Time Capsule Error "Can not mount"

I have been using time capsule with the 1TB router for months. After the recent updates, when time capsule runs I get the error "can not be mounted". I have turned off the router and restart the laptop without success. Anyone have similar problems and anyone have a solution for a novice?
thanks

I'm having the same issue of an "Unmountable Drive" issue with my Time Capsule. I did find this from GDMACK in another thread:
"Solved the problem by making the name of the time capsule hard drive "TIMECAPSULE" with no special characters or spaces."
I don't know if it will help our issue but it's worth a shot.

  • I have set up my time capsule but can not see it in finder

I have setup my time capsule, I can see it on the network and have done an initial backup, I can see it under shared devices in finder but when I open it I cannot see any files in the folder

If you have backed up your Mac using Time Machine to the Time Capsule, you would not use the Finder to see the files on the Time Capsule.
If you want to see the backups, click on the Time Machine "clock" icon on the dock at the bottom of the screen and wait a few minutes for everything to load.
Use the scale at the right of the screen to move from different recent backup times or dates. Select the time that you want and use the Finder like interface to navigate to locate a file or folder.

  • Had one mac backed up with TC went to back another to same time capsule now can not find back up for original mac

Had my main mac computer in office for many weeks backed up with TC, all was fine. Earlier today went to back up my Mac Book to the same TC. All appeared to go fine. However went to original mac to see the back ups from the main mac. Said connection error could n ot connect. I can not find any of the original back ups?
I was told that it was a straight forward procedure to add another computer's backups?

On the main computer I try and enter the Time Machine and it is telling me that there is no Location for Time Machine Backups. It then tells me that I need to set time machine up again. I then select the time capsule and ask to use it for back up. It then goes on to tell me that "There was an error connecting to server. Check server name or IP Address, then try again.

  • Time Capsule Error - Disk not Avalable

Just got a new 1TB Dual band Time Capsule. Wireless works, can see the disk on the time capsule, and use Time Machine to select the disk to use for backup. Thing is, when I enter the password and click ok, the fields like "Available, Oldest backup, etc., fill in, then go blank. When it try to back up it errors out. Then the icon in the menu bar shows an triangle with and exclamation point in it. Any ideas how to fix it?

    Figured it out.
It seems as though you have to tell the time machine which user accounts have access to the time capsule. Specify the account name, as listed in your user accounts, with password. If you do this it will allow the time capsule to work.

  • When I set up a guest network on my time capsule nothing can not connect to this network

I have an airport time capsule and I set up a guest network on it. This network is visible, but I can not connect to this using my mac, windows lap tops iPhone and samsung galaxy note 4.

Actually the TC is the main router, but the problem is when I put this on NAT DHCP mode
The device that you call your "modem" is very likely a modem/router or gateway type of device that combines both the functions of a modem and router in one package.
The Guest Network feature will only work correctly when the TC connects to a pure modem.....not a modem/router or gateway.
To see if this is really your problem, please post back with the make and model number of the device that you call your "modem" so we can see exactly what you have.

I can't connect to Time Capsule- error message: Backup disk is not available. Was working fine before.

Restart it.. Does this all the time with Lion and even worse ML.
Restart the whole network if that doesn't work.. do it in correct order.. from off.. modem.. TC.. clients 2min gap.

  • Needing some help with Time Capsule Error.  New to Apple Support and not super tech smart.

Can not get the MacBook Pro to back up to Time Capsule.  Can any one help me with the following Error Please?
The backup disk image “/Volumes/Data/XXXXXXXXXX MacBook Pro.sparsebundle” is already in use.

We don't see that error much but it is about the easiest to fix.
Pull the power on the TC.. count to 10. Plug the power back into the TC.
    Viola.. working TC again.

i'm sorry for repeating this, but i have not found a clear, step-by-step answer in several hours.
i have a macbook with iTunes library, a new iMac, and a new time capsule. how can i transfer my itunes library from TC backup to the iMac?
(sharing the iTunes library between the macbook & iMack requires both machines and seems silly ...)
    thank you -

    No.

  • Just bought Time Capsule and do not intend to use as a router. Can I use it just as a wireless backup to my Mac?

Hi all - Just bought Time Capsule and do not intend to use as a router given that my Uverse router works splendidly.  Can I use it just as a wireless backup to my Mac? Sorry if this is a boneheaded question, but this is my first time backing up my machine ( I know, foolish). Thanks!

Your problem will be if you use wireless for internet then you cannot do both internet and backup at once.. you still should plug the TC into the uverse router and set it in bridge mode.. you can setup wireless if you like on the TC and use either TC or uverse but you must work out how to do both at once.
If you use ethernet on the Mac then wireless to backup is also a bit of an issue.. please ask as I can show you the setup.. or visa versa.. wireless for internet and ethernet for backup..

  • Spent all this money on a Time Capsule I can't use...

I am trying to backup my data, which is 500gb... It took a week to get to 280gb and then the Time Capsule errored out, I assumed it was taking so long because it was trying to backup over Wireless??? Even though I had an ethernet cord plugged into the Time Capsule and too my Mac... I tried to disable Wireless on the Time Capsule but then it won't even mount on my desktop... Anyone know what I could do?

  • Extra hard disk via USB time capsule (2TB) does not show in finder etc

I've found hunderds of questions that look alike but not one has solved it.
I have a Time Capsule with 2 TB hard disk. In all descriptions of the TC Apple states that an extra drive can be attached through the USB.
I did that. Wanting to create an extra network drive.  I connected a (Apple formatted) WD Essential to the USB. With te newest airport configuration programm I do not see the hard drive. I do see it with version 5.6.  BUT: I cannot see what is on it and so (not) select anything. I don't see it with the finder. I did do everything to make sharing possible. When connected directly to IMac it works fine. In airport I selected sharing etc etc.  I don't want the disk to be used as a backup system (via Time Machine). Just an extra network disk. Please help.

I don't have a Time Capsule; I have an AirPort Extreme Base Station, which is similar except for not having the built-in storage.  Since your question got moved from the initial category (where you posted it) to Time Capsule, maybe someone else who has a Time Capsule will pop by with some advice.  If you don't get any more replies (other than from me), you may want to summarized what you learned so far, and post a new question (in this category).  New questions often get more views and responses.
With a Time Capsule, you can share the built-in hard drive as general network storage (not just for Time Machine  purposes), is that correct?  Does that work for you?  Can you set that up using the latest version of AirPort Utility?
If you set that up, I'm guessing it would appear in a Finder window in the same way.  The Time Capsule appears in the Finder window sidebar, under SHARED.  When you select it, the Time Machine's built-in shared volume appears to the right, and you can mount it using whatever security settings you used.  If you have an external drive attached to the Time Capsule as well, and it is set up to be shared, it appears as a second shared volume.  It is still just that one Time Capsule under SHARED in the Finder window's sidebar, but to the right, there are now two shared volumes.  But I don't have a Time Capsule, so I'm not sure about that...
I don't know why the latest version of AirPort Utility does not see the external drive volume?  If possible, I would try another USB storage device (even if it's a 4GB thumb drive), to confirm it does work, and it's not a hardware problem on the Time Capsule's USB port.
Also, if you have not tried so far, you may want to reset your Time Capsule (to give it a fresh start).

  • Attempting to use Migration Assistant to restore a Time Capsule backup to a mounted partitioned drive?

Had a power surge and my Mac Pro did not fare well. Was able to boot from one of the drives in read only mode, so I did a Time Capsule backup of everything on the drive. Reinstalled Mountain Lion. Booted the computer up and am trying to use Migration Assistant to take the Time Capsule backup and restore it to the 1TB drive. When I use Migration Assistant, it says that there is not enough space on the drive to do the restore. I looked in Disk Utility and saw that the start up disk is another one of the 1TB drives with about 600GB used, therefore not enough space to do the restore. I want to restore to the original drive, but it says it is a "Mounted Partitioned Drive". Can I use Migration Assistant to restore a Time Capsule backup to this mounted partitioned drive?
Thanks in advance for any help - greatly appreciated.

I am not sure, never had to go there, I have multiple bootable clones of the system online and off, and a couple 1500VA/900W UPS units powering everything.

  • "Firmware","disk error","can't mount it": Is this the end?

"Firmware","disk error","can't mount it": Is this the end? My iShuffle is DEAD?
I think it's dead but as my last breath i will try to find any different solution before to bury it. Sorry for my English, I am Brazilian, but I will try do my best for you understand me. It’s me who needs help.
    I have an iShuffle 512MB (purchase OUT2005), a mini iPod 6GB (purchase SET2005) and a PC running Windows XP SP2 (ADM Athlon XP 2600, HD 120GB, 512MB RAM, 6 USB 2.0).
My mini iPod 6GB (miP6) works correctly with iTunes 5 or 6, with its original factory software and settings and now with iPod update October 2005. I don’t know if everything started when I first connected them two at the same time but they were working fine in the beginning.
One day my iShuffle, connected to my PC USB and transferring music from iTunes, , started to turn off and turn on, that is, iTunes showed it connected and then disconnected even I wasn’t touching it. When it came back in iTunes I started to try to transfer music to it and this time it came off, and then came back without that music I tried to transfer in. This situation didn’t go better even when I try to change my iPod to the other five USB ports, neither in my Notebook (PC WinXP SP2). I have reinstalled iPod with the original CD software, reinstalled iTunes and all the things I read at this forum. The situation was going worse until now, I don’t know why, I can’t use it anymore. The current situation, after all I did – and I will explain what was - is:
    1) When I connect it to a USB in my PC or Notebook, windows recognize it as a mass storage device and iTunes don’t start automatically.
    2) I go to windows explorer and there it is, “Drive E: removable disk”, but…
    3) But it looks like a Drive, with no disk in it. It’s a kind of a CD-ROM drive with NO CD inside it. This way, I can’t format it because I can’t format a drive, just a disk, even partition it.
    4) When I connect it to other PCs (winXP), with no iPod software installed, the systems first recognize it as Apple iPod and then as USB Mass Storage device, but the same way at my PC: OKB.
    5) When I try to run iPod Updater I receive most of the times this message: “Can’t mount it”. Some times it recognizes it as an iPod but I receive the message, during the restoring original software process, “Firmware update failure. Disk write error”, as you can see here: http://www.ivan.med.br/ishuffle.jpg.
    6) So, to try to use Updater, at this time, is out of question. If there is anyway to save it, I think it must be through other software or adjustment, I don’t know. I will show you a brief of what I have done until now:
    “Windows-try”
    - Current updater. Reinstalled old updater and run too. Reinstalled iTunes and all this stuff.
    - Changed USB connection and reinstall USB drives.
    - Installed iShuffle at another machine the same way described in iShuffle Manual.
    - Tried to format it using windows explorer format tool and other no-windows native tools.
    - Used partition magic and other tool to try to build anything in it.
    - Used Click Administrative Tools, double-clicked Computer Management, and then clicked Disk Management in the left pane. Nothing appeared. When I connect my miP6 it is there, and everything works fine. Just remember.
    - Used Windows tools (CMD tools) as DiskPart and MountVol. Nothing.
    “DOS-Try”
    - I used a bootable win98 formatted floppy disk, with USB ASPI support, and the system recognized the two USB devices I have connected that time: my Apple “DEAD” iShuffle and my Pendrive. But it could not assign a letter to iSuffle device, only for the pendrive. I’ve used DUSE software too and the same answer, even with an instruction INT13 that allow me to use Fdisk. But even Fdisk could not recognize the iPod as a Disk.
So, this is my story. If anyone could understand it and know anything better than to bury it, send me your message, PLEASE. If you want to send me any software or tool you think can help me, my e-mail address

Same problem in the US...after 1 week of use, hit the reverse button while playing and it stopped, never to resume. Tried the latest software updater for both the ipod and itunes, and received the Ipod Service and Can't Mount Errors. After multiple attempts, all I get is the updater screen stating Initializing.. Additionally, when I tried to reinstall, it stated that the ipod needed to be formatted, yet I received a message that the ipod couldn't communicate. Seems like too many people are having the same issue!

  • "mount: only root can mount" or "Unprivileged user can not mount NTFS"

I'm trying to set up an NTFS partition to use as a common data partition between Arch and Windows. I have it added to fstab so that any user in the ntfsuser group can have access to it, but if it gets unmounted accidentally from the "eject" symbol in the nautilus gui, you have to sudo to mount it back up. Is there a way for it to be remounted automatically when you click on the partition again in Nautilus? I've searched all through the forums and looked through several articles on the wiki but haven't been able to come up with anything. The error I get says
mount: only root can mount /dev/sda4 on /home/adam/UserData
I've tried adding the users option to fstab, but that only manages to change the error to
Unprivileged user can not mount NTFS block devices using the external FUSE
library. Either mount the volume as root, or rebuild NTFS-3G with integrated
FUSE support and make it setuid root. Please see more information at
    http://ntfs-3g.org/support.html#unprivileged
I've tried the suggestions at the link in the error, as well as tried the solutions given in [solved] Gnome : mounting NTFS partition as user and a few other posts, but still nothing. If possible, I'd prefer to stay away from the users option in fstab, since it adds a redundant link to the sidebar in nautilus with a different name.

@Mr.Elendig: It is mounted through fstab normally, but in nautilus there's an eject icon on the sidebar next to the name of the drive which I've accidentally clicked on a couple times if I'm just trying to open the drive real quick. Once its been unmounted like that it won't let me remount unless I use sudo. I'm just looking for something to make it a little more convenient than having to pop open a cli and type in a password.
I'll try the suid root when I get home tonight, otherwise I'll look into autofs.

  • Why does my time capsule error code -6584

    time capsule error code -6584

    There are a few causes..
    Using the More Like This..
the top reference is helpful.. but you can see this is a regular problem.

Basically reboot the whole network.. restart in correct order.. modem.. router/TC...Clients.. 2min gap
Half the time will fix it.
It can also be the backup is corrupt and needs repair.
Are you aware of the supplement to 10.7.5 to fix TM??
This is not related to your problem,, rather it is slow backups.
