TextArea command line

Hello,
I'm making a program that has a command line interface. I am trying to make this work in a TextArea, however this is not an easy task as it is for a TextField. I can not get the TextArea to get the command on the cursor line. The program should work like this in the TextArea.
TX_Cli> read address 90000 //(command to be stored in a string)
got read address 9000 command, sending.....
recieved packet address 90000 has A5A5FFFF
TX_Cli>
Is this even possible, I have tried using key listeners but they don't work since the enter (\n) is a valid character in a TextArea. Should I try and use some other method besides TextArea... I really want to use the TextArea or JTextArea since I am using this with other parts of my code right now.

. code. (i tried what the last guy posted but I
could not get it to work, by the way, thank you first
guy.)Arg. That's because I posted the wrong code. This is what you want
There is even sample code in the main method. This should fix your problem with delete/etc
The one I posted before can be useful if you want to make a textarea show System.out or err.

  • What is the easiest way to show a command line app in an appletviewer

    I'd like to convert a command line interface application to a small applet, for use in an appletviewer. What is the easiest way to implement this.

    I made something like what you are describing for a text adventure engine. It uses a big text area for output and a small text field for input.
    Here's the code
    public class myApplet extends java.applet.Applet
         implements Runnable
         TextArea output ;
         TextField input ;
    public void init()
              width = this.size().width ;
              height = this.size().height ;
         public void run()
              makeComponents() ;
              while( true ) // loop on + on + on
              try { Thread.sleep( 10 ) ; }
                        catch (InterruptedException e) {}
    public void makeComponents()
              input = new TextField() ;
              input.setSize( Math.min( 200, width - 5 ), 25 ) ;
              input.setLocation( 5, height - 30 ) ;
              add( input ) ;
              input.addActionListener( new ActionListener()
                   public void actionPerformed( ActionEvent e )
                        String temp = input.getText() ; // do something with this
              output = new TextArea( "", 0, 0, TextArea.SCROLLBARS_VERTICAL_ONLY) ;
              output.setSize( width - 10, height - 40 ) ;

  • Parsing java command line output to a gui

    Dear All,
    I am trying to implement a search engine for a project, i have a java file called Searcher.java, which searches for a particular text or sentence and gives the output based on the number of hits on a particular document, the document with the max hits is displayed first and so on,all the documents are are stored in a text file, I am trying to create a GUI for this file, the gui would consist of a text box,submit button,a list and a text area , when a user enters the text to search all the entries are displayed in the list box and upon clicking the individual item in the list the description should open up in the text area.
    The problem i am encountering is that i am not able to parse the output of the searcher.java file onto the GUI, i have no clue as to how to implement it , i would really appreciate it if anyone could help me out.
    the code for Searcher.java is as follows
    import java.util.*;
    public class Searcher {
    /** Specify the work directory !! */
    private static final String rootDir = "C:/HR/GUIAssign/";//on PC
    // private static final String rootDir = "/research/gm/Java/IR/"; // on Unix
    private static final String stopWordFile = "iStopWords.txt";
    private static final String docCollFile = "iDocColl.txt";
    private static final String invertedIndexFile = "ioInvertedIndex.txt";
    private StopWordSet stopWords = new StopWordSet(rootDir + stopWordFile);

    this.parser = parser;
    ReaderWriter rw = new TextFileReaderWriter(rootDir);
    inv = rw.readInvertedIndex(invertedIndexFile);
    List search(String query) {
    System.out.println("\nSearching for <" + query + ">.");
    List hits = new ArrayList();
    int nbOfDocs = parser.getNbOfReadDocs();

    " documents.\n");
    double scores[] = new double[nbOfDocs]; // initial values 0.0
    String term;
    tok.setText(query);
    while(tok.hasMore()) {
    System.out.println("\nNext term: ");
    term = tok.nextToken();
    System.out.println(term);
    if(stopWords.contains(term))
    continue; // this terms can be ignored
    term = stemmer.stem(term); // apply the stemmer to get the root
    System.out.println("\n\nInfo on the term \"" + term + "\":");

    I'm not positive I understand your problem... but let me recap what I think it is, then provide a solution:
    Your searched program can be run from the command line, and prints out (using system.out) the data you want. But NOW you want to create a GUI class, that intercepts that output, and displays it on the screen, and you can't because its going to the output stream and you're GUI isn't able to get it.
    If this is the case, what you can do is add two constructors to your Searcher class:
    public Searcher()
    this(System.out);
    public Searcher(OutputStream out)
    this.out = out;
    The idea being, that if you don't specify an output stream, the output goes to the console like normal. But if you do specify an output stream, the data gets fed back to you. So then in your GUI, you can do some binding of PipedInputStream and PipedOutputStream so when the Searcher class prints out, it comes right through the pipe into your GUI where you are waiting to read it.
    If this wasn't your problem, sorry :(
    Best,
    -Riyad

    Obviously you can't read from the scanner. Instead you have to read from request parameters.
    So you have to take a step back and define what values are being input into your application.
    At its most basic you could do it as a jsp page with a textfield/textarea which the user could type into instead of typing on the console input.
    For instance if your application asks the user to enter their name, and then reads the name from System.in, then you have on your jsp page a <input type="text"> and a submit button.
    In the servlet which gets run when you submit the button you get the user's name via request.getParameter().
    At that point you have your input String, and have removed System.in from the process.
    But you are not just limited to text input with an html form. You can use any of the controls available. So asking a user "What is your favorite colour?" Instead of having them type in the answer, you could have them choose it from a radio group or dropdown select box.
    Either way it still gets to the Servlet as a String via request.getParameter.
    Steps you might follow
    1 - identify the values being input into your program
    2 - Write your jsp - start with just textfields
    3 - Write your servlet handler to retrieve the values from the JSP.
    4 - Determine the appropriate control on an html form to replace each input
    5 - Modify the textfields to other controls (dropdown/radio button) as appropriate.
    Theoretically the rest of your program doesn't need to change once you have the value in a String.
    Your method of reading just changes from using Scanner and System.int to request.getParameter()
    Similarly your method of writing would change from using System.out to a response JSP page.
    hope this helps,

  • Capturing command line output to a file possible?

    Hi, i am in need of capturing the command line output to a txt file and need some suggestions on how to do it.
    I have two classes, class A is the one with all the methods and outputs text to the command line (using System.out.print). class B is the one that calls the methods and needs to record the command line output to a file.
    Now the problem i face is not all the output is going to be written to a file and not all the output is going to be displayed on the command line. eg. class B will have a way to select the output mode which is either both to a file and command line or just to a file and display nothing on the command line.
    Is what i am asking even possible? Any suggestions would be great!

    Here is a class I found on the forum that does basically what you need. Just change the code that is updating a Document to write to a file:
    import java.io.*;
    import java.awt.*;
    import java.awt.event.*;
    import javax.swing.*;
    import javax.swing.text.*;
    public class ConsoleOutputStream extends OutputStream
         private Document document = null;
         private ByteArrayOutputStream outputStream = new ByteArrayOutputStream(256);
         private PrintStream ps = null;
         public ConsoleOutputStream(Document document, PrintStream ps)
              this.document = document;
              this.ps = ps;
         public void write(int b)
              outputStream.write (b);
         public void flush() throws IOException
              super.flush();
              try
                   if (document != null)
                        document.insertString (document.getLength (),
                             new String (outputStream.toByteArray ()), null);
                   if (ps != null)
                        ps.write (outputStream.toByteArray ());
                   outputStream.reset ();
              catch(Exception e) {}
         public static void main(String[] args)
              JTextArea textArea = new JTextArea();
              JScrollPane scrollPane = new JScrollPane( textArea );
              JFrame frame = new JFrame("Redirect Output");
              frame.setDefaultCloseOperation( JFrame.EXIT_ON_CLOSE );
              frame.getContentPane().add( scrollPane );
              frame.setSize(300, 600);
              frame.setVisible(true);
              System.setOut( new PrintStream(
                   new ConsoleOutputStream (textArea.getDocument (), System.out), true));
              System.setErr( new PrintStream(
                   new ConsoleOutputStream (textArea.getDocument (), null), true));
              Timer timer = new Timer(1000, new ActionListener()
                   public void actionPerformed(ActionEvent e)
                        System.out.println( new java.util.Date().toString() );
                        System.err.println( System.currentTimeMillis() );
              timer.start();

  • Open and Close a command line exec via OpenG.lib in seperate VIs

    Hi,
    I'm aiming to perform tests on my UUT - over a command line based executable which established a USB connection, so - sendings commands and checking the return string.
    So far i'm reusing the pipeNight.vi which is shared in the following post.
    http://forums.ni.com/t5/LabVIEW/How-to-pass-input-to-a-DOS-executable-that-is-running-in/m-p/1763182...
    However i wish expand from LabVIEW and utilise NI-TestStand sequence files to ramp up the test coverage and perform the tests automatically.
    The issue i've encountered - every time i call the pipeNight.vi from a TestStand sequence Step, the USB connection is build up and torn down.
    Although i'm not encountering any performance issues to date, i would ultimately like to open a session (i.e.establish the usb connection) - at the beginning of a sequence file, send a bunch or commands and check return strings, before closing the session at the end of the sequence file. This is surely a more effecient and elegant solution.
    Is it somehow possible to split the pipeNight.vi into several VIs to realise this objective?
    - Open
    - Write/Read
    - Close
    i'd appreciate and help or alternatice solutions on this!
    B.Regards
    Kech
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

    I had tried to explain in my initial post, that if i call the pipeNight.vi from a TestStand sequence file step, then establishes a USB connection and tears it done - for every command that i send/ respectively every sequence step that i run in TestStand. As i envisage multiple (several hundred) test steps, i woul like to improve effeciency by establishing the ESB connection once instead of multiple times.

  • Error while running a Discoverer Workbook with parameter from command line

    I am trying to run a discoverer report from command line and export the results in xls on to my local machine. I could do it fine for a simple workbook, but if I add a parameter(madatory) to the workbook and run it from command line specifying the parameter value I wanted to run the report for, I do not get any results. Here is the command line I am using.
    dis51usr.exe /connect user/password@database /apps_user /apps_responsibility "System Administrator" /eul EUL_US /open C:\Disco\Test.DIS /sheet Testsheet /parameter Period Jan-07 /export xls C:\Disco\X.xls /batch
    Parameter value is entered in correct format(Jan-07).
    When I removed /batch from this to see if I get any error, Discoverer Desktop opened up, logged in and gets terminated saying 'Oracle Discoverer Desktop has encountered a problem and need to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience.'
    Did anybody come across this issue before?

    Hello,
    If you have a few minutes, Windows is also aborting for me:
    the differences are, my situation is:
    a) am running the command line from a .bat file
    b) am NOT running with parms, want the discoverer query to come up for the user
    c) am running a query from the database
    i am signing in as myself BUT running a query that was created by a generic user called SREG
    c) if i run the .bat file from Windows Explorer, the query opens fine
    d) if i execute the .bat file from within Microsoft Access using the shell command,
    the query opens and then aborts RIGHT BEFORE the parm screen would display
    e) btw, if i modify the .bat file, to run a query from MY database signon, then (d) - running .bat file
    from vb using SHELL command works
    Do you have a ideas as to why (d) does not work? I would be very grateful for your time, tx, sandra
    this is what i posted yesterday, tx: Re: Running Discoverer command line

  • Could not view data in the Em while in the command line query works

    Hi, all,
    I have met with this problem for several times.
    I have an Oracle 10.0.2.0 running on Redhat linux E3.
    After I insert or just input some data in a table. I could see the new data in the command line.
    SQL> select * from tablename;
    But I could not see the new data in the EM. If I export the table to, say, MS Access, the new data doesn't show. The data is there, but I have to wait for some time. (several mins to hours)
    Do you have any idea of it??
    Thank you very much!
    Qian

    Thank you for your reply.
    Why sometimes it doesn't show in other sessions, but sometimes it shows?
    Any way, I will perform commit to see....

  • GUI Applications unable to use command line tools

    Hi All-
    I've searched, but I can't find a thread about this one, so...
    On OS 10.4.5:
    Whenever I use a GUI app that wants to use a command line tool (e.g. curl, df, java), the app fails giving an error message to the effect of "unable to find curl" or the like. It is as if the GUI cannot find my unix $PATH.
    Examples:
    -- Eclipse refuses to launch, because it appears to use "java xxxxxxx" to launch.
    -- Automator fails to run certain Safari actions because they use curl to navigate web pages.
    -- Carbon Copy Cloner fails to launch, because it can't find a tool (df, IIRC) to read drive/volume info
    Possibly relevant details:
    -- I can use the tool in question from the command line, so they are present, and in my $PATH, but the GUI can't find them.
    -- I recently moved from an old G4 to a relatively new G5, and had issues migrating files, so I eventually just copied my entire home directory from the old machine to the new, replacing the freshly created one on the new machine. I feel like that missed something that tells the GUI where your $PATH is, or some other link between GUI and command line.
    -- I created a new user, and that user does not experience the same troubles. This adds to my suspicion that it is account/PATH related.
    Any help anyone can give it greatly appreciated.

    Did you by any chance create an evironment.plist file? It is located in ~/.MacOSX/ If you don't know about it or don't know to look (.MacOSX is normally invisible), try this:
    In Finder.app, in the "Go" menu select "Go to Folder..." (shift-command-G), type ~/MacOSX in the text field and hit OK, the finder should then open a window or complain.
    If it opens a window and you find in it a file named environment.plist move that file to the desktop and try your applications. Do they work as advertized? Try again after logging in/out if things don't work. Do they work now?

  • Error Received When Trying To Create DSN From The Command Line

    All,
    Your help is greatly appreciated in advance. I am having trouble packaging Oracle 10G for a batch file deployment. Everything is done except for getting the DSN created which is causing me major problems. We am working with the Oracle 10G R2 10.2.0.1.0 Client on Windows XP Professional SP2. The Oracle database resides on a Windows 2000 Professional Server SP4 running Oracle 9i.
    Our Environment: I am creating two packages of the Oracle 10G client. The first is for a batch file distribution via LANDesk and the other package is for normal batch file install if someone from IT is installing this from a user's desk. Both scripts are really identical the only differences are how they are laid out. I only need help with the DSN creation as everything else is ready to go. I am going to focus on the Non-LANDesk batch file as once I fix this in one script the other one should also be fixed.
    The Problem: The batch script copies the neccesary files to the temporary directory. I then extract the setup files to the temp folder. I run a custom Oracle install using the RSP file from a recorded install. After the install is complete I copy the TNS Names file to the proper location. I then try to call a CMD file with the ODBC command seen below the main script.
    Script (May be easier to read if you download using link below):
    @ECHO ON
    ::This batch files installs Oracle 10G Release 2 Version 10.2.0.1.0 with a Custom Response File
    ::Installation is Interactive
    ::All files are extracted from the ZIP file via the 7-Zip command line tool
    ::The Net Configuration Assistant TNS Names File is copied to its proper location
    ::The CCR ODBC connection is created once the install is complete
    ::All folders used for installation are cleaned up-deleted

    ODBC Script
    odbcconf.exe /a {CONFIGSYSDSN "Oracle in OraClient10g_home1" "DSN=CCR|Description=CCR_data|SERVER=BWB|Database=CCR"}
    As soon as the command is called I see the following error message appear.
    "CONFIGSYSDSN: Unable to create a data source for the 'Oracle in OraClient10g_home1' driver: Could not load the setup or translator library with error code -2147467259"
    The really strange thing though is that if I let the main part of the script run (Not the ODBC call) and then immediately manually start the ODBC call script it works just fine. So, I don't really understand why the script can't add it itself. Or, I can go the Administrator Tools>Data Sources (ODBC)>and then add it manually which also works. I have tried just pasting the command directly in the main script, therefore, bypassing the call feature but it doesn't make a difference.

    Has anyone ever seen this kind of issue before? Does anyone have any idea on how to fix this? Any thoughts or suggestions would be great.
    Thanks so much for your help in advance,
    Clif Bridegum

    All,
    I thought it may be related to spaces in the path in which the script was called from. I tried having the ODBC command script in another directory but the same thing happens. It will give me the "CONFIGSYSDSN: Unable to create a data source for the 'Oracle in OraClient10g_home1' driver: Could not load the setup or translator library with error code -2147467259". As soon as the script is done running I can manually double click the script and it adds the DSN fine.
    Thanks,
    Clif Bridegum

  • Single Sign On and Command line

    Hi!
    We have application without any logon form which executed from command line by BAT file:
    app.exe Username Password par1 par2 ...
    where par1, par2... is parameters of application
    So question is: can Oracle Single Sign On set user credentials to the command line? Can we use OSSO for application without logon form?
    Thank you.

    SSO is for web apps, you could try to use OID to perform the autentification of your application but you should change your application so it looks for the users in LDAP.
    Greetings.

  • Can't run JavaFX app as a jar file from command line

    I'm trying to build a JavaFX app from scratch (that is, by including the jar file from the JavaFX SDK rather than by using the special JavaFX project type from NetBeans). It runs fine in NetBeans. However, when I try to launch it as a jar file from the command line (using "java -jar dist\TestApp") I get the following. Has anybody seen this before, and if so how can I fix it?:

    Unsatisfied link means that Java is trying to access a native library, but it cannot be found. As to why this error is being thrown, here is my guess:
    If you open up one of the sample jars with a zip viewer, you will see that the Manifest file has the following entries:
    >
    Manifest-Version: 1.0
    JavaFX-Version: 2.0
    implementation-vendor: Oracle
    implementation-title: BrickBreaker
    implementation-version: 1.0
    JavaFX-Application-Class: brickbreaker.Main
    Created-By: JavaFX Packager
    Main-Class: com/javafx/main/Main
    >
    In other words, a JavaFX project works a bit differently than a normal Java project. com/javafx/main/Main is used as the Main class and your "Main" class is called later.
    If you are trying to build this from a normal Java project, then com/javafx/main/Main will not be created and it will call your Main class right away. Thus, whatever setup is needed to run JavaFX will not occur.

  • Classpaths inside of Jar's effect on command line cp

    If I have a jar with Class-Path set in the manifest, will Java ignore the classpath I use at the command line:
    java -cp conf/log4j.properties;lib/a.jar com.some.target.Main
    If "a.jar" has the class path in the manifest, will the cp I try to pass in get ignored? It seems the case.

    When you execute a command like
    java SomeJar.jarthe only place that Java looks for a classpath is in the jar.

  • Cisco Jabber MSI Install Command lines/ Orca MST file

    Greetings....
    We are trying to deploy cisco jabber 9.7.4 either by using msi command line or configuring a custom installer using Orca. Both options have worked partially. 2 places we are getting stuck.  The EULA is prompting to accept (which if we run in quiet mode, it stalls and fails) and after the install I am prompted to select account type and server. The server is populated with the correct address but it defaults to the "use default server". It seems to work with the default server but I still need to select "Cisco IM and Presence" from the account type.
    I followed the deployment guide for jabber to create the installer file.
    I am pretty new to CUCM and CUP. So feel free to answer me like I am a 4th grader.
    Attached are screen shots of the msi command line and the settings in Orca I was playing around with.
    Any help and guidance is appreciated.

    In your doc you have:
    msiexec /i CiscoJabberSetup.msi TPYPE=CUP ADDRESS=10.21.0.10 DOMAIN=chi-sd.com
    TYPE=CUP is mispelled.
    Regards
    Aaron
