TEMPLATE AND PAGE TITLE MX2004

I have started to use a template for a web site for the first
time - all is going well except that I am unable to change the page
title for individual pages which have the template applied.
I believe I have made the title an editable region in the
template but when I add a title in a page the text reverts to
"Untitled Document." When I attempt to modify the page title in
page properties I get the error message "All of this page's
properties are locled by a template, so you can't edit them."
My question must be, how do I make the page title
editable?

You probably created your template like this -
FILE | Save As..., then you saved it in the Templates folder
with a *.dwt
extension.
The correct way is like this -
FILE | Save As Template..., and let DW do the heavy lifting
for you.
You can fix your situation by making the head region of your
template look
like the head region of the new template (use copy/paste).

Problems with template and page links..

Hello community!
I'm pretty new to dreamweaver Cs4 and am having a slight problem. I have my template.dwt file and 5 other pages which use this template layout. However when I preview my website in my browser, the template.dwt file links to all the pages, however when I click on another link (a page link) once on this page, the hyperlinks from the navigation cant be clicked. In other words the navigation turns into just text and no hyperlinks.
I want to be able to click on any page on my website using the navigation bar, so i can go back and forth onto pages all over my website using my navigation.
Anyone know what to do or a solution to allow me to have all the links working from the template

You are being confused by a) not understanding root relative vs document
relative links, and b) not understanding how DW previews files.
If I have a document with a link to an image that looks like this -
<img src="/images/foo.gif"...
That's what's called a root relative link.
If I preview that document in DW, then the browser gets the document, sees
the leading "/" and reads that as the root of the hard drive, since the
browser has no idea where the root of the site is. Thus, the image is
broken in the preview.
If I have temp files enabled, then DW will secretly convert the file being
previewed into a temporary file, and hand that to the browser. This temp
file has had all root relative links converted to document relative links
(as you will see by looking at the code in the browser), and has had all
include files actually embedded in the page, and has had all external CSS
and js markup embedded in the page. In other words, DW has made the
document into a stand-alone page.
If you do not have temp files enabled, all of these links would be broken on
preview.
Now - if you are using root relative links, AND you have temp files enabled,
AND you click away from the previewed document, then all of your links will
be broken, since DW has not made that linked file into a temp file. This is
what you are seeing.
So - if you want to click away on preview, then you must use document
relative links for the site -
<img src="../images/foo.gif"... (for example)
These will still work on preview since the browser knows how to determine
the current file's location and how to follow that path.

Contribute 3 and page titles

Our original website was created in Dreamweaver by someone
else. Two of the pages I have changed the name of the page in
Contribute, however when I go on the internet to our site and I
click on that page, in the address at the top it still shows the
old name of the page under the https:// information. How would I
change these two pages to reflect the correct name in https:// at
the top??

Yes you can do it using an FTP client or you can edit the
same page and can Publish a new copy of it using
"File->Actions->Publish as New Page..." option. So one more
copy of it will be created. After this you can also delete the old
page. Browse to the old page and select
"File->Actions->Delete Page".

Feature request: auto-complete by typing Page Title (not only URL)

I'm switching from Firefox to Safari.
I really miss new Firefox auto URL complete feature.
Please add it in the future updates.
I can start typing a word in address line, and a drop-list of URLs appears with URLs AND Page titles.
Example of a desired behavior.
Lets say I've visited a week ago an article-page titled "World History" located here http://www.hyperhistory.com/onlinen2/Historyn2/a.html
Now week later I dont remember the URL, i want to start typing "world history" and a drop list appears of URLs with Page Titles that contain this in a page title (but not necessarily in URL).
Also if I would type "history" , i want URL "www.hyperhistory.com" to appear in results because it is part of an URL (doesnt matter if its the second word, it should be there.

Please let me know if that is possible with current Safari 3.2.1.

As far as I am aware it's not possible for Safari to do that.

In Pages I used to be able to edit a template and "save a version" to update the template. Now i have to rename the template to save the changes. Why is this happening? what happen to "save a version"? its no longer an option under "file".

In your description you say the first document opens as the Title you gave it.
Templates always open as Untitled so it sounds like you have saved a regular document, perhaps into your templates folder which is possible.
Since you have already worked on it and it has been previously saved, Lion will now Save for you and Save a Version is available
The other document does open as Untitled so sounds like a real template and as Peggy has pointed out will not have either Revert nor Save a Version until you Save it and have changed something in it.
This is a classic example of just how Apple's supposedly "simplification" of the process, is leading to confusion of what has happened. That the conditions and resulting actions from those conditions is so convoluted says it all.
It all reminds me of the Monty Python Life of Brian sketch with the "simplified" John Cleese instructions to the class, as to if you have a brother in an older dorm whether to hang your hat and bag on the hooks provided. The trouble is Apple does not get the joke, that it is transforming itself into a frequently self contradictory bumbling bureacracy. The price of unchallenged self appointed geniushood.

Page designer show small view when using page template and cannot be run

Dear Experts,
I need to make some page templates.
I have build 2 simple page templates, let say template0 & template1 which template1 using template0.
It show no any problem until I close my Jdeveloper & reopen it.
When I reopen template1, it show so small in designer (Jdeveloper window).
Is there any wrong?
I have build another template, just 1 template.
When I used it at the first time, no any strange behavior occur.
After ... (I don't exactly when), it give me the same view in my designer.
Then I force to use my first tempate (template1 which used template0 inside), I cannot run my application at all.
After wait several minutes, I found error log in my log messages.
*#### Server Instance DefaultServer could not be started: Server Instance was terminated.*
Above the message, I found another error messages:

I use AHM000 inside AHM001. I use this approach to build many template based on one basic design.
Actually, I don't think the problem is in page template usage because as I submitted paralel to Metalink, I've already not called template0 in template1 but I copy template0's contents to template1.
Unfortunately, page designer show small view and below error messages still occured.

Creating a template in Pages is straight-forward as answered here previously. Is there and equivalent for iBooks Author which can start with a blank page and build up the template as required? or can one only adapt a ready made template?

This has proved unsatisfactory to me so far. Lines are left in etc.

There are two basic menus for fonts - one from the main menu bar and one from the toolbar. You can also bring up the font manage dialog.
I don't recommend trying to hard to force an otherwise foreign font, as it inevitably needs to be usable/supported on iOS as well, and that can get tricky w/3rd party fonts, as an example, even with the expanded font support in the latest iBA.
If you need to discuss fonts more, I suggest starting a new thread....preferably with a slightly more brief title, thanks.

section on the template empty so that I can insert a specific title
for each page. However, everytime I edit the template and update
hte other files the Titles on the files disappears.
Is there anyway to avoid this so that the titles of each page
does not have to be re-entered everytime you edit the
template?

YOur template has not been properly made if this is
happening. Try creating
a NEW template from a blank page using FILE | Save As
Template... Make the
title tag in your current template look like the one in the
new template by
manually adding the required editable region. If you also
will want to add
behaviors to these pages you will also need to copy the
editable region
called "head".

Template and child pages do not match

Hi, there are several issues here and I'm pretty sure they're linked so I'll tell you them all. I was recently editing my website and I was changing the title of a page a created. I noticed that after I changed the name, when I clicked off it it just went back to the default title in the template. I then looked up how to sort and I think I changed a few bit of coding (I can't remember what though, sorry. It seemed to work. Then I decided to add another page which I listed in the navbar... when I got round to pressing save on the template, this happened....

Is there any way I can just create a new template to match the pages already created?
Sorry if I sound silly but this is my first post on these forums and I'm not really sure what you need to know.

You can do everything, (and I mean absolutely EVERYTHING) in a regular HTML page that you can do in a DWT, and you don't have any of the parent/child/editable/non-editable/nested/nesting region problems that you will get with DWT's until you are very highly proficient at coding HTML and know exactly how to lay one out from the start so these things don't happen.
DWT's are good for putting together a "mockup" to show a client, and have a good idea of the layout you will eventually use. They are also good for a teaching tool (the only time I ever created one was part of a class). If you have a group of people working on a site together, they are helpful too, but if none of the above apply, just make a plain HTML page and "Save As" when you need to make additional pages from it.

Cannot give titles to DW template-based pages

Hi; I'm trying to give titles to my html pages that have been
based on a .dwt file, but each time I put in a new title and save,
"untitled document" returns as a default. I WAS able to title the
index, which was not based on the template. I could detatch all
from the template and name them, but I don't want to do this
obviously... Any suggestions?

Do this -
Create a new page (Basic HTML).
Use FILE | Save as Template....
Look at the code in the head region of the page, particularly
the editable
region around the <title> tag, and the other editable
region in the head
called "head".
Make your template file look like that.
Always use FILE | Save as Template when you create your
templates and you
won't have this problem again.

Template page title locked

I have created a template and DW CS4 has automatically placed
the page title in the non-editable region of the document. When I
create any pages using the template it will not allow me to rename
them. How do I fix this?

Stop Template From Overwriting Page Title

I have a site of several hundred pages that I want to apply a
template to. All the pages are already properly titled with the
Title tag that I want. However, when I apply the DreamWeaver
templates to the page, it overwrites the Title. Any advice on how
to avoid this so that the original titles aren't overwritten when a
template is applied?
Also, is there any way to apply a template to more than one
page at a time or do I have to open every file one at a time, apply
the template, save, then start that routine over again?
I am using Dreamweaver CS3.

Not really. But this is not the best way to do it anyhow. I
would always
suggest that you create a new page from the template, copy
and paste from
the existing page into the new page, and then save the new
page over the old
one.

Adding Page Titles and Descriptions

Hey Folks,
How do I create an editable field in a template so that I can add <Title> and meta descriptions to individual pages? Many Thanks for the help, I'm not the most skilled coder!

Yes and no, be very careful.
- Using that will add head and body html to your page content even if you use a template. Check out the html. Not good.
- If you add a description, remove it and add it again or edit it you get empty description tags inserted into the head above the current description meta.
- If you/client has used the Old interface meta stuff then use that it will add to your meta not change it.
- Page Title for pages, products etc is not synced with that inline on a page/product name/web app name and so changing that will either double up again or not update the title depending on what your in be it a page or product.
^ That is just a few of the more obvious issues with that.
So keep that in mind

Pages stores those you created & saved as templates in (your account) > Library > Application Support > iWork > Pages > Templates > My Templates. The door to the user's Library is hidden in Lion but it is easy to open. In Finder, hold down the Option key while clicking on the Go menu & your users Library will appear about halfway down the list.
