The ultimate java problem: can't fix it anyway...

Folks,
Somehow I am stuck in this strange situation where I can't get my java to work properly.
Some background:
1) I migrated from an old mac with Snow Leopard to a new mac with Lion (migration assistant)
2) I try to do some fixing by myself (good old bash scripting)
Once I realized everything was kind of messed up, I tried to make a fresh install (deleted everything I found about java, download the new installer from Oracle and followed the instructions) but to no help.
I think I have one partially working version of Java in my machine because I am able to run Virtual Box. Besides that, I can't:
1) Open java applets on websites (Safari 64 bit)
Tried my online banking, http://javatester.org/version.html and http://www.w3.org/People/mimasa/test/object/java/clock.
2) Open Java Control Panel under System Preferences
3) Remove Java Control Panel under System Preferences
Tried this because I think I am not being able to fully remove java from my system to make a fresh install.
I can't use my time machine backup, because it is way too old.
Some, it all comes down to this point: can someone help to completely remove java from my system (binaries, configurations files, system preference panel, etc) so I am can try a fresh install?
It is really important for me to have java applets on my browser (online banking) and java working on my computer (tons os software).

Since you say you migrated from a previous system, chances are that you migrated Java SE 6 from Apple in the process.
Yes, it probably came with the migration.
You also said that you removed everything you could find related to Java, so that's all probably gone, along with some things that came with Lion and should probably have been left there.
Things to note:
I followed the procedures found here (http://docs.oracle.com/javase/7/docs/webnotes/install/mac/mac-jre.html) and there is nothing saying that I should remove java 6 prior to the installation
It stopped working before I removed "java stuff" which was exactly the same things you pointed with your link.
Since it did not work, then I started the "agressive" approach of removing everything java-related with the help of "find". Is important to note that, when I reinstalled the java after my "cleaning process", it did came to the same behaviour as before the step 2.
Another idea would be to install the Java SE 7 JDK fromhttp://www.oracle.com/technetwork/java/javase/downloads/index.html. Again, I don't really see how that will help since it's your web browser, but it should get java -version working again for you.
It did not get my java working again on the terminal, neither on my browser.
Why not? All it does is replace OSs components and basic Apple apps, leaving everything else in place.
For me it is way to much the "Windows way" of fixing stuff: you don't know what went wrong? Reinstall everything...
I will probably give up and do this, but for me there is something wrong either in the mac process of data migration or the oracle process of java installation (how come the installation be sucessfull if you don't garantee that everything is working?)
QUESTION: is there any apt-get like for Mac which I could check for broken "packages" and install only the missing stuff? I am more inclined in acceptiing this approach than reinstalling everything...

It isn't the fw in Network you want o use or look at, that's for something completely different.
My first suspect is the Power Adapter on the LaCie has gone.
At the Apple Icon at top left>About this Mac, then click on More Info, then click on Hardware>Firewire, what is listed there?

If your Firewire or USB isn't recognizing any device. A solution which has worked for some whose hard drive became invisible in 10.4 was simply to follow these four steps to reset the Firewire/USB bus:
1. Shut the machine down.
2. UNPLUG the power lead to the computer and any firewire/USB drive or devices.
3. leave it for 10 minutes.
4. Connect back up and reboot.

Now I checked the materials that I got from AT&T Yahoo and
port 25 is used as the outgoing mail port, 110 for incoming.
This is for the POP type account provided by AT&T, not necessarily for an email account and SMTP server not provided by AT&T.
Sounds like AT&T blocks using an SMTP server that is outside of their network or not provided by AT&T on Port 25.
Try the following first.
Go to Mail > Preferences > Accounts and under the Account Information tab for your .Mac account preferences at the SMTP server selection, select the Server Settings button below for the .Mac SMTP server.
Enter 587 in place of 25 in the Server Port field and when finished, select OK to save the changed setting.
If this doesn't work, we will go to plan B.

Downgrading to a previous version of iOS is not supported. If you have installed software to perform unauthorized modifications to your iOS device, that software may have redirected connections to the update server (gs.apple.com) within the Hosts file. Edit out the "gs.apple.com" redirect from your hosts file, and then restart the computer for the host file changes to take affect. Try contacting iTunes via email to check if there is an issue with the account. go to apple.com/support/itunes
Click on iTunes Store account and billing and select inquiries. On the right side click on "email us".
Before doing that trying viewing your account information first. Open the iTunes on you mac, look at the menu and select store and select view my account. Try removing the card (this is only applicable if you don't have a pending charges with iTunes) and hit done. Sign out, quit iTunes and sign back in and try updating the apps again.

FCP, and all software on OSX, has a few different "preference" files (the extension is .plist), which store all your user settings. Each time you resize a window, change a setting, anything, this file is re-written. Kinda easy to see how they would become corrupt every now and then.
-Close FCP
-Navigate to User>Library>Preferences and delete com.apple.FinalCutPro.plist
-Navigate to User>Library>Preferences>Final Cut Pro User Data and delete Final Cut Pro 5.0 Prefs
-Empty your trash
Relaunch FCP and see if that worked.
Download FCP Rescue to make this process easier in the future. When you have FCP running really smooth, open FCP Rescue and create a backup of your preference files. If it starts acting wanky, just run FCP Rescue and Restore your backup preferences. Works really slick, and it's free.

However, during my wait for your supervisor, just when I stepped away from my desk for a moment you must have picked up your phone again. When I heard a noise (other than the hold music) I rushed back to my desk only to hear you hang up. When the phone rang and the ANI said "Apple support" I tried to pick up but you were gone by the time I got the button pressed.

That's the problem, then. The files are under your 'old' user account. You should be able to access them if you log into your old account. However, that's not going to let you move them to your new user account. It's for situations like this that I always create a root user account (although I seldom access it). With a root user account, you can copy files from one user account to another. Note that someone may come up with a better idea than what I would use, but here goes.
Read http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1528 and set up a root user. Then you can transfer files from one account to another. If you like, you can delete this account after you've moved your files.

You cannot. Copy everything you want form the old computer to the new one, then sync it.
it basically says you have to erase your iphone to sync to a new itunes!
Correct Iphone will sync, or manually manage, with one and only one computer/library at a time. Syncing, or manually managing, to another will indeed erase the current content.
