The functions in Teststand "express browser dialog"

Teststand provides several functions in Teststand "express browser dialog" to facilitate calculations. For example, I can use the function of "SetNumElements" to get the size of certain arrary. However, compared with in CVI, it seems that that's far away from engough.For example, there's no functions like advanced analysis library.
I'm wondering whether Teststand has provided much more functions than what are already listed in "express browser dialog", if yes, where can I get a reference manual to find the functions that I need.
In order to make it clearer, the meaning of ""express browser dialog" is shown in attached file.

I want to comment that Dennis is exactly right about the intent of TestStand.
TestStand is meant to connect and augment code you write in LabVIEW, CVI, and/or Visual Studio, not to replace it. Also, what he refers to as putting functionality in a "custom step" can mean just calling a VI, DLL, server, or assembly from a TestStand step, not necessarily the similarly named but more involved process of creating a custom step type.
Custom step types are good for wrapping a function or VI with a user friendly configuration dialog to facilitate re-use. However, in many cases it is more than adequate to simply passing arguments to a code module you call directly.
It is certainly true that having a large number of code module files can make it more difficult to move a sequence without forgetting to include one of its dependencies. The TestStand deployment tool is designed to help mitigate this problem by identifying dependencies and packaging them all into one directory or installer.

Hello,
I am designing my own compnonent, in which i need the Teststand's expression browser component. Is this exposed to the users? For example, if i have a button f(x), on clicking of which, the expression browser dialog should show up. Is this avaliable for direct use to the users? If not, how can i implement the same?

You can call Engine.DisplayBrowseExprDialogEx, or perhaps better yet, use an ExpressionEdit UI control, goto the Buttons property page, and add an expression browser button.

if i'm understanding you correctly, <input type="file"
name="foo" /> ... but this isn't CF. it's straight HTML.

In the expression editor dialog box my TAB key doesn't function correctly

This is bizarre behavior that seems to have started recently.
In Visual Studio 2012, an SSRS project, any expression editor dialog:
The tab key doesn't work right.
Open the expression editor and:
* I see a blinking cursor and I can type in the expression box.
* If I hit the tab key, the cursor disappears and I cannot type. I appear to lose focus in the editor but focus doesn't appear to go anywhere else in the dialog box.
* If I hit the tab key a 2nd time, the cursor is still gone and I cannot type.
* If I hit the tab key a 3rd time, I can finally type again and note that I am now
3 tabstops in. In other words it seems like the tabs were working but I lost the ability to type anything until I "tab" 3 magical times.
I can work around this by hitting tab key then grabbing the mouse and clicking where the cursor SHOULD be which returns focus to the text area.

According to your description, as you said that the cursor disappears and cannot type issue. It seems that the issue may be not Visual Studio the VS IDE issue.

Needing to convert a local "numeric" value to a string type using the expression browser.

I am trying to convert a "numeric" local value to a string through the expression browser in order to supply a string arguement. I am currently looking through the expression browser options, but I can not find any type of Number "ToString()" function.

Save File dialog from dll is not appearing to the front of TestStand window

Hi all,
I am calling a C#.net dll from a step in TestStand sequence. A function is called which pops up a Save File dialog. This Save File dialog is appearing only behind other windows. There is an overload for the showDialog function that takes the owner form as argument. My dll doesnot have a form. I would like to know how can I pass the TestStand form as owner to this Save File dialog object.

Is it possible to hide the save function and only use the save as function in teststand

Hi,
When i'm done building a sequence i want to prevent other engineers to save the sequence with the same filename (or version number).
Is it somehow possible to "hide" the save button and only use the save as function?
Or is there another possiblity to solve my problem.
The idea is to have a sequence called Sequence_V1.0.seq which i have build. When installing this in a factory enviroment I would like whenever there is a change needed in the sequence that the version number increases (manual action) (becomes Sequence_V1.1.seq). So from the moment you want to save i would like to only have the function save as. In this way you are obligated to fill in a new sequence name (original sequence will be read-only)
What would even be great if there could be a log of what the changes were

1) You could mark the file as read-only, by default you would then not be able to save over it. The user could make it not read-only though if they know what they are doing.
2) Another possibility is to lock the sequence file for editing (this is a teststand feature). Go to the Sequence File Property dialog, on the advanced tab, where it says Password Protection, set it to Not Editable and give it a good password. This doesn't however keep someone from saving another file to the same name as the locked one, but they at least won't be able to saved the locked file again without your password, nor will they be able to edit it.

I am developing the teststand specify module using LabVIEW. I found that is Expression Edit control in the Labview Controls pallete. does anyone have any example?
I have enabled the expression browser button but I dont know how to link it to the teststand. Pls advise.

Hi Ewan,
Uninstalling and reinstalling in the right order would ensure that everything was properly associated. However, I don't think that should be necessary yet in your situation. Please go to Control Panel > Programs and Features > National Instruments Software to see the full list of National Instruments software you have installed. From here you should be able to select any individual installation from the list and select "Repair". Instead of just seeing that something is already installed and exiting, this should go through the installation and check for corruption. As well, this should add the correct associations if they were currently missed due to the order of installation.
Please try running a repair of SignalExpress 2013 and restarting your computer, then check to see if the functions palette in LabVIEW is fully populated.

As a completely different approach, in 8i SQL and 9i PL/SQL we can use the CASE function. This delivers decode functionality, but allows us to use conditions e.g.
SELECT CASE WHEN col BETWEEN 1 and 9 THEN 'one' ELSE 'two' END FROM my_table;I love DECODE and wouldn't use anything else for straight value substitutions but CASE does have the advantage of clarity when it comes to maths, etc. Also I believe DECODE is not ANSI compliant. In which case (ho ho!) I suspect it will probably be deprecated, as Oracle seems to be moving towards ANSI SQL compliance, as part of its open standards drive.

How can I create a function using TestStand variables and call it from a step's Pre-Expression?

In one sequence I have dozens of Pre-Expressions which are almost the same thing, like this...
Locals.tagID = (Parameters.singlePhaseEnabled ? "L" : "D") & Str(Locals.phase) & "006"
...and the only thing different is that three digit string at the end ("006" will vary). How can I write a function that I can call from a step's Pre-Expression so it would look something like this? ...
Locals.tagID = MyNewFunction("006")

You cannot write custom commands for expressions.
That being said, there are a couple of options:
Create a subsequence with a single step. Use a parameter of the sequence as "function parameter".
Create a custom step type including a substep module which implements the function. Add an edit substep to enable the user of the steptype to gracefully change the parameter.
Store the variable parameter in a local/file global variable and modify the value in each step. This will, at least, keep the "function" the same for every step.

It's on the Controls palette. Were you looking on the Functions palette?
