I need to buy another usb, pcmcia or mini pci-e wireless card.
Can you recommend one that works well? Because I never work with wifi cards on linux.

Finally came the expected driver, I think it's premature but it works perfectly.
Here the driver (r8192se_pci):

untar; make; make install; reboot and enjoy it
I test it with:
netcfg
standar commands:

wpa_supplicant -B -Dwext -i wlan0 -c /etc/wpa_supplicant.conf
dhcpcd wlan0
The first time I compile the module, function correctly, but after scan for available networks I haven't any results.
Recompile and everything worked again

Please note that the T500 has different hardware configurations.
Other options in wireless card (for the T500): intel 5100 - intel 5300.

As for your wireless issue, which tool are you using? A quick google around seems to suggest that netcfg in combination with wpa supplicant can connect to LEAP encrypted networks, eg this thread. Are you also aware that there are graphical tools to do this for you that you may find easier, such as wicd?

Let me list in order of time the issues I faced and solved about this wifi card: 0) First issue is not about RT3290 card itself but it is related to 802.11w encryption compatibility in between Windows8 and Cisco not allowing 802.11n speed rates so failing to G speeds only. - SOLUTIONS: a. As first test I would recommend trying another router from different brand to see if connecting at 802.11n speed rates b. If you prove point a issue, then try to fix the issue based on following post (in which you can see the reply from myself Emanuele on the 29th of Nov 2014): https://supportforums.cisco.com/document/113836/windows-8-clients-cant-associate-cisco-unified-wireless 1) Signal strenght issue: original wifi card RT3290 installed on my HP laptop was having really bad antenna, with signal fluctuating and sometimes bad even really close to any Router I tried. - SOLUTION: Replace the RT3290 card even with same new card. (In my case as laptop was under warranty, I proved the issue via screenshots and they replaced with new card solving my signal strenght issue). 2) Original issue (1) was actually resolved after HP replaced the wifi card with same model, but with the latest driver installed 5.0.45 seems like wifi rates change too frequently based on high sensitivity of the driver itself, so that suggested me issue was still there, so making me re-testing anything from scratch. - SOLUTION: Install 5.0.37 Driver - frequent rate changes issue (with driver 5.0.45) disappears and sensitivity of signal to rate changes seems to be a really good compromise to have good throughput. 3) To check out 2nd issue above I started again using a third party software inSSIDer free version to check signal while I was doing speedtest on web.
- RESOLUTION:
inSSIDer normally works on Windows7 without any issue but on Windows8 (at least tested with RT3290) I have just discovered somehow this software was slowing down wifi card performance drastically showing a speed up to 0.1Mbps rather than 40Mbps. Simply closing the application issue was not recurring, so uninstalled it and after solving all the other issues above this card works perfectly (at least so far ) Hope this post will be informative and will help other about-to-get-mad guys as meHye. After I read up your solutions, I am quite impressive and really want to try out those solutions. However, I am not very computer wise and I really appreciate if you make a video on solving this problem. Since last week, I got a T500 as my new company Notebook.
I noticed, that it has an internal HSPA Modem.
The first I did was to update the drivers and Lenovo Software. Now the Ericson driver Version is 4.50.6.0
As I try to establish a connection, it tells me "No Sim Card found". I tested it with my "3" UMTS Card and with a "Vodafone" Card from my colleague.
Hotline said there is no Sim Lock but no more Help from Helpdesk
Is there somebody in the community that has an idea?

Dead laptop - bad wifi card or ???
Hi all,
Oddball question: I have a Lenovo t410i that is completely dead. About two years ago, I dropped a bit of water on the keyboard, and something got fried so that the keys wouldn't type correctly anymore. When I went to replace the keyboard, I accidentally ripped one of the cables from the Intel Wifi Card (model 622anhmw). When this happened, the laptop would not power on. After two years, I am finally sitting down to try and fix this, but before I go buy a new wifi card (the cable was ripped out with the solder connection), I wanted to ask if anyone out there knew whether simply replacing the wifi card will actually solve the problem.
Seems like it's a pretty strange thing for the laptop to route all power through this tiny card, but I've seen stranger things.
Thanks!My WAG is a blown fuse (if there are any in that laptop) or something else that got yanked on and shorted when the cable was ripped out.

i have a hp 17-e119wm and it does not come with a dual band wifi card. i have a 5ghz router and this computer cant connect so what type of wifi card should i get? also when i try to open that door to the ram, hdd and wifi card, the screw dosent come out and i cant open it. any help?

[SOLVED] Problem with Networkmanager and two WiFi cards
I have two WiFi cards, one onboard my laptop, one USB. I use the USB one since gets a stronger signal, but the other one tries to connect.
Is there a way of stoping that.
I don't want to cancel the possibility of using it, just when I plug the USB antenna.

Problem with Win 7 x64, WWAN or WiFi card and Windows XP Mode
I have a T500 with switchable graphics (2056-4RU) with a clean install of Windows 7 Pro x64 with the AT&T WWAN card.
With all the Win7 RTM drivers and Access Connections for Win7, I had a problem that the WWAN card (Ericson F3507g, purchased from Lenovo and working flawlessly under Vista 32-bit) would not initialize. Support told me to uninstall the Win 7 versions of the Power Manager Drivers, WWAN card driver and Access Connections and replace them with the Vista counterparts, which restored the functionality of my WWAN card. Based on the speed with which the support tech came up with the suggested fix, I suspect I am not the only one with the disappearing WWAN card problem.
Now I have found that starting the Windows XP Mode virtual machine kills the WiFi functionality (Intel WiFi Link 5100 AGN) until I disable and re-enable the WiFi adapter in Device Manager and then restart the system. (I have not problems with XP Mode and with the Win7 drivers / Access Connections opening Windows XP Mode did not cause the problem with the WiFi.) Opening Windows XP Mode causes no problem with the wired network adapter on my system).
Thus it appears that I can have functionality of the WWAN and WiFi adapters with XP Mode using the Released Win 7 versions and functionality of Windows XP Mode together OR I can have WWAN but not WiFi functionality with XP Mode using the Vista drivers that support suggested. However, it seems that I cannot have WWAN, WiFi and XP Mode concurrently.
I reproduced the above XP mode / WWAN problem / WiFi problems on a T500 with Win7 x64 owned by another family member.
Does anyone (particularly anyone from Lenovo) have fix for this?

I have another operator and I finally gave up. apparently it's also no that easy to install the SIM card, if the plastic thing that helps to remove the SIM card is not the right position, it will overlap the SIM Card chip.
can't help for the WIFI. I had the problems too with access connection and decided to remove it. I use Seven's network manager, which does an equally good job.
Since I have the switch to turn off the wireless, I don't really need access connection anyway.
Finally, something that I learns while struggling with the bluetooth driver: the order in which power manager, access connection and the different drivers are installed DOES affect their effectiveness. I forgot the details but I remember 2 things:
always read the TXT file that is available on the driver page on the lenovo web site and install power manager and access connection last.

I was able to solve problems until now.
I am not sure if this is problem of arch kernel, maybe it will be general.

Replacing the Realtek wifi card with an Intel one
Hey everyone,
I am trying to replace the poor performing realtek wifi module with an Intel Centrino one on my T420.
I purchased an "Intel Centrino Advanced-N 6205" which is one of the chips the T420 comes with.
Apparently my chip is not whitelisted, as I could not boot with it plugged in.
Lenovo support was unable to tell me where to get a Lenovo branded chip.
Can anyone help me out?

As you've discovered, wifi cards have to be the correct model (Intel xyz) and have a Lenovo FRU number.
I can't link to the T420 Hardware Maintenance Manual at the moment - support is undergoing maintenance

Wifi card not detected with ifconfig (solved)

I'm not sure wether I should post this here or not...
However, I'm using a Realtek Wifi card RTL8188CE on my laptop and I couldn't succeed in using it. (I'm using Arch x64, it's up-to-date).
I tried using ndiswrapper, but even when the ndiswrapper module is loaded and the driver properly created from the ".inf" file, ifconfig -a still doesn't display anything else than the usual "eth0" and "lo".
Here are the information I think are useful, please tell me if I forgot anything.

I finally solved my problem. It turns out my driver existed on the AUR and all I had to do is load the corresponding module with modprobe.

Compatible WIFI card for Thinkpad a21m, wifi orinoco silver no longer working

My husband passed down his Thinkpad A21M Type 2628-GTU to our son. The wifi card that was with it is a Lucent Technologies Orinoco Silver 11mbit/s t/n 03549501 p/n012938/c. When powered up last night, the ethernet was fully functional, but the wireless card didn't connect to the net. My husband assumed the Lucent card was bad. Is there something compatible I may buy to replace it? Do you have a suggestion on what he might have missed in trying to get it to work at home?
He has used this laptop all over the country including at home before, so I would imagine he knows what he is doing. But, we do have a new service provider since the company upgraded his computer system.

Honestly, it's time to upgrade to a newer card anyway, at least b/g. Any PCMCIA wireless card will work with your A21m, it all depends on your router, and your personal preferences.

(SOLVED) Thinkpad T410 and 3G internet
This post may reflect my lack of experience with notbooks, but I have a question regarding my brand new Thinkpad T410. I didn't choose the notebook myself, it was given to me through my employer. Naturally all administrator privileges are non-existing, so I have to rely on my company's "technical support" for any changes to the software.
Now, if I'm not mistaken this computer should be ready for a sim-card and 3G internet connection (That's WWAN, right?). Model is 2522-WTX. Now, in device manager, I cannot find anything regarding a WWAN module, allthough there is a SIM-card slot under the battery.
I have allready called for my employers support department to help me out, but I know that they just started buying the Lenovo computers, and they don't have that much experience setting them up. So I'm trying to help them out by figuring out what needs to be done. From what I have read so far, installing drivers for this module should activate it. I don't know if the "Access Connection" tool is strictly needed. However, on Lenovo's drivers download page there are too many choices for driver download:
1) HUAWEI EM660 Wireless WAN
2) HUAWEI EM660 Wireless WAN firmware
3) Leadcore 5730D Wireless WAN
4) Thinkpad Wireless WAN (UNDP) - Boot Code Update Utility
5) Thinkpad Wireless WAN (UNDP) - Qualcomm Gobi2000
Do I need all of them? Some? Which ones? Should I be good to go only with the drivers, or is Access Connection needed (I'm running Windows 7)? Is any SIM-card valid, or are there any ISP-related limits I need to know of (currently my mobile internet provider is Netcom, Norway).
I hope that some of you are capable of helping me out, thanks in advance!

Is there any way I should be able to connect through 3G without eiter 3rd party or Lenovo software? Any BIOS-setting that needs to be altered?
PS: I also have none of the Lenovo software preinstalled (Lenovo system update, toolbox etc.). This computer is almost completely stripped :-(
The Qualcomm device on COM5 is the GPS serial interface, the 3G card should be listed under Network Adapters. Once the card is working you should be able to select your provider from inside of access connections to connect.
