Tab order help

i am facing a problem with my tab order.
Suppose i place certain components on a panel let's say base panel. On the same base panel i place another panel .
I want the tab order in a way where initially the components which are out of the base panel receive focus in the order they have been initialized .
When i click on tab when the focus is on the last component the focus should move to the first component in the panel placed on base panel.
Note that i am using setLayout(null).
The problem which i face is : The components on the base panel are placed 1 below the other. The panel is placed horizontal to these components & it comes just below the 2nd component. When the focus is on the 2nd component & i click on tab the focus jumps to the first component in the panel. If i change the y value of my panel & now place it such that it comes below the 4th component then the same happens when i click on tab ..my focus being on the 4th component..
I have tried using setNextFocussableComponent but yet the tab order has remained same.
Also my requirement is such that i have to place certain components directly on base panel & thus i can't use a seperate panel for these components.
setBounds is thus playing a major role in my design. Is there a way to overcome this problem.

Hi,
maybe you should implement your own FocusTravelsalPolicy
Have a look at if you have not already done so:

  • Help, my tab order will not work? Tried to troubleshoot, no luck!

I created a form used the manual tab order and it would not work. I adjusted the hierarchy and erased all the traversal's in the XML. The tabbing order is now automatic but still out of order pretty badly. Can someone please guide me in the right direction. I really want this form to be over with.

Hope you considered following point.....When you set the Tab order you set the order starting 1 to n with in each subform. Setting taborder across the subforms is not an option at least in LC 7 and 8. However there is workaround for this, using setFocus() method.... look more in the help.
    Example: xfa.host.setFocus("xfa.form.form1.TextField1");
If you still have difficulty attach a copy of your template and explain in detail what you try to do.

  • Setting tab order to form fields contained within a table, Indesign CS6

I have created a form in ID CS6, and have put all the tabs in order so that people can easily navigate it when filling it in. However, all of the form fields that are contained within tables are not in order, and I can't find any way of putting them in order without changing them in acrobat after I have made the interactive PDF. This means that every time my client makes changes to the form I have to manually put all the fields in order again, which is time consuming. Is anyone able to help?

This tab order dialogue box is nearly useless if you have a complex form with hundreds of form fields as there is no way to interact with the document when the dialogue is open and clicking on an entry in the list does not highlight the respective field. Furthermore, if you have arrays of radio buttons, or check boxes acting like radio buttons, ie all with the same form field name, there's no way to know which order they should be arranged in since they can't be selected or identified while this dialogue is open!
That is immensely frustrating to say the least.
It's quite ridiculous that Adobe hasn't fixed this bug in years and this user interface is shockingly bad.

  • How can I set the tab order of text box controls on each page of a tab control?

I need to be able to select the tabbing order of individual controls on a single page of a tabbed control. How??

In LV 6.1 an up you should be ablel to right click on the edge of the tab control when the tab-page in question is selected.
The bttom selcetion in the pop-up is "Reoder controls in page..."
selecting this option will switch editing modes to allow you to specify the ored, just like in a cluster.
I seem to remeber in older versions you had to drag the tabable controls off the tab control, specify the tabbing oder and then drag them back on. The oldest version I have on this machine is 6.1 so that all I can speak for at the moment.
    I hope this helps,

  • Setting tab order/reading order of a form.

I have created a survey with fillable form fields and saved as a PDF. When I tab through the form to fill it out many of the radio buttons get skipped. Also, when using VoiceOver to read the form it does not read the form fields in the correct order, however it does read the text correctly. I have used the Order tab to set the tab order of the form fields but this does not appear to make any difference. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks for your reply!  Based on your suggestion I did a little experimenting.
This is a form saved to Enable User Rights so PDF viewers can fill out and email or save the form.   After seeing your question, I opened the form for editing (actually saving a copy first that was not restricted, and editing the copy).  I then toggled the Tab Numbers on via Tools > under the Forms header I clicked Edit > Other Tasks > Edit Fields > Show Tab Numbers.  After revealing the tab numbers I then tried to save the form as a Reader Extended PDF, but the Enable Additional Features option was grayed out.  Even if I wanted to, I could not save the form with the tab numbers revealed.
The form itself was also received by our company electronically and when viewed does not show the tab number order and when we print it, it prints as expected (no tab order numbers).
We are suspecting that this may be an issue either with the end users printer? Or possibly viewing and printing via an alternate viewer like Foxit?
Anybody run across this odd behavior?

  • Unable to set the tab order in a form I am creating

    Hello,
I have a form that I created a bunch of fields for. I did make some of the fields out of order, but was not concerned as I figured I would set the tab order as I have in the past.
However, for this set of fields, not mater what I do, and how many times I try to set the tab order manually, it skips over a bunch of fields. Even if I try to let acrobat automatically set the tab order, it still doesn't work.
These fields have been made from scratch as well as, copy and pasted to make sure their properties were all the same, other than a unique name. I can't figure this one out.
Has anyone ever had this happen to them before?
    thanks!!

    Hi everyone...thanks!!
I did check the read only issue first, and that wasn't it... and I made sure they were just text fields and never started out as radio buttons...
At one poin,t a bad param error popped up..... ah ha!!
So, I exported the file back to postscript (deleting all the fields first)
and then made new ones and it worked fine...
Must have been a corrupted file ;-)
    Thanks for the help!!!!

  • Complete loss of tab order in form

I received a MS Word document (2003) that I opened in my MS Word 2010 and saved as a .pdf document.  I then opened the .pdf file in Acrobat Pro v 9.4.7 and used the Forms tools to create a fillable form.  My tab order shows exactly as I want it to perform.  I close the form.
I can open this form on my computer - using BOTH Adobe Acrobat Pro AND Adobe Reader 9 (v 9.4.7 also) and the form performs exactly as I intend it to.
However, when I have it tested by coworkers, the form tabbing does NOT perform as intended.  They are using Adobe Acrobat Pro v 8.1.3 and Acrobat Reader v 9.0.0.
Can anyone help me figure out why this is happening and how I can fix it?  Myself and one of our developers have spent hours on this and cannot even get to the root of the problem, let alone resolve the issue.
    Thanks!
    Susan

George, once again you have saved me much additional grief!!  Changing the order to "row order" instead of "manual order" was all it took...although I still don't understand why the end users tabbing order did not match what I could see in the development software.  (Perhaps that information would be a bit too much of a Christmas miracle to hope for.)
Thank you so much for your help on this! I now have five other forms to prepare, and your wisdom should help them all go smoothly.

  • Custom tab order Acrobat Pro 8.0

I just switched from Acrobat Pro 7.0 to 8.0 and I'm already lost. I have forms that have a hundred form fields on each page, and I need to set them to tab in a specific order. When I used Pro 7.0 it was a simple matter to skip any form field which did not need to be re-numbered and ctrl-click when I wanted to specify tab order. So for example if the first 50 form fields are tabbing in correct order, I could start correcting the tabbing order starting with form field #50 and keep going from there.
I can't seem to figure out how to do this using Pro 8.0. For example, if I ctrl-click on form field #4 and then click on the next field, the next field does become form field #5 BUT form field #4 then becomes form field #3. So that's really confusing. I've tried every combination of ctrl, shift and alt clicking, and gotten some very interesting results, but this is not getting my job done any faster, so if anyone knows an answer, please let me know. Thanks!

I thought I already posted a reply to this but I guess it was lost when the forums got updated.
Anyway, I fixed my issue - all it took was updating the Acrobat program. Click on Help and click on Check For Updates.
By the way, you will need the installation disk to do the update, and if you don't have the disk, the update will screw you. This was bad for me, since our IT dept has all our disks. So IT had a fun two days with my computer, calling up Adobe and trying to get my program back.

  • How to set tabbing order in Acrobat X Pro

I cannot find any instructions for manually setting tabbing order in Acrobat X Pro.  It does not work the same as earlier versions of Acrobat Pro.  Any idea as to where I can go for instructions for X Pro?

Thank you for the quick response!  I found instructions for the Pro 9 version, so followed that and it worked like a charm.
    Thanks again for your help.

  • CC Acrobat XI crashing when moving fields in tab order

    Using Mavericks 10.9.2, Acrobat 11.0.06
When editing a form PDF, if I try to move fields in the tab order (I have tab numbers showing) acrobat crashes.
I tried the search fix but that does not help.
Using the windows version of Acrobat through CC works and does not crash with the same file.

You may have a better chance to get a helpful reply if you ask in the Acrobat forum.

  • Tab order shows correctly, but doesn't work in PDF

Does anyone else have the problem, or know how to solve it, where you go through and set up the tab order correctly numbers for each page, but then when you tab through the preview pdf or the saved pdf, it will jump between pages instead of going through the tab order you just setup?  I'm completely frustrated, as it seems to work with some perfectly, barely work with some, and sometimes if i take a working form and add even just one text box, it blows the entire tab order out.

Thanks everybody.  I went through and checked the aligning of the hundreds of checkboxes i have.  I also had to end up giving names to some of my pages and
subforms to help fix the issue.  honestly i can't tell what fixed it but i think a combination of all them helped.  maybe it was too confused with so many unnamed subforms, checkboxes, etc.
I think it'd be a huge win for Adobe if for the next version they could just fix the bugs and try automating/making things easier.  it took forever to design this and with a high learning curve.

  • Tab order in form guide

    Hi All,
I have designed a form guide using xdp as a data model. The problem is of the tab order. I am using the layout as "Two column". As per the documentation, "The controls flow from left to right and are distributed equally between the two columns. The controls are positioned in this order: first column, second column, first column, second column, and so on."
But in my guide when I clicked on the preview button, the control is going top to botton : first column, first column, second column, second column.
Please help me in fixing this.
    Thanks and Regards,
    Ambika

This is what I'm seeing, however I think we would like to know how to change the order.
For instance, I have formatted the form to have two columns of data entry: Personal info in column 1, product info in column 2. When the user types their name in column 1, row 1 for "Name" then go to tab down to "Email", it actually tabs right to column 2, row 1, "Product Year." Altering the tab order would fix this problem.
    Thanks!

  • "Tab" control and Tab order of controls inside the tab

    Hello everybody,
I have created the tab control with 6 'tabs', inside every tab I have some controls, like edit fields etc. I wanted to make an order of controls for every tab, so I have selected the option "Tab-order settings" from menu "Edit" (sorry for translation, I use non-English version of LabView), and tried to set the order. After saving it with "OK" button it turned out that the order is not changed. Simple it seems that the option doesn't work for controls in tabs. Is this a bug or do you have a solution for this?
    TIA,
    Yazilim.

Sorry LabviewGuru, but I haven't found anything concerning Tab control and tab order inside it. Of course, I have found the topic "tabbing through front panel objects", but it simply describes how to change order for standard controls, not for controls which are inside the Tab control. But maybe you have another, extended help? So can you please copy and paste to discussion forum message this part of your help which concerns the Tab control and tab order, and then send the message?
    TIA,
    Yazilim.

  • Tab Order of POPUPKEY_FROM_LOV doesn't seem to work?

    Hi All,
If got a POPUPKEY_FROM_LOV in my PL/SQL Dynamic code as follows:
    APEX_ITEM.POPUPKEY_FROM_LOV(33,lClient,'CLIENTS',60,100,0,'YES',
    500,'tabindex="30" ')
but it does not recognize the item in the tab order.
Can I do it and if so what am I doing incorrectly?
    Bill

    that doesn't help
    I did this:
    lerrmsg:='Client Display.';
    lrtrn:=APEX_ITEM.POPUPKEY_FROM_LOV(33,lClient,'CLIENTS',60,100,0,
    'YES',500);
    lrtrn:=Replace(lrtrn,'<a href','<a tabindex="30" href');
the table index needs to be on the anchor image not the disabled text item.
