Tempo in loops

How to adjust my chosen drum loop to match the track I played on my electric guitar?
GH

you really need to do it the other way around, play your guitar to the click (drum) track. you're not going to be able to match the tempo of a freely played guitar because it won't be in perfect time.

  • Tempo-synced loops in EXS24

    Hi,
how can I make an EXS24 instrument with custom loops that sync to the given BPM?
Now, I first play (MIDI) notes/parts, quantize them, convert them to audio files, then create a new sampler instrument from the created regions. This method is almost what I need, but now I want my samples to match the given BPM.
Maybe it's important to say that eventually this sample instrument needs to be beat-synced in MainStage.
Thanks in advance for you help,
    Jasper.
PS: I'm running the latest Logic Studio (with Logic Pro 9.1 & MainStage 2.1)

    Since I'm a newbie:
    - what's the quickest way to do this (I have several - 40 or so - samples on one track in Logic Pro)? Or do I have to load them one by one in Apple's Loop Utility?
    - is there a way to use these Apple loops in MainStage (because that's eventually the purpose) and will they still sync to the given tempo?
    Thanks again,
    Jasper.

  • Tempo of Loops

Everytime I Create my own loop no matter how fast or slow it is the temp comes up at 120bpm which i know isnt't right. is there any way to correct this (please dont stop the music acapella saved at 120 bpm as did shai- if i ever fall in love which is a slow song also saved at 120 bpm) can anyone help me with that i'm starting to hate this program... alot of things to don but none of them are easy

I'm not aware of a way to do that.. I went looking for that recently. I know that stylus lets you.

Is there another way to adjust tempo of loops the faster way, any other technique?

No clue why the final processes have suddenly started to take so long. Two things I'd try: a) capture from an older tape to see if some problem with the new tape is at fault.  And b) check the health of your RAM and the hard drive.
The red frame sounds a bit like a glitch we used to have in OnLocation (actually in its predecessor HDV Rack) which was caused by a partial GOP. But that was a product of HDV Rack recording from the live video stream. It turned out that HDV cameras intentionally interrupt the data stream for an instant upon starting to record--specifically to avoid recording a partial GOP to tape. So my gut says that the tape has partial GOPs at the points where you stopped/started recording.

  • How can I change the tempo of a drum loop?

Ok so I have the rhythm pack and lot's of drum loops. They are all insanely fast. It's hilarious, I can't find a single loop with just a constant hi hat tap suitable for the beginning of a slow rock song.
More importantly, there doesn't seem to be a way to adjust the tempo of just the drum loops. It seems like it should be an easy thing but I've tried everything and looked all over google.
Please, if there's a work around to slowing down these 2000+ super fast drum loops, help!
    Thanks

The drum loops should adjust to the tempo of your song, also in the preview. So if you set your song to a crazy fast tempo, all loops will play very fast!

  • Homemade Apple Loops (w/Loops Utility) won't show up in Loop Browser

I just finished making a whole batch of homemade Apple Loops. Through Logic I opened up each audio file in the Apple Loops Utility, marked its tempo, marked "Looped" and then did the transients window to make sure it sounded good, then did "Save" or "Save All" from the Apple Loops Utility task tray.
I then dumped that folder full of custom loops into my loop browser for catalog'ing, but for some reason only about 10 of them show up when I click "All" to see all the loops in that folder.
So I re-opened the entire batch in Apple Loops Utility and made tiny changes to each loop's transients, just enough to trigger the dot next to the loop that means "you need to save these changes" - and I resaved the entire batch.
Tried the add-to-loop-browser process again, and again, only those initial 10 loops showed up in the browser again. The remaining 190 won't pop up.
I can't figure out what's missing or what I did wrong.  Any ideas?

    FIXED!
If you run into this same problem:
In order for your homemade loops to show up in Logic's Loop Browser, when in the Apple Loops Utility you need to select at least one "Descriptor" - if you don't, the loop won't appear in the browser.  Even if you don't need a Descriptor, just batch-select all of your loops in the tray and then pick 1 Descriptor, resave, and re-drop into Apple's Loop Browser.

  • How do I change the rhythm style in apple loops?

Most of the drums in apple loops are 4/4. Where are rhythms like in "This Boy" (The Beatles) , or like in "Shine on you Crazy Diamond (Pink Floyd) ?
Can you transform a 4/4 to a rhythm like described above?

"This Boy" if memory serves is in 12/8.  I think there are some 12/8 tempos in Loop format.  Even if there are not you can "crazy up" your tempo by dragging and "sorta like" loop into the arrange panel and whittling off the bits you don't like, or duplicating additional meter into an individual bar.  Then you can duplicate it.
One size rarely fits all; sometimes you have to tailor stuff to fit your needs.

  • Adobe 3.0.1 BUGFIX PATCH is released

Okay, something that a lot of you have waited for for quite a while, and some simply didn't believe would ever happen...
    You can get it
here. Quite a lot of small things have been attended to, and quite a few of us haven't managed to crash it at all, despite trying quite hard!
    Additional information from forum host:-
Download size is less than 14MB - it's not anything like the size of the original program download.
In case you missed the link in SteveG's post, it's as follows -
    http://www.adobe.com/support/downloads/product.jsp?product=92&platform=Windows
The changes in Adobe Audition 3.0.1 are as follows:
Spectral tools no longer crash machines with more than four CPU cores.
The Graphic Phase Shifter effect has been reenabled.
Performance while recording MIDI data has been improved.
The Sequencer will now record MIDI data even if the panel is closed.
Adobe Audition will now launch on Windows Vista® systems where the My Documents folder was moved from the default location.
The application will now ignore Windows "Locale" settings to format decimal data in comma-delimited XML settings files.
A Healing Brush crash issue has been addressed.
Crossfades are no longer incorrectly added to grouped clips when overlapped with non-grouped clips.
Invalid crossfades will no longer be added to the end of a previously trimmed clip after enabling or disabling looping.
Invalid crossfades for clips after enabling non-session tempo-based looping have been addressed.
Dragging crossfaded clips onto the master track no longer creates two additional tracks and an error in the crossfades.
Inserting MIDI from the Files panel would cause the application to hang in Edit mode for an audio file whose sample rate didn't match the session.
Several scenarios where crossfade changes could corrupt a session were addressed.
Closing a session without exiting the rewire app no longer causes Adobe Audition to save a blank session.
Undo no longer becomes disabled after undoing the creation of unique copies of two crossfaded clips.
Crossfaded clips no longer disappear after undoing move clips.
Canceling VST scan no longer causes Adobe Audition to become unstable.
If a selection existed, a full session mixdown would only process MIDI data through the end of the selection.
The Open MIDI dialog box was not completely modal and could cause a crash.
MIDI Host had problems with some Spectrasonics VSTi instruments, where it wouldn't show the entire UI.
CD burning would sometimes create a corrupted disk but still report a successful burn.
Applying the Clip/Pop Eliminator no longer crashes the application.
Crash recovery is now more reliable when using Auto-Save For Recovery.
When the application detects the possible saving failure that causes a corrupted session, a warning dialog box now appears so users can retry the save.
Transport controls are no longer disabled if a new session is opened without closing the existing session.
Crossfades will now retain their original shape when clips are moved and the session is reopened.

  • Recreatable Bug in Audition 3

Hello all, I believe I have found a re-createable bug in AA3 and here is how you can create it.
Load up a session, and on one of the tracks select all the clips.
Now, right click a clip and select "clip envelopes > pan > use splines".  So now you have set the clip pan envelopes (NOT the volume envelopes but the PAN envelopes) to use splines.
Now play back your Multitrack session and within the clips you have set to use splines, keep creating new enveloping points and adjust these envelope points just before the cursor while the cursor is playing and moving toward the envelope points...adjust envelopes just before the cursor gets there and eventually Audition will stop functioning and you will get the message
    "Microsoft Visual C++ Runtime Library
    (X) Runtime Error!
    C:\ProgramFiles\Adobe\AdobeAudition 3.0\Audition.exe
    R6025 Pure Virtual Function Call"
It also happens (although not nearly as often) when I'm adjusting the "pan splines" whilst Audition is not playing the session, and is completely stopped.
This is the first real "bug" I have encountered, has anyone else had the same experience or are you able to re-create it?  You have to play with the splines from anywhere from 10 seconds to a minute and eventually with repeated changes in the pan and the addition of more envelope points it will crash.
Just wondering if anyone else has experienced this, or if you can re-create it in 3.0.1, which I have yet to upgrade to because my friend did and he has now encountered bugs that were not in the original 3.0, can anyone confirm this bug and/or whether it's been fixed in 3.0.1?
My system has been so stable otherwise I don't want to touch it, even with this re-createable bug, after it crashed if I "control+s" and save the results, it doesn't save the session permanently, but when I choose "continue session" in the post-crash dialog box, it returns my clips with the spline envelopes set just as they were just prior to the crash.

Please note the one I bolded, and the one underneath. I also strongly suspect that this is only the list of tangible things - there have been quite a few changes 'under the hood' to make all this possible, and this has definitely been more stable than the original version - I had healing brush crashes before, and not a single one since. I'm not aware of a single report from anybody that this bugfix release has made anything worse or more unstable at all, and most reports of crashes have more to do with people's unstable OS installs than anything else, and they certainly don't relate to the bugfix, whatever you may have heard.

  • Loopback at 48KHz... anyone having problems?

    Hi folks
Just getting into Mainstage and loving it... when it works. I'm using it in a number of ways: as a live virtual keyboard rig, as an FX unit for bass, and starting to use it for live a cappella looping. I'm using a Bose T1 as my mixer/USB interface. The keyboard rig/bass FX setups are working nicely, but the looping isn't.
I've had a number of random issues, but the one that's most consistent is that sometimes I record a loop, overdub, and the overdub gets lost. I can see it recording (I have a waveform display in my layout), and as it passes the loop point, the waveform disappears. So far it's only on an overdub (my first loop is always recorded), and sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't. Sometimes it will skip over a pass of the loop but get it the next time around. All interesting, and completely useless for live work!
After hours and hours of troubleshooting, I think I've gotten it down to an issue with sample rate. The Bose T1 samples at 48KHz only. Settings are all correct (ie everything plays back at the right speed), but I'm wondering if Loopback's way of marking tempo or loop-points doesn't work at 48KHz. If I remove my interface and record with the laptop's mic/speakers, I can't replicate the problem. I haven't yet tried other external interfaces (on the road right now)... but it seems odd that my interface and MS work fine everywhere else except here.
So... anyone using Loopback at 48Khz out there? Successes/problems? Workarounds? Any help is greatly appreciated.

Hi I see u r using a T1. Are you also connecting it to an L1/L2? When I connected the T1 to the comp, the bose L2 system made some noise (feedback I guess) when I turned the master up. Got any tips how to prevent this? I want to be able to use mainstage live with guitar. Is it also possible to assign each of the channel on T1 with different patches eg vocal, guitar etc via mainstage then it all live?

  • Loops not stretching to match tempo

I moved my loops to an external drive and then remapped them but now when I drag one into my arrange window it will not match the tempo. I also can't stretch it manually. I'm sure I did this before and I'm having trouble finding information about it both in the manual and online. How do I do this?

aha, thanks! I notice though that it does not always snap to the grid even though the time does change. Is there a way to do this manually?

  • Auditioning wav loops at correct tempo

    Hi Forum
I have been a Protools user for several years, but because of all the usual annoyances with PT I have decided to join the Logic camp, just today in fact.
However one feature I am immediately missing is the protools equivalent of "Calculate Elastic Analysis" in the workspace browser. If you are not familiar with PT, this enables you to preview wav loops at the correct tempo for your session.
In Logic I can navigate to my loops via the browser, but previewing them just plays the original tempo of the loop, not at the tempo of my session. I can of course drag it into the arrange window and fix it, but I miss the immediacy of the PT approach.
PT has a process called "Manual Indexing" that goes through all of your sample collection and extracts metadata such as tempo to make this process work. Is there perhaps an equivalent in Logic I haven't found yet? Do I have to convert all of my samples to Apple loops perhaps? but how would I do that?
    Hope someone can help.

  • 3rd Party AIFF loops tempo changes from loop library and Logic session

    Hi there,
Hope somebody out there can help me out!
I've recently purchased some 3rd party loops, some in AIFF and some in WAV (Which I have converted to AIFF using the Apple Loops Utility), and i have been able to get these into the logic Loop library successfully.....Or so I thought!
The problem I am having is that when previewing one of my loops it's often double the speed that the set tempo, and this will happen to ALL of my loops. But when I drag one into my session, Logic asks if it should copy over the automation data with it, click yes, and it plays fine in the arrange window. And funnily enough, all of my loops in the library start playing at the correct tempo!
Once this has all happened, i've tried quitting logic, and re-opening....but the issue just happens again....
Has anyone else had this problem, or have any idea as to what the issue may be??
Any help would be greatly appreciated!!

  • Midi tempo/key Apple Loops

I tried working with Apple Loops and an extensive external midi rig the other day and came to an impasse at trying to do the following.
    Any suggestions?
I used a ton of Jam pack loops with original loops in exs24 and external modules
What I wanted to do is to only change the tempo of the midi tracks(ostinatto mallets) and leave the loops at existing tempo.
Basically wanted to double the tempo of the midi track against the existing audio loops...
Any way to lock the Apple Loops at existing tempo?
    thanks
    Pat

I guess you could do like this; Bounce the loop as a regular AIF and add to audio window, then bring it to your arrange again, and just loop it regularly. If you now change the tempo of the song - the aif will stay as it were (unless you click follow tempo...)
