TIFFs import - trouble real time rendering/preview

I have just imported 359 uncompressed TIFFs for a 15 sec animation I rendered from 3D Studio Max. I cannot play a preview of it in the FCP as it just comes up with 'unrendered'
I am running the latest Final Cut Studio on a 17" MBP with 4gb ram.
I am brand new to FCP and had the seller of the MBP install it for me, so may be his settings are not best for this. Any thoughts or advice would be very gratefully accepted.
Mark

Umm, tiff images are not video. they need to be rendered for playback.
Open up your shiny new manuals and read through the sections that relate to "stills cache".
A faster way to work with this is to open up QT Pro, import the images and export a Quicktime movie using the appropriate codec for use in FCP.
Good luck.

  • Experimenting with FCP/ Real time rendering question

Hello, I am preparing to purchase a Mac Pro and spent some time at the local mac affiliate store playing with FCP and motion.
In fcp I took two clips and dropped them in the timeline, adding the 3d cube transition, and some filters to both clips.
I was looking at performance of real time rendering on teh base config of the MP I plan on purchasing.
I then added another clip above these two, intending on dropping the opacity to further push the RTR (real time rendering). This clip overlapped the transition of the two other clips in v1 and v2.
When attempting to play the timeline the viewer window now said "Not Rendered"
    My question is:
Is there a limit to how many tracks can be run under the RTR? Why did I get this message?
My main reason of the move to a Mac Pro is to get away from constantly pre-rendering.
    Thanks everyone in advance!

Sounds like you know what you're doing and what you expect. A factor that has not been mentioned yet, besides RAM, prefs and drive speeds, is your video format.
Also, the new rev of FCP is taking advantage of tons of processing overhead, vastly increasing the amount of stuff you can do in real time. However, real time is largely a preview operation, regardless of the machine or system, unless you are using proprietary codecs, such as Media 100, that might be hardware-assisted. Output is almost always a rendering issue, multiple stacked or processed layers require the creation of new media.
The only way you're going to be able to decide if Macintosh and FCP are right for you is to demo thoroughly and that requires using your own footage.

  • No real time RAM preview with Pr CS6.0.1 Open, Real time RAM preview with Pr Closed

When Premiere is closed I see real time performance on RAM previews (29.97fps), smooth UI interaction with and without Fast Draft enabled.  When Premiere is opened I get poor fps in RAM previews, lagging UI interaction unless Fast Draft is enabled.  Premiere Memory preferences are set to 6GB reserved for other apps, and Optimized rendering is for Memory.  It seams that as soon as Pr takes on any processing AE's performance just dies until Pr is closed.
I've tried clearing caches in AE and in Premiere, restarts, and repair disk permissions,
Included is a realtime screen capture of what i'm experiencing, I open and close premiere twice to illustrate that it's not an isolated occurrence.

  • Final cut and hardwear acceleration (real time Rendering )

    hi all
used final cut pro in vedio editting i search for any solution for accelerat my rendering time ...am tierd coz its take alot time ....i search about hardwear pci card like aja and matrox but i dont sure it work..............
i search also about tuning of the mac os itself but i dont find any things.........
plz help me if any one know ...............

There are no third party hardware solutions to speeding up render times. Not Matrox, or AJA. A better graphics card will make certain effects real time or render faster (the FXPlug ones only). But really, the only thing that speeds up render times are processors. So the only way to speed up render times would be to get a faster machine.

  • Disable auto-scrolling or real-time rendering in CS6

I work at a radio station and volunteers come in to read for a special reader service for the blind. When they record into Audition, the scrolling waveform is a distraction. In AA 3.0 there was a way to keep the screen from scrolling once the cursor went beyond the initial view. I can't figure out how to do that in CS6. The other thing I was thinking was to try and disable the waveform from rendering at all until after the recording was done.
    Thanks!

I see.  If the view is fully zoomed-out, then it will continue to maintain that view as the waveform fills the display and new space is allotted.  If you zoom in a single "notch" it should stop that.
I just tried the trick of exposing the separate Transport panel and closing the Editor panel, which would work if you've already created the empty file to record into.  However, when you begin recording, the panel does open itself.  You can close it again and keep it hidden from view.
You may also want to make this panel very small, or create a "Recording" workspace, where it's sized very small if it's that distracting to the readers.

  • Real-time HDV importing ..& Happy New Year!

    Hi! Happy 2006!
Some time in December (?) I said I'd been to the London Apple Store to try importing HDV - with a Sony FX-1 camcorder - into iMovie HD on a PowerMac, to see if it'd import in "real time" ..instead of importing at half or quarter speed, on my PowerBook and Mac mini, while it converts hi-definition footage into Apple's 'Intermediate Codec' (to make HDV MPEG footage editable).
It couldn't be done in the hour and a half I was there, so an Apple Genius was going to get back to me.
After a bit of complaining and cajoling, a Genius at 'The Studio' in the Store finally got back to me on Jan 3rd. [I'm now back home, so this is my first visit to Discussions for a while!]
As I promised that I'd report back, here's what he said:
"Today I imported HDV 1080i footage into iMovie using the Sony HDR-FX1 Camcorder using a Dual 2.7 G5 Power Mac with 4.5 Gb of Ram and there didn't appear to be any lag, it was realtime. I would recommend having as much memory as possible and having less than 4.5 might mean there is a transcoding lag as iMovie converts the HDC encoded footage using the Apple Intermediate Codec. I do not have any details what the minimum speed processor and memory requirements are to achieve realtime import, however it is hardware dependent.
As another alternative you may consider using Final Cut Pro 5 software. This software uses the HDV Codec Natively and there is therefore no transcoding required. Capture is in realtime, whatever machine you use, so long as it is within the minimum requirements for Final Cut Pro 5. (Please check http://www.apple.com/finalcutstudio/finalcutpro/specs.html for further detail) For details of using HDV with Final Cut Pro 5 please go to http://www.apple.com/finalcutstudio/finalcutpro/editanything.html
I hope this goes someway to answering your queries."
(..So maybe I'll get a post-Christmas present of a quad ..Daniel's should have arrived by now ..wonder if his feet have touched the ground since..)
So we who patiently wait while iMovie HD imports hi-def HDV at half-speed or slower could achieve 'real-time' importing with a PowerMac and lots of RAM, it seems.
I also tried an HC-1 (..the compact 1-chip HDV camcorder..) and have to report that the auto-focus isn't anywhere near so fast as the pretty-near-instant focusing of the FX-1, and - predictably - its low-light performance isn't anywhere near the bright, un-grainy, colourful images of the FX-1. But the HC-1 does have NightShot and Super NightShot for shooting (monochrome) in absolute darkness, helped by infra-red LEDS on the camera, which the big, bulky FX-1 doesn't do. The HC-1 has just about all of the other gizmos of the FX-1 (..user-definable preset transitions - to zoom, change focus, adjust white balance, etc, automatically during shots..) but they're accessible mainly through touch-screen menus, instead of via quick push dedicated switches.
So Happy New Year; hope it's a good one - and a faster Mac DOES mean real-time importing of HDV footage!
[..I notice that Focus FireStore on-camera hard drives - which mean "say goodbye to importing, because your footage is saved to disc while you shoot" - have an HDV-compatible model ..but I think it still takes time to convert the captured HDV MPEG footage on the drive into Apple's Intermediate Codec for editing within iMovie HD. I'll investigate further..]
Hope you had a good Christmas/Hanukah/whatever!

  • Real Time Editing while Shared

is there anyway to unlock the script
while another person is editing, so that it shows in real time... also is there an in program CHAT option..?

The document is locked with the person who is editing it and its released when user saves the document. Then anyone else can acquire it. At a time lock for the document can be only with one of the authors.
The chat program, its already in our list of items but it might take substantial time for us to reach there.
How did you like the sharing feature? Do you suggest any improvements? How important is real time editing for you?

  • AE CS6: How to Ram preview or playback in smooth real-time everytime?

    Hi guys,
I would  like to know how to Ram preview or playback in smooth real-time everytime? I'm using a videohive template and adding in my footages to the media holder comps. The AE template is complex I guess.
Hee's the problem, everytime I make a change to text, add a footage replacement or make any change at all, I have to completely render and wait a long time to see my final product in "Real-time"/smooth. Is there someway that I can render out the whole thing once and even though I make a change the entire video will play smoothly without rendering time?
    PC Specs:
    HP 510t
    Windows 8 Pro x64 bit
    16GB Ram
    i7 2600 CPU @3.4 GHz
    GTX 660Ti

Proxies don't affect rendering beyond the point of reducing the resolution and thus the nuimer of pixels that need to be processed, but since the retain the effect properties at full resolution, e.g. a large blur still renders just as slow. They are more a means of reducing file I/O bandwidth while working really.... As I said, the best way to optimize this would probably be to restructure the project so parts that don't change reside in separate pre-compositions and can use the disk cache.

  • After Effects will not RAM Preview in real time

Recently I have started working on a new project and can't work on it because my RAM Previews are not in real time anymore. I have only had this problem since I started this project a few days ago. Every other project I have done I've never had this problem before.
I have 10 GB of ram allocated to After Effects, my clips are in 59.94 fps which I have set the composition to as well. When I ram preview it tells me 50.019/59.94 I know what this mean, I understand it's telling me to change my composition's frame rate to 50 frames, however if I do this then music plays too slow. Right now my problem is that the clips aren't playing fast enough for me to see if my editing and time syncing is acurate. When I render the video everything is synced up fine but this is making my editing very inconvenient and I would like a fix please. I tried: Clearing my disk and media cache, unchecking "render multiple frames at once", taking off all effects on the clips, using different clips, AND even reinstalling After Effects CS6 but nothing has worked. I really badly need a fix to this problem. Any help would be greatly appreciated thanks!!

    > The clips are in 59.94 frames, so the composition is in 59.94 frames. If when I upload to the internet it goes down in frame rate so be it.
You are misunderstanding the typical video workflow.
Composition setting are supposed to match the characteristics of the intended output, not necessarily the characteristics of the imported footage. This is how you ensure that what you preview exactly matches what you output and what your viewers will see. Consider, also, that most compositions use assets with many different frame rates, sizes, etc.
    > I do have a large monitor but I've been using this monitor since December and haven't had a problem with it until now.
Great. But you're having a problem now. And it's because of a bottleneck somewhere between your RAM and drawing the pixels to the screen. One more reason that this might be happening is that you're running a GPU-heavy application; note that web browsers can also be GPU hogs these days.

  • RAM Previews No Longer Real Time

Work computer.   Mid 2010 Mac Pro with 64GB of RAM.  Running After Effects version 11.0.4.2.   Multiprocessing off.   AJA Control Panel v3.
    1920 x 1080 comps, 29.97 fps, no 3D.
The Mac was running Mountain Lion and RAM previews were FINE.  Zero issues.             Ever.
The computer was upgraded to Mavericks 10.9.5.      I use the term upgrade loosely, BTW.       Now  ...  RAM previews no longer play in real time.  Most I get - and it fluctuates - is 19, 20, 23 frames per second, never 29.97.    Sometimes it blasts all the way up to 40, 45, 47 like it’s playing catch-up, but that’s rare.
    - Restarted the computer. No change.
    - All projects.   Makes no difference, old legacy projects or new.
    - Even simple 1-layer projects with simple position animation, no effects - not real time.
    - 8 bit mode, not just 16 or 32 bit.
    - Color management both on and off.
    - Simulate output on and off.
    - Preferences -> Video Preview was set to AJA, so I tried Computer Monitor Only.  That doesn’t work either.
    - Full Rez, Half, Quarter. . .. . doesn’t matter.    Never real-time.
I've seen others ask about this issue but none of the posts ever resulted in "you need to set 'this' to 'that'" etc.        Have any suggestions?
    Thank you,
    Marc

Mavericks and Yosemite have both have quite a number of issues when folks upgrade to them.
Apple is really starting to bother me lately. First the attitude evident in the Final Cut debacle, then the Mac Pro annoyance, and now the OS upgrade issues... I know smartphones are making them boatloads of money, but they really seem to be neglecting their professional users who've been with them for years before iPhones were even a thing!

  • PS CS6: stroke color picker preview in real time not working

re: NEW color picker stroke color not updating in real time (previewing).
Is it me or has the stroke color preview been removed in CS6 or is there a setting that needs to be changed to enable it?
The problem: When I create a shape layer, press enter and then chose a stroke color from the color picker, I select a color but it doesnt update the stroke color until I press enter. I'm sure it used to change in real time as you clicked on the color picker panel before accepting it.
Any sugestions or ideas as to whats going on or am I going mad?
Further update: This is when creating a shape but using the new stroke feature in the properties bar at the top (the one which gives you the new fancy options like having a dashed, transparent or gradiented stroke) and not the traditional method of adding it as an effect. This still shows a real time update, but the new method doesnt.

If thats working so the color changes in real time for you, then unfortunatley I've got a problem with my version.
Using Win7 CS6 extended, and following your instructions it works for me.
Border changes withn I click on color pallet with color picker.
Odd, same version/ O.S. here, thanks for that though Curt Y. Are you sure you're not clicking on the preset colours and actually using the color picker dialogue box.
I've been in a bit of a rush here at the office and appologise for not being clearer and posting a screencap earlier.
To clarify, its the Cyan dialogue box not the orange box I'm talking about  (nice choice of colours I know ). The top right icon in the organge box with the colours in is how you get to it.

I am working on the project that I need to import images in real time. I mean my program have to get a picture per second.I am very new with LabView and don't know how can I do that. can anyone help me please?
    Thank you in advance.

There is usb camera and I mean by real time is really fast like one picture per second.  I am good at programing but no experience with LabView. Do you think can I code separately in C or C++ and kind of using in LabView.
I have a USB camera mounted on my monitor "looking at me".  I fired up MAX and tried to determine how quickly I could "snap" (take a single image) pictures.  Since I was manually "pushing the button", it was tricky to tell, but it seemed to be possible to take 1/sec.  I then tried "grab", which takes videos -- this was (of course) much easier, and considerably faster (I'd guess tens of frames/second).
I have the Vision module installed, and am using IMAQdx for getting the images.  LabVIEW isn't bad in capturing images, but there's not a lot of hand-holding or extensive documentation -- I think it could be a real challenge to "do it yourself" with no LabVIEW experience.
To even see if this is a viable approach for you, see if you can repeat what I did -- plug in your USB camera, open NI-MAX, and see if the camera shows up.  If it doesn't, stop -- you don't have the LabVIEW software appropriate to do this installed.

  • Trouble drawing a real time line across X axis.

    Hi,
I am trying to draw a line across the X axis in real time, but for some reason, the simply cases are way off. For example, If I try to draw the line for two minutes. my line will only make it to about 1 min 45-50 seconds within that time. I tried to make up for the difference by checking the system clock, but that has not helped. Can anyone see something obviously wrong in my code:
    protected class GraphTimerTask extends TimerTask {
         protected static final int DELAY = 31;
         protected long currentTime = 0;

         protected long getTime() { return currentTime; }
         protected void stop() { isOn = false; timer.cancel(); }
}currentTime is the actual time that is repainted on my graph when the repaint() is called.

  • Having trouble with deploying real time 8.0 vi's

Having trouble deploying a simple vi to my field point platform.  I am using  FP OS v10.4 and labview rt v8.0.  MAX tells me software installations to the target are good and communication in MAX is good.  I can make a windows VI to read a channel on  my field point and it works well. if I duplicate this VI in real time and try to deploy it to the field point unit, it goes well until it starts to download the "FP read" vi and then the download fails.  I have plenty of memory on the fieldpoint unit for this vi - it consists of a FP channel constant, FP read, numeric constant (for data type to FP read), a numeric indicator, a while loop, millisecond multiple vi (loop timing), and stop control.
I am stumped - any help would be great.

Kirk - what controller are you using?  Double check that the
controller has the following listed under Remote Systems >> (your
    controller name) >> Software:
    LabVIEW Real-Time 8.0
    NI-VISA
    FieldPoint VI Manager
    FieldPoint Drivers 5.0

occurs it takes time to generate and propagate the error.  Check

not the case, I suggest trying an example VI that includes a FP Read VI
