Text blocking: Feature suggestion

I've been looking around for info about text blocking. I have the information already that I can either block all texts, block up to 5 numbers (but have to "re-block" periodically), or pay cost of 25 texts  ($4.99) to block 20 numbers. None of those fits my needs. What I need is an "allow only" feature. I want to submit a list of approved numbers that I will accept a text from (family, certain friends, etc) and block everything that's not on the list.

My family and friends know that unless it's important, I'll charge them a quarter for every text they send me. They only send them (important texts) every few months, but normally it's 2 or 3 at a time when a phone call would be too loud and disturbing. I can't afford to miss those 2 or 3 that happen every few months. But I can't afford the 3 or 4 I get from strangers every month. I know, it's just a dollar, but every dollar counts.
Thats by and far the cheapest thing I ever heard of. You cant afford the 2 or 3 that happen every few months. are they alerting you to the death of a family member, or double coupons at the store? cheap gas? You charge them for texts? do they actually pay this? are you all from another galaxy where this practice is allowed? do you use that extra dollar to buy cookies, perhaps?  I mean that in jest, obviously, but if its really that important to you, just block text altogether and have them leave you a voicemail (which uses minutes) and call them back.

  • The Content sync feature won't allow me to style specific text within a text block.

I am trying to change the color of a few words within a paragraph but after I add a content tag to it, it will not let me. It will just change the color of all text within the block. Is this a bug?

The issue I am having is that I can't do any text styling to specific words within my text box like I can without a content tag.
Let me explain. I have a few words within a text block that I want to emphasize with a color. It will not allow me to highlight the word and change its color if it has a content tag - it will change all of the text within the block that color. I have no problem doing it without the tag. Why is that?

  • FM 8 and getting Workgroups to import text blocks from server?

Via the FM 8 Workgroups feature, I am trying to implement importing text blocks on a server (by reference), with auto-update so if the text block on the server changes the Workgroups-linked text block in my local file updates when I open the local file.
Although I followed the Workgroups setup instructions in FM 8 Help, I get a Network Failure. Unable to access server message when I select the file to import and select Import by reference. (I did try the Import/Copy and Open options but got the same error message.) The Workgroups Import dialog box does access the server, as the .fm files on that server are available for selection. Also, the files on the server have the appropriate permission/access privileges set.
    Any suggestions?
    Thanks.

Unfortunately the Workgroups part of FM is not very widely used -- nor very well documented, as you've found -- so there aren't many users who can provide any suggestions. Most user comments that I've read about it are pretty much that it's at best a half-baked implementation, pretty much in parallel with the way the HTML export is quite limited an thus there are several other 3rd party options that provide much more thorough functionality.
Also, with the switchover in forum software on this forum the readership here has been greatly reduced, so I'd say your best bet might be to post on the FrameUsers list, at http://www.frameusers.com because your query will reach a more diverse audience.
You might also check Scott Prentice's tools list at http://www.leximation.com to see if there are any 3rd party workgroup-specific tools available.
Personally, though, I'd also check out using FrameScript instead of Workgroups, as I think it would offer much more flexibility and scope. The Framescript group can be found at

  • In the book module of Lightroom 4 I would like to create a two-page spread with a text block

I'd like to use a single photo as a crossover through the gutter. I do not see an option to include a text block in such a layout. Am I missing something?

I think many of us were mislead by Adobe's labeling of the boxes as "text" and "caption" - at least I was, initially.
The text options of the templates are not very versatile since neither their location nor their size can be changed, once it is fulf with text - that's it.
The surprising - and unexpected-  feature is the caption box that in reality is the needed text box since
    a) it adapts in size to the amount of text - and to the size of the font,
    b) the text can be moved within the box with the Padding Feature, and
    c) the box can be moved up or down with the Offset slider.
To make the caption box that versatile you have to uncheck <Align with photo> in the Caption panel.

  • Using  cl_gui_textedit, text blocks always display prior document.

We have two containers and we're using two instances of cl_gui_textedit.
On the first call to the text screen, we see the two texts that we should see.
The user saves the data and backs out to the selection screen, which contains an ALV display of documents.
The user selects the next document to process.  During initialization, we attempt the FREE destructor but it does not destroy the text editor ref to cl_gui_textedit.  We can initialize with clear and free as ABAP statement.  Upon entry to the PBO, we can see that we have forcibly cleared the ref to cl_gui_textedit.  It's 0: INITIAL for both text editors.  We watch the table being built and the internal tables contain the correct text.   After our set read_only true or false, we get a beep, and then arrive at our text screen without any error message.
What is on the screen at that point will be the texts from the prior document.  We've tried inserting lifetime parameters for our custom container.  We've tried CALL METHOD cl_gui_cfw=>flush (which appears to always be necessary in PAI when we get the unprotected portion and the indices, etc.).  Neither of these alter the behavior of the screen and the erroneous content of the text editor blocks.
Question:  is there a method or something that anyone can suggest to "force" the text blocks to contain the data that was in the table, rather than the data that was in the table for the prior transaction?

Did you try calling the method DELETE_TEXT of the CL_GUI_TEXTEDIT before setting up the next text.
This is how I get rid of the existing text:
    * Delete the Text
      me->o_editor->delete_text( ).
    * Set the new text
      me->o_editor->set_textstream( EXPORTING text = iv_text ).

  • PDF file shows different numbers of text blocks in CC 2014 and CS6

    Hi,
I've inherited a file at work that displays different numbers of text blocks, depending on the version of Acrobat used to view the file. Here's the specific issue:
    As viewed in CC 2014:
"Chapter 1 - Chapter One Title": Appears as two text blocks -- one for "Chapter 1 - " and one for "Chapter One Title"
    As viewed in CS 6:
"Chapter 1 - Chapter One Title": Appears as a single text block -- "Chapter 1 - Chapter One Title"
This occurs only with regard to single-digit chapter numbers that are whole numbers. So:
Chapter 1, Chapter 5, and Chapter 7 entries appear as two blocks in CC 2014, one block in CS6.
Chapter 2.0, Chapter 6.1, Chapter 10, entries appear in single blocks in both CC 2014 and CS6.
The PDF file was created -- I believe -- through the save-to-PDF feature in Word 2010.
    Any idea what's happening here?
    Thanks.

First of all, there is no such thing as Acrobat CS6 or Acrobat CC 2014. We assume you are referring to Acrobat X and Acrobat XI respectively.
Secondly, how are you determining how many text blocks are in the PDF file? By use of the text touchup/edit function in Acrobat? If so, how this edit function displays text doesn't necessarily correspond to the actually underlying text fragments in the PDF file. In fact, sometimes it combines fragments based on heuristics. Those heuristics have varied with different version of Acrobat.
PDF as a file format doesn't know the context of the graphical objects such as text. There is no concept of a line, a sentence, a paragraph, a column, etc. in terms of text. Runs of text are context-insensitive. You will get “breaks” when switching between regular and italics or when unusual paragraph justification is involved.
Is the actual problem in trying to edit the text or something else?
If you post a file, and indicate what text we should look at, we can confirm what is actually going on in your file.

  • Any help from apple with linking text blocks in pages?

I finally caved and updated to Yosemite.  Pages has been my go-to page layout forever.  But now I cannot link text blocks???  Is there a work around?

About 100+ features never made it from Pages '09 v4.3 into Pages v5. Facing pages, builtin mail merge, and linked check boxes are just three of the casualties of progress. The work around for missing Text box linking is to use Pages '09, or a non-Apple word processing package that supports that feature.
The iWork '09 DVD applications (with mandatory Apple 9.3 updater) work well on Yosemite. If you purchased and downloaded individual iWork '09 applications from the OS X App Store prior to Oct. 2013, these can move to Yosemite on a USB stick, as they are a different application design to the DVD versions. I have both Pages v5.5.2 and Pages '09 v4.3 on Yosemite 10.10.2.

  • Creating photo book in previous version of iLife.  Text block outlines.

Creating photo book in previous version of iLife.  Want to leave the "default" photo information text block blank.  Can delete text, but block outline remains, albeit empty.  Will empty block outline print in final book?

The text block area will not show when the book is converted to a PDF file for uploading and printing.  Do as Terence suggested and create a PDF file of the book according to this Apple document, iPhoto, Aperture: Previewing an order in iPhoto or Aperture, and check the book before ordering.  Keep the file to compare with the printed copy when you receive it.

  • Call, FaceTime & Text Blocking

I have a question about the blocking feature.
I would like to know what the blocked person sees or hears when they attempt to contact you.
Do they get a message informing them they've been blocked?
Do they think they are getting through but there is no response?
    What happens on their end?

I just got off the phone with a Verizon customer care rep that told me she just got an email saying that you can not use the number / text blocking service (on the VZW website) on the same line that has the Mobile hotspot activated. This is either a glitch or these 2 services are conflicting for some strange reason. Either way I have removed the hotspot from my line so i can use the blocking service I.E. i have stopped paying Verizon $20/mo for the hotspot until this issue is sorted.
Verizon Wireless has currently identified an issue with the Call & Message Blocking feature and Mobile Broadband Connect/Hotspot feature. These features conflict when both features are combined on the same line. Our team is reviewing the issue at this time. I apologize for the inconvenience. We will post updates as they become available.

  • How do I resize a text block in CS6?

This used to be so simple: grab the corner of the text block with the Selection tool, and drag the corner around until my text block is the right size. In CS6, I grab the corner of the text block with the Selection tool, and all I can do is scoot the text block around the page without changing its size.
This is an operation so simple I shouldn't have to be asking how to do it in a forum. I've been using Illustrator for nearly twenty years, and this is really embarassing. I really am stumped.

    Just remember it's not a bug, it's a feature.

  • Is anyone else upset that Pages 5.2 has lost the ability to link text blocks?

I know that Apple seems to be trying to add back in some of the myriad features they stripped out of the old Pages, but one critical feature for me that has yet to appear is the ability to link text blocks. There are incredibly crude ways to try to emulate this lost feature, but it is really critically important for efficient page layout. I have requested it several times, starting with the original 'new' Pages but it seems to be one of those useful features that Apple has decided is unimportant.

I will speak for everyone else who can't be bothered responding because we have been all over this 6 months ago…

I want to change the inset (objects properties - text block -
inset) of several text blocks at once. But if I select more than
one text block, the properities feature disappears. Anyone?

well, it looks like the best way to do it is to do the following...
one the button click start a timer which can be created from Timer
when timer reaches a certain point in time change the text filters
there is a Timer class, it can start and stop, not sure how to get the time from it though
the list of filters and their constructors is in the actionscript documentation, pretty simple to follow
and you can easily add/remove/modify filters on the text
seems like the best approach i can think of... pretty standard... nothing special...
