Table borders: inner table borders
I have been trying to figure out how to make a table with 10
pixel borders on all cells. I'm only able to get the outer borders
to have the 10 pixel border while the inner cells have a 1 pixel
border. I've tried just about everything I can think of in design
view (I've tried applying changes to the td tags instead of the
table) and within CSS, but I must be missing something somewhere.
Help?!
what selectors are you using?
<style type="text/css">
<!--
td {border:solid 10px;}
-->
</style>
This will make any cell have 10px borders.

Hello,
Having recently upgraded to DW8, when I insert a table, even
with zero
borders, I can see the table outline (lt. grey) in Preview
mode. If I
change the border color to white (or whatever the BG color
is), the border
is no longer visible (again, in Preview mode). Except if I
print the page
(not using a print CSS), the border prints...and in black
(though there is
no border defined and white was set as the border color).
It's got nothing
to do with my printing prefs in the browser.
What gives?

See the inner border/shading? Border is set to zero in the PI
but shows " "
in the code. Dowload the page and check it out in DW. Border
value shows
zero.

Hiding and showing borders on tables nested inside other tables
I'm using this code:
<?CHOOSE:?><?WHEN:position() > 1 ?><?attribute@incontext:border-top-color;'black'?>
<?attribute@incontext:border-top-style;'solid'?>
<?attribute@incontext:border-top;'0.25pt'?>
<?end when?>
<?end choose?>
I want the top border to apply to the entire row, not just the cell. This is probably easy syntax but it isn't accepting anything i throw at it.

Edited by: CISguy on Feb 24, 2010 10:49 AMI got it to work, but I think the PDF output is just buggy and code only works when it wants to. If anyone else is trying to use a table inside a table and is facing the "unexpected thick table border" issue, this is because of the table borders stacking on top of each other. I got it to work by disabling almost all borders on the inner table and using this code to show a border when i wanted it to.
<?if@row:position() >1?>
<?attribute@incontext:border-top-color;'black'?>
<?attribute@incontext:border-top-style;'solid'?>
<?attribute@incontext:border-top;'0.25pt'?>
<?end if?> -
Creating 2 separate tables with thin borders
I am trying to create 2 separate tables that have a thin
border and a space between the 2 tables. I am new to CSS but have
used Dreamweaver since its infancy,
Check this link for what I am referring to
http://www.sprucebodylab.com/index.php
ThanksMany ways to do that. An easy way would be to construct an
outer table
container with two cells, and insert an inner table in each
cell. Thin
borders require CSS styling.

How do I create a crystal report layout with a table and borders
My crystal report is a signin sheet. The sign in sheet has an ID column, Name column, Institution column, Place to signin column, and Weekday columns with checkboxes in each column for the visitor to checkoff.
How do I display the data that is being used int he crystal report in a table layout with borders around each cell? And is it possible to center vertical alignment of the data within eacvh cell like Excel?Blahahaha! Great answer Deb!
Seriously though... There is no vertical alignment in CR. There have been several past threads related to this issue and all of them have various workarounds. None of them are very elegant.
The best workaround I've found (especially if you are grid or borders) is to turn off the boarders for the field itself and drawl a rectangle around the field(s). Now you can place the field in the lower portion of the rectangle and adjust the rectangles height to place the field text in the center of the rectangle.
This will give you more control over the height of your elements than using a carriage return before the text.

How do you remove the borders from a table item
In OAF I have a set of data stored in a table that I must display. However, I must make it look like it is not in a table. I can't use a tablelayout because it is a set of records and records are constantly being added. How do I remove the borders and the pagination from the table?
I think you can't do anything about this.
Change you design as per Browser Look and Feel standards.

Hi All,
I design email templates using only tables but the design view options in cs4 only provide a huge 3px border in order to display the tables. In older versions of macromedia etc the table view is only 1px wide which makes designing a whole lot easier.
When I add tables within tables it adds more spacing and looks way off and it also looks off in browsers, causing me to have to increase and decrease padding sure this is no way to create table even if they have no borders and the table width is already fixed?
I have tried turning borders off in visual aids but there is no option to have just a single line to demonstrate a border!!
I can't work like this, can anybody help me or is this just the way borders are displayed in cs4 for the pc???Hi Guys, thanks for getting back to me.
the problem is purely about design view display and not about coding.
Below is how CS4 displays borders with two lines which I find difficult to decipher:
Then below is Macromedia DM 8 and this how I want the borders to look, with single lines to display the tables.
This may just be the way Abobe have decided to display tables in design view and there may not be any option to change it but if you know any way to change it I would be most greatful.
Thanks again.

I have updated o iOS 5 and updated my pages but it as altered my documents, layout, and tables, changing header row colour and thickness of border lines, some thick some thin within same table, if I put default it puts all the lines back, but I only wan them in 2 out f the 4 columns, If I try to change each section then I have to select all borders as default does the whole table, but if I chose all then the order lines are all thick is there any way of changing thickness of lines, and also does anyone know how to pu in a table of contents? I'm currently having to manually put in the info in the table which is v long. Thank you very much

I am an Web Designer and create PDF files for download from the sites that I develop. I use version 19.0 of Firefox.
Included in these PDF files are tables which display certain data, and I have made some table columns wider with the fill colour the same colour as the table border colour.
Recently table borders have appeared in the filled in areas, which I do not want to happen.
Also the look of the Adobe Reader is different in Firefox. and normal in IE and Opera browser which I also use.
So overall, the the PDF file is not being displayed correctly in Firefox. If I could I would have attached a screen dump of the display error, to help. Can you offer a solution please?The same problem here, this started with the latest version.
I found a temporal solution which is change the default "previewer" in the Options -> Applications tab
You need to install the Adobe Reader Plugin described [[here|http://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/use-adobe-reader-plugin-view-or-download-pdf-files]]. -
Dashed Table borders do not render correctly when PDF created from MS word 2013
I have a defined format for many documents which have all been created in MS word 2007. Never any problem creating PDFs of these using ADOBE XI Pro.
Updated to MS 2013 and now when converting the same doc to PDF all dashed borders around tables render as solid lines. The only time they render correctly is if I PRINT to PDF. Printing to PDF is not an option as I create batches of many documents at one time, so would be to time consuming. This was an issue when i considered upgrading 2007 to 2010 a couple of years ago, so caused me to delay upgrade.. upgrade is now required.
I have a sample of a document if required.
thanksJust as a test, have you tried the MS plugin for PDF creation? I have found with other versions of WORD and Acrobat that PDF Maker and the MS plugin can both fill in dots and dashes on vector graphics (basically what the border is) and yet it comes out correctly with printing to the Adobe PDF printer. Unfortunately I do not have a solution. In my case, it seemed to be related to the vector graphic itself (I could import it to InkScape or other vector graphic tool and save to EMF and it then worked fine. It may be something that MS themselves have messed up in OFFICE 2013. Good luck.

Table borders offset in PDF output
I am using RoboHelp HTML, version 9 and I need to deliver two outputs for my documentation: WebHelp and PDF.
My table borders look the way I want them to in WebHelp and Word, single line and thin (1px).
But when we go to PDF, I get two sets of lines, one all the way around my cells, another with gaps of white space.
I think its something to do with 3d borders not getting totally eliminated.
I've added "table-collapse: collapse;" to all my table styles.
Any ideas?
Note: If I create a table originally in Word with thin single line borders, it looks fine in PDF.
Here's how it looks in WebHelp and Word...
And then in PDF...Peter,
Yes, as I mentioned in an earlier post, I really like the help design on your web site. I researched many looks in preparing for a new stylesheet project. Ended up emulating a lot of your elements rather than reinvent the wheel.
Hope you are OK with that. Imitation is the sincerest form of flattery (definitely in my case).
Anyhow, I figured out my problem. The CSS for my original tables was using 5px padding all around. In Word output, this gets converted to table cell margins.
And that's what the PDF conversion doesn't like. Take out the original CSS padding--or the converted Word cell margins--and the problem goes away, leaving clean unbroken table lines in the PDF.
Best regards. -
RoboHelp X3 : Some borders of a Doc's table turn wider in a compiled CHM
I have a table in a Doc file and the width of each border
looks the same (1 pt) in Word but when I create a chm from this doc
file using RoboHelp, the table looks messed up in the HTML file
since some of the borders look as wide as 2 pt.
This table has many cells and some of them are merged for a
layout purpose and I'm just wondering whether this is causing this
problem. By the way, when I save this Doc file as HTML in Word, all
the borders look fine in this HTML.
If anyone knows a way around this or knows how to set the
width for all the borders at once, please let me
Thank you in advance.
know.Peter, you mentioned two updates. I cannot do online updates
here at work. I am in an offline secure environment, and I only saw
one update on the RoboHelp Update page (7.02). Did I need to find
and apply 7.01 or some other update first? It did not alert me to
anything when I applied it.
At the installation at home office, the Adobe auto-update
only found 7.02. My installed version in both places is 7.0 Build
145 and I launched the Help|Updates from RoboHelp Explorer in
RoboHelp for Word.
Thanks in advance. -
When converting tables in a MS Word 2010 or 2007 to PDF the table borders do not retain the correct thickness as identified in the word document. Is there a solution for this issue?
Please try with latest version of MS Word and Acrobat.

Table borders reappear in BI template when file reopened
Hi,
Have come across a frustrating issue with a BI Publisher Template. Using BI Report Publisher, I am putting together a sales invoice which has a bank giro slip at the bottom of the document. Due to the format of the slip with contains a number of boxed fields, I have created a table and added borders around the cells that require a box. The remainder of the table and cell do not have any borders. The problem arises when I close and reopen the template (or download it from Oracle). Every cell in the table now magically has a border around it!!
I have seen something similar happen with another template with a rogue line appearing but not like this. This is occuring on two PC's but both have Word 2000 loaded.
Any help would be welcomed.
Cheers, Davidi saw same moment from my coworker but for win7/32 and word 2007 (or may be 2010 don't remember )
then workaround was "elegant" =)
hi did template in .doc then saved it in .rtf
any change he did in .doc and then saved in .rtf
and so, as we had svn for code, then we had two working file - .doc (as base for changing) and .rtf (as result template for BIP)
we also didn't have no ideas about this problem and so didn't find any MOS or other solution only as above workaround
try it for your case
may be it will work for you too =) -
Hi
I'd appreciate some help with putting a border around a table
as I'm sure
I'm not doing this the best way!
I selected my table then chose a thin (size 2) border and
desired colour.
The problem is this has put a border around every cell in the
table.
Trying to remove the internal borders has been very
frustrating!
Just be clear, when I say "remove the internal borders" I
don't want to
merge cells I just want to stop the borders displaying.
So...
Is there a quick way to simply put an outline border around
the table?
What is the best method for removing internal borders?
Having got so used to the ease of formatting tables in MS
Word this is a bit
of a hair puller!!
Thanks for your time.
Happy New Year!!
IanDon't use the property inspector to add the border - you will
need to use
css...
