ThinkVantage Recovery to Inital Situation

If I use the ThinkVantage Rescue and Recovery and  recover my X200 to the initial status as it leaves the factory, can I recover the system to a backup? I have a bakup made after I installed my applications and some other data.
My backup is in an external USB hard driver.
Thanks.

Hi,
yes, you can do that if the backup is still on the USB HDD.
Check, whether the USB HDD is bootable and then boot from that HDD and do the restore.
Basically it's not realy needed to boot directly from the HDD. Just press F11 by boot and start into the RnR PDA <Pre Desktop Area> and do the restore using the backup that is on the HDD.
Let me know, if that is what you are looking for.

    Hi Eric,
From your description, I would like to clarify the following things:
    1. Before performing the restore process, we need to dismount the Exchange databases that we want to restore. If the database is still mounted, the restore process will fail. If the restore process doesn't succeed, Restore.env won't be generated.
    2. It is because the log files are healthy, you can run Eseutil/r and perform soft recovery.
    3. In your case, you can continue to perform the soft recovery.

    Hi @RafayZia
Welcome to the HP Support Forums!
I understand you are looking for instructions on how to use the recovery partition or the recovery disks you have made. I am happy to assist.
I would not recommend removing the recovery partition if you can avoid it. It is another safety net for you, in case those disks prove to be defective, or get damaged.
Anyway, in answer to your original question, the following pages show the methods of performing a system recovery, in different situations, and the second one is to help when problems occur.

  • Recovery Console BSOD

I have a Thinkpad R61 with the factory installed XP Pro SP1. I added a Logical partition after the Thinkpad Service partition. I installed the  Microsoft Recovery Console and then SP3 for XP. If I try to boot into the XP Recovery Console I get a BSOD. I can boot into ThinkVantage Recovery with the "Blue Button" without a problem. Is there a conflict between the Microsoft Recovery Console and the ThinkVantage Service Partition or is this a Microsoft problem? The "Blue Button" is probably a better option for disaster recovery anyway, but I'm wondering why the MS Recovery Console isn't working. Any suggestions?

  • Wanted recover cd set T60 model 1953

Hello, I have boiught recently a T60 that came with windows XP pro. The notebook was only with three thinkvantage programs, Rescue & recovery was not there so I went to IBM website and downloaded v4.0 and installed on windows xp pro. All went well. I then as i wanted to put the original factory OS wanted also to create the cd set to recover the originalk configuration. I then run Recovery & rescu program and created one only cd... no more were created. After that the system reboot and asked me to put that cd on the notebook which i did and asked me if i wanted a full factory os restore and I accepted.
I thought the process was going to run from the hidden partition i think is located on "X:" but now first asks me to put the supplementary disc, I say i dont have it and ask me to put the disc1  which i also dont have it. Everytime now I reboot the notebook this happens always asking me for these cds....
    What do I do now???
I think i need the cd set to complete the instalation otherwise how can i run from the hidden partition?
This is stupid, why IBM just dont give the cds to buyers like any other notebook company. why creating this hidden partition that just confuse consumers that are not nerds or hitech people.. this is stupidity!!!
I f someone have the cd set please pelase can copy then and send them to me. I really need them. Also IBM and lenovo are such a ureacratic company that they even dont give the cds or any help on this.
If i knew this before i never had choosen IBM notebook... how stupid this is.
    Boto

    Hi bototucuxi,
    Welcome to the Lenovo forum.
Sorry that you ran into a situation where you need the recovery discs but don't have them. Lenovo not supplying them is not stupid, but is (I'm sure) a cost-saving measure. Needless to say, burning those recovery CDs is the first thing you should do when you get a new ThinkPad!
But to get back to your case: I'd recommend calling Lenovo service and explaining your situation. If you ask nicely and get lucky you might get them to send you the discs for free, but probably they will cost you $50 or so. A pain, but less expensive and far easier than installing from generic OS CDs, as all the ThinkPad drivers are included. The recovery CDs will also set up the ThinkVantage recovery function.
    Best regards,

  • Lenovo System Update and Lenovo Support RSS Feed (X60)

Okay. I got Lenovo System Update (version 5, for Windows 7) and it did not offer me any Critical updates. Only Recommended and Optional ones. If it ain't broke, don't fix it, so I don't want to install Recommended and Optional updates, only the Critical ones if there is any.
On the other hand I also have the Lenovo Support RSS Feed. But they bring me to dead links. For my X60 the two drivers in my RSS Feed are
ThinkVantage Access Connections patch for Access Connections Version 5.95 for Windows 7 (32-bit, 64-...
    Patch module for Power Manager for Windows 7 (32-bit, 64-bit), Vista (32-bit, 64-bit) - ThinkPad -
    Both are totally dead links.
The tricky part is that there is absolutely no correlation between the two: totally different drivers in the System Update and the RSS Feed.

  • Two LOVs in same UIX page based on the same table

    Hi group,
Recently I ran into a problem with a UIX page that has two LOVs based on the same database table. In Emp and Job terminology, here's what I tried to do.
Suppose we have use the Employees and Jobs tables from the HR scheme with one small modification. Add a column called PREFERRED_JOB_ID of type VARCHAR2(10) which is exactly the same as JOB_ID. Hypothetically speaking, this column will be used to allow Employees to select their preferred job in case they want to change their jobs.
Next, create business components in JDeveloper based on the Employees and Jobs table. In order to be able to generate the LOVs for Job and PreferredJob create two ViewObjects, one called JobsLookupView and one called PreferredJobsLookupView. These both need to be based upon the same Jobs EntityObject. Also include the Jobs EntityObject twice in the EmployeesView ViewObject and give one the alias PreferredJobs. Include the JobTitle attributes of Jobs and PreferredJobs in EmployeesView so they can contain the JobTitles selected in our future LOVs.
Next create a ViewController project if it's not already there and enable JHeadstart on it. Create an Application Structure File and create the lookups for the two LOVs. When I run the application I see this happening:
When I click the flashlight icon next to the PreferredJob LOV and select a job, the PreferredJob field is selected in the UIX page but no job title appears. When I next first select the Job LOV and select a new job and then select the PreferredJob LOV again and select a different job, the job that was selected in the Job LOV is now also entered in the PreferredJob field. When I make sure the PreferredJob field isn't required (remove the required="yes" property on the messageLovInput entry for PreferredJobTitle and remove the PreferredJobTitle field from the addRequiredRowItems list in the UIX page) I can save the changes I made in the Employees.uix page. The same JobId is stored in the database for Job and PreferredJob.
This behaviour is probably due to cacheing issues because both LOVs and the EmployeesView ViewObject use one EntityObject for four values in three ViewObjects.
So I then modified my model a bit. I created a new EntityObject called PreferredJobs based on the JOBS table. I modified the EmployeesView ViewObject to use this EntityObject for the PreferredJobTitle attribute and modified the PreferredJobsLookupView to use this EntityObject.
I needed to modify a few things as well in the Application Structure File (which were prompts and whether or not the attribute should be visible in a table) and after regenerating I made sure the PreferredJob attribute isn't required in the UIX page. When I then run the application again, I never see the JobTitle I select in any LOV allthough the PreferredJob field is selected when I select a Job in the PreferredJob LOV. The correct JobId now is stored in the database though.
Has anyone ever encoutered this behaviour? Would anyone know how to get two LOVs based on the same table in one UIX page?
    Thanks in advance,
    Wouter van Reeven

OK I figured it out. When I added the second Lookup ViewObject (PreferredJobs) no additional Association was created. Therefore, ADF BC wasn't able to figure out which field to update. When I added the Association between the PreferredJobs Lookup ViewObject and the Employees ViewObject everything started working ok.
I then recreated my inital situation: one EntityObject for Jobs and one for Employees, now with two Associations between them. After modifying the Employees ViewObject and making sure the Jobs EntityObject was referred twice and via the corresponding Association, everything started working ok.

  • Calendar items get deleted after computer restart

Hi, I keep having this problem of my calendar items getting deleted/cleared after I restart my computer. Basically, I sync my handheld on two computers, one is work PC and the other my home PC. Changes are done on both PCs. I modify items on my work PC then sync with the handheld. When I get home, mostly during weekends, I also sync my handheld with my home PC. No modifications are done on the handheld. These past few days, I just noticed my calendar items in the Palm Desktop that the items I added/modified a day ago is no longer there. I have already lost a couple of appointments because of this. Please help.

With Palm desktop 6.2 there is an issue with losing data but it is mostly seen on Vista systems. This issue has been escalated to Palm Engineering.
When you shutdown your PC, do you close Palm desktop or leave it open? We have seen leaving Palm desktop open, when the PC is shut down, to cause data loss. Another cause of data loss can happen by having Palm desktop open when a Windows update occurs. If you are not using Palm desktop, close it.
Here is a procedure for recovering the data.
You can recover the data from your user folder provided you have only sync'ed once with the PC when you discovered the data missing. When you sync to the PC there are files created for each PIM category in your user folder. For Example; datebook.dat or datebook (Depending on the version of Palm Desktop) and datebook.bak. Using Palm Desktop version 6.2 the file names are .mdb and mdb.bak. For 6.2, the files are located in the username folder in PalmOSdesktop in my documents.
The files are named .dat and .bak. When you sync, the current data is stored in .dat. The next time you sync the data in the .dat file is copied to the .bak file. You can rename the .dat to .old. then rename the .bak to .dat. If the data in the .bak file is intact, it will now be in Palm desktop when you reopen Palm desktop. I have included a link to show you how to find the userfolder on the PC.
    http://www.palm.com/cgi-bin/cso_kbURL.cgi?ID=26674
    Here is another link regarding data loss;
    http://www.palm.com/cgi-bin/cso_kbURL.cgi?ID=39503
The best way to backup your data is to use the export feature in Palm Desktop. Make a new folder on the PC desktop named Palm Desktop Backup data. Next, select the category you want to export. You will get a window that asks where you want to save the file, save in the folder created on the desktop. There is a button that allows you to select currently selected record or all, select all. If you don't select all, then only the record highlighted is exported. You will then need to name the file for export, I suggest the name of the category, eg: datebook (With current date). Do this for all critical data in each category. With the data exported to the folder on the PC desktop, you can save this data to a flash drive, external hard drive or a CD-RW. With this method you will have your data in a seperate place than Palm desktop and the device. If you "Lose" data again, you can import the data back into palm desktop.
Make sure that when you make changes in palm desktop or the device to export the data to the folder created for the backup.
    Here is a link for other options for backing up your data;
    http://www.palm.com/cgi-bin/cso_kbURL.cgi?ID=28751
Here is a procedure for backing up your data for disaster recovery, like this situation.
The best way to preserve your data is to export the data in each category in Palm Desktop to a seperate folder on your PC.
Create a new folder on your PC somewhere that is convenient. Name it something like Palm Desktop Data. Click on the link below and follow the instructions on that page for the export procedure.
    http://www.palm.com/cgi-bin/cso_kbURL.cgi?ID=28734
Make sure you select all for the range in the export window.
With the data saved in the folder you created, make a copy of that folder and save to a flash drive, cd-rw or external hard drive.
Anytime you make a change in Palm Desktop, export the data that was changed to that folder and save again to the external media.
With this process you can always import the data back into Palm Desktop anytime you have a problem with the data in Palm Desktop or if your computer/hard drive/device crashes.

  • App.server load balancing for SAP System with 1 PS

    Hi,
In SAP CPS 7.0 (Build M26.12) I have a SAP system with Central Instance + 10 App.servers, but all instances are managed by 1 ProcessServer.
After activating the "App.server load balancing" setting in SAP system definition the application servers are becoming visible in CPS with their load factors (number of BGD wp's on app.servers) and load numbers (number of active jobs on app.servers).
This is so far fine, but the additional functionality is not working as I would expect, I have issues with 2 functionalities:
    1. Based on documentation after activating also the XAL connection the CPS should submit the job on app.server with best performance based on XAL monitoring data filling the TARGET_SERVER parameter.
This functionality is not working for me at all
    2. A useful functionality after activating the "App.server load balancing" setting is that the ProcessServer is going to "Overloaded" status when all BGD wp's of SAP system are occupied, thus restricting submitting new jobs during overload situation. But I had an issue also with this functionality, after SAP system recovery from overload situation, the CPS still remained in Overload status (so no new jobs were submitted).
As a workaround I had increased the treshold values for loads on all app.servers for this SAP system, what was fine for several days, but after a while I believe this was a reason of unexpected performance issues in CPS, therefore I have deactivated the 'App.server load balancing" setting at all for this ProcessServer.
I would appreciate your feedbacks with this functionality.
    Thanks and Regards,
    Ernest Liczki

    Hi Preetish,
This connect string option is to loadbalance RFC connections. These are balanced upon login, once you are connected to a particular application server (AS) you stay on that server until you reconnect.
Since CPS uses multiple RFC connections, this will result in the connections being distributed over the available AS resources which is fine as long as they are generally evenly loaded. If you have certain AS hosts that are continuosly more loaded than the rest, then you probably don't want the CPS RFC connections to end up on these servers.
The original question is about loadbalancing of batch jobs over the available AS resources, and this is done independent of the RFC connection load balancing. Even if all CPS RFC connections are pinned to the DB/CI host, you can still loadbalance jobs over the available SAP AS hosts, either by using SAPs builtin balancing, or the CPS algorithm by activating the checkbox as indicated in the first entry in this thread.
Finally, to reply to Ernest's question: I believe there are some fixes on the app load balancing in the latest release, M26.17 should be available on the SWDC now.
    Regards,
    Anton.

  • Use of transactions

    Hi,
What is the recommended way to use transactions in the following system:
    One transaction-enabled-environment, with several DBs.
A thread can handle one or more DBs, one DB is not handled by more than one thread.
Currently we have one transaction per DB that cause us lock issues which we are trying to resolve.
For instance holding an open transaction and trying to get another one during election (where the environment is locked).
Is it right to say that the best way to use transactions is to hold one each time for all DBs within environment?
Does multithread like described above can harm that?
Can nested transactions be a solution approach here? If so how?
    please advice.

    Hi,
In this scenario it seems that a single database handle will not be accessed by more than one thread at a time. In other words, one thread will only perform operations on certain databases, and those databases will only be accessed and modified by this thread.
The way transactions should access the databases, in what order, what particular operations you should perform, whether you should only access a single database, depends on the application needs. For example, if certain operations that should be part of the same set of changes, and which should be performed atomically, hence within a transaction, imply changes to multiple databases, then it is clear that one transaction cannot solely operate on a single database.
For instance holding an open transaction and trying to get another one during election (where the environment is locked). This indicates that you are using HA / Replication. Most likely Replication Manager (repmgr) in BDB. During an election, actually after an election is completed, if the role needs to be changed (master -> client, client -> master), repmgr will lock-out the environment. Repmgr also locks-out the environment when there is a a major system change (recovery, internal init or role change). When locking-out the environment BDB will wait for existing active transactions to complete (completing a transaction means committing or aborting it). While BDB waits for these active transactions to be completed/resolved, new transactions cannot be started (the lockout prevents new transactions and cursors from starting, until all existing active transactions and cursors have been resolved / completed).
This is why you see new transactions waiting. If you are concerned with this waiting, that new transactions cannot be started and have to wait, then you can avoid the waiting by setting the DB_REP_CONF_NOWAIT flag from DbEnv::rep_set_config():
    http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/E17076_02/html/api_reference/CXX/repconfig.html
If you set the DB_REP_CONF_NOWAIT flag, then the DbEnv::txn_begin() call will return with DB_REP_LOCKOUT instead of waiting.
However, you would still need to resolve the existing active transactions. It might be the case that this these transactions are just sitting around, without completing. You need to inspect the application code and see what these transactions are doing.
If they are in-progress, any further BDB API call, like Db::put() or Db::get(), will return DB_LOCK_DEADLOCK so that the application will immediately resolve the txns that are holding everything up. Thus, even long running txns should resolve quickly, on the next API usage hopefully.
Is it right to say that the best way to use transactions is to hold one each time for all DBs within environment?
Does multithread like described above can harm that? This sounds like bad design, specifically because I doubt the operations that the transaction should perform atomically are all affecting all the databases in the environment. Doing things this way certainly is a way of degrading performance.
You should use transactions as before, and work on correctly identifying the places in the application where deadlocks are happening and handle the deadlocks properly.
But again, what operations you enclose in a transaction depends on what changes need to be performed atomically and on what databases.
As reference, you can review the following chapters in the BDB Reference Guide:
    http://docs.oracle.com/cd/E17076_02/html/programmer_reference/transapp.html
    http://docs.oracle.com/cd/E17076_02/html/programmer_reference/lock.html
Can nested transactions be a solution approach here? If so how?Nested / child transactions are explained here:
    http://docs.oracle.com/cd/E17076_02/html/programmer_reference/transapp_nested.html
I do not see how nested transactions would help here. They are useful when there is a need to decompose a large long running txn into smaller pieces, which enclose changes that can be independently (independent of the other changes in the parent txn) aborted if needed. Nested transactions inherit the locks from the parent txn so the locking issues will still exist.
I doubt that you do this, but just mention it. A transaction may only span multiple threads if the access to the txn handle is serialized (the txn handle cannot be used simultaneously in more than one thread at a time).
    Hope this helps
    regards
    Richard

  • Help with bootup problem

When I turned on my ThinkPad x200s this morning it booted to the ThinkVantage recovery. However, it does nothing. For the last 12 hours I have tried restarting and letting it sit for hours - but nothing. Before it reaches ThinkVantage, it goes to Windows 7, then says Windows is loading files. I cannot even get it to start in safe mode. When I called tech support she said it sounded like a hard disk problem. Can anyone help me figure out what is wrong and how to fix it? Do I need a new hard drive?

There should be an option in BIOS (not familiar with X200s so I apologize in advance if this is incorrect) to run the hard drive diagnostics test.
    Start there...
    Good luck.
    Cheers,
    George

  • Datafile Lost but no backup available

    Version:11g
    We are archivelog mode.
We inadvertantly lost a datafile and due to some reasons the RMAN backup is not accesible. But all archived logs are available. Is it possible for me to recover the datafile?

    Hi friend,
We can perform complete recovery in four situations.
    1. System datafile corrupted with recent backup.
    2. non-system datafile corrupted with backup.
    3. non-system datafile corrupted without backup.
    4. Disk corrupted and recreating non system datafile.
    steps
Recovery of a Missing Datafile that has no backups (database is open).
If a non system datafile that was not backed up since the last backup is missing,
recovery can be performed if all archived logs since the creation
    of the missing datafile exist.
Pre requisites: All relevant archived logs.
    1. alter tablespace <tablespace_name> offline immediate;
    2. alter database create datafile '/user/oradata/u01/dbtst/newdata01.dbf';
    3. recover tablespace <tablespace_name>;
    4. alter tablespace <tablespace_name> online;
If the create datafile command needs to be executed to place the datafile on a
location different than the original use:
alter database create datafile '/user/oradata/u01/dbtst/newdata01.dbf' as
    '/user/oradata/u02/dbtst/newdata01.dbf'
