Table Columns Won't Stay Aligned

I'm brand new to forums and discussions, so if there's any advice or info on what to ask, mention, and where to post I'd be very grateful. I'm trying to build a website with Dreamweaver CS5 using a 3 column table. I adjusted the center column to make the overflow scrollable (for the sake of appearance, I wanted to make sure that my nav bar in the left column wasn't continually being disfigured by the pages resizing based on how much content the two columns have). After I adjusted the overflow property, the right column keeps floating way off to the right every time I activate live view mode and when I open it in a browser. I've tried the properties menu for the fixed, static, relative, etc. positioning, and even tried manually coding the coordinates I want the column to be locked at. All three columns are set to fixed size and positions, but I can't make the right column stay put or even keep it inside of the actual table. It actually floats in an area almost at the edge of the page border, well past where the table should end (the table does not appear to resize but I'm not positive). I've checked the obvious things like cell padding and spacing, so far nothing explains what's going on. Any advice?

Your navigation menu bar should NOT be disfigured by the amount of content you insert in your center and left column of the table. The reason it IS being disfigured is that you have set up the table incorrectly. I'll take a guess that you have split your naviagtion cell into the number of rows that your menu bar requires? Bad move as this WILL distort when content is fed into the other columns.
If you really must use tables to lay out your content then DO NOT split and merge table cells. This is the fastest way to the funny farm.
For someone of your ability what you should be doing is inserting another table in the left cell of your first table then split that into the number of rows required for you navigation menu. This method ensures that the cells are NOT linked to the first table and act independently.
Of course for the little more advanced one would NOT even insert another table but just use <p></p> (paragraph) or <a></a> (anchor - link) tags directly in the main tables left column. Again these are independent and will NOT be affected by varing amounts of content in either of the two other table cells.
And for the much more experienced you'd hopefully be using a <div> for construction and <li></li> (list) for the menu

OfficeJet R60 cartridges won't stay aligned

Hi,
I've had my OfficeJet R60 since 2000 and never had any problems with it, however lately (within the past month or so), the print cartridges keep going out of alignment. I run the Align Cartridges function, and make the best selections I can (sometimes none of the options are aligned well), and sometimes have to 'align' it several times in order for the alignment sheet to look satisfactory. After that, I get maybe one or two good prints and then it's back out of alignment again. I've tried removing and replacing the ink cartridges, cleaning the cartridges, resetting the factory defaults, but nothing seems to solve the problem. Any ideas?

(Don't think it's relevant, but I use Windows XP SP2, the printer is connected via parallel port, and it's on a very sturdy/level surface.)

I have the exact same problem, allmost got used to it but still annoyng. Let me ask you a question...one or all of your cartridge chips are showing that the cartridge is empty(the "?" sign), am I right?. Because from what I gathered with my 8500a plus this seems to be the source of this problem. My printer is quite new so I didnt got to change any cartridge yet and one of my cartridge chips shows "?", and then my printer started to have this problem. First it froze when it jumped out of sleep(could not print anything utill you open/close cartridge/printhead door), then after firmware update they repaired the freeze problem but it still jumps out of sleep mode for no reason.
So am I right that one of your cartridges shows empty-"?" ?

Columns in Finder windows won't stay where I put them!

WHen I open a finder window, put in LIST VIEW, then re-size my columns - everything is good now I can do stuff. BUT WAIT! I do one thing: dragging one folder and nesting it into another and BAM! The columns re-size back to the default. This is a deal-killer for me. I cannot work like this! If there is no fix, SOrry, but goodbye apple and hello Windows.

Open window is a folder named "Photos".
It contains many sub folders: Backyard photos, front yard photos, vacation photos, etc.
It also contains a ton of image files - that I'm sorting into their respective folders.
When I drag an image file titled "Backyard sunny" into the sub-folder "Backyard photos"... the columns all snap back to their default settings. FORCING ME TO RESIZE THEM.... then I drag another photo into another folder and the same thing happens again. THIS IS A SHUTDOWN OF MY USING MAC OS. I either need to return to Mavericks, or this needs to be fixed somehow. This never happened before, and it won't happen in the future, not on my desktop. I'd hate to start asking my wife to start teaching me windows. I've been a mac person my whole computing life (since the early 1990's) and never have I run into a show-stopper like this.
My computer is NON-FUNCTIONAL if the columns won't stay where I put them!

How to align a String value to the right side inside a table column?

Hi,
I have a text view inside a table column which is mapped to a string attribute. I need to align the text in the text view to the right hand inside the table column. But its always getting aligned towards the left side. I have tried by setting the <b>hAlign</b> property of Element properties of Text View to <b>right / forced right</b> but still the text is getting aligned to the left side.
How do I align the String values in Text View towards the right hand side inside a Table Column?

Hello Sayan,
if i do get it right, you are adding an TextView element to a Table Cell. Then you should consider setting aligment within the particular cell. By calling:
YourCell.setHorizontalAlignment(CellHAlign.RIGHT)

Alignment on a specific character in an af:table column

Hello,
I have an af:table with columns containing vehicle kilometer counter, average speeds, running hours... These values may contain décimals, but not always. And I would like these values to be aligned on the decimal separator (. or ,) in the table column. Could you tell me how to do this?
The only solution I have found now is using text-align=right and using minFractionDigits/maxFractionDigits. Working, but not very attractive...

The approach used by you - seems to be fine for me.
1) For aligning the text to the right, you would need to use the text-align:right as an inlineStyle property for the column.
2) For formatting of numbers, you can use the specify the pattern directly-

Vertical Alignment in table columns

Using JHeadstart 10.1.3.4.
Different display types are differently positioned in table columns. Single text seems vertically centered; text fields with multiple lines are vertically aligned at the top of a table column; vertical radio buttons are vertically aligned at the bottom of a table column. The resulting display is quite messy.
I have not found any formating option in JHeadStart that allows for controlling vertical alignment. Am I a missing something?
If JHeadStart 10g does not support controlling vertical alignment directly, how should this be handled? Does JHeadStart 11g add such vertical alignment support?

If you need anything special considering vertical alignment in tables, you can simply perform that in the resulting JSPX page. In other words, just alter the JSPX file to whatever you need.
Save your customizations in JHeadstart using velocity templates, so your page is regenerateable while keeping your changes. See the JHeadstart Developers Guide on how to change such customizations in the templates.
Also in release 11 there is no vertical alignment (yet); I suppose because for most tables, each row just has a single line and vertical alignment is therefore not needed. However, I have put it on the wish-list, so we will check on it later. Thanks!

BUG: Export DDL and Data fails for mixed case table/column names

I have found a bug in SQL Developer. See details below.
Description:
When "Export DDL and Data) function is used on a table/columns not named in UPPERCASE, sql generated by SQL Developer is invalid.
Steps to reproduce:
- open SQL Developer, connect to DB
- make a table named "lowerCase" (in double quotes, so it won't be automatically changed to capital letters)
- you may also add some columns, for example "lowerCol1", "UpCol2", ALLUPCOL3
- add some data rows to the table
- choose Tools -> Export DDL and Data
- check exporting of tables and data, on "filter" tabs choose your "lowerCase" table
- press "Apply"
Error:
Generated SQL contains invalid INSERTs: mixed-case table and columns are referenced without obligatory double quotes, which yields an error when generated script is executed (see below, relevant line is underlined)

Alternatively, do you know of any other simple way of copying a single database (it's called a schema in Oracle, right?) from one computer to another? Possibly something so simple like detaching->copying->reattaching mdf (data) files in SQL Server... I thought that this "Export DDL&Data" function will do, but as you can see I couldn't use it.
I just need a simple solution that works - one operation on source to stuff, get the resulting files to other computer and one operation to have it running there... I think that such scenario is very basic, yet I just can't achieve it and I am simply not allowed to spend more time on it (read: our test project fails, my company rejects my "lobbying" and stays with MSSQL :/ )

I just wanted to give some very short feedback on my experiences with SQL Developer, so I didn't think starting new threads would be necessary, but as I was writing it became much bigger than I initially planned - sorry about that. Generally, you're right - in most cases it's true that "switching DBMS is a major commitment" and "you will produce terrible code" if you don't learn the new one.
However, I think that you miss one part of market here - the market that I think Express is also targeted on. I'd call it a "fire&forget databases" market; MySQL comes to mind as possibly most common solution here. It's the rather small systems, possibly web-accessed, whose data-throughput requirements are rather modest; the point is to store data at all, and not necesarily in fastest way, because given the amount of data that is used, even on low-end hardware it will work well enough. What's important here is its general ease of use - how easy is to set up such system, connect and access data, develop a software using it, how much maintenance is needed, how easy this maintenance is, how easy are the most common development tasks as creating a DB, moving a DB from test to production server etc. There, "how easy" directly translates to "how much time we need to set it up", which translates to "how much will the development will cost".
Considering the current technology, switching the DBMS in such systems is not necesarily a major commitment and believe me that you will not produce terrible code. In many cases it's as simple as changing a switch in your ORM toolkit: hibernate.dialect = Hibernate.Dialect.OracleDialect vs MySQLDialect vs MsSql2005Dialect
Therefore, in some part of market it's easy to switch DBMS, even on project-by-project basis. The reason to switch will appear when other DBMS makes life easier => development faster. From that point of view, I can understand my colleagues giving me an embarassing look and saying "come on, I won't read all these docs just to have db copied to test server". And it doesn't mean "they are not willing to learn anything new", it's just that they feel such basic task should have self-explaining solution that doesn't require mastering any special knowledge. And if they get such simple solutions somewhere else, it costs them nothing to change the hibernate dialect.
I think Oracle did the great job with introducing the Express to this "fire&forget" market. The installation is a snap, it just works out of the box, nothing serious to configure, opposite to what I remember from installing and working on Oracle 9 a few years ago. In some places it's still "you need to start SQL*Plus and enter this script", but it's definitely less than before. I also find the SQL Developer a great tool, it can do most of what we need to do with the DB, it's also much better and pleasant to use over Oracle 9 tools. Still, a few basic things still require too much hassle, and I'd say taking your schema to another machine is one of them. So I think that, if you do it well, the "schema copy wizard" you mentioned might be very helpful. If I was to give any general advice for Express line of DB/tools, I'd say "make things simple" - make it "a DB you can't see".
That's, IMHO, the way to attract more Express users.

Move Table Column with AppleScript in Microsoft Word

Microsoft Word has a flaw (in my opinion) with tables in that it aligns the left and right text with the margins rather than aligning the table columns with the margins. This results in sloppy tables, because the left and right borderlines lie outside the margins.
I would like to fix the word tables by
calculating the left cell padding and right cell padding in points and setting them to variables {left_pad,right_pad} respectively
move left column by left_pad to the right
move right column by right_pad to the left
The script I was working on does not work, but I will post it to show my thought process as I hone in on my solution.

Can we have more than 1 UI element in a single table column?

For example, I want to have IMAGE, ProgressIndicator and LinkToAction together as a template in a table column.
I already tried without success. I could only add single UI elements. After that, tools won't let me do it.

You can have at one time only one UI element in the table.
if you want to have more than one type of editors in the table then you can use table cell editors as suggested above.
but i guess you are referring here to grouping more than one UI element in one editor or one column.
i think that is not possible as such.
How ever what you can do is, make use of the TABLECOLUMNGROUP.
instead of adding column directly to the table use TABLECOLUMNGROUP and add columns to this.
create three table column for three UI elements you are reffering here and put them in this one TABLECOLUMNGROUP.
and add rest of the column straight to the table.

Frame 9 solution for table column + side head does not work in Frame 10 and 11

In Frame 9 structured (DITA) we could force Frame to record the actual widths of table columns in the DITA XML. Frame 9 would respect the widths when opening the file. This was particularly useful for forcing tables to be wide -- to go across the column and the side head -- and for the columns to never resize.
In Frame 9 this was done by commenting out the line
"writer use proportional widths;"
like this
"/* writer use proportional widths; */"
in the topic.rules.text" file located in
"...\FrameMaker9\Structure\xml\DITA\app\DITA-Topic-FM"
This no longer works in Frame10 and Frame 11. Even though the same line is commented out in all the "NAME.rules.txt" files in all the subdirectories of
    "...\AdobeFrameMaker11\Structure\xml\DITA_1.2\app"
and
    "...\AdobeFrameMaker11\Structure\xml\DITA\app"
and
    "...\AdobeFrameMaker10\Structure\xml\DITA_1.2\app"
and
    "...\AdobeFrameMaker10\Structure\xml\DITA\app" .
Commenting out the line does force Frame 10 and 11 to record the absolute column width (2.357" etc.) in the DITA XML.
However, on Open, Frame 10 and 11 force the table to fit in the column, not the column and sidehead. That is they behave as though they were still using proportional column widths. It seems the original values (as inserted by Frame 10 and 11 before closing!) are recalculated on Open, thereby mimicking the default proportional width behavior.
For example, this on Save then Close from Frame 10 or 11

Unfortunately, I don't have any insight into the default DITA table handling in FM10 or FM11 .. so can't give you the answer you're looking for. Since both FM10 and FM11 offer ExtendScript, you could write a script (or have one written) that processes all of your files to reset the table widths. Or, perhaps the best short term solution may be to reinstall FM9 to get the job done, then spend more time later to figure out a better solution.
One alternative would be for you to use DITA-FMx, which supports the table/@pgwide attribute for controlling which tables span the page and which don't. Since your tables probably don't make use of this attribute, it won't help in the near term, but might make sense going forward.

How to stop table columns widths from drifting

I discovered that all the columns widths of my tables change on their own,
leading me with tables of different columns widths where I wanted to
maintain a strong cohesion of presentation among them.
Here is a scenario to reproduce and understand the problem:
• create a new Pages'08 document;
• insert a Table;
the 3 columns of this newly created table are 5.49 cm width each.
Problematic case:
• change the first column width with:<pre> Table > Table > Column Width > 5 cm</pre> and hit return
• the column width will switch to 5.01 cm
• the 2 other columns widths will have switched to 5.50 cm.
Is there a technique, I didn't find yet, to define a table column to a
fixed value so that Pages'08 won't make it drift and wont touch to
other columns width?

Ul won't stay in premade layout

Ok i making this site for school. My ul list won't stay inside one of dw premade layouts. The bullets go off the side of it. Anyone know why?

How to implement ajax at ADF table column or ADF table column button.

I want to use ajax in table column selection. I have two table. One is master table and second one is detailed table. I have requirement to click master table column and display data in detail table column against the master table column.

I don't think you need the f:ajax tag - you should be able to do the synchronization between the tables with the built-in partial page refresh functionality.
Just define the partialTrigger property of the second table to point to the firsttable.

How do I hide a table column

Hi,
I'm trying to create a link column in a table by declaring one column as link type and set its linkColumnKey to another column which contains the actual text of the http URL. I'd like to hide the second column in the table. How do I do that? One of the posts I found said that I can set the column type to USER and an empty title, then the column won't be displayed since I don't have a renderer. However, the column still gets displayed.
Any help would be appreciated.
