOLUTION (believe it or not): Drag the extra drive out of the list.

• Multiple Display Adapters - Why??

Hi guys,
Got me a new W520.  See something odd I don't understand...  In Device Manager, I have two Display Adapters:
Intel HD Graphics Family
NVIDIA Quadro 2000M
I am by no means a hardcore graphics user and I am not a gamer, but I added the 2000M when ordering because, well...  Why not?  Anyway, the first thing I did to this thing was rebuild it with a fresh copy of Windows 7 Pro x64.  At some point, I realized the Intel graphics were not installed and as a result, I had NO video.  So...
Why are there two graphics cards?
Why do the Intel drivers need to be operational with the NVIDIA there?
How can I even tell what is actually driving my displays??!!
Which brings me to...
This laptop is docked 80% of the time.  Connected are three 24" LCDs.  LCDs 1 & 2 are connected directly to DVI ports on the dock.  LCD 3 is connected using a Lenovo USB2DVI Adapter.
All run at 1920x1200 resolution and overall work fine, although I do sometimes detect flickering and "waviness".
I just wanna get the most out this system; graphically and otherwise.  It's running the SSD HDD and 8GB RAM, so combined with the NVIDIA, this thing should be a beast.  The NVIDIA Control Panel doesn't seem to actually have any settings I could adjust even if I should or wanted to.  And in the programs list under NVIDIA, all I have are the options to enable or disable "3D Vision".  Don't even know what that is.
So, what should I be doing here?  Anything?  Nothing?  Thanks!

• G550 Multiple Display Adapters - Why??

Hey guys
I am running a G550 64bit Windows7. When I restart the computer it boots fine till "starting windows" screen the screen then goes blank. Not dead just without video.
I run in safe mode and it boots as should. Now from her ei started to get pretty determined so I did a bunch of research and after long found myself here..
In the device manager there are two display adapters listed. Both the same "mobile Intel 4 series express chipset family"
I deleted one and rebooted no issues. Still got screen resizes and flashes periodically. And now each reboot 2nd adapter reinstalls and I am left with the same problem mentioned above
what I am asking
is this a virus? How to remove
(I cleaned the registry stopped unwanted startup autoruns malwarebytes run antivirus run Microsoft security essentials)
Thank you for your help.

Hi mynameisjd,
Thanks for posting and welcome to the Lenovo Community,
Am sorry to hear about the issue that you’re facing and I’d like to ask you if you faced this problem from a recent time?
And as I understand from your explanation that when you uninstalled the graphic driver it worked fine so I’d like to ask you to try to perform a recovery for the system to get the machine back as a brand new machine,
If you’d like to take backup from your data as all files on C: will be erased as this process will return the machine back to the initial state  if your machine came with preinstalled operating system and there is changes on the operating system nor the partitions of the HDD sizes,
And please connect the charger and the battery and then please press on the one key recovery button while the machine completely off and then see if you can windows loading files and then you will get the options for the recovery and kindly check the below link for the recovery steps:

Hope the information helps. Let us know.

Hi.
I have a Qosmio x300-15u and i have noticed in device manager it only shows 1x 9800m gts and 1x 9400m!!!
Is it right that i should have 2x 9800gts cards showing?
The spec for this machine should have 2x 9800 cards sli (whatever that means) So a total of 1GB video ram.
I'm sure im not getting the full performance of my laptop.
When i go into nvidia control panel it does not say anything about sli.
Btw; I am not running vista anymore.....
i now run windows 7 ultimate 64.
Please help me .

Are you using the Display Drivers supplied by Toshiba on the Toshiba Website? Or are you using the nVidia supplied ones?

• Graphics card installed in Pavilion p7-1210 and I can' t find it in device manager and no display.

I installed a Sapphire Radeon HD 6670 in HP p7-1210 (AMD A6-3620) and it did not show up in device manager and I get no video out of the card.  I am new at installing devices in computers so I don't know if  I did something wrong or not.  It seemed straightforward enough, plug the card into the slot and install the drivers but nothing happened.  I also installed a new Antec earthwatts 500 watt power supply at the same time, no problem.  All devices worked as before, just no video out of the Sapphire card, luckily, I still have the integrated video from the AMD processor.  What next?

look under scsi devices under the profiler.
Some SATA controllers use the same chipset as their scsi counter parts.
That is where my Acard SATA controller shows up.

• Windows Device Manager shows several driver problems

I have the latest EFI Firmware update and Boot Camp 1.1.1. Windows XP Pro SP2 shows problems in the Device Manager.
(1) What's the USB Human Interface problem? I have no funny USB devices connected.
(2) What's with the yellow question mark at Base System Device?
(3) I have four PCI Express ports flagged with problems.
I'm guessing that the Boot Camp Driver CD has omitted to provide for these devices. I am surmising that many others who have the Mac Pro also see these problems.
Is there any way of dealing with these and fixing the problems? Like, can I download the required drivers from Intel? I have already downloaded and installed INF Update Utility [INFINST_AUTO.EXE] version 2.11.15.0. This was no help in resolving the problem.

I too have had issue with Bluetooth keyboard, specifically the Apple keyboard. It seems to be running ok at the moment but it took me a while for it to pair properly. I still have no idea as to what I did differently that made it work. I think it was pairing them without a code.
Fortunately for me I use Parallels mostly as it's far more convenient so I'm not too bothered about Boot Camp driver support at this moment. When it comes time to play some games though that'll probably change.
The thing with Boot Camp is to be a little patient. Yes we'd like Apple to have sorted everything out a month ago although the software is still in beta form and does not need to be finalised until the realese of Leopard. Hopefully they will get things together sooner rather than later given the clock is ticking.

• Playbook is faling to communicate using Desktop SW but BB Device Manager Shows PB as connected

I'm running the Playbook OS 2.0.1.358 and Desktop SW 7.1.0.32 on Windows 7.  I've uninstalled and reinstalled DTSW.  I've tried 3 different USB cables.   The Blackberry Device Manager sees the playbook and shows it as connected.
It's the DTSW that says it canot "communicate" with the device.   I've tried to run the Update that it offers to install, but that fails too.
This was working a month ago.  Any ideas?  Thanks!

Already had done that.  The weird thing here is that the BB Device Manager in the system tray has no problem seeing the PB.
Also, am I missing something or is USB the only support for PB?  In the DTSW Bluetooth Configuration, it says that "this version of BB Desktop SW doesn't Support Bluetooth connections with BlackBerry Playbook tablets."
Bluetooth Bridge with my Torch is working great.

• Device manager shows device but installation CD can't find a Creative prod

Well, I suppose that the title of this thread says it all. My device manager recognizes the Creative product I have in one of the PCI slots, but when I insert the CD to install all of the programs I get an error message that reads "can't find a creative labs product on the system". Why would the computer be able to detect the device but not the CD? I've tried uninstalling and reinstalling the device but that doesn't help.
The kicker is, my sound card worked just fine two weeks ago and I've not changed anything in the system.
I did a search on this topic and other people have run into the same problem but there weren't any solutions posted. I'd really appreciate ANY help as this is a VERY frustrating problem.

this is the glitch I think I had when I installed my XFI Platinum. I followed the instructions by loading all the hardware BEFORE loading any software. So now the card and the bay are installed and I boot up. The instructions tell you to cancel installing hardware at this point. The instructions say to put the CD in and install the software. Like I usually do I do a Custom install. Incidentely it only leaves out a few software options like the Volume Panel and some other stuff I didnt feel I would want. So when I put the disk in the first of 4 items as I remember it was the XFI software which is the mode changer and panel software and more. This is where I got the message you got so I skipped to the next item to install.
I loaded the next item which was I think the media player and then I didnt load the next 2 because I didnt want them. AOl on my desktop and something else.
So I figured it may have loaded drivers at this point but not the software because the card officially was in the system yet. So I rebooted.
When it rebooted It detected the Card and a couple of other devices I think at this point.
So obviously I figured that now the software would load since the card was officially recognized. I put the CD in and selected the first option and it then loaded the XFI software.
Yea this is the one thing I found in the installation as a little confusing and not documented.
Maybe this will help you.Message Edited by Crashman on 05-25-2006 2:3 AM

• [Athlon64] Device Manager shows "Other devices: ?(!) RAID Controller"

(This was previously posted to the Operating Systems forum, when I realized it's not really a Windows problem)
In my Windows XP Device Manager, under Other devices, I see ?(!) RAID Controller.
I don't have a RAID controller, and my Serial ATA hard drives are connected to the SATA VIA ports. I've been told that this can be toggled in the BIOS. Now, this started happening after I flashed to BIOS 2.0, and the BIOS isn't exactly straight forward to me. Therefore, I'm having trouble finding that option.
Has anybody had a simliar problem? Any ideas?

=== PROBLEM RESOLVED ===
The two BIOS Default options I have are "Load High Performance Options" and "Load BIOS Setup Options". I chose "High Performance". It was somewhat a two-part procedure.
I entered the BIOS Options, and then Boot Sequence. The available options were: Floppy, CD, or BBS(0) RealTek Boot Agent, but not the Serial ATA hard drives. So I set the Sequence as 1) Floppy, 2) CD, 3) N/A, and 4) Check for other devices: Yes.
I rebooted, and it located the Serial ATA drives and proceeded to the RealTek Boot Agent anyway. I bypassed the Agent by pushing ESC. I entered Windows XP to find that, under Device Manager's SCSI & RAID Controllers, I had one entry: VIA Serial ATA RAID Controller, and no other entries. As of now, Device Manager lists a perfect hardware record.
Now to correct the Boot Sequence. I restarted and re-entered BIOS. I entered Boot Sequence again to find that my Serial ATA drives are now selectable. I changed the Sequence to 1) Floppy, 2) CD, 3) BBS(0) SATA Maxtor, and 4) Check for other devices: No.
Now my system bootup behaves as it should. No lengthy IDE device check and no RealTek boot agent check. Windows XP is also in check! :-)
This was kind of tricky. This doesn't appear to me to be a widespread problem, but I think we oughta put this in a sticky or something. I wanted to say thanks to everybody who contributed to this thread for their help! I'm going to document this fix. LOL

I have bought the Satellite L550-11K to myself and because stan it has a p8700 processor with 2.53 GHz. However, in the device manager it stands 2 times a T4200 processor with 2 GHz!!!?

Hey,
I had the same issue that the CPU in my desktop computer wasnt listed properly so I have removed the CPU from device manager (right click > uninstall) and restart the notebook. You have to remove both entries.
After restarting the CPU will be recognized again and this time it should be listed properly. For me it worked. :)
Another question, are you running the preinstalled OS or have you installed another OS?
