Thinkpad T61 wireless access connection problem and heat problem

My laptop keeps heating up ALOT i've been using tpfancontrol to make my fan go really fast and to cool it down. Anyone have a clue what to do about that? It automatically sets itself to smart (fan control config). Also my access connections has been working really bad lately. It won't connect anywhere. When i press fn+f5 and click on the network i want to connect to it would show connection successful and say applying wireless settings with a x next to it. Anyone know what to do about this?! cause i installed and uninstalled and nothing is working =[. Newest access connections and updated wireless drivers. Wireless zero connection is working fine though.
Wireless Card: Intel 4965 AGN
Windows xp pro sp3
Any help would be great.

mind parameter ManModeExit (set to 72 degrees Centigrade in common .ini and 80 if not set by .ini) in TPFanControl.ini:
// Program exits manual mode and switches to smart mode with last chosen
// profile, if this temp (degrees Centigrade or Fahrenheit) is achieved.
// default= 80 degrees Centigrade / 176 degrees Fahrenheit.
ManModeExit=72     //ManModeExit=162   Fahrenheit

  • BOSD, Battery issues and Heating problem after iOS 8 upgrade

i have upgraded my iPad mini to iOS 8. Ever since I upgraded to iOS 8 am facing blue screen issues and heating problem as well. This is really frustrating even the patch iOS 8.0.2 dint solve the problem. Are you guys listening our complaints. When will you fixing it.

The same thing happened to me on my 2012 Subaru Outback.  I'm not sure this will help you since you have a Honda, but I'm posting this just in case.
I paired the audio on my car with my iPhone 6.  However, when I turned the car off and back on again, the iPhone would not pair automatically.  I had to manually connect the iPhone with the car.  Turns out there are two separate bluetooth pairings on my car: one for phone which allows up to 5 devices and one for audio which allows only one device.  So I did the second bluetooth pairing for the phone (had already done the audio), and that fixed it.  YMMV

  • Text problems on X40 Access Connections and Power Manager

Recently, and possibly in conjunction with a recent Lenovo update, Access Connections and Power Manager (at the least, there may be other programs that have problems too, but I have not checked all) display all text as little boxes.  The functionality is still there, but it is kind of hard to figure out what's what.  I have PM 1.6.3 (just installed the latest), but not sure of version of Access Manager, as I can't see it.
I can email a screen shot if needed, but could not figure out how to put one in here.  Any help would be most appreciated.

    Hi Sami,
I just got stuck on the same problem as you and following is what I found in details fro ThinkVantage Access Connections version 5.30. Hope this helps.

    <Limited User>
A Limited user can create and apply only modem profiles. However, if
Administrator sets "Allow Windows users without administrator
privileges to create and apply location profiles" option in the
Global settings then the user can create and apply any kinds of
      profiles in the system.
      Also, a limited user cannot:
      1. Edit setting for the Automatic Ethernet and Wireless location
         profiles switching.
      2. Edit Global settings.
      3. Edit profiles created by another user in the system.
      4. Renew or release IP in the Diagnostics panel.
      5. Export profiles.
The limitations on Power user also apply on Limited user.

  • ThinkVantage Access Connections and Limited User Account (LUA) on XP SP3

Is it really so that one has to be logged on with at least Power User privileges to get the Access Connections utility working properly with 3G/HSDPA? When logging on as a Limited User, the computer can find all the cell phone operators nearby but does not let to do a connect. But when logged on as a Power User, all problems go away.
I would not like to bump up my user privileges from Limited User to Power User, since all else seems to work fine with a Limited User Account. Any ideas about what is going wrong -- or did I just hit into a wall here?
The environment in question is Thinkpad X200 and XP SP3. Access Connections and the HSDPA driver are the latest ones I could find from the Lenovo driver download site (Access Connections v. 5.21, Ericsson HSDPA driver v. 1.0.1046.221).
Would there be any other way to use 3G connections than to use the Access Connections utility (without changing to another o/s)?

  • Access connect auto-switching problem (v5.62)

I have a problem with access connections in that it does not connect to the internet after automatically switching to a new network (proxy error perhaps?). I have to disconnect then reconnect to the network to get it to work (which kinda defeats the purpose). Has anyone had this problem or has a fix for this?
    Thanks in advance.

    Hi,
    this situation sound familiar.
Make sure, that by bother Wifi profiles you have the option "Disable this wirelessa radio when switching to a different location" checked. You can find this in the profile configuration of AC.
Once you have this, go to the "Wireless Settings" tab and hit Properties. A new window will open and make sure, that you have the option "Power save mode:" configured to "Low (best network performance)". This way you should be fine with the location switchings.
Once this is done, go to the "Tools" tab of the main AC GUI and hit "Location switching". I assume, that you have this configured, but I just want to be sure, so here you make sure, that this is enabled and you have one (I would preffer the weeker) WIFI  profile selected in the "Preffered WLAN profile"
BTW: in case one of the profiles uses static IP, then the location switching will not work at all.
If all this is set and it still does not work, then I would say, that it would be goot to update all the application from lenovo.com.
    Cheers

  • Access Connection - Prefer MAC address problem

    Hey
    My specifications:
    Windows Vista
    Access Connection v5.31
After updating access connection I'm not able to prefer MAC addresses for my profiles anymore.
    Edit profile> Wireless settings> Advanced configuration (settings)>
    Preferred access point MAC address.-
This box is grayed out and you're not able to write in the box anymore.
Am I doing something wrong or is this feature just disabled for this version?
Also I remember having seen an old version being able to prefer 5 MAC addresses for one profile
    Thank you!
    / jerian

    Welcome to the Apple discussions.
Is the mac address you're using the one you see when you click on the blue apple, about this mac, more info, network, and scroll down to the mac address? Is it possible there's a mixup between the letter O and zero when entering the mac address?

  • Access Connections 5 and up issues

    Hi,
For years our organization has been using Access Connections 4.52 flawlessly.  Recently we purchased a boat load of R500 notebooks.  At this point, we were forced to upgrade to version 5.20 as 4.52 will not recognize the wireless card.
With 4.52, when a client would boot up wireless and attempt to login to our network , Access Connections would pop up, then attempt the login only AFTER it has connected to the network.  With 5.20, 5.33 and 5.50, this function seems to work ok until I sysprep the image.
After I sysprep our image, this is what happens:  User boots up wireless and attempts to login to our network....gets and error stating "OURDOMAIN is not available"....15 seconds later Access Connections wakes up and connects to the wireless network.  Now, here is the really dumb part.  I can resolve the issue on my image by opening Access Connections > Location Profiles > Select Profile > Edit > OK.   Access Connections will now behave properly, until I sysprep.
Is there any solution out there for this?  Or even better, is there a way I can make 4.52 work on a newer model.  4.52 did not have this issue.
    Thanks
    Rosy

    Hi,
I cannot see it being fair, to blaim Access Connection for situation, that is clearly not caused by Access Connection.
In the past I was working with multiple corporate images, which I of course had to create, which included syspreping the image. And I can tell you, that sysprepping a 100% working image is always, and I really mean ALLWAYS screwing up some part of the image. If you have been doing images for longer time, then surelly you will be agreed with me.
If you are not, then you have not created enough images manually (I mean starting with the times of RIS, going through WDS, IUB, SCCM .... ).
So much for understanding, where to look when you are looking for the root cause.
So Access Connection is a tool, that depends on other applications and driver. Almost the same as by all other TVT applicaitons. For Access Connection it's highly important, that it's installed in following order together with other tools/drivers:
    1) Power Managerment driver
    2) Power Manager
    3) System Interface driver
    4) Hotkey utility/driver
    5) LAN Driver
    6) WLAN driver
    7) WWAN driver
    8) Access Connection
It's highly important, that this order is kept.
So back to the imaging, here is what might happen, when you sysprep the image:
    - you sysprep it, where some parts (usually ini files) are remoted from the dirver installed on the machine.
    - of course you configure the sysprep to load up all the drivers depending on the HW, or some input from the client
    - this will load everything back and inclusiv all the drivers
    ISSUE:
    - WLAN, driver is installed/inicialized after Access Conenction was present in the image
    - by syspreping some of the above menitoned applications from Lenovo are taken as drivers and therefore, they are re-installed only after sysprep kicks-in
I'm pretty sure, that you know, how you install you image and by some points you might not be agreed with what I'm writing, but I was working with the informations, that I could find in your description.
I think more description on the sysprep, or the imaging tool and structure might help me imagine, what is goin on.
BTW: I just remembered, that by olders versions of AC 2.x and 3.x when such issue was present, like also LAN was not detected and all this happened after I installed a corporate image, then my fix for the image was quite simple:
Reinstall all the above drivers + apps in the order as you can see it in here .
    Cheers

  • Directv Wireless Cinema Connection Kit and Time Capsule

    Hi Everyone,
I just received my Directv wireless Cinema Connection kit today.  I recently purchased a 3rd generation 1TB Time Capsule as well.  Everything has been working fine with the TC...no issues whatsoever.  Until I tried connecting the DTV CCK.
Here's the story.  I first tried setting up the DTV kit to my TC and my time capsule was set up with WPA.  The password had 3 lowercase letters and 6 numbers.  I accessed the menu on my DTV to set up the wireless connection.  DTV recognized my network and my guest network.  I went to put in my password so that the DTV kit could access my network but it didn't work.
    I tried again and again...
I tried my password with all lowercase as said before, with all uppercase, with uppercase first letter and lowercase 2nd and 3rd letters, but no luck
Now I have my TC set up with WPA/WPA2 personal with the same password.  I tried again with this configuration and still no luck.
I can move my cable modem and TC so that I can connect it via ethernet, however I want my cable modem and TC to stay in the office.  The wireless connection kit was $30 something dollars (Not much I know) so I want to use it.
    Does anyone have any advice?
    What am I doing wrong?

Hi.  It is working now!  ChristyinTN is absolutely right--the fact that our wireless network password consists of more than one word does not matter.  It only matters that the wireless network password does not have an apostrophe.  The reason why I could not get the DirecTV HD DVR receiver connected to the internet immediately after I removed the apostrophe from our wireless network password is because I had not properly reset everything before I tried to connect again.  So, I reset everything pursuant to this DirecTV forum: http://forums.directv.com/pe/elementDisplayRedirect.jsp?elementID=10986630.  After I reset everything, the connection worked.  Hallelujah.  It's amazing that the DirecTV people (with whom I had been on the phone for hours) neither inquired about whether my wireless network password had a character other than letters and numbers, nor knew how to completely reset everything--both of these ideas have been posted on the DirecTV forum I cited above for one month.  I guess DirecTV doesn't learn from their own posts ...  I want to identify my setup, in hopes that it may help someone else out there.  My DSL is piped into the house through a 2Wire modem provided by AT&T.  The 2Wire modem is bridged to my Apple Time Capsule, so that my Time Capsule serves as the wireless router throughout my entire house (http://thecentershot.wordpress.com/2011/05/12/how-to-configure-set-up-an-apple-t ime-capsule-to-a-att-2wire-2701hg-b-modemrouter/).  I also have an AirPort Express set to my wireless network, simply plugged into a wall outlet, to provide for better reception on the other side of the house.  Because I have DirecTV Whole-Home DVR Service, I set up the DirecTV Cinema Connection Kit pursuant to pages 15-17 in the DCCK's User's Manual.  In particular, I disconnected the coaxial cable from the "SAT IN 1" port on my HD DVR receiver, connected the coaxial cable to the "Towards LNB" port on the DCCK device, connected the enclosed coaxial cable to the "SAT Rcvr" port on the DCCK device and, on the other end, to the "SAT IN 1" port on my HD DVR receiver.  Per the DCCK's User's Manual, I did not use the ethernet cable at all.  The DCCK device's POWER, WLAN, Activity and Coax Network LEDs are all solid green (the Activity LED blinks every now and again).  Strangely, when I was going through the instructions on my television, after I had physically connected the cables between the DCCK device and the receiver, one of the screens after I designated wireless internet connection asked me to confirm that I had used an ethernet cable to connect the DCCK device to the receiver.  Since it provided no other options, I forged ahead (even though I had not used the ethernet cable at all).  Obviously, it was right to do that.  This epitomizes the differences between Apple and DirecTV--one of these companies knows its products; the other one hasn't a clue (or should I say "has not a clue," to remove the apostrophe).  !  Good luck everyone; again, thanks so much for these posts.

  • Thinkpad w520 technical problems and warranty problems

I have a huge problem with my Lenovo ThinkPad W520 (Machine#4270CTO, SN * 11/07) purchased on US website in August 2011. Here is the story below:
In late December 2011 my laptop hardrive stopped working and as I am in Georgia(Caucasus) I went to the Lenovo Authorised Warranty Service Provider (not naming the company). They made the harddrive replacement very quickly and i was happy back then.
By start of January 2012 another problem came - my keyboard stopped completely working and as before I went to the service provider again and the faulty part was also changed in 2 weeks time.
By the end of January several problems occurred all together:
    1. The speakers stopped working completely they just give an itching sound.
    2. The track pad 2 buttons are completely unresponsive (not working) and the same 2 buttons on the keyboard - when I turn the trackpad off completely the keyboard buttons work.
    3. 2 days ago computer completely went off and it is not starting at all. Power button lights on (green) than a flash turns on and immediately off and nothing happens besides the power button light .
I contacted Authorized Warranty Service Provider again some days ago but unfortunately they give me the following answer: They have a limit for service from Lenovo 1 times per computer which means they can order only 1 part replacement a month and as last keyboard replacement they made was on 12th of February 2012 I have to wait.
I'm really confused of the Lenovo quality and service ATM paid over 2,000 USD in a machine that had no sound and track pad for the last 2-3 weeks and now the computer is completely off and I can not even use it.
I used to be a Lenovo/IBM customer for quite a long time not only for my personal use but also for business and I never had problem with Lenovo products before or support. 'm Honestly tired of this computer and situation in general and instead of changing every item(Listed above) and wait 3 months till my Laptop is fully working is just nonsense and also to be an owner of a high priced brick with almost all parts changed under a guarantee is also not pleasant . I'm sort of stuck on what to do and I ask some solution for me is there any way to change the computer to new/refurbished or get my money back?
Moderator edit by bananaman: Masked serial number to prevent misuse.

I have had similar problems, and would recommend the following:
You probably wont get a resolution from the forums, only sympathy (which can help!).
Keep calling anyone you can find to do with Lenovo warranty about the issue utill you get a decent response. I was calling every day for 2 months.  The process was so painful, I now live with the non-critical problems rather than deal with them.
Next time consider Dell.  Their 3ry warranties have been outstanding - shipping parts to me anywhere in Eurpe within 48 hours, or collecting from my office and returning fixed 2 hours later, even in Gibraltar.

  • Clock problem and shutdown problem! Are they related?

Having a problem with my Dual 2 GHz Power Mac G5
A few days ago I noticed that my clock was not showing in the menu bar in the upper right corner of my desktop.
I went into System Preferences and went to Date & Time. Under the clock tab “Show Date and Time in Menu Bar” the box was not checked off. I checked it off and went to the “Date and Time” tab. The date and time was correct. I then checked the box “Click the lock to prevent further changes” to lock it. The date and time did not show up in the menu bar. I then went back to the tab “Show Date and Time in Menu Bar” and the box I checked was not checked off even thought the lock was still locked.
I then moved my cursor up to the menu bar in the upper right corner to see what would happen and the spinning beach ball started up but only for the original icons such as Bluetooth, Mobile Me (which I do not use), Time Machine, Spaces (doesn’t indicated the number when I switch Spaces, etc. The icons Norton Anti Virus and Tech Tool Pro in the menu bar are okay.
Also, when I attempt to shut down my computer the system clears the icons from my desktop except for a picture I have on my desktop and I get a gray wheel spinning and the system just hangs until I press and hold the on/off switch. I don’t know if the clock and shutdown problems are related.
The only new software I loaded recently was Skype with Logitech WebCam for the Mac and Quicken 2007 (Had a problem with Quicken 2006). They both are working okay.
And ideas on why I cannot get my clock to show up and my computer to shutdown?

You may have to consider a new post in the Hardware forum area for the computer
model and build/year; if there is a possibility of some basis the matter could be in
the machine and not the software running within it.
Your last two/three posts are in the Leopard 10.5(.8) forum area and do indicate
some kind of problem where troubleshooting the computer to discover if the matter
at hand would be either hardware or software based, may be the way to go.
The link to the 10.6 Snow Leopard forum won't be of help if your computer is a
PPC-based G5 tower, or other older pre-Intel configuration. And I remember
your earlier questions about the iMac G4 and some other issues in the past.
You may ask the moderators to put your post in a new thread of its own, in the
Leopard 10.5 area; so as to not 'piggy-back' another topic; even though some
of the odd issues you've had seem similar to this OP's topic line and appear to
    be in the same general series of hardware. {The question here seems valid.}
The routine suggestions to check, test, verify, and perhaps repair or replace
the system; save a bootable clone to suitable external standalone device if
testing a suspect computer's viability is recommended; and the basics if not
already tried to help isolate the issue(s) as you've posted elsewhere, may be
of some help to try and do; so in that matter, a new thread of your own is best
for your own directed feedback. Since this kind of advice applies to most any
situation, including troubleshooting what may be hardware or software, I'm
adding my two and three-tenths cents worth here.
Your original included Apple Hardware Test may be of some help, in the process
of elimination; but is not conclusive, so other methods would be also suggested.
Some ideas appear to cover the same ground. However, system corruption or
disc failure can also manifest itself in odd ways & affect things indirectly for a time.

So, at the risk of inadvertently alienating the OP, I am posting this as
a general help to following readers at some later time; and it may not
be too simple for a refresh course.
Some software issues can be resolved by repairing disk permissions,
and re-applying the last OS X update Combo file over the same one
already in the system; or if not up-to-date already, check & repair all
the general items and then apply the last Combo update.
A too-full hard disk drive can compromise the system integrity, so that
is a matter of course to keep up on what resources exist and remain
for the OS X to function correctly and for apps to multi-task together.
    However that works out...
    Good luck & happy computing!

  • Can't access some websites and speed problem

    Hi guys,
I hope to find some help here please as I am desperate!
It has been a week now that I am having problems with my broadband, suddenly I can't access some italian's websites (which I was able to access before). The browser tries to load up the page but nothing happens (it doesn't even give me an error). I tried those website on both my laptops (one windows and one mac) and on 3 different browsers but I have the same problem.
I even tried to use Google DNS on my mac but that didn't solve the problem, I have already tried to reset my BT home hub but again that didn't help.
    Any ideas?
The other thing is that my broadband speed is really strange, because before it used to be very fast during the day (500-600 kb/s download) and really slow during peak-hours (which I know is normal). But for the past month it has been really slow (70kb/s download) even during the day, it has some brief moments when it's slightly faster but not as fast as before. Any suggestions on what would be the problem or what I can try?
I will really appreciate your help.
    Thank you all

  • T61 - Wireless non-connectivity following Wireless Lan update

T61 Type 7658 Lenovo installed 11a/b/g/n Mini-PCI Express adapter wireless modem has virtually ceased working since the latest update around January 2. Even with the system sitting six inches from the router no connection is possible.
Any suggestions or ideas as nothing else has changed in the way or program updates or additions.

  • Connection drops and other problems

I've given up with getting any sense from the Indian call centres so hoping for some enlightenment here!
I've had the unlimited total broadband package since April 2010 and have had trouble-free usage right up to about a month ago. Now the service is just awful and I'm getting the following problems:
Broadband connection drops sporadically. Some days it'll be fine and stable, but others it's flakey - for instance it's dropped 3 times today already. Sometimes I'll get an orange light on the BT hub, but at other times it's showing all blue, although the connection has gone. Sometimes resetting the hub fixes it for awhile and sometimes it doesn't and connection comes back all on its own. Today I've had to reset the hub twice already!
At times I'll have a connection, but only to certain types of traffic. For instance I find that I can quite often do peer-to-peer stuff such as instant message, but all web browsing times out.
Speeds bounce around all over the place. I'm in a rural area so speeds have never been stellar, but at times it'll suddenly start crawling and can take 10-15 seconds to load a simple page like google.co.uk
The biggest issue I have is that my local exchange has BT wholesale as the sole provider, so even if I move ISPs it'll still be the same service, but I'll just have a middle man to deal with. It's particularly frustrating as I work from home and my office is hundreds of miles away so I absolutely rely on a good broadband connection for my living!
Does anyone have any ideas on what these issues could be?  Much thanks in advance.

  • Connecting 9330 and DM-- problems on Win7 64

    Hi all,
I've been looking for answers with little luck. Just moved to a BB Curve 9330 OS 6 and had no problems getting service started and phone/wifi seems to work as expected. I could not, however, get the device to connect to my computer and talk to the desktop manager, newest version, even though it could see my old bb 8330. I try to manually update the drivers, pointing to the driver file in the x86/common files/research in motion/usb drivers/rimusbnt.inf and it tries to install but comes up with a device can't start (error 10) code.
Funny thing is that I can reboot with the phone tethered and it gets recognized on boot, but as the process progresses the OS drops it. I can also start a virtual session using a 32-bit linux instance and map the phone just fine using vmware drivers.
It seems that it must be a problem with the win7 64-bit drivers as I ended up going to my local phone store to get them to connect to the phone using an XP system.  I am using a Lenovo win7 home premium 64-bit.
    Thanks for the help!

  • Can't remove Access Connections and ThinkVantage Toolbox icons from taskbar

I've just re-installed from my Lenovo system back-up disks.
The Lenovo Power Controls icon on the taskbar was easy enough to remove. There was a checkbox under Options.
The Access Controls options show a checkbox to remove that icon as well, but the entire screen is grayed out (inactive). I changed to my admin account and unchecked all the boxes (the screen even says it will affect all users). I also went into the Global settings and unchecked the box there as well (not sure why it's in two places). I rebooted. The icon is still in my non-admin account, although it is gone from the admin account.
On the admin account, all the boxes are unchecked. On the non-admin account, the "Show Accees Connections icon on taskbar" is still checked, but still grayed out. Not sure how to proceed. Definitely do not want this big, ugly icon on my taskbar.
Also, the ThinkVantage Toolbox icon suddenly appeared on this install (wasn't there before, haven't ever seen it). This one doesn't even have an options section with a checkbox to remove it from the taskbar. It also never showed up in the admin account from day one, only in the non-admin account.
Any information on removing these two icons from the taskbar would be greatly appreciated.

As far as the Lenovo Thinkvantage Toolbox icon, this is probably PC-Doctor.
Launch PC-Doctor.  Click the settings button.  You can then uncheck the show icon in taskbar item.
