TFS Git 2013 Repo Corrupt

Hi,
We just migrated to TFS Git and our server version is 2013 Update 4. It, in turn, is using SQL Server 2012 SP1.
One of our git repos has been corrupted somehow and we are trying to understand what happened. When we try to fetch or pull, we get this error:
remote: Microsoft (R) Visual Studio (R) Team Foundation Server
remote: Found invalid data while decoding.
fatal: protocol error: bad pack header
We are trying to work out what the cause of the problem is so it doesn't happen again. Can anyone point us in the right direction?
Some additional information: We have Mac, Linux and Windows git clients using this repo. Also, we have binary files in the repo and we frequently use merges and pull requests. You can still do a git clone --depth=1 --single-branch and then do a git fetch
--unshallow successfully on the all but one of the branches.
Update: This seems to be related: https://social.msdn.microsoft.com/Forums/vstudio/en-US/648d24fd-53bd-40b4-b47b-2c0e9cd8f30c/tfs-20132-git-clone-fails?forum=tfsversioncontrol
Thank you!
Johannes

Hi Johannes,
From your scenario and error message,  you might run out of memory on the server which can be caused by the reasons below:
A repository with lots of large files, which can cause re-packing to take a lot of memory.
Limited virtual memory - either in general, or just for that account due to the
ulimit setting
And you can execute the git command on your server machine to get it resolved, the commands are:
git config --global pack.windowMemory "100m"
git config --global pack.packSizeLimit "100m"
git config --global pack.threads "1"
command You can refer to the links below for more information about the solution when get git repository udpate:

  • Can I configure TFS express 2013 in ms visual studio 2013 express edition?

    Hi,
I downloaded Microsoft visual studio SHELL only to realise that I cannot create WebApplication.
my team wants to work on the .Net application integrated with tfs for
development, version control and building. Its on trial basis.
So we want to create a prototype and hence we cannot go for the licensed version.
Can you please tell me if we can do the above things using microsoft visual studio express 2013 and tfs express 2013.
If yes, please explain the configuration process as we see many installers online.
    Thanks in advance.

    Hi linkin3468,
Firstly, there are different VS express version, if you want to develop the web app, one idea is that you could install the VS2013 express for web.
    http://www.visualstudio.com/en-us/products/visual-studio-express-vs.aspx
Or you could install the latest free version VS2013 community version, it would support all features of express versions.
    http://www.visualstudio.com/en-us/news/vs2013-community-vs.aspx
For the TFS express usage issue, as far as I know, the Visual Studio Express client integration will work with any Team Foundation Server – including both TFS Express and the
Team Foundation Service. So you could use it.
    Best Regards,
    Jack

  • Security update 2013 has corrupted wireless trackpad and keyboard

Security update 2013 has corrupted my wireless trackpad and keyboard.  The wireless trackpad will select and highlight text on its own, will secondary click on its own, will highlight and drag text on its own, etc. It is basically possessed!
Security update 2013 has also seriously corrupted my wireless keyboard.  The wireless keyboard will randomly jump back in the sentence or to earlier paragraph or worse just select and delete all that I have written as I am typing! It is very frustrating and is rendering my workstation useless!
Please help me. Is there someway to update/reset bluetooth? Why is this happening after I updated?

Similar keyboard conniptions on my MBP after the recent Snow Leopard update. Obviously, it being a MBP, this wasn't a wireless issue, but directly after installing the update, the keyboard refused to type a word. I could place the cursor with the mouse but the keyboard was totally non-reactive.
Re-booted it. Didn' t work. Ran Disk Utitlity, verified the disk, verified and repaired disk permissions and then did another restart. After 10-15 secs of further inactivity, the keyboard started working again.
There seems to be a problem relating to keyboards on the most recent Snow Leopard update. Disk Utility and a couple of restarts seems to have ironed out the wrinkle.

Hello! I seem to be having a similar problem to what is being discussed here. So I figured I would add what is going on with me.
I will try to keep it short but I apologize in advance for it being a bit long.
Hardware: 2006 Imac with Radeon mobility x1600
For me there was no problem before the systemd upgrade to 210 and the upgrade to 211 did not fix the problem of black screen on boot.
Also I upgraded my kernel from 3.13.5-1 to 3.13.6-1 after the problem with systemd started.
Downgrading systemd to 208.10 ( the kernel had been upgraded already) got the system working properly again.
I have since gone back to 211 and have found that:
If I wait for 5 - 10 minutes after the computer boots when I move the mouse the screen wakes up and I can unlock the screen and the computer works as normal.
Note: I am using gdm and gnome3. I think from this that my problem is a brightness/screen not being turned on issue?
If I add nomodeset to the kernel boot parameters the computer works but the Radeon drivers are not loaded.
and after booting with nomodeset if I use "sudo modprobe radeon modeset=1" my computer screen blacks and I have no response.
With both 210 and 211 I can press ctrl+alt+F2 type my username and password into the blind and give commands like "sudo reboot followed by the password" blindly to the computer and the computer will execute them.
I hope that this can be fixed soon... It is annoying at best.
    EDIT
I tried  "sudo modprobe radeon modeset=1" again and found that I can press ctrl+alt+F2 and get a terminal login prompt that I can use and see! Although gdm login/gnome is still a black screen...

  • TFS GIT HTTPS Push Problem

    Hi everyone,
we have a problem with TFS 2013/ GIT and HTTPS Push. From Visual Studio, pushing large commits is quite fine, using GIT Bash it results in:
    Accept-Encoding: gzip
    Content-Type: application/x-git-receive-pack-request
    Accept: application/x-git-receive-pack-result
    Content-Length: 35005416
    * SSL read: error:00000000:lib(0):func(0):reason(0), errno 10053
    * Closing connection 2
efrror: RPC failed; result=56, HTTP code = 401
atal: The remote end hung up unexpectedly
fatal: The remote end hung up unexpectedly
    Everything up-to-date
The following overview shows what I already tested:
HTTP (Push commit > 30MB to TFS 2013)
    Visual Studio 2013
          OK
    GIT Bash 1.9.5
OK       (Installation via WebInstaller using Visual Studio 2013 itself!)
HTTPS (Push commit > 30MB to TFS 2013)
    Visual Studio 2013
    OK
    GIT Bash 1.9.5
NOK     (Installation via WebInstaller using Visual Studio 2013 itself!)
    GIT Bash 1.9.5
    NOK     (Default-GIT-Installation from git-scm.org)
    GIT Bash 1.8.0
    OK       (Default-GIT-Installation from git-scm.org)
    HTTPS (Push commit > 30MB to Apache / OpenSSL / git-http-backend)
    Visual Studio 2013
    not tested
    GIT Bash 1.9.5
OK       (Installation via WebInstaller using Visual Studio 2013 itself!)
    GIT Bash 1.9.5
    OK       (Default-GIT-Installation from git-scm.org)
We would like to use the commandline to automate a few things, but that's currently not possible :-(
    Any hints?
    Thank you,
    Tom

    Hi Tom,
I'd like to know whether you push the same commit by using Git bash "1.9.5" and "1.8.0", and more specific size of the commit.
You can check whether it works if you use a parameter of postbuffer in your command. Check this
thread for more information. Another option is check whether downgrade to use Git Bash "1.8.0" is possible. However, you can also check with
Git site to see if it's related to the version of Git Bash "1.9.5".

  • Exporting .trx file after running testcases using TFS Inrelease 2013.4

    Hi All,
Need your inputs in achieving a major blocker in our release process:
    1) We are running testcases as the part of release process using Inrelease TFS 2013.4 .
    2) Testcases runs fine in a lab environment and the issues come wrt to .trx file.
    3) We couldn't find any .trx file in my RM deployer, after digging into the issue found the PS Script (TCMExec1.PS) has no option to export .trx file rather , it delete the .trx file .
Look at below highlighted line :
If I comment the delete statement , it exports to %appdate%temp../RM../ location , every time I trigger test cases.
Since it creates a new folder every time I run testcases, I m not able to read trx file to publish a customized report(We have written a login for this)
Could you please help me with an option/script  to export to one particular location ? Like C:\Report ?
(Optional: Environment : TFS 2013.4 , Rm 2013.4, We are using RM Deployer ,MTM (Labcenter) 2013.4 )
    Many Thanks,
    Abraham Dhanyaraj

    Hi Abraham,
I am glad to hear you resolved the issue. Thanks for sharing your experience here, it is good to other members who experience the same issue in the community.
    Best regards,

  • TFS /VStudio 2013 - How Can I See TestContext Output from Build Definition

Running On Prem TFS 2013 with Visual Studio 2013 MS Test
I think we are using the default Build Templates (TfvcTemplate.12.xaml)
I have a seperate "*.Tests" Assembly/Project for running Unit Tests.
The main problem I have, is that the tests pass on my machine, but fail on the Build Server.  I have plenty of information on my machine on why tests fail (via Console.WriteLine and TestContext.WriteLine), but all I get on the build server Diagnostics
or Log tab is Failed "TestName".
I've been trying to find a way to figure out a way to find a way to configure TFS to show me the Failure reasons, but I can't find it anywhere.
    I successfully run the MSBuild.exe step / mtba:RunMSBuild
Then I go to the mtba:RunAgileTestRunner and / "Run VS Test Runner" and it fails the Build (because I have "Fail build on test failure" set to true).  I see all the tests that fail, but have no idea why.  I would like to know
how to configure TFS so I can see the same output I see from Visual Studio.
Here is the output of what happens: from the Diagnostics "tab" when seeing Build result in the browser:
    Run VS Test Runner

    Hi ParsecAndre,
    Thanks for your post.
In TFS 2013 default TfvcTemplate.12.xaml build process template, TFS invoke VS Test Runner(vstest.console.exe) to execute test project, not invoke MSTest.
To view the detailed test case failed information, please should open the completed build in VS, please refer to the below screenshot:

  • MS Project 2013 keeps corrupting my project files...

I've got a fairly large project plan I've been working against in Project 2013 for several months now. Up until about a week ago, everything was fine. Now, when I go to open the .mpp from file explorer or "recently opened files", Project (the program)
opens, but does not open my .mpp. It just blips really quick and acts like it's going to open, but then doesn't. When I try to just open the program, and then manually navigate to the folder where my .mpp is located and open it that way, Project actually stops
    responding and crashes.
I can open new blank project files fine, so I think my file has become corrupt. I've read a few things that could potentially help like repairing Project, recovering previous versions, and removing all links/predecessors from the plan, but they don't help.
I was able to get a previous working version of the plan, but soon thereafter opening it successfully and re-saving it in Project, it reverted to the same corrupt behavior. Interestingly enough, I've found that I "can" open the project file directly
from SharePoint in read-only (I have it uploaded there for my customers to see), but if I try to save-as locally again, and then re-open it locally, it becomes corrupt again.
This is very frustrating and mind-boggling -  I'm hoping somebody else that has experienced this can point me in the direction of a solution. Thanks in advance!!

    Hi Ryan,
Here is my feedback in addition to the excellent advice given by Phani.
It could be interesting to determine weither MS Project is corrupted or your file. Since you already tried to repair MS Project through the control panel, I'd say that the file might be corrupted.
In order to repair it, save it locally as an XML file, then open the XML file with MS Project (you'll go through an import wizard) and save it back as an MPP file.
I assume that it is a standalone file, not connected to Project Server.
    Hope this helps,

  • Website project automatically remaps local workspace directories TFS & VS 2013

    Hi,
I have some odd behaviour with one of my code projects, a web site project, which has library projects attached to it to form the overall solution.  When I imported the solution into TFS, I recreated the folder structure that would normally be created
when you create such a project locally, the library projects being stored with the "Projects" folder along with the solution .sln file and the actual website files (aspx/aspx.cs) stored within the "Websites" folder.
This structure until recently has been working very well, however when I clicked "Get Latest Version" recently, it very successfully decided to delete all my recent work within the "Websites" folder, all the web site front end code.
After some investigation it appears as though through some automatically process that all the websites folder files have been moved into the projects folder.  I tried to correct this within the TFS server, which appears to have been successful, however
after resetting my local workspaces and re-downloading the code files and then after opening the .sln file itself -- it then tries to "correct" the structure and moves all the Website folder files back into the projects directory.  This behaviour
appears to be specifically related to opening the .sln file rather than grabbing the code from TFS.  It also automatically (and repeatedly despite my attempts) creates a new folder mapping within the Workspace to support this new structure.
I've tried working through this, with a number of different methods to try and resolve it, including deleting the project file locally and starting again, the thing is very insistent that it knows best, rather than how I've configured it.
It's rather distressing that as a result of this that I've lost some of my recent work.
Can anybody advise?  I've never seen this odd behaviour before from TFS, I did wonder if a recent patch to the TFS may be responsible?
    much appreciated,
    Regards Phill.

    Hi Phill,
    Thanks for your post.
    You’re using TFS 2013 Update 4 and VS 2013 Update 4?
After you performed Get Latest Version on your solution, all your recent work(web site front end code) be deleted from your Website folder?
Have you checked the Website folder content in your VS>>Source Control Explorer, this same issue also shows in Source Control Explorer or if only happened in your local workspace folder after you performed Get Latest Version on your solution?
If the Website folder structure and content show correctly in Source Control Explorer, please logon another client and reproduce this scenario on in this
another  client, check if the latest Website folder shows correctly on that another client’s local workspace folder.
If get latest version works fine on another client, it seems this issue only happened on your client, you can try below two ways to resolve it:
Remove your current Workspace and local workspace folders, then create a new Workspace and mapping in this new Workspace.
Try to clean the cache on your client manually(delete the content of the folder only, not the cache folder itself),
the cache folder path on client is: C:\Users\username(Team Explorer user name)\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Team Foundation\5.0\Cache.

  • Installing WIX Toolset after Visual Studio 2013 setup corrupts Visual Studio

    Hi,
Installing Wix toolset Version 3.8 seems to corrupt the Visual Studio installation. After installing Visual Studio 2013 on Windows 7 x64, I install the WIX toolset version 3.8 (latest stable release). After this VS cannot be opened.
Any others on the forum that can confirm this as an issue with WiX 3.8, or anyone know a solution for this problem?
    SWEDEV

    Hello SWEDEV,
    I've just checked this link
    https://wix.codeplex.com/releases/view/115492 and find the following:
Major features of WiX v3.8 are:
Support for Visual Studio 2013 in Votive and the WiX native libraries. (Bob Arnson and Rob Mensching)
Bootstrapper application functions to extend WixStandardBootstrapperApplication. (Neil Sleightholm
It seems it WiX v3.8 is supported on Visual Studio 2013. In my mind, the issue may due to some corrupt setting or extensions on your Visual Studio.
Please try some common steps below to see if your issue can be fixed:
Please open an administrative CMD window and navigate to C:\Program Files (x86)\Microsoft Visual Studio 12.0\Common7\IDE and run these commands:
    1.devenv.exe /safemode
    2.devenv.exe /resetskippkgs
    3.devenv.exe /installvstemplates
    4.devenv.exe /resetsettings
    5.devenv.exe /resetuserdata
Note that the above steps are unrelated and so checking if your issue has been resolved, after every step may help you save time on steps that were not required!
Please rename these 2 registry keys under the registry editor:
    HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\VisualStudio\12.0_Config
    HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\VisualStudio\12.0
By the way, have you ever tried to repair Visual Stuido before? If you haven't, please try it.
    Regards,
    Barry Wang

  • Building SSIS Packages from TFS Build 2013

    Hi,
Can you please suggest me the MSBuild Arguments for Building the SSIS Packages using
    TFSBuild2013?
    Thanks, Krishna

    Hi Krishna,
SQL Server Integration Services (SSIS) Projects that we can create and build in Visual Studio that are not supported by MSBuild. That means we can’t use MSBuild to build them from a command line and we can’t build them if they’re contained in a solution
    we’re building with Team Build.
The information in this blog post may be of interest to anyone out there that is using Continuous Integration with MSBuild in order to build/deploy a project that includes SSIS packages. For more information about the blog, please see:

  • Error Connecting to TFS (VS 2013)

When I connect to the Team Foundation Server. I get an error
Identity providers could not be loaded from ACS.

    Hi fishbowl08,
For this problem, you can set your default browser to IE. Then clean team foundation cache, delete credentials that saved in credential manager and delete browser cookies. Another option is have a try on other machines. Thanks for your understanding.

  • Migrating from Git to TFS 2013

    Hi,
I have TFS 2013 and want to migrate GIT source code to TFS. I was able to migrate the code with history but want to ask for a way where by I can keep branches also intact. I want to give away from GIT and want to use Git support from TFS itself.
    Thanks,
    Suman

    Hi Suman,
Since you use GitHub, and it's a 3rd party hosted service which like Visual Studio Online(TFS online). Actually, you can connect to Git team project of Visual Studio Online and publish your git repository to GitHub. And also connect to the git repository
via Team Explorer. As for Visual Studio Online, Microsoft is working on adding support to allow Git repos to be added to
TFVC team projects in the near future. Check the user voice for more info:
    http://visualstudio.uservoice.com/forums/121579-visual-studio/suggestions/3612921-support-converting-tfs-online-project-from-tfsvc-t
For your scenario, you might need to move from GitHub to TFS git repostiry, then import a git repository to TFS. Please check the links below for the detailed information:
    https://tomkrueger.wordpress.com/2013/05/13/move-from-github-to-tfs-git-repository/

  • Unable to connect TFS 2013.4 server

Recently we created new TFS server 2013.4 on Windows server 2008 R2 in Domain A. We connected to this machine from Domain B using Win 7 RDC.
From VS 2013 of domain B  machine, we were able to craete a new Team project in default Collection.
Now we are unable to connect to TFS server (Domain A) using VS 2013 ( Domain B). Error code we get is TF400324.
RDC ( from Domain B) is working fine to go to TFS server machine( Domain A).
Web access ( from Domain B) of TFS is also working fine. Able to create new users / see repository etc..
    Please suggest

    Hi SaranRam,
It's suggested to use the same version of VS and TFS, and it would be better to use Visual Studio/Team Explorer 2013 to work with TFS 2013.
For your situation, you can have a try to Team Explorer 2013 separately to connect to the team project in TFS 213 and work with the upgraded projects. You can also have a check on other machines to see if it works for you. Another option is clean team founation
cache to see if it's related to your credential. Also view event logs to see if there any useful information.
About the second link you referred, please have a double check if  you have configured it properly. And elaborate more details if the issue persists.
