Telnet Client fails to detect Telnet Server reboot

Hello All,
I have written a telnet client that establishes a telnet session with the help of org.apache.commons.net.telnet.TelnetClient to the server and it monitors a particular file. It reads the latest contents written to that file using the tail -F command . The problem I am facing is that the blocking call inputStream.read(int) does not throw an exception even when the telnet server machine reboots, but When network cable is unplugged we are getting an IOException. Due to this behavior my program fails to receive the updates from the file after a machine reboot. Even the telnetClientObject.isConnected() returns true while the machine is rebooting.
Can you please suggest ways to rectify this issue?
Thanks,
Naveen

    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

The Lenovo System Update installed the "Intel Matrix Storage Manager driver 8.9.2.1002" right before the Windows Upgrade got broken. So in the Device Manager under IDE ATA/ATAPI Controllers, I choose Intel ICH9M-E/M SATA AHCI Controller, on the Driver Tab, I choose the option "Roll Back Driver" and after rolling back the driver and restarting the OS, now Windows Update is working like a Champ!
    The End!

    Thanks and Regards

  • Iphone 5 Email client fails when connecting to server with certs signed by personal CA

My mail resides on my own server with its own private CA that was used to sign the email server cert.
I used sendmail and CA and certs were created with below commands:
    CA -newca
openssl req -newkey rsa:1024 -nodes -keyout sendmail_req.pem -out sendmail_req.pem
openssl ca -out sendmail_cert.pem -infiles sendmail_req.pem
Before I switched to iphone 5 I had Iphone 3s and all worked fine.
I would get a notification: cannot verify server identity, but after clicking continue all would work fine.
The client would connect on port 993 to receive email and on port 587 to send.
Now on iphone 5 I get error: Cannot verify Server Identity with no prompt to accept the cert.
Is there any work around for it?
I tried to export the cert from I mac and import to iphone but still no luck.
It looks like since iphone 4 the certs not issues by legal CA's don't work?
    thx

I fixed that by getting certs from: https://www.startssl.com/?app=1.
The certs are free and work fine.
Since Iphone 4 apple does not accept unknown CA Authorities.

  • Clients cannot update from WSUS server - error 8024400E

Alright, so I'm troubleshooting our WSUS server and seem to be stuck. I am running WSUS 3.2.7600.226 on Server 2003.  The client I have been using for testing is Windows 7 x64, but we have this issue on all clients (XP, 7 x86, and 7 x64).  I started
with an error of 800B0001 and after googling installed KB2720211 to fix it. Now I am getting error 8024400E on clients when I attempt to update. I followed a technet walkthrough and verified that my WSUS settings are all correct (at least regarding iis,
registry, gpo settings, and file system permissions). I am able to download CAB files from the WSUS server by going to the proper address in a browser. Here is a snippet from my WindowsUpdate log on my client:

I focused in on "GetAuthorizationCookie failure, error = 0x8024400E, soap client error = 7, soap error code = 400, HTTP status code = 200" and did some googling which all points at Microsoft Office 2003 SP1 update as being the culprit, and I followed
the instructions on a technet site to disable the update and am still getting the same error. I'm stumped at this point, and I thought I would post here in the hope that someone can help me before I end up just wiping it out and reinstalling (which I'm worried
    won't even solve it).

While you're definitely on the right track, the Office2003SP1 update really has not been an issue since WSUS Service Pack 2 was released in October 2009 (and really, the Office2003SP1 update that was the cause of this was replaced long before that even,
so you probably don't even have the defective update on your server).
However, the error is generally associated with the presence of defective update(s) on the WSUS server, so the first thing to do is address any potential issues caused by a failed install of KB2720211.
If the error still persists after verifying that all other aspects of the server are fully operational, review the list of not-Declined updates on your WSUS server and make sure that:
All Expired updates are Declined (and then run the Server Cleanup Wizard and let it delete the expired updates).
All approvals for older revisions have been removed (and then run the Server Cleanup Wizard and let it delete the older revisions).
All approvals for superseded updates have been removed. (And then, when they report as 100% Not Applicable, decline them, and then run the Server Cleanup Wizard so that it can delete the files associated with those updates).
Once all of the potentially problematic updates have been removed from the view of the Windows Update Agent, and if this error then persists, we can evaluate it from a more focused perspective.

  • Clients cant connect to WSUS server after WSUS re-install

    Hi,
I have a 2008 R2 WSUS server that was working and patching fine. I uninstalled and reinstalled WSUS as I wanted to clean up the considerable amount of old update files. I inherited the WSUS job and this server was just a bit too messy so I thought a fresh
WSUS would be less time consuming.
After the reinstall though no clients report to the server anymore. I can ping the server, and hit it via IE. If I try update a client I get the common error 80072EFD. I have the latest log from WindowsUpdate.log

It was working fine before the removal. I cant figure it out at all and have tried everything google returns.
    Thanks

I have a 2008 R2 WSUS server that was working and patching fine. I uninstalled and reinstalled WSUS as I wanted to clean up the considerable amount of old update files.
After you reinstalled WSUS did you also reinstall the required patch.. to wit, in this case, KB2938066?
While Don is correct about the port, in this case, it's not a port mismatch causing the problem. Attempting to communicate with a valid WSUS server on port 8530 that is actually installed on port 80 would return an HTTP 404 error on the selfupdate task.
Likewise a failed installation to port 8530 with missing selfupdate resources would also return an HTTP 404.
This is a CANNOT_CONNECT error: 0x80072EFD, indicating that either the client has the wrong hostname, the IPAddress has changed (and DNS not updated) -- neither of which are likely for a simple reinstall of WSUS -- or some other network issue is interfering
with the client's ability to communicate with the WSUS server... NONE of which should be of consideration when doing a simple reinstallation of WSUS.
So, either more than just a simple reinstallation of WSUS happened, or something else also occurred in the network concurrently.

  • Client can not contact WSUS server.

    Hello everyone
    I have a WSUS 3.0 server (v3.2.7600.226) and 3 test clients.
The WSUS server is on subnet xxx.xx.30.xx
Client1 is on the same subnet as WSUS (no problem receiving updates)
Client2 is on subnet 52(no problem receiving updates)
Client3 is on subnet 25 (can not contact WSUS, therefore does not receive updates)
All the clients are standalone machines, they do not belong to any domain.
What I tried so far with no success:
    disabled firewall on server
tried this fixit on the client: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/836941/en-us
Stopped wuauclt and bits services, renamed
    %windir%/SoftwareDistribution folder, restarted services
Read a number of forum posts and blogs but could not find a solution.
    Client3 Facts:
It is a fresh windows 7 installation, no updates have been installed.
Can ping the FQDN and IP address of WSUS server.
Unlike Client1 and 2, Client3 can not visit the ISS7 web page when I enter the FQDN on a browser.
Run checkdiag.exe which reported the following:
    wuaueng.dll version 7.6.7600.256....PASS

If anyone has any suggestions please do reply.
    Many thanks for your time.

    Client3 Facts:
It is a fresh windows 7 installation, no updates have been installed.
I'm having an issue with this statement, although I don't think it's a contributing factor. I'm skeptical how a "fresh Win7 installation" can get a v7.6 WUA installed... Win7RTM shipped with v7.4, and Win7SP1 shipped with v7.5 ... so SOMETHING updated this
    machine to WUA v7.6!
Unlike Client1 and 2, Client3 can not visit the ISS7 web page when I enter the FQDN on a browser.
This is your key consideration right here. If the browser can't get to the webserver, then the WUA ain't never gonna be able to get to the webservices hosted on that webserver.

  • Client failing to recieve update via WSUS

I have created a virtual lab environment and I am testing WSUS.
I have deployed and configured my WSUS server as well as creating a GPO to point clients to my server.
When manually checking for updates through windows update I receive error code 80244019.
I have reviewed the update logs and feel there is an issue contacting my WSUS server. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated

During my initial investigation I had already confirmed both the background BITS and windows update services were running.
I can confirm that after checking my policy and amending the "Specify intranet Microsoft update service location" to the following, to include the correct port
    http://App1.corp.contoso.com:8530
I have been able to resolve the issue.

  • Telnet client - multiple servers

    Hi,
Is it possible to configure multiple telnet servers on the rf terminal's telnet client?
The ideia is to give the user (of the rf terminal) the possibilty to (easily) choose between different telnet servers.
    Greetings,
    NB

Did you explicitly assign a port for the client? If not, it probably was assigned automatically. So it's likely you have 3 ports connected to a server each. Since you are connected to each server on a separate thread, you'll want to receive the data from each server separately. How did you verify that data was received from one server for a few seconds before switching to the next server?

  • Telnet client help

    hi
i wanna build a telnet client , that simply connects to a telnet server and exceute a program ...
What should i do for getting started ???
    Regards,
    Asad

I recall that the O'Reilly book Java Examples in a Nutshell had a telnet client as one of the examples. If they make their example source code available at oreilly.com that would be a good place to check.

  • Telnet Client?

Hey, brand new Mac user here, and pretty much a novice in all things computer related. I'm enrolled in a web publishing class through my university and I'm trying to get away with using iweb, however I'm not entirely sure how to publish to the universities browser. I've got one guy telling me what I need is a "telnet client" again, novice, not a clue what that means or where to locate that. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

    browser.
Instead of "browser" you mean "server."

    You need an ftp client.
Here are some tips for using iWeb with other servers:

  • Telnet Client Application using J2ME

    Hi all ,
we are implementing RFC 854 a Telnet Client Application using J2ME.
we used socket connection and able to get the connection and response, then telnet server is asking to enter username, when we enter the user name it's taking the user name asking to us to enter the password ,when we enter the password it's giving garbage value in Nokia Devices but working fine with Sony Ericsson devices.please suggest any solution why it's giving garbage value in Nokia Devices.
this is very urgent we are not able to track the problem.
    Thanks and Regards
    Srikant Bureddy.

did you check *[Forum Nokia - Mobile J2ME Applications|http://www.forum.nokia.com/Technology_Topics/Development_Platforms/Java.xhtml|Nokia resources]*?

  • Request: Sendmail and telnet client

Really would like sendmail as we use it at work. I am playing with exim now but 1 mta is enough to get lost in.
Also need a different telnet client. I see that there are 2 listed, but one of them requires xinetd (don't need - don't want), and the other (putty) dosen't play well with exim. Seems that putty creates a SMTP protocol violation when it connects to port 25 - exim dosen't respond. Seems to work with sendmail though.
    -Shawn

Try ssh to port 25... it won't work.
    -Shawn
    Lifted from yolinux.com:
This is a sample of the dialog an e-mail client makes when connecting to an SMTP server for sending mail:
       telnet server-name 25     - SMTP communicates on port 25. See: /etc/services
HELO your-domain          - This identifies the source of the mail.
HELP                      - List the SMTP commands that are supported. (Included FYI and not part of a typical dialog)
       MAIL FROM: your-email-address
       RCPT TO: recipient-email-address
DATA                      - End of DATA section is punctuated with a single dot on it's own line.
       Subject: E-mail-Subject
       Text of e-mail goes here
       .                         - The single dot
       QUIT
SMTP return codes let the e-mail client know if all went well.
See: RFC 822 for more information.

  • Having problems with a Java Telnet Client

I'm trying to write a Telnet Client(for a mud). I've searched the forum but can't seem to find the answer to my problem. The mud sends the ANSI color codes, is there anyway to get java to interpret this, or will I have to make a parser and do all the work by hand?

Try looking up RFC854 & RFC855. A Google Search will give several references. Other Searches include "Interpret As Command", and "Telnet IAC Options".
    The keys to telnet communications:
    1. Unless it is explicitly a command, it is data.
    2. All Commands start with the Interpret As Command (IAC) character, decimal 255 or hexidecimal ff.
    3. IAC DO/DONT/WILL/WONT Negotiations for a Telnet Option occurs before IAC SB/SE Subnegotiations. DON'T/WON'T is the default Telnet Network Virtual Terminal (NVT) setting for all options.
    4. All Negotiations complete before you get to the data phase.
    5. Be ready for Negotiations, at the start and during the middle of the Telnet Session....
Here is an example of decoding Telnet
The remote host may start with the following, shown in decimal:
    255, 253, 3, 255, 253, 24, etc...
Viewed as UTF text, this appears to be some "y" characters with special accents above them.
    Cheat Sheet:
255 == Interpret As Command (IAC)
    254 == DON'T, as is "I DON'T support xyz...."
253 == DO, as in "I DO support xyz..."
    252 == WON'T, as in "You WON'T support abc..."
251 == WILL, as in "You WILL support abc..."
    250 == SuBnegotiations Start (SB)
    240 == Subnegotiations End (SE)
    The above has 2 commands:
    - 255, 253, 3 == IAC DO Suppress Go Ahead
    - 255, 253, 24 == IAC DO Terminal Type
    Appropriate Responses could be:
    - 255, 251, 3, 255, 251, 24, etc....
    OR
    - 255, 252, 3, 255,252, 24, etc...
    OR
    - 255, 251, 3, 255, 252, 24, etc...
    OR
    - 255,252, 3, 255, 251,24, etc...
Once you get the remotes questions answered, you can move on to the real work of passing data.
    Cheers,
    Joel.
