Hi Craig,
would it be really worth the hassle doing all the "Special Train" preparations for 40 people or so? I would suggest to set up a registration Page for the Cluetrain running on Sunday, October 25th to be in Vienna for Communit day. I think the best connection is:
Frankfurt(Main)Hbf So, 25.10.09
ab 10:38 6 ICE 25
Hanau Hbf ab 10:54 103
Würzburg Hbf ab 11:44 5a/b
Nürnberg Hbf ab 12:36 12
Regensburg Hbf ab 13:27 9
Plattling ab 14:00 3
Passau Hbf ab 14:33 5
Wels Hbf    ab 15:31 4
Linz Hbf    ab 15:46 6AD
St.Pölten Hbf ab 16:39
Wien Westbahnhof So, 25.10.09
an 17:22 3
After the deadline of the registration you get a Group Ticket and reserve the seats in one coach.
Another possibility would be the Clue Bus. Our Big Band is traveling with Deutsche Touring GmbH for a great price now to Croatia. Will update you after our journey in September if that all went good.
Best regards

  • Tech Query - Need Replacement Circuit Board Part - PCB Receptacle

    Greetings,
While upgrading my iBook hard drive, I broke the power button wire socket off the circuit board.
I am trying to find out what the heck the part number is and where to get a replacement.
It is the part talked about on the following webpage:
    http://www.ifixit.com/Guide/51.12.11.html
"The connectors at the ends of the cables are attached very firmly to the sockets on the logic board. Pulling directly on the cable will either separate the cable from its connector or the socket from the logic board."
    Thanks

The piece in question is fairly simple to find, as it is mainly used for speaker/switch/sensor connectors. I've disassembled many brands, and I have seen that particular connector alot. I usually order from digikey, (www.digikey.com) and get most of my specific parts from there. I happen to have a G4/867 Powerbook on my bench right now, doing a search since the customer had broken not only the recepticle free from the mainboard, but also the plates from the mainboard that the conductors touch, but doing a sight-trace of the board, I think the edge connectors are also connected with the central conductors of the recepticle, thus making the sides the actual contacts for the switch. I was unable to turn it on by bridging those, though, and assumed that the entire thing had to be re-attached. I was able to place two flattened squares of solder over the board under the recepticle. (Which has two plastic retaining feet, thank Jobs) so now it is firmly back in there, but I think I am going to have to use a solder pen to get the contacts to touch the mainboard, since solder doesn't stick to silicone very well.

  • Applying security to Internal Content of Note Board

    Hello Techies,
I am using Note Board Web Part in on of my application. Now my requirement is to apply security on that web part as some of the user will be able to write or insert the note in it but they will not be able to see it and some user will not be able to insert
not in it but they will be able to see it.
Please can anyone help me on this?
    Thanks in Advance
    Swap

    Hi SwapnPro,
Do you mean, that some users can use the post dialog to submit posts, then he/she cannot see the posts below the submit dialog in the web part? Whiles other can see the posts, but cannot use the post submit dialog?
If so, in my opinion, if it is used in one page, use JavaScript/JQuery is easier to do this, add Content Editor Web Part, in the page load, JavaScript check current user account, if it is in the group that not allowed to see the posts, then hide the posts
part div, otherwise, for users that cannot submit the post, add action to posts button, disable to submit the post.
If I have misunderstanding, please provide more information what the web part would like.

  • Possible Logic board probs

    Hi All
A Friend of mine has a White Macbook 1.83GHZ and there is an issue is that it sometimes shuts itself down! Best guess from the Apple techs was that the logic board is toast but this was only a guess.
Could there be any other reasons as apple wanted nearly £400 to replace a new logic board.

Most likely cause IMO would be an overheating CPU. So, tell your friend to fish out the restore media that came with the system. Find the one that has something about Apple Hardware Test on it. Tell them to run that. The extended test. After letting the system sit for an hour or two to cool off. It might be that it's a simple case of a fan not performing up to spec, which would be considerably cheaper than a new logic board. It's also possible that the thermal grease needs to be reapplied to the CPU and GPU, but that's no small undertaking, so hope for the fan issue.
Seems like kind of a stretch to call those people techs when they're just tossing out some near catch-all component.

  • Logic Board/Video Card Problem?

I sue Bootcamp with vista. But my Mac OS X isnt working either. heres the Deal.
I use my computer for gaming and its been great but just yesterday, it had a graphical error. The Screen Flashed Black and back on several times before giving m the blue screen.
It says the problem is that the Driver software couldnt load, so i tried to load my Mac OS, it loaded fine at first, once in inside of any webpage, it was choppy, when i loaded ITunes, it stalled and froze. Now it load at it stalls when i select what OS to go into.
I can load Windows fine, but any time i load it out of safe mode i get green dots across my entire screen while it loads, and the Device manager gives me the error code 43 under Display adapter.
Ive never had a problem like this, my computer is out of warrenty. ive tried a ReFromate and no luck. Heres everything ive attempted so far.
I have installed Current Nvidia Drivers.
Ive rolled back to old Nvidia Drivers.
Ive Reformated my Windows Vista Partition(i couldnt reformate my OS because it freezed with Mac OS X installer Cd inserted.)
Im game for any help and support. Ive been hung out to dry by apple and a certified tech said it was logic board problems over the phone and it would be 700$ for repair. Please help!

Hard to say ... the only way to tell will be to exchange parts and see if it's gone and that kind of stuff could be anything ... it could even be the power supply.
One thing you could try is to run Xbench and check which test makes things worse (not that this really gives hard data, more like adding to the indications).
Another thing is to download iStat/Pro or a similar tool and check the temps. Maybe just a fan gave up and something is overheating. Possibly (maybe) that's why you could get into iTunes and later stalled at the OS selection (because the longer you leave the machine on, the worse the heat gets).
This is all wild guesswork though ... and I doubt a tech over the phone could determine the root cause with confidence (not without running a test software). And for $700 you could buy a 2nd hand iMac8,1 on eBay and sell yours as parts.

  • Syncing iphone and saying waiting for items to copy

Did all updates to macbook, iphone and ipad.  ipad syncs fine with computer and itunes, iphone goes thru all steps and is at Step 8 of 8, Syncing genius data with "iphone", Waiting for items to copy.
However, nothing happens at this point.  let this step run for 4 hours and nothing further.  Have to manually cancel sync.  Is anyone else having this issue and know of a way to fix?
    Thanks

Well at least I am glad I am not the only person with this issue. I do hope that the Apple tech people read the discussion boards. Just to be clear that my iPhone does synch using iTunes but I get the error on step 7 with: "synching Genius Data to iPhone and waiting for items to copy". If I manually end the synching I get an error message that my phone is still synching do I still want to eject. When I do eject the phone however, the phone and iTunes are indeed synched. It is a bit annoying but I can at least I am able to synch my phone.

  • I was surfing the net when my computer started emitting double beeps. I shut it down with no problem but I can't find any info on double beeps that did not occur at startup (haven't tried starting it back up yet though). What happened?

Quite the trial to sign in to freaking Apple support.  I apparently made an account with my primary e-mail, but damned if I can recover the password, apparently I don't know my own birthday.  So I had to make a new account with another e-mail, and even when I thought it was done, no, I had to fill out more information before I could get to this screen.  You won't let me ask for tech support from your message board without my mailing address?  Then my completely inoccuous user name was rejected for containing banned words.  Lemurs and cats are profane now, what?  This is why I hate computers.
Anyway, I've got Mac OS X 4.something, can't check because it is shut down, and I already described my problem in the subject there before I got dragged back into account creation.  I searched several places for answers but all I can find are discussions about double beeping at startup (even when excluding the word "startup" from search results), while my double beeping started all of a sudden when the computer was in use.  The beeps were certainly less than a minute apart.  What happened? What do I need to do about it? Is it safe to start the computer up again?  Fortunately my files are pretty much all backed up.

I don't know if we are experiencing the same problem, but this is what I did and it seemed to work for me so far.
Before anything I had to hard restart my laptop. hold power button until off then turn back on.
In Finder click on Go, then click Go to Folder.  in the dialogue box type
    /var/db/crls
In that folder there are two files that you need to move to the trash
    crlcache.db
    ocspcache.db
You will need to type in your password to move these to the trash.
Restart your computer and then Empty the Trash.  It is very important that you empty the trash afterwards.  I forgot to do this the first time and I had to restart the whole process.  It has been a few days and I have been without any problems.
I am not claiming this process to be my own, I found it on another discussion thread and it worked for me. I don't have a link to it because I had to use someone else's computer and had no luck trying to find it again. This is the procedure I followed, I do remember it well and I wrote down the steps because I had to do it twice and got tired of combing through all of the websites I have searched looking for a fix to my problem.  Hopefully this helps, and try it at your own risk of course.
Let me know if you try it and it works or not, good luck.

  • MacBook Pro underwent several repairs, problems still persisting. What should I do?

I own a 2010 17" MBP. I have upgraded the RAM from 4GB to 8GB, removed the optical drive and installed the optibay cover (1TB HDD in the optical bay slot and 300GB SSD in the primary). Approximately about a few months before my extended warranty was up, I began experiencing issues and eventually, I was unable to start my computer at all. No fans spin up, no boot screen, no indication the machine in on. The only thing that was functioning was the battery indicator LEDs on the side.
Background (not relevant): This is my primary mobile machine. I own a few desktops I've assembled myself and the MBP. I've used the laptop in several cities and the only repair I've had before this was the display. It had severe light bleeding issues. I take care of my laptop and I've done the upgrades as mentioned above. I actually clean out the dust every 4-6 months or so. It's actually quite amazing how much dust can accumulate in the computer.
Trip #1: Took it to an apple store for repair, the tech told me the logic board had failed and they would have to send it out for repair. They replaced the logic board and the hard drive (apparently bad blocks showed up in the test). Got my laptop back in a little under a week and computer was working great. A couple weeks later, my applecare has expired and the computer begins to shut down randomly.
Trip #2: Go back to the apple store and explain my situation. The genius is curious since the chance of two faulty logic boards is pretty slim. She thinks it might be an issue with the power button itself so she opens up the bottom and attempts to short out the starter pins to start the computer. Nothing happens. She says they will likely have to replace the logic board again and this time the computer will undergo deeper testing to ensure it's good to go. I say great and luckily they have the parts at the store so turnaround time should be quick. Got it back, everything is fine, but again after a few weeks the computer shows the exact same problems.
Trip #3: Somehow the computer comes back to life when I show it to the genius. It boots up just fine. This is the same person I saw from Trip 1 so he's somewhat familiar with the situation. He hooks up the computer and runs the diagnostic. Thermal sensors near the magsafe port is too hot so he says that might the cause all along. He also says that it might be something to do with components under the keyboard? I don't know... Got my computer back yesterday and they ended up replacing the logic board again along with the magsafe board. I used it during the night and once again the computer shut off randomly. I'm sensing some impending doom here, but hopefully it trudges through.
If I add up all the repair costs that Apple has done so far, it's basically the cost of the computer. One display replacement, 3 logic boards, a hard drive, and a magsafe board along with all the labor...
It is becoming extremely irritating to keep going back to the Apple store to get my machine fixed and I cannot keep taking time every other week or so to get it taken care of. I would like to sell the computer and just buy a new one, but who is going to buy a computer with so many issues right after the warranty is gone (all repairs have been free due to the 90-day grace period from a repair). And I won't omit the fact about the repairs either since it's a crummy thing to do and they would be able to find out anyway if a tech at an Apple store looked it up.
Can anyone tell me what my options are if the computer fails again? Or will I just have to endure my computer continually eating logic boards?

    Ok.
Go into Disk Utility, and make sure you select your external hard drive.
There should be 4 tabs, one being erase. I have taken a screenshot to show you what it should be set to (obviously name it what you like), and set the format to Mac OSX Extended (Journaled) as per the example below & after double checking your in the right drive, you can hit erase. And you're done! *hopefully*

  • Itunes Library sharing with multiple ipods and 2 pc's

Hi, I have a new Ipod nano and want to use my wifes itunes library with my ipod. Which according to the tech stuff I can share the content by enabling on wifes pc. Done that, which I can now see library on my Acer laptop. However, I can't sync my playlist from her pc to my itunes. I want to download my own podcasts etc.. not clutter her itunes pc. When I transfer the ipod back to my pc it then wants to delete and re-sync.
We have 3 ipods in the house and 2 pc's.
Whats the best way of using the ipods and getting the most out of itunes?
    Thanks

If you want to connect and use an iPod on more than one computer or with more than one library you need to change the update preference in the iPod Summary tab to "Manually manage music and videos" and click Apply. The content of iTunes and the iPod are not syncronised in this mode so the two can be different. You can directly access the content of the iPod and play it through iTunes and you can drag and drop whatever you want to the iPod from either library:
    Using iPod with Multiple computers
Managing content manually on iPod and iPhone
    Syncing Music to iPod
Something else to be aware of when using an iPod in manual mode is that the "Do Not Disconnect" message will remain on the display until you physically eject the device: Safely Disconnect IPod
There are several different ways to use two iPods with one computer, have a look at this help page for suggestions: How to use multiple iPods with one computer

  • 1st series iMac G5: Booting problems, kernel panics, waking from sleep...

Specifications of the iMac described: 1.8 Ghz, 1GB, 80GB, 64 Mb Nvidia VRAM, Airport, 10.5.5
Back in August 2004 my dad bought us kids an iMac G5 for ‘family use’. It had a fresh install of 10.3.5 on it and compared to the (1999) iMac G3 it replaced it was amazingly fast.
The iMac never showed any signs of probable issues, until we decided to upgrade to Leopard in January 2008. Initially, this upgrade was only meant to be able to sync with the latest iPod nano (who demanded a newer version of iTunes).
After the installation the first thing I noticed was a high CPU usage, the machine seemed slower than ever and that with 1 Gb of RAM (the minimum sys. req. for Leopard are 512 Mb of RAM). Anyway, then the real thing started, it wouldn’t turn on anymore. We brought it to an Authorized Apple Reseller, the Tech department said the Logic board had failed. The costs of the fix weren’t the worth the computer anymore, so...end of story. The iMac was indeed one of the bad series, although it hadn’t any swollen capacitors.
My dad already made up his mind and bought himself a Macbook. He then told me that if I was able to get the broken iMac fixed, I could keep it. And so, I bought an ‘as-is’ logic board on Ebay. Last weekend I installed it, and it actually seemed to work! Yet, the problems are during the startup: the first thing I see is a screen full with horizontal lines flickering all the time, like an old TV with bad signal. Mostly it won’t boot and I get the message to restart the computer (kernel panic, I got dozens of logs already!). Sometimes it got stuck during booting (grey apple screen with gear in the middle) making the fans go crazy (after a while) and sounding what others describe as a ‘jetliner taking off’ sound. Sometimes the screen remains black. Generally it takes me 5 to 10 minutes to start up properly. Maybe it’s just me but it seems like when the computer has warmed up a little (by turning on and off on and on) starting up gets smoother. I mean the startup screen suffers from less horizontal flickering lines.
During the use of Leopard, I again get high CPU usage, especially when I use multiple programs at the same time, or when starting multiple programs. My iStat Pro said once that the fans were running at 4700 rpm and the heat of the CPU was about 70 Celsius. If I really want to **** my iMac off I should play a racing game. That just totally freaks him out! These problems could probably be solved by adding more RAM. Right?
The iMac also has a sleep problem. Sometimes after lets say an hour or so, you can’t get it out of sleep mode (by manipulating keyboard and/or mouse, the sleep light stops, but the screen stays off --> only solution is to restart). What happened to me once was that it slept so long that it just got into a deep sleep by turning itself off completely!
Here’s a list of what I tried so far:
    - Disk Utility: Resetting the permissions, no problems were found.
    - Resetting the SMU, both on the logic board itself as by pressing the power button 5 - 8 seconds, no improvements.
    - Resetting the PRAM, no improvements.
    - Did the Hardware test of the original install CD, nothing was found, all good.
    - Did Archive and Instal, this actually messed my system entirely, cause it wouldn't boot at all and when starting up from the Leopard installation DVD it wouldn't recognize the Macintosh HD.
    - Did Archive and Instal with the original disks, this disk did recognize Macintosh HD and so I installed the original system, 10.3. Booting problems and those flickering lines are still there though.
Next phase will be erase and install, but first I want to know what you guys think about all this.
Oh eh, One more thing; The guys at Applecare (phone support) told me that the replaced logic board was also out of warranty and so they couldn’t help me. But as the man on the phone was kind, he told me to go look for a special ‘driver’ on the net. He said that the driver should be able to resolve some of the issues described. He said that I had to give in the name of the LB on google and look for results. Is this bogus? Because I haven’t found anything useful on google so far. What’s the name (rather than a number) of the LB in the first place?
I hope you guys can give me some answers. I'm kinda desperate. But I still feel there's hope...

The symptoms of a flakey power supply are sleep problems and you have done all the right things as far as resetting the SMU and PRAM. Your CPU usage can be tracked by going to Utilities>Activity Monitor - look and see what is hogging the memory. The flickering lines could also be an optical system going south.
The other thing you can do is run DiskWarrior or TechToolPro to see if you have corrupted directories. Preferential Treatment will let you check for corrupted preferences.

  • Saga of Samsung fridge RB1955VQ with bottom freezer

My saga with the Samsung fridge had a happy ending!
Would You believe it? I wouldn't!
Upon the seventh (yep: 7 th!) visit, Best Buy finally managed to fix the problem!
    Here is what happened:
On the sunday after Thanksgiving, my Samsung fridge RB1955VQ broke down (bought in 2004).
The bottom freezer was working OK, but the upper fridge was not and the display showed 4-61 (instead of 4-38) and sometimes even 4-71.
The Best Buy Geek squad came into action:
    - visit # 1: service technician looked at what is wrong - Display = 4-61. Spare parts were ordered.
    - visit # 2: tech replaced the temperature sensor + fan motor - still not working, display= 4-61
    - visit # 3: tech rechecked wiring of the replaced parts
    - visit # 4: two tech came (one with more experience) to take a look
    - visit # 5: new mother board was installed - fridge would work only for 2-3 minutes and then turns off.
                 Display still showed  4-61!
    - visit # 6: tech came again - to check wiring and connections. More spare parts were ordered.
    - visit # 7: tech replaced the switch + display board. Display= 4-41 at first, and after running one
hour later, 4-38 showed up! Magic! The fridge now works again correctly (as of Feb-20)
The parts that were finally replaced were: 1) the door switch (that controls the light when the door is opened or closed),and 2) the small display board ( temperature display for the upper and lower fridge). (This board was buit inside the front door).
Thank You to Best Buy and in particular its Geek Squad members from the Baltimore, MD area.
The spare parts were replaced free or charge, by the way. I was issued a refund fro the parts.
So, would I buy again from Best Buy?
Definitely YES, their support was friendly, persistent and in the end successful (but I sure wish their service people would be better trained).
Would I buy another Samsung fridge? This is a different matter. I would research the Internet and user opinions first, and also compare to other more etablished brands with a longer service record. This particular model was known to freeze some food in the fridge side (upper part) and to have some water/ice forms under the vegetable drawers.
Thank You again, Best Buy Geek Squad.

I also have a Samsung Fridge but its the side by side model and I did am not having any issues like that. Wow have you called Samsung at all?

  • How to move the Library in Windows- I don't care if I loose everything.

I've spent now at least two hours talking to tech support and scouring the boards and no dice.
    Very simply:
D:\Music\iTunes is where the library is stored
D:\Music\iTunes\iTunes Music is where music is stored.
I want to change the location of the library to:
    D:\iTunes
I don't care about the library content and I can move music files anywhere I want without any issue.
No matter what I do iTunes builds it's database in the D:\Music\iTunes folder.
This shouldn't be so hard to do that even Apple technical product support specialist have to escalate the issue for results... I'm still waiting for a reply.
Thanks in advance for any reply.

    The riddle gets deeper.
Uninstall and Reinstall doesn't allow you to point to a new location again. It did when I first installed because it's not in a default location.
So I think to myself.. it's on the D: drive.. I assigned a differetn drive letter, M:, rebooted and launched iTunes. It says it can't find OR create the folder and doesn't launch.
So with the new drive letter I uninstall and reinstall again hoping it would allow me to select the location.
NOPE it remembers the location you first selected.
The Windows registry doesn't appear to have the location but perhaps it's in there in some machine only language. I don't know.
WHAT HOLDS THE POINTER TO THE iTunes Library!???
