Time remapping and non integers

why does premiere occasionally decide to make make your timeline based remapping a non whole number?  Why does it stick?  How do you get rid of it?
Currently got a clip which goes from whole number to 50.26, I can change it, I'm going to have to delete that keyframe and re-do all the others that come after it.  Nice

For several years I "carried the flag" for requesting that Time Remapping be included in PPro, since I (and I'm sure others) used it frequently in AE.  Then, when it was finally added and they completely changed this effect/workflow from the way it is done in AE, it was a major disappointment.
Time Remapping in PPro is really klunky and reminds me of the Premiere 6.5 interface.  In AE you simply add a keyframe and ramp the time up or down...copy/paste keyframes...and audio gets mapped too.  I also like filling a section of the timeline and then NOT having my clip change length when adjusting TR.
The real head shaker was that this was done when Adobe was emphasizing "seamless integration" between the suite....and TR in PPro wasn't even recognized in AE when released.  I don't mean to rant, because Adobe has made great strides in the last couple realeases, but this one was tough...a very fundamental aspect of the editing workflow, that was not made consistent across the two apps.
I would really, really like to see "Time Remapping AE" added to PPro, or possibly just a modification to this effect in a future release.
And looking at PPro now, I think the "Effects Controls"  window in general will likely be redesigned to be more elegant and responsive as well.  TR is a good example of how working in this window can be pretty laborious.

  • PPro + AE Workflow - Time remapping and indiviudal expressions, music sync.

I've done a lot of work in After Effects while working with it in school and learning the program, but have never really implemented any actual effects or expressions in an actual film. Currently, for a project I'm working on a music based video and hope to include some time remapping and individual expressions on a specific clips. Since my project is music based, and such effects as time remapping would require a lot of synchronization, what would be the best way to add these effects? I've read on a few discussions that it would be best to get the base of my editing done first in Premiere, then import/export (can't remember which) to AE and finish the effects there. This makes sense to me since all of the music would be in its final context. However, I've also read from some that it's easier to add effects to the specific clips that need it, then add them to Premiere project via dynamic link. However, this seems problematic as it would be hard to synchronize with music.
I'm sure that this isn't an uncommon task, since music videos aren't very daunting, but wondering if I'm just missing something that makes more sense. As always, any all advice and suggestions are greatly appreciated.
    Thanks.

  • CS6. Need to have time remapping and warp stabilizer work together.

This should be obvious for most people. These two effects must be made to work together.
If you're shooting with a glider you're usually moving very carefully (read: slower than normal) so the footage in post would need to be sped up plus stabilized a bit.
Currently warp stabilizer and time remapping cannot be applied at the same time. But I *need* it to be applied at the same time. I need a workaround.
    Should I:
    1. shorten the clips, export them, re-import them into the project, and then apply stabilizer?
    2. apply the stabilizer, export them, re-import them into the project, and then shorten them?
How do I export individual clips as just seperate clips while Premiere? Do I have to drag them into an empty timeline one by one, apply the stabilizer/remapping, and export, remove the clip, put in the second clip, etc all one by one?
I've used Mercalli in the past and I time remap the footage and then apply Mercalli to the accelerated clip. Mercalli doesn't mind a bit.

Adobe might have written the code in a way that doesn't include the ability to deal with that extra variable. I'm assuming that when it's nested it then makes the timeline it's in just read it as a normal clip again instead of a clip with a non-supported variable included.
Although I'm totally just guessing, but if what I'm saying is correct it would mean a fix wouldn't be very much work at all. Which means in the future they could simply provide a quick and easy patch to fix this. I'd highly suggest to make a feature request.
    https://www.adobe.com/cfusion/mmform/index.cfm?name=wishform
Does Adobe read these feature requests? I often have a hard time justifying spending time to type out something when I feel like it's just being thrown into a black hole. I'm sure the team gets thousands of feature requests. It's like the lottery. Statistically you will never win. Sure, you'll never win if you don't play, but it's still a waste of time to play. I know, I'm pessimistic. Just don't have much faith in conglomerates - although Lightroom 3 is by far the most perfect program I have ever used and I would kiss the LR3 team if I could.
With Lightroom, Photoshop is hardly needed anymore unless absolutely necessary or for truly intensive chop-like edits. Premiere DESPERATELY needs a Lightroom equivalent.
I have half a mind to guess (nicely) that you video guys have absolutely no idea what you're missing out on, workflow-wise. It's life-changing. Literally.
I'm doing a video right now and I can't stop thinking about how if I had a Lightroom workflow, this video consisting of 40 clips, 40 titles, 40 transitions, audio tracks could be on the way to final export in 5 minutes. 5 MINUTES. And be 100% as good as if I had to spend an hour doing this in traditional Premiere.

  • Time Remapping and Video Stabilization Simultaneously

Are you kidding me.  I found complicated help and work arounds that would help me to speed up and stabilize a video clip, however, the embarrasing discovery is that a Macintosh proprietary software that comes standard with each Apple computer purchase (Imovie), has a stabilizater and time remapper that works seamlessly.  It was so simple, I can't believe that Adobe hasn't figure that out yet. Waisted 4 hours trying figure out what I accomplished in 5 with Imovie.  Like Whoa!

The CC warp stabilizer works way better than iMovie's, has many more options, and will stabilize shots that iMovie can't deal with effectively.
The proper production workflow is to stabilize, render or pre-compose and then time remap. You can do all of this without the render by simply applying warp stabilize to a layer, pre-composing the layer, then applying time remapping to the pre-comp.
The solution to something not working when you try and apply multiple effects to a single layer is almost always apply the first effect (warp stabilizer) and then pre-compose and apply the other effects. That's how you apply a mask or an effect to a ray traced 3D layer. That's how you stabilize and time remap.

  • Time-remapping nesting and zooms

So I've got a clip that I want to slow down and zoom Its a 1080p clip on a 720 timeline.
If i was just zooming I'd setup the keyframes and zoom out.  But you cant zoom and time-remap, and if you do the time remapping first and then nest, the zoom wont work, and if you do it the other way round you have to try to imagine what your zoom will look like with the time-remapping applied.
    Is there another way?

    What version?

  • Time remapping / slow motion extremely jumpy with nested sequence!

I have just finished the rough-cut of a ceremony when I went back to add effects-- slow motion, color correct, etc. only to find that ANY time-change is jittery-- extremely jittery, like it's skipping frames.
For trial purposes I created a new timeline with only one video clip placed multiple times. I reduced one to 50% with frame-blending, the other 50% with NO frame-blending and the final using time re-mapping with frame-blending. At 50% I don't expect fluid movement, but they are all acceptable... Until I put a different timeline in the timeline (I think it's a "nested sequence").
When speed is slowed on ANY nested sequence it is jittery. Whether it is a single nested sequence or a multi-camera sequence, it jumps.
Has anyone else had this problem?! Is this a bug? I never noticed it until this wedding. I am using CS3 and I cannot afford the time to re-edit this ceremony with 2.0.... Unless I have no choice.

    Hi Wil,
I have tried using both. Time remapping on the clip (not nested) works fine, so does 'speed change.' But both time remapping and speed change result in jumpy frames when applied to a nested sequenced clip.
I tried this on another (much lower system) and have found the same results. I am begining to think it is the footage but it seems odd that it is perfect when applied to a clip in the timeline but NOT to a timeline in the timeline (nested).
I am on vacation and do not have access to a faster machine until next late next week but for now I will try the export again to be sure Encore sees the same thing.
I am dumbfounded because I had been using 1.5, then 2.0 and now CS3 for weddings for years and have never noticed this. I have noticed it on the both the last project and now this current one.
I thought it could have been the original footage (or a camera problem except that the problems are not there until a nested sequence comes along. I will try moving the footage to my internal drive now and see what happens...
Thank you so far for giving me ideas.

  • Time Remapped Dolly Shot, Smooth in AE, but Jerky in Rendering

    Hi,
My workflow:  Canon h.264 original footage transcoded to ProRes 4444 in Compressor.  Imported to HD project in AE, footage time remapped to smooth out uneveness in dolly speed, with Frame Blending turned on.  AE 5.5 Mac OS 10.6
My question is that the ram preview  below is relatively smooth, but when I exported a PR4444 sequence to FCP, once in the timeline it's jerky and stutters. (Forgive the sloppy mask, it's now fixed).  The stutters and jerks also appear when playing the 4444 clip back in QT10, and Vimeo.
    Any suggestions?  Pixel Motion needed?

Depends on what your set up is in FCP. I'm going to assume you know what you're doing in FCP as far as how to set sequences properly and you know the limitations of your machine.
    > Yes I'm aware of the timeline issues, and had hoped that once exported/rendered out of fcp that it would go away.  The above link was a Vimeo compressed RAM preview out of AE And that plays smoothly!.  Not out of fcp however. <
Well, exporting out of FCP is not really part of this equation. If you export to the codec you're using for your playback of the finished project, say, H.264 or MP4 or MPEG2, the clip will play perfectly within the capabilites of your machine and the player app you are using.
    > Would it help to see what it looks like out of fcp on Vimeo? <
Nope. The vimeo clip will always play fine because, regardless of what it started out as, when you upload to vimeo it is transocded to the vimeo-friendly codec.
    > Do you think this is because of the heaviness of the 4444 clip?<
Not liekly. Heavy, maybe, but ProRes is designed to be used without issues in FCP on Macs in Quicktime. One uses 4444 only if one needs the alpha. If you don't need the alpha, any of the 422s will work fine. I didn't see the mask you mentioned so I don't know why you're using 4444. It is not often that 4444 cannot be played in FCP unless the pixel dimensions are just too large or you've chosen a weird frame rate. In that case, the clip must be heavily processed before it can fit the timeline's settings.
I find the time remapping and motion smoothing capabilites of Apple Motion's optical flow functions are completely adequate for all but the most extreme screwups encountered while shooting.

  • Any way to STOP Time Remap from rippling clips?

    Hi Guys,
I'm editing a music clip right now that requires a fair bit of slow-mo and fast-mo and I am using Final Cut's very capable time remapping tool to acheive this. Please bear in mind that I am using the "Constant Speed" option.
One thing that really spoils my day is the way re-mapped clips ripple through the rest of the sequence, moving all the rest of my clips up or down. As you can imagine, I've got everything going to the beat and when I remap a clip it screws up my timing.
Is there any way to prevent this from happening?
    All the best
    Iain

I've been kvetching about this silly design decision for years. This is the only extend-length-of-clip function FCP treats as an insert. It's lame. Or, if it's not lame, at least the operation should be user-switchable.
Time changes are handled much more efficiently in every other NLE. The workarounds described here are all kluges and require many additional steps. But the workarounds work and you get used to them. My method is to have a special sequence open dedicated to only time remapping and speed changes. Bouncing in and out of the TIMING sequence ain't that tough but it sure bugs me.

  • Premiere Pro & Audition tifferent time settings and cant edit anything correctly.

In Premiere Pro i put video, edit it in After Effects but audio in Audition.
When all is correct then i speed up video in Premiere pro but since audio speedup is shi-bad therefore i speed up in audition BUT ITS IMPOSSIBLE TO GET CORRECT TIME LINE IN PREMIERE TO PUT IN IN AUDIOTION.
In Audiotion Effect/Time and pitch/Strech and pitcher when i put same speed as in Premiere, Audition does the opposite.
Thats one fuc-bad bug/difference. Ok. So then ill try to hover with mouse video i just speed up lenght in Premiere. Hovering gives in, out point times and total time of clips leght. Right? Maybe.. couse if i put that lenght in Audidiotion as desired legnght, clicked save and ctrl+s alt+f4 and see in Premiere.. THEN IS SOMEHOW A LOT SHORTER THEN IT WAS SUPPOSED TO BE.
In Idiotion i can change time settings and none helps.
In PremiProion i can change to audio time and that isnt corrent also.
Even just opening audio in Audition from Premiere without speed up they show whatever you change a different times.

Clip with Video/Audio i put in Premiere
    Divided
Video clip right click replace with After Effect composition.
and what i do in premiere doesnt matter couse lenght i ckeck in Premiere hovering over other example video (to see the lenght witch to write in desired Audition speed up couse in audition 115% speedup is speedown for any illogical reason)
So Original ivdeo/audiot i speed up to see leght hovering with mouse over
BUT in Audition it shows ( i dont care what it shows i just need to put correct value in percentage in Audition but since that also doesnt work i need to know correct leght)
SO how long video i need?
In premiere audio original leght witch is now open in audition
    OR in speedup settings
LOL WUT? Different duration bug also and doesnt change ANYTHING couse differences allways were for one clip- too long for other too short when using times from premiere.
SO 115 % eh? If we dont look then all is fine and i dont care what is in premiere in end and i dont need to read that duration is now too long. I would automatically just save export and then in hollywood only see something was wrong with this premieridiotion software but not my assumtions.
Ok since i saw that 115% in premiere now turnet too long..
I check whats wrong for some time. Then i try all again slow and i see there duration.
Ok i enter duration witch we now check in premiere (where else?, the clip is shortened in premiere)
    AND NOW ITS TOO SHORT
Heres time settings. NONE SHOW EXACT LENGHT OF AUDIO SAME AS IN PREMIERE
SO what are time FPS in Premiere? Whats the difference? Shouldnt they work at least on some standarts?
ps. also adding to bug of ****** Premiere audio speed up and solution bugs in Audition, here another bug- YOU CANT ENTER THIS CUSTOM FPS SPEED AS I SEE IN PREMIERE IT WANTS TO WORK WITH AUTOMATICALLY 24,81 fps
AND WHY WOULDNT THEY BE AUTOMATICALLY SYNCHRONIZED if audio is LINKED TO PREMIERE???

  • Why can't Adobe Premiere Pro CC 2014 Time remap Audio and Video together?

In case you didn't notice, my question is WHY.  I don't know why Premiere Pro can't do this.  From what I understand at the moment, the only way to time-remap audio in any way shape or form using Adobe software is through Adobe After Effects, which my computer has absolutely no chance of running ever.  I know how to do regular stretching of audio in both Audition and Premiere Pro, but apparently I can't time-remap audio using either of these programs.
So why can't Adobe Premiere Pro time remap audio along with the video?  What's the reason that it can't?  It's a massive disappointment and would be very impressive to see accomplished in the future.  If it's possible to time remap audio and video together in After Effects, that's great and all, except for the fact that I can't use that program.  Why can't it be done in Premiere Pro and will it ever be possible in Premiere Pro?
Also, will time remapping audio become possible in Audition someday?

If you experience this issue on a Mac, disconnect third-party devices, hubs, spare cables, displays, reset the SMC, and then try to restore. If you are using a Windows computer, remove all USB devices and spare cables other than your keyboard, mouse, and the device, restart the computer, and try to restore. If that does not resolve the issue, try the USB issue-resolution steps and articles listed for Error 1604 above. If the issue persists, it may be related to conflicting security software. If the errors persist on another computer and known-good USB cable, the device may need service.

But also I don't keep all my stuff in my Mac.
    But not for that.
This older and not day-by-day usage files I want to store in the time machine.
You can do that (see below), but how are you going to back them up?   If your only copies are on the TC, when (not if) it fails, you risk losing your only copy of the data.
Is it possible to split TC in two partitions.
No, but there are some workarounds, including making a fixed-size disk image on it to "reserve" some space.  See #Q3 in Using Time Machine with a Time Capsule.
But you still won't have backups of the stuff you put there.
You don't say what kind of Mac you have.  If it's a desktop model, just keep the external HD connected to it, and let Time Machine back it up along with your internal HD.
However, it sounds like you may have a laptop, where that's not going to be convenient.  In that case, your best bet might be to copy the external HD to a disk image on the TC as above, then keep the HD in a safe place.
To finish, when i enter the TC and go through the Time line how can I get a file from there and move it back to Mac hd.

  • Using motion tracking and time remapping to smooth pans?

    Hi!
I shot some video with a cheap tripod and I'm not happy with some of the panning shots that I made. It came to my mind that it might be possible to smooth out the un-even speeds of those pans by tracking the footage and then using time remapping to make the movement smooth and constant. However, I don't know how to do the math in the right way. Has anyone tried this before? Is there maybe even tutorials on the subject?
Any help will be appreciated! Thanks!

I saw someone else thinking about the same solution on another forum so I decided to bump this a little bit.
The way I see it, this should be doable (unless there is something that I really dont understand).
The way it would work is this:
You have a panning shot of a stationary scene (no moving objects). You choose a track point that is visible during the pan and motion track that point. Then you look at the speed of that track point (how fast it is moving ie. from left to right) as pixels per seconds. And then you tie it to the time remapping property to make the speed (pixels per seconds) move in a constant manner.
The way I see it, there should be no black gaps when using a method like this, which kind of is why I'm interested in the consept. Because you are not moving the frame around spatially, you are simply changing the time it takes for a point to get from A to B.
    What do you guys think?
