Timecode window burn in FCP3

I have to export footage to a client that wants to give me a list of in and out points for shots.
I am not at FCP to experiment, but should I export all my clips to one qt movie at the TCE window burn effect or I read that you can nest your clips and add the effect/filter.
Either way, can you walk me through how to do it. I am using P2 media at 720p and have about an hour and a half of clips.
I have FCP3. Again, sorry for asking a beginning question, but I have only done this in adobe and not in FCP yet.

Then you did it incorrectly or FCP is not working correctly.
If you apply the TCG to the NESTED SEQUENCE, there is only one "clip". There is nothing to start and stop.
This is what I do.
Create new sequence in the Browser.
Double click on it to open it.
Drag Sequence 1 from the Browser and drop it onto the Sequence 2 timeline.
Drag the Time Code Generator and drop it on the nested sequence.
Export.

  • FCP 7.0.3 Timecode window burn

I cant seem to do a timecode window burn

In your project, make a new sequence (empty) sequence with the same settings as the finished sequence you want the timecode burn for.
Once you create the new sequence, return to your finished sequence. Remove any In or Out points. Now open the new, empty timeline you created. Drag the icon of your finished sequence from the FCP browser to the new (empty) timeline.
Your Finished sequence will appear in the new sequence as a nested track.
Now go to Effects Tab > Video Filters > Video > Timecode Reader.
Apply the Timecode Reader filter to the nested clip on your timeline.
If you want to make adjustments to the Timecode Reader filter, control-click on the nested clip and select Open from the drop-down menu. Once it is open in the viewer, click on the Filters tab to make adjustments. If you double click on the nested clip, it will open your original timeline.

  • Timecode window burn with filename?

I need to make a timecode window DVD of about 5 hours of raw clips for a client.
Is there anyway to automate burning in the clip filename onscreen along with the timecode window?
    Thanks
    Al

MAYBE...with that. FCP doesn't do it on it's own.
Why file names? TC is all you need. Make sure you burn ONE DVD per tape...name that DVD the tape name and then keeping track of footage will be easier.

  • Large Timecode Window Trick

    Hi,
One of the things I miss from Avid in fcpx is the nice big scalable timecode window. This is quite essential when you work in a team where more people need to be able to see the timecode. As far as I know the only solution in fcpx is to add the timecode plugin on your clips and scale that up.
I stumbled upon an Apple app called "Pixie" from the "Graphics Tools for Xcode" which is found on Apples developer site. This app can enlarge a part of your screen and display it in an always on top window.
Just start the app, go to settings and turn off "Enable Development Mode" to get rid of the overlays, scale your window to your size and choose zoom level.
By default it follows the mouse, so just aim at the timecode and lock the axis with CMD+X and CMD+Y. If it gets in the way, just select it and CMD+H to hide it. Or just move it...
The numbers is quite low res from the scaling, but it is probably better on a Retina.
Not a perfect solution, but a good tip I think!
I attached a picture of it in action.

  • Is it not possible to paste values into the timecode window in FCPX?

I am doing a lot of manual time timecode entering - from someone wo has handed me a paper edit (in the form of an XL spreadsheet)
Has anyone had any success pasting a value into the timecode window?  I can't seem to paste even itf I click it first and it turns blue.  I can type it in, but I need to copy and paste values. There's a lot of them.

  • Any timecode window plug-ins for older versions of FCE?

Hey - thanks in advance for any help on this.
I use FCE version 1 on a G4 running OSX 2.9. The most commonly recommended Free timecode plugin doesn't seem to work in my version. I install it, but it's not visible in the bins where it's supposed to show up. I tried saving it as a unix and/or unicode and all that other gobbly gook that you're supposed to try if it doesn't install properly. Anyhow, none of that helped. I can only assume it's because of my earlier version of FCE or my OSX.
I need a timecode window visible on my finished project because I'm sending to a closed captioning place. Thanks again.

  • Filename/source window burn ??

    Hi all
Does anyone know a way to print/display or window burn (like the frame counter generator) the filename, that is, the name of the source clip on the video screen, for export aswel. Is there any plug-in available for this, because I couldn't find any way in final cut itself. As an alternative, a possibility to do the same in quicktime itself would help me a bit aswel.
    Thanks for helping out.

The plugin which was mentioned above at first only prints the reel name, and not the source filename. I don't see why this plugin couldn't be modified to print that instead.
To manually enter the filename is indeed an option, but as I got 26 episodes of animation to work on, which have each 200+ scenes (read 'files') it would be great to save up on al the work. The reason that I need this is because several people have to check and write comments on al the scenes for each episode, and to avoid that (incase someone mixes up the scene numbers or forgot to count, or when scenes drop and numbering isn't correct anymore) the production drowns in chaos, it is rather important.
But.. as we are working with TGA stills to start with, I'm about to test this program called 'quickbatch' or so. Perhaps I can burn the filename during compiling the quicktimemovies to edit with.
Anyone knows of some other quicktime application which might solve my problem ?
    Thanks for helping out

  • Change timecode window source in CC

    Hi everyone,
I swear in CS6 I used to be able to switch the source that the dedicated timecode window was looking at using the little window menu toggle (ie. from program source to each video track). I can't for the life of me work out how to do this in Premiere CC now! Am I missing something really obvious? Currently when I open the Timecode window (Menu>Window>Timecode) it displays the timeline program timecode. I want to instead see the source timecode of the video sitting on a particular track instead. (Yes, I know I can drop a Timecode filter on it but for this purpose I'm trying to sync up lots of little clips so I'm already using the filter on my top layer - I just need to know what the bottom layer is reading).
    Cheers

Thanks for the reply. I could have sworn I had the option to select it in a previous PrPro - and the only other Premiere I've used in recent years is CS6, so I assumed that was it. The odd thing is the help file makes mention of the option to switch the timecode source:
View timecode in the Timecode panel
You can view timecode in the Timecode panel. To view the Timecode panel, choose Window > Timecode.
You can view the following in the Timecode panel:
If you have the Source panel selected, the Timecode panel will display source timecode.
If you have the Timeline panel, or the Program panel selected, you can choose to display sequence timecode, or source timecode from the panel menu. You can choose which audio or video track’s timecode to display from the panel menu, as well.

  • Possible with larger timecode window with new FxPlug 3 functions?

    Hi,
One of the things I miss in fcpx is a larger timecode window. This is a must when working in pair with a reporter. The small standard timecode display is just too small and too hard to read from a distance.
The new FxPlug 3 functions "allows developers to create custom interfaces for their plugins inside of Final Cut."
So does anyone have an idea if it is possible to make a larger timecode window that displays the source timecode?
    Thanks!

    Well...
The compression I gave you was h.264. A nice small web version that plays nice and looks good.
Not sure what compression at the size you were talking about would actually get you to 2 gigs.
I'd send him that... or ask for a more specific call on what he gets from the TV work. I suggest he open one of those files in QUICKTIME and hit COMMAND-I (EYE) to get the information. Have him post or send you a screen grab like this:

  • Itunes for windows - burning issues - 4280 error

I have been able to burn cd's until I updated I-tunes with the 7.0 version. I can import but cannot burn at all. I have updated all my drivers and firmware, uninstalled and installed I-tunes, updated xp pro and windows, changed burn speeds, etc. etc. Sometimes it gives me a 4280 error before beginning the burn, other times it will go through the motions of burning but will only give me a blank cd at the end, and sometimes it will burn something (you can look at the disc and see that something is burned) but it doesn't work in any cd player or cd drive on the computer. Also I am running my computer as an administrator so that is not the problem. I have gone through searches on google and have gone through the forum discussions in I-tunes but have not found a solution. Here is the diagnostics that was run through I-tunes:

I have read somewhere that the problem could possibly be with one of the updates for windows xp but I'm not sure if I believe that. Is there anybody out there that can help me with this?

Well...after spending countless hours trying to update drivers and such...and basically finding out that everything was up to date....whoollaaa! I-tunes comes out with version 7.0.2 yesterday. So...I installed this and now I'm able to burn cd's.

  • Why can't iTunes for Windows burn two discs at once?

Is there a way to get around this? I have many playlists I want to burn for car listening and only using one drive with one burn at a time is time consuming. I've heard that the Mac version can burn two discs at once and I wonder why the Windows version has been neglected in that capability. Any help or insight would be appreciated.

I have never heard that the Mac version can burn two discs at once.  The Windows version definitely cannot.  If you would like to make a suggestion to Apple you can use this link:  http://www.apple.com/feedback/itunesapp.html   However, I assume you are aware that the iTunes burning capability has not been enhanced in years.

  • Small window near timecode window

I got this small rectangular window ("move" with area to type in timecode). Any idea what this is? Locked up my program.

Never mind. When all else fails, read the manual. Found out what the window is for. Select object and type in where to move it .

  • Can't see/open windows-burned cds

I have 3 Windows XP-burned cds that don't show up on my Mac desktop when inserted.
I know when I burned a disk in Vista recently, it gave me the choice of default or mac-readable and I was able to burn that one correctly. I assumed it was the same deal with XP so I gave the disks to a Windows XP friend to redo and she can't see any instructions to make it mac-readable.
They were burned at different times on two different computers. One has documents that I have the software to open. The other two are .avi movies taken with a digital camera.
How can I ensure that they will be mac-readable?

This is more of a, "How to use Windows XP," than a, "How to use Panther" question. Basically you probably need to make sure the disc is closed, and preferably in some Mac compatible format such as ISO 9660.

  • Windows Burned CDs not readable

Can someone help me figure out why my Burned CDs won't work on my mac if they were burned with Nero 6 for Windows (I burned several CDs on my PC and when they are inserted in my iBook, three minutes later, they get ejected!) I am wondering how I can fix this, because I also seem to have a problem being able to burn CDs from the finder as well (blank CDs don't show up in the finder, and disk utility says that I am unable to burn CDs, but I have been able to burn them 2 months ago!) please help me out if you know what is going on! I am really frustrated about this!

    Welcome to Discussions!
Awhile back, there was an issue with the combo drives that were shipped in the iBook G4's, so it is possible that your experiencing the same failure. Have you tried using CDs that have been burned on a different PC? Will the drive read "normal" CDs? (store-bought music, or retail game CDs) Can you boot off of the OS X install CDs that came with your iBook? If you can boot off the OS X CD, try running Apple Hardware Test. If that comes back ok, run disk first aid, and repair permissions (repair permissions 2-3x in a row). If none of that works, call Apple Support. If you were able to boot off the Mac OS X CD, you might try backing up all pertnint info onto your external HD, and reinstall the System Software.

  • Setting Timecodes to burn to a Double-Layered Disk

    Greetings:
I am in DVD STUDIO PRO that has video run through FINAL CUT PRO HD.
I'm trying to burn to a double-layered disk, but I need to know what to do to set the time codes so that when DVD STUDIO PRO gets to the end of the first layer of the DVD it can read the timecode break to go to the next layer and finish the video. It stops Formatting because it doesn't see any timecode break.
I have read the manual, but it makes no sense to me.
What is the procedure I need to go through to make this happen?

Ah so it is a bit different than this thread
    http://discussions.apple.com/message.jspa?messageID=4901196#4901196
So you need to set a Dual Layer Break Point?
ince you are using a Dual Layer Disc, there has to be a break point where it crosses over from Layer 0 to Layer 1, if you have no Chapter Markers at all (or a limited number of Markers, none of which fall near the point where more than half the project will be placed on Layer 0) (Was your test project a DVD-9 also?) -- In general, Layer 0 has to be bigger than Layer 1
    What you do is
1.) Set up markers in the areas where your would guesstinmate the Layer Break(s) should be
2.) Build the project (but not format)
3.) Format a Disc (in the dialog that comes up, click on advanced tab, then where it says break point, use the pulldown which will have all valid breakpoint markers dark/black, while non-valid Layer Break Markers will be faded) and selct one of the darkend selections.
    4.) Press burn
