The whole purpose of taxonomies

Hey all,
I am confused about the taxonomies and classifications. I want to explain you my problem:
I know: Taxonomies are responsible for the hierarchical ordering of catogories. That' theoretical OK. So, I can classify my documents in several categories of taxonomies. As far as this point I understand all. But: Why can I do this? If I arrange my documents in there hierarchical folder, I have also a classification and I can search for the folder name and I get my documents. But if I search for the name of a taxonomy, I get no results. So in my opinion it has also no sence to classify one document in several categories, when I cannot work with these classifications. (But I am sure there must be a sence:-) )
So: Why do I classify my documents in the categories of taxonomies? What is the whole purpose of them?

Hi Susanne,
the idea behind taxonomies is to give the user an alternative way to find the documents. Some users like to use the search, the others like to navigate via folder structure. If you have only one hierarchical structure, you would need to save the same document in many folders, so that the users can find it, even if she/he looks only in one specific folder. By saving the documents in many folders, you have a big problem when you want to update the document. With taxonomies you have virtual hierarchical structures additional to the physical one, and the documents can be found in different folders (via browsing), but the are only saved once.
As it is an alternative to search, you should not need to search in taxonomy structures (what is acutally not possible in KM).

I suspect that beautify doesn't touch CSS that it is not aware of (e.g. new properties/syntaxes, vendor-prefixes). See if there's a newer version available.
Which compressed CSS are you using? Most CSS libraries come with both compressed and original stylesheets, so use the original one during development/debugging, and switch to the compressed one for deployment.

This is a problem with the Mac OS X implementation of exFAT. I've had the same problem.
Best is to use a Windows box to format the drive exFAT. Then it can be read by both Windows and Mac OS.
But aren't Macs supposed to "Just Work"? Not in this case.

Refreshing a single portlet rather than the whole portal page

Ok, here's my situation.
I have two pdk portlets on my portal that communicate through page parameters. Portlet A has a bunch of search fields, a customer drop-down list, parts drop-down list, division, etc. Portlet B takes those parameters, queries the database, and displays the results. I would like to be able to refresh portlet B without reloading the whole portal page.
I have onchange events on all of my drop-downs that will do a javascript post back to portal, which will in turn set my page parameters, and I see there is a 'refreshPortlet' function in a javascript file that portal provides that will refresh a single portlet based on a portletReferenceId. It is normally called when a refresh button is clicked in the portlet header, but I don't see any reason I can't call it after my javascript post, that is, if I had the portletReferenceId for the other portlet. I thought about making a hidden html table on the page that, I could fill with the portlet names and ids for each portlet as they load, that way I could reference that list from any portlet. The problem is I can't figure out where the ids are coming from. Based on the code behind the button, the function is looking for something like this 646_701285_646_1_701271, but the closest thing I can come up with is this 676114_POSTCONTENTPORTLET_467414915 which I got from PortletRenderRequest.getPortletInstance().getInstanceName(). As you can see, it's not even close. Does anyone know where the correct id could be coming from? It's got to be available to me somewhere, doesn't it?
The only other option I can think of to accomplish my goal is to use straight up ajax to display portlet B, but that kind of defeats the purpose of portal doesn't it?
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

You can use Ctrl+F4 to close the current tab. I don't think that you can change the Alt+F4 action with Keyconfig.

How to edit linked text in an Indesign long document without it effecting the whole document

I want to work out how to edit text in indesign without the rest scrolling
I have a large 200 page book. The text was supplied in Word and I have placed the whole document automatically and now I am going through each page doing my magic with pics, stylesheets etc.
When the client comes back with edits, I am concerned that deleted or adding in text will scroll the text to the next chapter, etc etc. This will be a nightmare. Not sure how to unlink say 5 pages or so that are in each chapter so I can edit easily without the whole document being effected.
Apologies I am probably not explaining myself all that well.

You can split the threaded story into separate stories anywhere in the thread. At the chapter breaks seems logical. There are many users who'll assert all sorts of right/wrong at you when it comes to threading text. For my purposes, I set up long documents much the way you propose; threading articles, stories, or chapters discreetly; rarely would I ever thread an entire long document as one. It's a preference, not a rule. Each way has benefits and pitfalls.

Area of the parts != Area of the whole

My tables are polygon datasets stored in NAD83 (SRID=8265) and I have noticed that the sum of area calculations of a subdivided polygon do not equal the area of the original polygon.
I created a simple test case to confirm the results. I created a square polygon, 5 degrees by 5 degrees (-94,36, -89,36, -89,31, -94,31, -94,36), and the resulting area (in square miles) is 99455.7384. I then cut that polygon into 10 irregular pieces which, if they were unioned back together, would equal the original polygon exactly. If I calculate the area on these polygons and sum the area, the result is 99444.1878 (a difference of ~11.5 square miles). I have increased the precision of the area fields to rule out problems caused by rounding or truncation. Why does the sum of the area of the parts not equal the area of the whole? Is there any way to perform a more rigourous area calculation that will give me areas that equal each other? I was wondering about triangulating the polygons (sort of like a TIN structure) before doing the area calculations to reduce error caused by the irregularity of the polygons. A tringulation solution would be ok for smaller datasets, but I am working with datasets that have 4 million polygons, so triangulation would be a bit time-consuming. It is important for our reporting purposes that the area sums equal the original area.
On a somewhat related topic, I have also noticed that if I intersect that same starting polygon from above (5 degrees by 5 degrees) with another polygon dataset that extends beyond the boundaries of this polygon, the northen and southern boundaries of the resulting 'intersected' dataset are curved northward, with the northern boundary extending a small bit beyond the original boundary. I get resulting polygons that have coordinate values greater than 36 in the y dimension (northern boundary of the original), and only two coordinates that are equal to 31 which are found at the southern corners of the original. I understand that this is caused by the use of 'great circles' to calculate the shortest distance between my two northern boundary points and between my two southern boundary points, so this is not a 'bug' because great circles are not the same as latitude parallels. Is there any way to force the sdo_intersection command to perform the intersecetion while treating the coordinates as 'cartesian' coordinates, so that none of the resulting coordinate values extend beyond the original boundaries of my dataset?

It is very likely that the first part of your question is related to the information you understand from the second part of your question, which is that Oracle uses great circles to connect points in a geodetic coordinate system.
-94,36 connecting to -89, 36 actually deviates from the 36 degree line of latitude by almost 3km at its greatest (2885.3 meters at coordinate -91.5,36). That distance is smallest near the actual vertices and gets larger and larger until the midpoint between the coordinates specified (hence 91.5,36).
If you arbitrarily cut that polygon into several pieces, then depending on how you slice it you could get a polygon with greater or smaller area than the original (if you slice horizontally you will get an area larger than the original, if you slice vertically the area is smaller).
So hopefully the above explains the first part of your question.
The second part of your question relates to the ability of Oracle to densify coordinates to either eliminate or greatly reduce the "drift" of the data along a line of latitude.
Starting in Oracle 10g, the ability to specify a a geodetic "rectangle" was added to spatial/locator). This is done by specifying just the lower left and upper right coordinates, and using an sdo_elem_info_array of (1,1003,3) where the interpretation of 3 means you are specifying a rectangle. So your polygon would be specified as
sdo_geometry(2003,8265,null,sdo_elem_info_array(1,1003,3),sdo_ordinate_array(-94,31,-89,36))
Internally, this signals Oracle to densify this geometry at 1 degree intervals along the lines of latitude, so the movement off of the latitude line is limited.
How limited? The "drift" off the line of latitude is greatest at 45 degrees north and south (this makes sense if you think about it - there is no drift at the equator, which of course is a great circle itself, and there is no drift at the poles). So you can use spatial to calculate the greatest drift:

So at 45 degrees north latitude, when densifying automatically every degree, the greatest movement from the line of latitude is about 121.3 meters.
If you need to follow the line of longitude more precisely, you can densify at greater precision. For instance, if you densify at 0.5 degree intervals your greatest drift is about 30 meters. If you densify at 0.1 degree intervals along the line of latitude your greatest difference is about 1.21 meters.
You could write a function to automatically densify, being careful near the poles so you don't create invalid geometries.

Some keys don't work as expected
From the Apple menu, choose System Preferences.
From the View menu, choose Speech.
Click the Text to Speech tab.
If "Speak selected text when the key is pressed" is enabled, the key or key combination set to speak text cannot be used for other purposes or used to type text--click Set Key and change it to a less-commonly used key combination (try to use modifier keys such as Shift, Command, Option, and Control). Or, disable the "Speak selected text when the key is pressed" option.
Click the Universal Access pane in System Preferences, click the Keyboard tab.
Make sure that Slow Keys is turned off. With Slow Keys on, you need to press a key for a longer period of time for it to be recognized.
In the Universal Access pane, click the Mouse tab, and make sure Mouse Keys is turned off. With Mouse Keys enabled, you cannot use the Numeric Keypad to enter numbers--instead the keypad moves the pointer (cursor). (There is an option to enable Mouse Keys with five presses of the Option key; you may want to turn that option off to avoid accidentally enabling it.) If Mouse Keys is enabled and you are using a keyboard with no numeric keypad or Num Lock function, see Unable to type while Mouse Keys is enabled in Mac OS X.
If the function keys on the top row of the keyboard are not working as expected, see Mac OS X: How to change the behavior of function keys.
If the issue persists, use Keyboard Viewer to help isolate the issue:
Click the Language & Text pane (Mac OS X v10.6) or International pane (Mac OS X v10.5.8 or earlier) in System Preferences.
Click the Input Sources tab (or Input Menu tab in Mac OS X 10.5.8 or earlier).
Click the Keyboard & Character Viewer "On" checkbox to select it (click the Keyboard Viewer "On" checkbox in Mac OS X 10.5.8 or earlier).
From the Input (flag) menu, choose Show Keyboard Viewer.
If the keyboard is connected and detected by Mac OS X, the keys you type will highlight in the Keyboard Viewer window. Open TextEdit (or any text application), and try to type something using the keys that were previously not responding to see if they highlight in Keyboard Viewer.
Start from the Mac OS X Install Disc, choose Terminal from the Utilities menu and test the keys which were previously not working. If the keys work while started from the Install disc, then the keyboard itself is working correctly. Use Mac OS X: How to troubleshoot a software issue to isolate the software issue that may be causing the keys to not respond.

How to disable a single cell in a table (and not the whole column)

Hi there,
I've got a webdynpro table with a few columns, rows can be created dynamically through a button in the table toolbar.
Depending on the value of a certain cell I have to disable another cell (in the same row).
I tried to manipulate the view in the modifyview but no joy. I also tried to manipulate the attribute property through the coding below:

Instead of binding the read only property of table as a whole , just bind the read only property of column group of table., You can do this bu drill down the table and select the required column and bind the read only column.,
then In onAction Event of button .,
loop the table, if condition satisfied set the read only property to true else false.,!!

I recently managed to get the whole casing of my 13" Macbook Pro (Mid-2009) replaced due to a missing foot and dodgy spacebar. The lid is dented and scratched so would like to know how much it would cost to replace? I know its not covered by AppleCare.

So i took my Macbook Pro 13'' (Mid-2009) into Apple because the spacebar was jammed and I had one of the feet of the bottom casing missing which was unusual (black circles). The unibody and bottom plate had a fair few dents and nicks and under AppleCare I was able to get the whole unibody and bottom case fixed for free. Saved myself a good £181!
This now leaves my lid which has one or two noticeable dents and the bottom right part is suffering from several scratches. I was wondering how much a new lid would cost if I took it into Apple? I know it won't be covered under AppleCare as its accidental damage but want to know whether its worth paying for to have a once again dent free Macbook Pro .
As a side note, do Apple upgrade your hardware at all, such as the hard drive or memory? I know it would be cheaper to do it at an independant computer shop or by myself but would like to explore my options first.

How to populate the whole path of the button in a field when the button is clicked.

I have around 5 uploads in my file. I kept a hidden field on the header of the form. When ever i click on the upload button, the path of it needs to be populated in the hidden text field.
by using this.parent we can get the parent name of the element.
is there any method similar to the above one to get the whole path of the button????????

Try putting this script in the click event of the button

This ought to work using either FormCalc or JavaScript. I'm not sure from your description whether you will need to use the full path name for the hidden text field or use a relative one, but that's not too hard to deal with.

How can I export a group email address to a .csv file. I can export the whole address book but it looses the group listings.

I have an address book in Thunderbird and want to export one group listing to a .csv file. I couldn't find a way of exporting one group so exported the whole address book then opened the .csv file and was going to remove the all addresses except the group but the group name was not in the file.
Is it possible to export the group listing.

Open Address Book, select the mailing list in the left pane, then Tools/Export, select csv (comma separated) format, name the file, click Save.

Generation of Annual Leave Quota at a time for the whole year

Kindly give some suggestions.
I am working on Time evaluation. We have a quota , Annual leave which is now given on monthly basis, means lets 12 annual leave are for whole year and employee are getting 1 leave on each month.
Now my requirement is to give this quota at a time in the start of every year. That means all the 12 annual leave should be generated in the start of a year.
When I select the option no pro rata calculation then I am getting all this leave in the start of the year. But when an employee is joined in the mid of the year then also 12 leave is been generated which is not correct.
Please suggest me how to make this leave as prorated so that for new joinee , this leave is generated taking into account the period and generate the prorate value for the whole year at the time of joining.

I am using + time evaluation Status-2. We have to generate quota in PT60 for each period.
Write now we are getting annual leave quota getting generated in monthly basis. We want to genarate whole quota for the year in the 1st month of the year.
When I have given calender year in the accrual period , i am not getting any quota in the 1st month rather getting the whole quota in the end of the year.
Please suggest me what to do.
