Time capsule cannot install at all

Hi i just bought the mac book air with the h all in one printer, time capsule, and cd drive. i am currently haveing trouble getting up my time capsule with my router, wireless printer to the laptop wireless. i get so close to set it then it kicks it off saying that it is not recognized. i followed the manuel very cautiously and yet it still is not working can you please help me install the capsule please.

You might give Apple support a call.
Are you replacing an existing router with the TC? Or are you adding the TC as a wireless access point?
Do you have the USB ethernet option for the MBA or do you have another Mac to configure the TC before connecting wirelessly?
Make sure that you run Software Update to install the TC software update. The other suggestion on many threads to rename the TC (to a shorter name). Then run the Airport setup utility and pick either (Replace Existing network equipment) if you want to replace your router or (Add Network equipment) if you want to add the TC to your router (in this case choose Access Point or Bridge mode as the configuration).
It is hard to help without specifics or more detail. I am sure that Apple can walk you through the setup while on the phone.

my start up disc is full i have a macbook air, i back everuthing up with time capsule and  have movies all my music libraries and photos onto that too so as i have free space, but my max still says my startup disc is full with "other"

First, empty the Trash if you haven't already done so. Then reboot. That will temporarily free up some space.
According to Apple documentation, you need at least 9 GB of available space on the startup volume (as shown in the Finder Info window) for normal operation. You also need enough space left over to allow for growth of your data. There is little or no performance advantage to having more available space than the minimum Apple recommends. Available storage space that you'll never use is wasted space.
If you're using Time Machine to back up a portable Mac, some of the available space will be used to make local snapshots, which are backup copies of files you've recently deleted. The space occupied by local snapshots is reported as available by the Finder, and should be considered as such. In the Storage display of System Information, local snapshots are shown as "Backups." The snapshots are automatically deleted when they expire or when free space falls below a certain level. You ordinarily don't need to, and should not, delete local snapshots yourself.
To locate large files, you can use Spotlight as described here. That method may not find large folders that contain a lot of small files.
You can also use a tool such as OmniDiskSweeper (ODS) to explore your volume and find out what's taking up the space. You can delete files with it, but don't do that unless you're sure that you know what you're deleting and that all data is safely backed up. That means you have multiple backups, not just one.
Proceed further only if the problem hasn't been solved.
ODS can't see the whole filesystem when you run it just by double-clicking; it only sees files that you have permission to read. To see everything, you have to run it as root.
    Back up all data now.
Install ODS in the Applications folder as usual.
Triple-click the line of text below to select it, then copy the selected text to the Clipboard (command-C):sudo /Applications/OmniDiskSweeper.app/Contents/MacOS/OmniDiskSweeper
Launch the Terminal application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Terminal in the icon grid.
Paste into the Terminal window (command-V). You'll be prompted for your login password, which won't be displayed when you type it. You may get a one-time warning not to screw up. If you see a message that your username "is not in the sudoers file," then you're not logged in as an administrator.
I don't recommend that you make a habit of doing this. Don't delete anything while running ODS as root. If something needs to be deleted, make sure you know what it is and how it got there, and then delete it by other, safer, means.
When you're done with ODS, quit it and also quit Terminal.

  • Time Capsule not backup up all of external HDD's Data, only partial.

I cannot get my Time Capsule to back up all of my data spread over two external drives and a internal drive. Can anyone help me to get my TC to back up ALL my data?
    EX HDD 150gb
    EX HDD 120gb
IN HDD 147 out of 230 gb full.
    Total: 417gb
    Time Capsule showing 288gb used.
Is it not sensing one external drive? Is it compressing the data and therefore doesn't add up to total. How do I check for a complete back up? Also, can I back disks up as separate images? Or does Time Machine lump everything into one? Anyone who can answer these questions would be greatly appreciated : )

I think that's it. I did some searching for you and found "A USB drive, directly attached to your iMac's USB port, must be formatted in HFS+ and non-booting for Time Machine to "see" it." So if that is your situation... For further reference check: http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?messageID=8924677

I was able to copy all my files from my Time Capsule, but that is all they are...files. How do I get my new Mac Mini to emulate my other Mac?

    Doggiemommie,
Copying files is not a good idea.
The "other Mac" was backed up onto Time Capsule using the Time Machine. On your new Mac you should restore the old user - rather than copy files manually.
This usually happens during the initial setup of the new computer or you can do it later using Migration Assistant.
Please note, it is possible to damage backup file on the Time Capsule when you browse it and copy files manually.
    Hope this explains.

  • HT1218 How do I troubleshoot this: Time Capsule cannot complete the backup. The backup disk image "/Volumes/Data/ MacBook Pro.sparsebundle" is already in use.

This is the second time I've encountered this issue with Time Capsule using Time Machine automatic backup. I haven't found the following specific error message in the list of troubleshooting issues: "Time Capsule cannot complete the backup. The backup disk image “/Volumes/Data/MacBook Pro.sparsebundle” is already in use."
I'm not certain what causes this issue. I think it may have something to do with having to force shutdown with apps still open when the beachball hangs and the MacBook has to be rebooted.
Has anyone else dealt with this issue?

    Welcome to Apple Support Communities
Restart your Mac and the Time Capsule. In most of the cases, this should solve the problem.
    If it doesn't work, see > http://pondini.org/TM/C12.html

  • How do I safety dispose of an old, unusable time capsule? If at all possible, I would like to recycle.

How do I safety dispose of an old, unusable time capsule?  If at all possible, I would like to recycle.

If the TC is dead.. then you need to open it to erase the hard disk..
    See http://www.ifixit.com/Device/Apple_Time_Capsule
There is nothing you can do in a dead TC to delete your files and if you have info in a TM backup it is a risk.
Apple will exchange the dead one if you buy a new TC.. but they have no return program for the TC itself.
Once you wipe the disk it is safe to put it back and sell on ebay or wherever.

  • Hi iv got a sky router downstairs and a time capsule up stairs how do i set it up so that it just extends the sky wifi and then the hard drive in the time capsule is accessible from all over the house thanks

hi iv got a sky router downstairs and a time capsule up stairs how do i set it up so that it just extends the sky wifi and then the hard drive in the time capsule is accessible from all over the house thanks

Connect an Ethernet cable from one of the LAN <--> ports on the back of the Sky router to the WAN (circle of dots icon) port on the back of the Time Capsule. This connection must be maintained at all times.
Then, using the setup "wizard" on your iMac illustrated below, configure the Time Capsule to create a wireless network that uses the exact same wireless network name and password that the Sky router is using.
You can get the setup wizard going in several different ways, but the simplest might be to click the WiFi icon at the top of the Mac's screen and then click on Time Capsule under the heading of New AirPort Base Station.
The wizard will open up and analyze the network, then the suggest the correct setup. The example below shows an older AirPort Express that is about to be setup in the same way. You will see a Time Capsule icon on your screen when you run the setup wizard.

Have you checked the Canon web site to see if new software/drivers are available and downloaded the latest versions of the software for your device?

A "clicking noise" is often a sign that a hard drive is malfunctioning. Suggest that you power down the device and take it to an Apple store to have them take a look, or contact Customer Service at Apple for instructions.

  • Time Capsule cannot complete the backup, backup disk not available. Help please!

    Hi,
I've only ever been able to complete one back up using my time capsule and have been having problems for months! I've tried resetting and restarting the TC, it re-installs successfully and the green light comes onto the TC. However, when I try to backup I get the following message:
Time Capsule cannot complete the backup. The backup disk is not available.
I've tried taking it into the Apple store to the genius bar and they seem to think it is working fine. It seems to have connected successfully to my network at home so I'm struggling to work out what to do. Does anyone have any ideas?
    Thanks.

Airport time capsule 2 TB. All is connected and Wi-Fi is working but light still flashes amber rather than solid green. I have tried to reset but this still happens. Is there a way to fix this or do I need to?

You want to see a green light on the Time Capsule.
Once you have set up the Time Capsule initially, a flashing amber light indicates that the Time Capsule has a message for you....possibly about a network condition or notice of an update that is available.
Open Macintosh HD > Applications > Utilities > AirPort Utility
Click on the amber dot and another window will appear to provide the current status....along with suggested actions to remedy the flashing amber light.

I recently purchased a brand new Airport Time Capsule 2TB. I already am using the previous generation time capsule to back up all my computers data. May I ask how can I complement the usage with my new time capsule?

By default your new Time Capsule will broadcast an unsecured wireless network with a network name of something like: Apple Network NNNNNN
Most likely your iMacs will be connected to the wireless network created by the Virgin Media router. However, both should see the Apple Network under the AirPort icon's drop-down menu as another wireless network that they can connect to. Is this not the case?

  • Error message: "Time Capsule cannot be found"

I tried accessing my Time Capsule drive from Finder. The TC shows up in the Finder window as a shared drive. However, when I try to open TC, I get an error message that says: "the operation cannot be completed because the original item for Time Capsule cannot be found." The wireless router is working and it shows that I am connected. As I was typing this, a scheduled backup was supposed to begin but the desktop icon that shows the backup in process that pops up when I'm backing up is not appearing.

I am having similar problem. My error: "Connection Failed: There was an error connecting to the server "NAME HERE.local". Check the server name or IP address, and then try again. If you are unable to resolve the problem contact your system administrator".

  • Airport Time Capsule cannot see my existing wireless network

Just bought iMac and an ATC, and have the iMac connected to my wireless network (Linksys WRT1900AC, 802.11ac) and trying to get the ATC to see it and extend it.  The ATC light is blinking amber and while I can see it in the airport utility, when I try to get it to join my wireless network--it doesn't see it, only sees one (my iMac sees 6) and it's my neighbor's (who has a Mac, not sure if Apple wireless)
    What to do?
    Thanks!

The Time Capsule cannot wirelessly "extend" the signal from the Linksys wireless router.
Instead, the Time Capsule needs to connect to the Linksys router using a permanent, wired Ethernet cable connection.
If you want the Time Capsule to provide additional wireless coverage, it can do so. Simply use the same wireless network name and password as the Linksys network.
Here, I am assuming that the Time Capsule will be located a few rooms away from the Linksys router....and not in close proximity to the Linksys router.

  • Time capsule cannot connect to internet

    Hi,
I had just purchase the time capusle(the model they have in stores now) and am trying to use my time capsule as my wifi router but failed.
Here's how it works now, internet-->modem--(LAN)-->Buffalo routerWZR-HP-G302H--(LAN)-->Time Capsule
and how I want it to work internet-->modem--(LAN)-->Time Capsule
When I connect the time capsule directly to the modem, and had setup the timecapsule, the airport utility shows that I am not connected to the internet so I checked from my system preference-->network, it says I am connected to wifi. The Airport Utility still shows that I am not connected to internet, orange/amber light for internet and flashing orange/amber light for time capsule.
At first, airport utility says time capsule has internet connection problem and DNS server and the other problem that I cannot remember, but in the end I fix the other two problem and now there's only one left, that is the internet connection. I am not able to connect to the internet no matter how many time I use the system preference-->network and use "Assist Me" to fix the internet connection, which usually works but not this time. I also try it on my ipods, iphones and ipads and they all cannot connect to the internet through wifi but when I connect the LAN to my computer it works perfectly.
Can anyone help me with this probelm? Why can't it connect to the internet?
    Thanks in advance

There is some extra info I need.
What modem.. make and model..?? What kind of broadband?
How is the Buffalo setup? Is it router or bridged and if router is it using pppoe?
There is nothing wrong with keeping the buffalo .. it is a very reasonable router.. and just use the TC in bridge plugged into it..
I have to confess I really dislike the airport utility v6 in Mountain Lion.. it is a kiddie toy version of the real v5 utility. Half your problems relate to the near to useless nature of the utility.
Can you install 5.6 and then we can get somewhere.
    Here is howto..
How to load 5.6 into ML.
    1. Download 5.6 for Lion.
    http://support.apple.com/kb/DL1482
Click to open the dmg but do not attempt to install the pkg.. it won't work anyway.
    2. Download and install unpkg.
    http://www.timdoug.com/unpkg/
Run unpkg on the desktop.. it is very simple.. drag the AirPortUtility56.pkg file over to unpkg.. and it will create a new directory of the same name on the desktop.. drill down.. applications utilities .. there lo and behold is Airport utility 5.6 .. drag it to your main utilities directory or just run it from current location.
You cannot uninstall 6.1 so don't try.. and you cannot or should not run them both at the same time.. so just ignore the toyland version.. the plastic hammer.. and start using 5.6.. a real tool.
