Table with break between pages but without big spaces

Hello,
I want to make a break in a cell of a table, that the text continues on the other page...
The Problem is, that pages leaves big space between tables, that break form one page to an other!
In Word there I have the option to admit a break in a cell!....
Is there a solution for Pages?

Common question, answered here many times in the negative. I'll offer you a workaround.
Highlight the row on the second page, containing the text that you wish to split, and from the Menu Bar select Format > Table > Add Row Below. Now highlight the lower portion of the text in your oversize cell and select Edit > Cut. If you cut the proper amount of content, the remainder will pop back to the previous page and you can Paste the text you cut into the new empty row. If the empty row also pops back to the previous page, no worry -- after you paste the cut text into it, it will move to the top of the next page.
Not pretty, but it may work for you.

Form on a Table with Report, 2 Pages

I have a view and i am using this to create a page as follows for insert/update/delete .
(1) create application from scratch
(2) on page 1 using wizard choice "Form on a Table with Report, 2 Pages"
(3) Follows the screens and create the 2 page where first page is a report and when i click on edit(in my case) it goes to next page for insert/update/delete.Everything like insert/update/delete works fine .
Now this view has say three columns
(1) element_type_id
(2) element_name
(3) yesnoflag
changing element_name and yesnoflag column is ok but then i need to have element_type_id corresponding to the element_name from some other table.
Question1
How should i get the element_type_id corresponding to the element_name .so when i create a new record it goes to page 2 and i can provide LOV for element_name and enter into yesnoflag, how can i get the element_type_id populated corresponding to the element_name entered.
Question2
Also in my application i have name element_type_id as primary key .I am not sure if thats a good idea or should i make element_name as primary key ?
please help.

hey rui--
by "adjust your html", i simply meant that you should look at your page, think about the html that's being used, and adjust it as necessary to make your data wrap as desired. now that i'm pretty sure i understand your issue, i can tell you the adjustment. you're saying that your form shows your long column "correctly" with data broken up onto separate lines by carriage returns or linefeeds. when you display that same data in your report, those carriage returns ( chr(13) ) and/or linefeeds ( chr(10) ) aren't observed. that's because they don't mean much in regular html. two ways to approach this would be:
a) replace your carriage returns with explicit <br> tags to get the breaks that you want...
select test_id, replace(test_description,chr(13)) test_desc from my_table;
b) wrap your column with <pre> tags to preserve all the original formatting of your data...
select test_id, '<pre>'||test_description||'</pre>' test_desc from my_table;
...and you could, of course, do option B in your report row template if you'd like.

In MS Word, it is possible to prevent tables from breaking at page breaks. So, if a table, when populated with data gets too big for the spae allotted on one page, the table will move in its entirety, to the next page. Can this be done in "Pages"?

I am trying to figure out ow to prevent tables from breaking along a row when there is a page break in "Pages". This is done in MS Word by going under Table properties under "Rows". I have a document with small three row tables and I want to keep the tables together and move to the next page in its entirety when there is a page break. Help!

The table that I don't want to break between rows looks like this, except it fits the width of the page:

I inserted a Inline Text box into the document, copied the table inside the text box, then pasted it through the document (which lists quilting projects). When the table spans a page break, even when in an inline text box, the picture which is in the right hand column splits, as well as the information pertaining to the particular quilt.

Using iWork 09 Pages I need the first six pages of a document to not be counted as page numbers. I need the seventh page to be numbered as page one. I already know to have a section break between pages 6 and 7 and to use inspector "start at." Not working

In the book I'm formatting, the first page is the title page, the second page is the copyright page, the third through fifth pages are the table of contents, the sixth page is blank, then the text (which I want to number as page one) is the introduction. I have section breaks between the title page, the copyright page, the table of contents, and the introduction. Using the Inspector, Layout, Section, and selecting "Start at" 7 doesn't do anything!

Is is a bit tricky, but it works. On your 6th page (the blank one) go to Insert > Section Break. This will give you a 7th page. Then go to Inspector (blue circle with a white letter i in it) and go to Layout Inspector (2nd tab). Once in thee, go to Section. Check "Start at" and enter the number 1. Then ensure all other toons I there are unchecked.
Then go to Insert, and select Auto Page Numbers. You will find that your 7th page is numbered 1 as you want, but the first six pages will be numbered 1 to 6, which you don't want. But you can then delete the page numbering in that 1st section, leaving your 2nd section, beginning at page 7, numbered as page 1. You'll need to play around a bit as I did, and I would suggest using a test document to play with so you can undo any unwanted actions etc, but with tweaking around, it's doable. This took me ages to sort, so if it works for you, please give me the points :-)

Upload table with a flat file Once - without program

I know that it is possible to upload a Z table from a flat file. (without program)
I do not have a problem with this table. I manage a maintenance view (SM30) and I can thus enter one by one a recording in this table and to put it in an transport request(R3TR-TABU)
I would like to enter all the recordings only one (with a file.)
I know that it is possible... but how???

The only other way I know how to put table entries in is thru SE11 Utitlties>Table Contents->create entries. But this does not allow to be uploaded via file.

Drill Down in Pivot Table with item on page level

Hi,
I've got a pivot table with Chart next to it. The chart is a separate view, I did not use the 'Chart pivoted results' option.
My pivot table has one Page Level item being the Month Name.
I now have the strange behavior that drilling down on the Pivot table elements gives me No Results as my filter would be too restrictive. The problem is with the 'Month Name'. Removing this item from the filter shows the correct data. When I use the chart next to my data to do the drilling I encounter no problems. This is because this way the restriction on the month name is not added when drilling.
Has anybody encountered this behavior before and knows of a way to solve this.

Let rows with long texts break between pages in tables.

I just spent the entire day trying to figure out how to do this very simple task, and just found out in the forum that the only way to do it is to manually create new rows whenever text is too long to fit. Even Word does this routinely.
Now I have to spend another day manually setting tables.
Sigh.

What do you mean? How do you share a request?

Table not breaking on pages

Hey all,
I'm building a document that has a long table on it with content in two columns. Basically it's a storyline on the left and technical notes on the right.
The problem is that Pages seems to break on table rows, creating gaps on some pages because the next row doesn't fit on the page.
Is it possible to have Pages break the row and fill the page (and continue on next page)? Or can't this be done?

Sorry its a bit late, but may be of some use...
Numbers (I've found) can do it, but it's only ok while you are in Numbers. As soon as it's put into pages, it does the same.
I'm trying to do the same, but on Ipad3. Google does give examples of how to do it with a Mac...

Page Style works with NYTimes home page but fails with articles.

Page Style works with nytimes.com front page in that the Basic Page Style is displayed but when I select an article the display is that of No Style even though the Basic Page Style is selected.
This is on a Mac computer.

Merge Two Tables with the same columns but different data

I have a table that has the following columns:
Current Table Definition
commonname
family
genus
species
subspecies
code
I have a number of entries that donât fit the current table definition â that is that they only have a common name or description and a code. These records donât actually represent a species but are needed for data entry because they represent an object that may be encountered in the study (Bare Ground â which isnât a species but would need to be recorded if encountered). So I would really like 2 tables:
Table 1 Miscellaneous
name
code
Table 2 Plant Species
commonname
family
genus
species
subspecies
code
I would like two tables so I can enforce certain constraints on my species table like requiring that the family, genus, species, subspecies combination is unique. I canât do this if I have all the âotherâ records that donât have a family, genus, species, or subspecies unless I put in a lot of dummy data into the fields to make each record unique. I donât really want to do this because these miscellaneous records really donât represent a specific species.
So â the problem is that while I want this data separate I will need to point a column from another table to the code column in both tables.
How is this best done? Table? View? Merge?

Actually you don't have to use scope refs. Sorry but I misunderstood you earlier. Here is a complete example that does exactly what you want. Notice how I added the constraint to the materialized view. Also notice when we try to insert a code in tbl3 that doesn't exist in the view, we get an error. HTH.

Apple TV2 with iMac via AirPort but without W-Lan?

I have my iMac connected to the internet with cable-LAN. iTunes is ready and the iMac has AirPort. I have no Wireless LAN. Will I be able to connect Apple TV 2 to my iMac via AirPort without W-LAN? (They couldn't tell me at my local Apple dealer...)

If your network doesn't have wifi, connect your devices by Ethernet, wifi is not a necessity and indeed Ethernet is always the best way to connect things on a network.
An ad hoc network created with your iMac cannot be used with the Apple TV.

Sync Nokia with gacal via pcsuite but without outl...

Hi everyone,
I'd like to import my calendar from gcal (google calendar) to my nokia 6230 via the nokia pc suite. Unfortunately pc suite only exports to outlook and lotus, both of which are not affordable for me. Is there a free alternative that pc suite accepts and that can import the ical standard?
Or is there another way to "sync" nokia6230 with gcal? I know of a tool that can be installed on the a nokia6230i but that's not use to me

TS2771 Reset ipod 4 and still cannot get speaker to work... with headphones it works, but without headphones, nothing. Apple reset it and said hardware problem, but nothing else.. Any ideas??

Any ideas to get speaker on ipod touch to work.. took to Apple store, for them to wipe it out,to confirm what I said is correc... they said Hardware Issue, and nee a new one, b/c they have no idea.

- Try cleaning out/blowing out the headphone jack. Try inserting/removing the plug a dozen times or so.

- Reset all settings

- Restore from backup
- Restore to factory settings/new iPod.
- Make an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store. Seems you have a bad headphone jack.

Trouble with breaks between captions and graphics

I'm trying to figure out how to properly structure and style FigCaptions and images using DITA 1.2. The tagging structure I've been using to insert images into topics is as follows: <fig><title></title><image></fig>. In this scheme I have to set the image placement attribute to "inline" for the image to line up correctly in the left margin (which is determined by the <fig> element), but this in turn makes the image try to wrap around the caption, so to speak.
