ThinkPad Yoga 15 won't charge while closed/in sleep mode

Hello, i recently purchased a thinkpad yoga 15 laptop with i7, 8gb ram, geforce gpu, 256gb SSD, Windows 8.1 Pro. My question is: how can I make it charge while in sleep mode? also, downloads stop in sleep mode (ie Steam) This is very inconvenient as the laptop will apparently only charge while totally on and open. Naturally, I don't want to leave my laptop on and open to anyone's use in my room, I want to keep it locked via sleep mode. I want it to be charged when I get back. To sum up, I want to a) charge laptop while it's in sleep mode, and b) don't stop downloads while in sleep mode. Thank you this is my first post on lenovo forums :]

It is not jailbroken or anything at all, just a normal iPhone 4

  • New MBP battery won't charge unless closed

I've had my 17' MBP for 3 months and I'm having more issues with it than my last 2 macbooks combined. My problem now is that the battery won't charge unless the laptop is closed, and yes, I use only Apple authentic chargers. I first thought it was a bad charger, so I ordered a new one from Apple and it still won't charge while I"m using it. Any ideas on what to do? Or why this would happen. I'm also having problems with trying to restart it after software updates, it tells me that Mail won't close so I can't restart, even when I quit mail prior to initiating the restart.
I have a feeling I'll get my money's worth out of Apple care this time around and I like the removable/replaceable battery on the older laptops, I wish they wouldn't have changed that.
    Thanks!
    Kara

Went over my laptop with an Apple Genius today and did two things, one or both of which contributed to resolving this issue.  The first thing was actually shutting the computer down and restarting it.  I typically don't do that for weeks or months at a time and this can help some of the internal power settings establish a baseline.
The 2nd thing, which I think had the most impact, was to take the 980+ items on my desktop and move them into a single folder on my desktop.  Each file icon on your desktop in OS X gets drawn using the same procedure as the one that renders an open Finder window. So each desktop icon is a separate object that gets managed, rendered and displayed by your graphics card and that means my graphics card was doing the work it would take to display over 1000 different Finder windows. That work is shouldered largely by the GPU, so it does not show up as CPU core activity in the Activity Monitor graphical plots, but it does seem to show up as part of the percentage of Finder CPU time that is reported in the list of running processes in Activity Monitor. That Finder CPU percentage was spiking a lot, as different events triggered a refresh of my desktop. I think it was this extreme overtasking of the GPU that was driving my laptop's power needs beyond what the adapter could supply.  This would explain the correlation some people see with this problem and watching video, as well as a strange 25 second hang that I would see in the Finder after using Quick Look.  This would also explain why people report having this problem recur after having their entire laptop or power adapter replaced. This is an easy fix to try, at least. YMMV.

  • IPod touch won't charge while installed in vehicle through direct interface

    Hello,
This just began happening about two weeks ago. The touch won't charge while installed in the car directly through the interface. I have tried three different set-ups so I know it is not the iPod cable or stereo. It seems to charge and hold said charge fine through wall plug or CP but while in the car it only seems to charge enough to continue playing and then when the car is off, it acts as though it is no longer connected and dies so when I start the car the next time, I have to wait for the unit to charge enough to play...
Oh and it is a 1st gen 8gb touch.
Is this the battery or a hardware issue with the touch itself?
    Thanks for any help...
    Nick

I have the same problem with my Audi and started when I installed the 3.0 update. Besides I can't use the Hi Fi Apple device, which I bought 3 years ago. I'm sure the update didn't take in considerations old interfaces and the HiFi.

  • TS3274 iPad won't charge while plugged into computer

My iPad won't charge while plugged into computer

The quickest way (and really the only way) to charge your iPad is with the included 10W USB Power Adapter. iPad will also charge, although more slowly, when attached to a computer with a high-power USB port (many recent Mac computers) or with an iPhone Power Adapter (5W). When attached to a computer via a standard USB port (most PCs or older Mac computers) iPad will charge very slowly (but iPad indicates not charging). Make sure your computer is on while charging iPad via USB. If iPad is connected to a computer that’s turned off or is in sleep or standby mode, the iPad battery will continue to drain.
Apple recommends that once a month you let the iPad fully discharge & then recharge to 100%.
How to Calibrate Your Mac, iPhone, or iPad Battery
    http://www.macblend.com/how-to-calibrate-your-mac-iphone-or-ipad-battery/
At this link http://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/galaxy-tab-android-tablet,3014-11.html , tests show that the iPad 2 battery (25 watt-hours) will charge to 90% in 3 hours 1 minute. It will charge to 100% in 4 hours 2 minutes. The new iPad has a larger capacity battery (42 watt-hours), so using the 10W charger will obviously take longer. If you are using your iPad while charging, it will take even longer. It's best to turn your new iPad OFF and charge over night. • My iphone4s won't charge while being plugged into any charger/ iPod dock

My iphone4s won't charge while being plugged into any charger/ iPod dock

If the iPhone won't charge when connected to the power adaptor that was included with the iPhone, the same when connected to your computer, and no change when connected to any charger, do you have access to another cable to rule out a problem with the cable being used?
If no change with a known good cable, there is a hardware problem with the iPhone.
Call AppleCare or make an appointment at an Apple Store if there is one nearby.

  • The battery won't charge while plugged in.

I have a ten-year-old iPod video 30g whose battery died several days ago. I bought a new battery and changed it into my old thing. However it won't charge while plugged in. I mean, actually the charging battery sign will show but it's still empty when unplugged. Now the battery has run out and while I plugged it in it will show "please wait, very low battery". But it just won't get started since no eletricity is being transferred.
    Please help. Thanks!

Does your iPod appear in iTunes or on your computer as external storage, if you connect it now with no battery inside.  I know older iPods (4th gen and earlier) function normally as an iPod without a battery connected, as long as it is connected to power with the docking cable.  Not sure about the 5th gen iPod.
If it you can get it recognized by the computer, you can off-load the songs.  iTunes syncing is generally in one direction only, from the computer's iTunes library to iPod.  So you cannot use iTunes to transfer song files from iPod to computer (except for songs purchased from the iTunes Store).  However, there are third-party methods and utilities that can transfer from iPod to computer.  If you do an Internet search on something like "ipod transfer," you should get some links.  (The CNET article seems to be popular.)
I guess you do not have the original photos?  When photos are synced by iTunes to the iPod, iTunes optimizes the photos to fit the iPod's small screen and take up less space on the iPod, and the photos are stored in a single database file (instead of separate image files).  The only easy way to recover photos from an iPod is IF (when you synced the photos), you had a setting enabled on the iPod's Photos screen iTunes (where you set up syncing for photos).  The setting is to "include full-resolution photos when syncing" (that may not be the exact wording).  If that setting was enabled, iTunes puts a full-resolution copy of the image files on the iPod, in a folder called Photos, which you can access (using Windows Explorer or Finder on a Mac) by turning ON the Enable disk use setting.
Otherwise, the photos on the iPod are low-res versions of the original photos, and they are not directly accessible on the iPod.  There may be third-party utilities that can access the photos on the iPod, and save them off on your computer's drive.

  • HT201401 My phone won't lock or go into sleep mode when answering calls

My phone won't lock or go into sleep mode when making or receiving calls. Consequently I keep activating the mute or loud speaker buttons with my cheek. Can anyone help please??

That is a Proximity Sensor Problem, which is located above the earpiece speaker. Do you have a new screen protector or iPhone Case which could interfer with this?
    Reset iPhone, Restore iPhone.
If you have Warranty or AppleCare Coverage make Genius Reservation and take iPhone to Apple for resolution.

  • Thinkpad Yoga won't power up anymore

I was using my Thinkpad Yoga today (Quicken) and then suddenly, the screen went blank, the fan started making noise, and that was it. Can't power it up or down.
I've had it 3 months. I was watching 24 on it last night. Since the battery is inaccessible, there was no way to turn it off. I called Microsoft Tech Support and they were useless I took it into the Aventura Mall Microsoft Store but they said they can't fix it they can only send it out which will take weeks.
I have the Complete Care plan, mind you.
I tried unscrewing the bottom myself. I still couldn't get it off, but the fan noise at stopped. I tried hooking up to power and turning it on, but it still won't turn on.
Help please, other than taking it to Microsoft Store who said it will take weeks to repair.

Good news. I went back to the Microsoft Store and met with someone different. He looked at my computer and said since it had only been 3 months, he'd swap it out with a new one, swap out my hard disc, and restart my Complete Care warranty. So that was great! He did it right in front of me. I told him the other guy the other day said they couldn't do that and he said he'd have a talk with him. They don't know what caused the other problem, but said it seemed related to it not holding a charge.
Also, he said he was able to remove the warped screw because he had another, slightly bigger, screwdriver.

  • My Iphone 5 won't charge while turned on.

My iphone 5 won't charge at all while turned on. I have to turn off my phone in order to charge it. I can't really use my phone now because of the iPhone 5 battery life. I need help!

You are going to have t take that to the apple store . Make a Genius Bar appointment and they will help you. Most likely they will give you a new phone. Hope this helps

  • ThinkPad Yoga won't connect to external display

I just received a ThinkPad Yoga and have not been able to get output to external display.
I am using mini hdmi to display port.
Lenovo tech support was completely useless.
Does anyone have experience with this issue?
    Thanks

First, try resetting the parameter RAM:
Hold down keys CMD-Option-p-r on startup until you hear the second chime.

  • W540 Won't Charge While Running

My W540 recently became unable to charge while the laptop is running.  When the laptop is off, the battery will charge completely.  As soon as Windows (or Linux) boots, the charge terminates and the computer starts running off battery power.  The computer will boot without the battery installed, but the computer turns off as soon as either operating system is booted (a few seconds after the desktop appears). I have tried a different power adapter without success (both adapters are Lenovo 170W supplies) and also put a different battery in (also genunie Lenovo battery) but the issue still remained. Anyone have any suggestions?  The laptop is still under warranty, could it be the charging circuit on the motherboard?  Will I have to ship the laptop back to Lenovo for repair?  I am out at sea and might have to wait a while to get back into port to be able to ship the unit back to Lenovo, so I would like to investigate other options. Thanks for your help, Nathan

Hi All,  I've got a new W540 that is getting the same issue. When powered, the Power Manager says that is charging but the battery still goes down until it shuts down completely. If I use it with its own docking station it charges as expected. I'm using a 170w adapter in both cases and it is wi-fi connected (not in airplane power plan issue) Any suggestions ? Thanks !!

  • Charging peripherals while iBook in Sleep Mode or Shut Down (Hot USB Ports)

I would like to be able to charge my iPhone or iPhone while connected to the iBook. However I would prefer the charging method to work in "Sleep Mode" or when the computer is shut down, still plugged into a wall outlet. Has anyone had any success with finding an after-market provider or a solution to get "Hot USB" ports installed on the iBook G4's? I heard in passing this feature would be available soon on the newer Apple notebooks but have yet to see it.

This isn't something I'd noticed before, but my goodness, you're right!
I'm certain I was able to charge my third gen iPod while it was plugged into my sleeping iBook, as long as the iBook was also connected to an outlet.
My MacBook, while sleeping, will charge a device regardless of if it's connected to the outlet or not.
What OS is your iBook running? Maybe that's a clue to solving this issue.

  • ThinkPad S230u won't wake up after IRST sleep since BIOS update

I am using S230u (i7 CPU, 8GB RAM, 500GB HDD+24GB SSD) with Windows 8 x64 for half a year now and so far everything has worked just fine.
I have IRST enabled and when I put it in sleep mode, it automatically saves the state to SSD after an hour. That has worked great so far - I can put it to sleep for short periods and get it up instantly and if I put it to sleep for longer it will save to SSD and not use battery - when I wake it up, it flashes the red LED for a while and system comes back online.
However, this Friday I installed BIOS update - updated from 1.57.1.57 to 1.61.1.61 (at least according to System Update history).
Since Friday when I try to wake it up it does not work if the sleep is longer than an hour (or so) and the state was stored to SSD. The red led keeps flashing, but nothing happens - after around 1-2 minutes the system reboots and Windows loads again.
I want to downgrade the BIOS and doublecheck that this is the issue - perhaps it is some other Windows or Lenovo patch, so I want to be sure.
I have already located the BIOS drivers downloads (http://support.lenovo.com/en_US/downloads/detail.page?DocID=DS032000) and am wondering if downgrading BIOS to check if this is the issue can break anything with my laptop?
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

We are working on the BIOS defect that causes this failure.  I'm very sorry for this inconvenience.
While downgrading the BIOS is a possible work-around, my advice is to simply disable the 30-Day standby feature in Lenovo Settings, until the new BIOS to fix this issue is released.

  • Yoga 2 Pro Draining Battery Fast in Sleep Mode

I have a new Yoga 2 Pro with i7 processor. It works great and normal battery life is about 4-5 hours. But with a fully charged battery, i can close the lid at night triggering sleep mode, and wake up to an almost dead battery.
Why is this happening? It's really dissapointing and I'm going to return it if I can't find a fix. I'm on the latest BIOS with all current updates. I am not using Hibernate mode.
Closing the lid shoud not cause battery to continue to drain at normal usage rates.
I'm hoping it's the WINDOWS 8 software but I've tried all the settings I can find.

the OP said battery was draining overnight because y2p was not going into sleep mode. then op changed some settings and, as i understand it, now his y2p does not drain battery overnight because he pushes power button and it goes into hibernate mode before closing lid.
I would like to raise the issue of the difference between hibernate and sleep mode. I too find that if i put my y2p (and my mbp-bootcamp) into hibernate mode then my battery does not drain overnight. however, both my laptops drain the battery overnight in sleep mode... anyone have clear understanding of this? i've look at many articles on the web, but haven't found any that specifically indicate how fast sleep mode should drain batteries. I think my gf's mba-OSx also drains overnight in sleep mode and OSx doesn't even have a hibernate option (correct me if i'm wrong)...

Every time im away from my laptop for a long enough time for it to go into sleep mode i can't get it to come out of sleep mode.
