.TimedOutException happens long after trans-timeout-seconds value

I'm using WL 7.0 and have <trans-timeout-seconds>5</trans-timeout-seconds> in the
weblogic-ejb-jar.xml for a remote stateless session bean. The TimedOutException
is thrown and says "Transaction timed out after 5 seconds" but only after the
EJB returns control to the calling class. I set up a test in the EJB to loop for
15 seconds and then return control. When it returns control the calling class
gets the exception. Any idea on what's going on? Below is the weblogic-ejb-jar.xml
<?xml version="1.0"?>
<!DOCTYPE weblogic-ejb-jar PUBLIC '-//BEA Systems, Inc.//DTD WebLogic 6.0.0 EJB//EN'
'http://www.bea.com/servers/wls600/dtd/weblogic-ejb-jar.dtd'>
<weblogic-ejb-jar>
<description>Common WebLogic Descriptor</description>
<weblogic-enterprise-bean>

<transaction-descriptor>
<trans-timeout-seconds>5</trans-timeout-seconds>
</transaction-descriptor>
<jndi-name>PricingSessionEJB</jndi-name>
</weblogic-enterprise-bean>
</weblogic-ejb-jar>

That means you need asynchronous prosessing not synchronous calls to EJBs.
You should instead use JMS.

So what is the purpose of the timeout if it doesn't do it until thetransaction
is really done? My application is for a web-service, and I wanted to abortthe
process if it takes longer than a certian amount of time.

finishes
its execute request. So if you set timeout to 5 seconds and execution
takes 10 minutes,
timeout handling logic identifies that a TX has taken longer thanconfigured
value *in 10
minutes* and will rollback the TX as timed out.
It's because in Java there is no way to stop a running thread forcedly.

  • How to find optimal timeout period for trans-timeout-seconds element.

    we are using Weblogic 7.0 Integration Studio,in one workflow we got "weblogic.transaction.internal.TimedOutException" and the exception text is "Transaction timed out after 1089 seconds".
    Presently we are using timeout period as 1089 seconds.
    On what basis the timeout period for transactions is specified, i.e. how the value of the <trans-timeout-seconds> is set in weblogic-ejb-jar.xml file?
    Is there any method to find the optimal value?

    You should base this on the average time your transaction typically takes. It would have to factor in the type of backend systems that you are connecting too, the type of work you are doing and any network etc issues.
    Typically 1089 seconds seems like it should be more then ENOUGH.

  • Trans-timeout-seconds

    We have a MDB which processes requests from a queue, and after a specific state is
    reached, waits for 2 mins
    and deletes a record from a table. This table is wrapped around by a CMP.
    In the MDB, We have a Thread that sleeps for a specific amount of time after the
    specific state is reached.
    It then calls the CMP to delete the record from the table. Is this a good approach?
    I could not find another way to do
    this. We tried creating an external thread pool and kick off the thread from within
    the EJB but am not
    sure if it would violate the specs. So the simplest "Thread.sleep" happens for 2
    secs and then deletes the
    record. Let me know if there is a better approach to this.
    When i do the above, I use a "Trans-timeout-seconds" in weblogic-ejb-jar.xml file
    but it doesnt look like
    its reading it. Its using the JTA Transactiontimeout but not the one in my deployment
    descriptor. I found

    Is there a fix for this yet? im using WL6.1 SP2..
    TIA

    I was using it that way but thought that was also against the specs.
    That was the reason we dropped that idea and went in for the Thread.sleep
    And is the trans-timeout-seconds tag (in weblogic-ejb-jar.xml) is not read by the
    container.
    Is there a fix for WL 6.1?
    Thanks

    In theory you're not supposed to manage threads in EJBs. This includes

    I suggest you use a server session pool (JMS) instead.
    One approach I personally think is acceptable, is to manage your threads
    separately (managed using a Singleton class, created using a startup class)
    from the MDB. This way your MDB isn't managing threads directly. This is
    a
    gray area.

  • SMS sound happening long after message appears

    So since 2.1, I'm having an odd issue. I will hear the SMS sound, and see the SMS on my phone. Then a few mins later, the sound will play AGAIN as if to say "dude, you didn't read me."
    When did that feature get implemented?

    In 2.1
    It will alert if you don't check the message a few minutes later...then will again for a third time if you still don't read it.
    After that it will stop.

  • Transaction timeout seconds and suspended trsnactions.

              All,
              Does the <trans-timeout-seconds>10</trans-timeout-seconds> in weblogic-ejb-jar.xml
              apply to transactions that are in a suspended state?
              For E.G
              I have EJB1 (Container Managed/Required) that starts transaction T1 and does some
              work then calls another ejb EJB2 (Container Managed/NotSupported) which makes
              a inter domain T3 call. Since EJB2 is configured with NotSupported transaction
              attribute, transaction T1 is suspended for the time being while the business method
              of EJB2 is executing.
              The question is if I set <trans-timeout-seconds>10</trans-timeout-seconds> for
              transactions started by EJB1, will it work? Looks like once a method on EJB2 is
              invoked, the transaction T1 is suspened and if the EJB2 method takes 30 seconds
              to execute, then transaction T1 waits untill that time despite having a transaction
              time out of 10 seconds.
              How can I exit out of the transaction T1 while its in suspened state if it takes
              more that 10 seconds for EJB2 to complete its work?
              Any suggestions are welcome and thx in advance.
              Regards,
              Dhilip.

              Dhilip,
              I had similar issue but in my case I got timeout exception once the transaction
              of first bean resumed. It seeems the timeout clock keeps on ticking even when
              the transaction is in suspended state.
              Finally I increased the timeout value of first bean to execute the process.

  • Firefox4 freezes on startup after about 10 seconds. A second parallel instance of firefox works normally as long as the first instance is left alone frozen. What causes this and how can it be prevented?

    I am running firefox4 on win XP. When I start firefox, it says it is trying to restore a previous session which has only the blank tab. After about 10 seconds the whole instance of firefox freezes - none of the buttons work and the only way to close firefox is to use the Ctrl+Alt+Del and task manager. If I open a second parallel sessionof firefox, it works normally, as long as the first session is left alone (frozen). What could be causing the freeze up of the first firefox instance, and how can it be prevented?

    I've done some research on the SQLite database. Whenever Aperture hangs up (like during auto-stack or opening the filter hud) there are thousands of SQLite queries happening. These SQLite queries cause massive file I/O because the database is stored on the disk as 1kb pages. However, the OS is caching the database file; mine's only 12MB. I'm trying to track down some performance numbers for SQLite on osx but having trouble.
    It's starting to look like most of the speed problems are in the libraries that Aperture uses instead of the actual Aperture code. Of course, that doesn't completely let the developers off the hook since they choose to use them in the first place.
    Oh, and if anyone is curious, the database is completely open to queries using the command line sqlite3 tool. Here's the language reference http://www.sqlite.org/lang.html
    Hmm, just found this. Looks like someone else has been playing around in the db http://www.majid.info/mylos/stories/2005/12/01/apertureInternals.html

  • HT201177 My new Mac Mini is plugged directly into my tv via hdmi cable and the screen will abruptly go blank and then return after a few seconds. Why is this happening?

    So I recently got a Mac Mini about two weeks ago and for some reason while I am on it the display will go blank and then return after a few seconds. It is happening very frequently. I checked the HDMI cable, I checked my tv and nothing seems to be wrong with them and I don't know what is going on.
    I am getting a bit frustrated because this Mac is brand spanking new and it is totally acting up for no reason whatsoever.
    Could someone please help me with this? I don't want my new computer to be useless. I need it.

    Which TV model do you have?
    Be aware of the fact that very many TVs do expect video signals on their HDMI inputs, not data signals from Macs or PCs. Please consult your TV manual if PCs or Macs can definitely be connected via HDMI, or if e.g. only DVI or RGB/VGA connectors are to be used.
    In case of DVI inputs for data being present, it's not a problem if an HDMI->DVI adapter, or better, cable is being used.
    Many users here are overlooking this potential reason for problems, assuming that HDMI outputs must always communicate with any HDMI input, certainly also because TV manufacturers do not "advertise" such limitations loudly.
    AV receivers with multiple HDMI inputs and a single HDMI video output to the TV are typically more "tolerant" and provide a sort of "converter" function. If present, feed a Mac's HDMI signal into the receiver, not the TV directly. If the receiver does not have enough HDMI inputs, consider to connect rather a video source (DVD player or similar) directly to the TV than the the Mac.

    I have that exact same problem! It plays albums fine. But individual songs including ones downloaded from iTunes either skip or play the music of another totally different song. All play fine on iTunes and my iPhone... Got this one to replace my dying 5th gen classic.
    I hope there is a fix for this, cause it *****!!!!

    It's in every text-input app I use in my normal day.....most frustrating as you have to do a doublecheck especially in documents which do not have any special spellcheck system. I've done the cleanmymac, maintenance, cocktail, PRAM reset, Font Cache Smash fixes.....and still I'm dogged by this. Its almost as though the motherboard or some interface system is 'sleeping' longer than it should (if there are any input areas of the MBP which rest during short periods of inactivity) and then the initial keystrokes on the keyboard are somehow not registered and only 'kick in' once half of a new word's characters are already on the screen........grrrrr.

    Two things to try to see if iphoto stops crashing.
    1. From your preferences directory drag com.apple.iPhoto.plist to your desktop and loaunch iphoto to see if it fixes your problem.  I'm a little leary of doing this since all your iphoto preferences will be recreated from scratch.  So if this experiment doesn't work replace the recreated one in Preferences with the old original one you dragged on to your desktop.
    2. Boot in safe mode.  Play with iphoto a little bit to see if it fails.  Whether it fails or not reboot normally.  Safe mode will suppress all third party additions, your login items, as well as doing a little bit of cleaning (e.g., some caches).  So it will be interesting to know if iphoto runs in safe mode and then after rebooting normally.

    After applying update my apple tv2 will randomly go to a black screen that lasts for a few seconds. When it gets back to normal after a few seconds it acts like the video never stopped since its farther along in the timeline. This happens with all video content wether its from Netflix or streaming from my iTunes library

    You might try restarting the Apple TV by removing ALL the cables for a 30 seconds. If that doesn't help try using another HDMI cable.

    In the worst case, it's still under warranty (all 7th gen nanos are still under one year from purchase).
    So, you disconnect it from power, and it almost immediately goes dead?  You can try a Restore... but it doesn't sound like the type of problem a Restore will fix.
    You should probably have it looked by Apple Tech Support.  If there's an Apple Store nearby, you can take it to the store's Genius Bar.  To avoid waiting, you can make a reservation at the store's web page

  • HT2492 I open dashboard and after a few seconds it transfers me to twitter how can I prevent this happening

    I open dashboard on Macbook ans after a few seconds it transfers me to Twitter how do I prevent this happening?

    Back up all data.
    In the Finder, hold down the option key and select
    Go ▹ Library
    from the menu bar. From the Library folder, move the following item to the Trash, if it exists:
    Caches/com.apple.dashboard.client
    and move the following items to the Desktop:
    Preferences/com.apple.dashboard.client.plist
    Preferences/com.apple.dashboard.plist
    Log out, log back in, and test. If you still have the issue, put the items on the Desktop back where they came from and post again. Otherwise, delete the items.

    That is very strange! Have you been able to get your apps icons back now? Have you attempted a soft reset by holding the power button and home button at the same time until the phone restarts? Keep me posted with the results!
