Tabs, menu hard to read

The dark gray on light gray and small typeface make the tab labels and menus hard for me to read. Is there a way to make the labels bigger or the contrast between type and background greater?

No, I don't understand. Is + the + key? It seems as if you are saying you press the same three keys to increase or decrease contrast.
EDIT: I found the slider control on the display page. Thanks. I wondered if there was a control specific to Safari.

Occassionally when I visit a website, the menu bar becomes gray and hard to read, being restored only bt minimizing and restore.

Occasionally I have noticed that the menu bar appears a hard to read gray. This seems to occur after a visit to accuweaher.com.. It is reproducible even though both the foreground and background menu bars for the desktop are set to black.

Start Firefox in [[Safe Mode]] to check if one of the add-ons is causing the problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Tools > Add-ons > Themes).

Hard to read embossed tabs

Does anyone know how to get rid of the embossed type look in the tabs and bookmark bar for Safari (v3.0.4 - Leopard)? It's really, really hard to read. I've tried changing type smoothing, type size - but nothing makes it easier to view.

Having just come back to Safari I like everything about it EXCEPT the legibility of the tabs.
Apple have a long history of helping those with reduced vision and I find all but the active tab illegible - grey type on dark grey field. Is there really no fix for this?
The button bar is fine.

Upscaled images look blurry, is there a way to sharpen them? In particular, zooming on pages with images that actually contain only text are hard to read.

I am zooming in on my homework in mastering physics. I am using a large screen and sitting far away. It uses a lot of images containing the text I need to read, but when the images are upscaled, they become very blurry and hard to read. A simple sharpen effect after it is resized would fix the problem. Is there a way to do this in firefox? like a command line switch or maybe something in about:config? Thanks

It may sound counter-intuitive, but could you try disabling graphics hardware acceleration? Since this feature was added to Firefox, it has gradually improved, but there still are a few glitches.
You usually need to restart Firefox in order for this to take effect, so save all work first (e.g., mail you are composing, online documents you're editing, etc.).

On the "General" mini-tab, uncheck the box for "Use hardware acceleration when available"

Hi I need some help please as above I have just purchased my first mac 27" and as much I love it as a newbie im having some teething troubles, when say Facebook or my company website is displayed it is only displayed in the centre of the screen I know I can zoom in and out but that doesnt look great and dont want to have to that on each page display, how do i fix this please.

For the browser window, just drag it to the top left of the screen (click and hold on the top bar with the traffic lights to drag), then in the bottom right of the window you'll see a rectangle with diagonal hatching. Click and hold on that and drag the window to the size you want.
Clicking on the green dot at top left will expand the window to fit the screen, clicking it again will shrink it back to where it was (this doesn't work in Finder windows quite the same).
The menu bar size is set in the bowels of the OS, though there may be third-party applications which can alter it.
As it's size is relative to the screen resolution, you could try reducing the resolution in System Preferences > Displays to see if that would suit you better.

Icons and toolbar text is way too small and hard to read (kind of fuzzy)

The toolbars (menu bars) at the top of the screen have letters and icons and symbols that are way too small to read. Also the background color options are limited. Light black on grey is hard to read. I have tried customizing all that I can. There used to be a thing in control panel called display, and we could pick all sorts of fonts and colors for all those toolbar strips. Where did that go? I am VERY FRUSTRATED!!

I've tried those, and have just decided to go back to 3.6. Firefox just seems to have too much input lately trying to tweak and adjust. Meanwhile, the later versions just end up looking worse and worse with each iteration. Icons too small, monochromatic tool bar, making icons harder to distinguish, and, worst of all, frequent crashes.
Perhaps some of these problems are because I'm using XP, but I've noticed many if not all of the appearance deficiencies with my laptop running Win7. Probably the most annoying thing about later versions, though, is the inability to set memory time for history. This alone is a deal breaker for me, and ultimately, as IE has gotten better, I may just go back there.

Increase the String pref layout.css.devPixelsPerPx from 1.0 to 2.0 in 0.1 or 0.05 steps to adjust the size of all fonts and other elements in Firefox.<br />
In current Firefox versions this pref is a String value parsed to a float and allows to fine tune the dimensions of all elements (user interface and web pages) more precisely.

Hi jeanbrasel, sorry you are having problems. I assume your problem is with the desktop version of Firefox. In that case try this.
Click the Firefox button in the upper left-hand corner. Click Options, then click the Content tab. Check the Fonts & Colors section to make sure that the default size is acceptable. If that is acceptable, then click the Advanced button and uncheck the box next to "Allow pages to choose their own fonts, instead of my selections above". Then select a minimum size, such as 12. Here is a screenshot to help you. If that doesn't fix it, reply back!

iCal Lion makes it very hard to read overlapping events: often one can only easily read one of them. How can we get the interface in iCal for Snow Leopard and before when they were placed size by size rather than on top, and thus obliterated.

Use Terminal.app to turn on the iCal Debug Menu -
defaults write com.apple.iCal IncludeDebugMenu 1
Then in iCal go to the debug menu > Top Sekret (sic) > Uncheck "use iPad style event layout."

Using safari web pages have writing over writing hard to read

I do a lot of surfing from web page to web page. Lately it is very hard to read many of the pages as there is writing over writing. Sometimes a section on the page is too small and I cannot read to entire content.

Two main things you can try are to reset Safari, which can be selected under the Safari menu item and try deleting the .plist.
You need to look in your user Library/Preferences for the .plist. Hold down the option key while using the Finder "Go To Folder" command. Enter ~/Library. Delete the .plist(s) for the application.
If you prefer to make your user library permanently visible, use the Terminal command found below.

You might want to bookmark the command. I had to use it again after I installed 10.8.2. I have also been informed that if you drag the user library to Finder it will remain visible.

Cannot keep spry tabbed menu working

I have created a spry tabbed menu on my page, as well as an accordian menu on another page. I saved my spry files in the spry assets folder, along with my menu bar (which works just fine.) I will add it, make changes, save it, preview it, and the accrodian and tabbed menu both works on the pages i save them on. then i close and the next time i open that page, they have lost their animation and are just lists on my page. What am i doing wrong?

Seperate spry tabbed menu styles

I am trying to style two tabbed menus differently (one
is inside of the other one... and am having problems) I have been reading previous posts but can't quite seem to figure it out.
1)I created the first tabbed menu and modified the styles and saved the .css as mainpanel.css
2) created the second menu and changed the code to "label2" for each segment of the code and saved the stylesheet as secondlabel.css
everything works fine EXCEPT THE SELECTED TAB...I can't seem to be able to modify the style of the selected tab in the second tabbed menu ..
is this because it is lying within the content of the first tabbed menu??

you have to add the new name at the beginning of each of the different styles present in the sprymenu.css
.newstyle .Tab {}
.newstyle .TabSelected {}
I was trying to modify them each: (ex: .newstyleTab {}, .newstyleTabSelected{} - which was no successful
