Template versus index page

I am designing a website with dreamweaver making a template.  The template for the home page is pretty much done.  Then I discovered that I not only need to make a template for the home page but a template for the pages I am connecting to the home page.  (I had thought that after I made the home page template, I would save that as my index page?)  My question is:  Do I need both?  When I upload it to my webhost, do I upload the template with the content, and the index page, or do I keep the template stored on my computer and then upload the site as just an index page plus the content pages picture files etc.?

The actual Dreamweaver Template (.dwt file) never gets uploaded, unless you want to share it with someone for some reason, like debugging.
.DWT files are only used by DW, not the server. Once you create a .dwt and have it saved in the Templates folder of your Defined Site, you will need to create Child Pages based off of it.
To do that, in DWCC...
1. Click File > New
2. Click Site Templates
3. Click the site where the template you want to use is located
4. Click the name of the template you want to use
5. Click Create
6. Make your edits to the Editable Regions of the newly created Child Page
7. Save the Child Page as whatever you like (index.html is a good starting point)
From there on out, if you make a change to the actual .dwt file, those changes will propagate to all of the Child Pages created in the above manner in your Defined Site.

  • Links in template not working with index page

    Forgive me, I'm a beginner. I have a site I've built using a
template with a header, footer and a side navigation bar. I need to
be able to update the navigation bar regularly. The template is in
the "templates" folder, most pages are in a "pages" folder, and the
index is at the top level (obviously). But the nav bar from the
template doesn't work for the index page - I get an error in which
the path is missing the site name folder. If I move the index page
into the pages folder, it does work - but then the links within the
text of the index page don't work, and the link back to the index
page from the other pages doesn't work either. I can FORCE them all
to work by fiddling with the path names outside of Dreamweaver, but
that's not a practical long-term solution. What am I doing
    wrong?

I want to control the height of an index page window when it

    If you look at this page;

It has a fixed size onload.

  • Create a an Table of content or an Index page in report in Oracle BI Publisher

I want to create an Index page for my multi page report in Oracle BI Publisher. Any help would be appreciated.
I am using MS word 2010 for creating the template (*.rtf file). Please let me know if any more details are required.
I am creating a rtf template for generating a report in oracle BI Publisher. The report displays the details for all the products used by the customer. Report contains 1 product per page. All the products have same template.
What I want is to create an Index page, which displays the product name and the page number of the report in which it is generated.
For eg. Customer Papa Johns uses 10 products. The report generated will contain below details: 1st Page -> Cover Page containing Basic details of customer.
2nd Page -> Index page containing the product names and the page numbers
    3rd page: Product 1 details
    4th page: Product 2 Details .
    and so on.
    INDEX
    Product Name Page No.
    Anchovies 4
    Apple Topping 5
    Bacon 6
    Barbecue Sauce 7
    Barbecue Sauce2 8
    Chicken Topping 9
    Dough 10
Please note that the number of product will be variable(may increase or decrease), hence there may be case when the index page takes more that 1 or 2 pages just to print the product names and their respective page numbers.

    Hi Alex,
    Many thanks for replying.
I followed the link, but unable to get correct output.. I have shared the template earlier. I can share the template once again.
It would be grateful if you give me share the working template with table of content.

  • Muse created index page not available on BC

I'm creating a website on Muse and have published it as a temporary file to BC.  All pages, files, images, etc. are there except for my index page! I have published and re-published multiple times and still can't find it on my page list.  Another strange thing is there are no site management features, (i.e., modules, templates, etc) to use on my admin panel.  I would really appreciate any help for the community.
    Thank you!

I'm not sure why you would think I don't have access to that. I'm an Adobe Cloud member and as such I can process five websites through BC.  Anyway, I've already used the BC admin panel for a couple of sites I was fooling around with in order to get the hang of things.  The other two, as the one I'm writing about, were also created in Muse and published as temporary sites on BC. This is the site address: http://sassanoassociates.businesscatalyst.com/
Here is the admin panel link:  http://sassanoassociates.businesscatalyst.com/AdminConsoleXT/#dashboard
I intend on publishing the site through BC as I have a right to do.
As for my questions, there are three issues now with this one site.
    1. The index (home) page is not publishing from Muse to BC - the others are.
    2. There is no way to access the site management elements such as 'content holders' and 'module templates'.
    3. Having problem with the  'Services' page.  It was working ok until I added some html blocks (in Muse).
I'm very frustrated as I have attempted to find answers to these problems to no avail.  I realize that I am probably not doing something or should have done something in order to make this work, however, I'm not new at designing sites and it's very difficult when working with a new platform to not be able to find answers.
I have committed to publishing this site within a week for my client. I would really appreciate some guidence with this situation as quickly as possible.
I'm pasting a copy of one of the other sites which I created exactly the same way and has all the management elements and features right there.  I need my admin panel for the site in question to look like that!!
My account email is [email protected]
    Thanks.

  • Photo index page

I want to create a photo index page with links on it to all my published photo folders. How do I do this without all those folders showing up on the top bar menu on all the pages. I just want to keep a simple Home - News - Photos menu.

A search in this topic would answer your question immediately, since this has already been dealt with many, many times. Short answer: 1) uncheck 'Include page in navigation menu' (Page Inspector) for each of your photo albums. 2) create a page (don't use the Photo template) with a representative image for each of your photo albums. 3) Use 'Enable as a hyperlink' in the Link Inspector to link each image to the appropriate photo album.
Many examples of this approach in action have been provided by many people. One is on my own iWeb site, here:

  • Apply template to html pages in dreamweaver 2004

How do I apply a template to html pages in dreamweaver 2004?
The template has editable regoins. Will this effect it?
Why do I get an orphan message when I try to apply the
    template to new pages?

You don't want to apply templates to pages. Instead use FILE
    | New > Page
from Template > site name > template name, spawn a new
    page, and use this
page for the content. THis is not really an issue for a brand
    new page, but
if the page already has content when you apply the template,
    you'll see what
    I mean.
You are being confused by a) not understanding root relative
    vs document
relative links, and b) not understanding how DW previews
    files.
If I have a document with a link to an image that looks like
    this -
    <img src="/images/foo.gif"...
    That's what's called a root relative link.
If I preview that document in DW, then the browser gets the
    document, sees
the leading "/" and reads that as the root of the hard drive,
    since the
browser has no idea where the root of the site is. Thus, the
    image is
    broken in the preview.
If I have temp files enabled, then DW will secretly convert
    the file being
previewed into a temporary file, and hand that to the
    browser. This temp
file has had all root relative links converted to document
    relative links
(as you will see by looking at the code in the browser), and
    has had all
include files actually embedded in the page, and has had all
    external CSS
and js markup embedded in the page. In other words, DW has
    made the
    document into a stand-alone page.
If you do not have temp files enabled, all of these links
    would be broken on
    preview.
Now - if you are using root relative links, AND you have temp
    files enabled,
AND you click away from the previewed document, then all of
    your links will
be broken, since DW has not made that linked file into a temp
    file. This is
    what you are seeing.
So - if you want to click away on preview, then you must use
    document
relative links for the site -
    <img src="../images/foo.gif"... (for example)
These will still work on preview since the browser knows how
    to determine
the current file's location and how to follow that path.

  • Want Index page to have image on.

Hello, I'm new to dreamweaver & have just amended a
website using Dreamweaver that was originally created with Golive.
My problem is that the index.html is using frames, I think, -
side.html, -main.html (which is blank), and on other pages also,
    -top.html.
I would like the index.html, or opening page to contain an
image and text, however when I insert something it comes up on the
other pages that use that frame, for example when you click on the
'sport' navigation button. Any help would be much appreciated.
    Website is
    http://www.keithfearon.com
    Thanks

Here is your frameset markup -
    <frameset border="0" cols="120,*" frameborder="no"
    framespacing="0"
    onLoad="CSScriptInit();">
    <frame name="kfside" noresize scrolling="no"
    src="kfside1.html">
    <frameset border="0" frameborder="no" framespacing="0"
    rows="80,*">
    <frame name="kftop" noresize scrolling="no"
    src="kftop.html">
    <frame name="kfmain" noresize src="kfmain.html">
    </frameset>
It looks like the page you want to edit is the kfmain.html
    page.
Open that page in DW, add the image, and save it.

  • Applying templates to new pages

Is there anyway to apply a template to a page when it is copied?  for example, a new user registers, and their folder is created with index.php, wihch was copied from a source, which had a template applied to it.  I don't understand why the template wouldn't also be applied to the index.php? I want to be able to update these pages all at once, instead of having to individually update each one.
    thanks.

Your Files panel (F8) should look like this:
    site - YourSiteName (C:\YourSiteName)
         index.html
         -OtherPages
              page1.html
              page2.html
         -Templates
              template.dwt
If your .dwt file is located in any location other than the Templates folder, it won't work.
Templates are not a server-side technology.  Templates only work on local files in Dreamweaver.
I suggest you open your template and examine the code to ensure it is valid and that the Editable Regions are properly defined.
    http://validator.w3.org/
Then open a child page made from that template to ensure it is pointing to the correct Template.dwt file in your Templates folder.

  • Templates for existing pages

If I have an index.shtml page, that has some flash, and
dropdown menus, and on the left, a menu created in fireworks that I
exported into DW. The middle portion is the only area that changes
    from page to page.
I want to make a template. These are the steps I have taken:
    1. Open index.shtml
    2. Save as template
    3. Make the region in the middle "Editable"
Then apply template to page "Index"
Once I do this I can't edit anything, its locked?
Where am I going wrong. s it the way I have my layout tables
    and cells.
    I can't figure it out/
    Thanks,
    Greg

You have the wrong procedure. Never apply a template to a
    page with
existing content (well, if you can avoid it, and it sounds
    like you can).
Spawn the child page first, and then add your content to the
    child page.

    text html page.

Sure editable regions should be editable. If you can't see
    your content,
then something is wrong with your method or your code or
    both.

We'd need to see the page to comment on this.

  • Indexing page

I understand that Pages cannot index from the discussions on this board. What I am curious about is the Index page in section view. What is this function and how does it work?  Is this done manually? I know I am probably missisng something here, but  would love to know why there is this page, when an index is impossible.
    Thanks for the elucidation!
    C.

    Carole,
It certainly isn't impossible to create an index in Pages; there just aren't tools to automate the process.
The drop down list that you show isn't "just in Pages." The list of pages is contained in the particular document. Each template starts out with one or more pages built in to it and you can add more of your own by "capturing" a page that you have created. If you open a document that started with a different template, you will see a different list.
I haven't been able to find that index page in the standard templates, but I may have overlooked it. At any rate, that example looks pretty simple: a three column layout with two paragraph styles, plus a title at the top. Just collect a list of topics, sort them alphabetically, condense duplicates and add the letter headings.

  • How to crate a page template for multiple page instances?

    Hello,
When I use the Administration Portal to create a page with portlets in the Portal Resource Library, I can choose to use that page it in my portal. The problem is that I can use it only once. How can I crate a page template with portlets so I can use use it as a template for many page instances in one portal?
    I'm using Portal 8.1.6.

The implication is that this is a temporary condition which will be alleviated after some delay. If known, the length of the delay may be indicated in a Retry-After header. In weblogic 10.3.6, when you deploy using console, you have to click on start button which appears in Deployments page.
Your weblogic.xml file should be as below:
    <?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8"?>
    <wls:weblogic-web-app xmlns:wls="http://xmlns.oracle.com/weblogic/weblogic-web-app" xmlns:xsi="http://www.w3.org/2001/XMLSchema-instance" xsi:schemaLocation="http://java.sun.com/xml/ns/javaee http://java.sun.com/xml/ns/javaee/web-app_2_5.xsd http://xmlns.oracle.com/weblogic/weblogic-web-app http://xmlns.oracle.com/weblogic/weblogic-web-app/1.3/weblogic-web-app.xsd">

  • Rediect particular URLs to index page

    Hi,
From Apache1.3, I have to redirect all the URLs coming from port http://mydomain.com:9001/servlet/* to a index page (index.html).
I tried giving "Redirect" directive under mod_alias
    Redirect /servlet http://mydomain.com:9001/index.html
but it is looking for http://mydomain.com:9001/index.html/* and is not redirecting it to the file. How can I do this.

    Allie,
Can you tell me how you figured out how to have one index page link to a 2nd index page like the california example you described?
I am trying to do exactly that but layout is not happening the way I would like so i think I am doing something wrong
    Thanks
    Patrick
