Tiny iWeb slideshow in iWeb 08

Hello, I just upgraded to iWeb 08 and realized that the former slideshow function on photo pages (black background with reflection) now shows very small versions of my photos, more like thumbnails than the actual photos, and in any case much smaller than before – which makes the slideshow unviewable, or with very limited interest. Heck, the controls (pause, play, forward, etc.) are nearly as big as the pictures! Strange because in the photo page (index) if you click on a picture you get a large version (with a new strip of the photos above it, which makes it redundant with the slideshow). What a mess! I checked out photo pages by other users and noticed the same reduction in size of the pics in slideshows.
Question: Are other users also noticing this? Is there any setting to get back to the same dimension of photos in slideshows? Should I re-import my pictures?
Thanky you for any feedback!

This problem is discussed in a couple other threads:
http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=1106210
http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=1090329
Given the high proliferation of laptops, I'm surprised that the slideshow works so poorly on a laptop. The slide show is essentially thumbnails. Previous iWeb version made great use of the entire screen independent of what type of display whether a large desktop monitor or smaller laptop display.
Use the feedback link below to let Apple know that this is a serious shortcoming of the new iWeb:

  • Sometimes PNG thumbnails are tiny and image displays tiny in slideshow

    I switched to Bridge CS4 in hopes of fixing this problem, and it got much better, but every now and then one or two of my PNGs will still get stuck in what I call "tiny mode" where the thumbnail preview remains set at a fixed tiny size no matter how you adjust the thumbnail preview size slider.  When you view the image in slideshow mode it displays as tiny.  On the thumbnail page no dimensions will display below an image in tiny mode.  I can open it in Photoshop CS3 and everything looks fine and the image is full size.  What am I doing wrong?

    First thing to try when thumbs don't display properly is to purge the cache. Point Bridge to the folder with troubled thumbs and use the tools menu / cache / purge cache for folder.

  • Iweb slideshow image size

    The "Play Slideshow" option in iWeb Photo pages actually shows my photos same size or even smaller than the photos on the page. They look tiny in the middle of the large black modern viewer..
    Why is this? If I chose to click directly on one of the photos, another "inline" viewer appears, and here the photos are larger - as I would expect them to be in the slideshow.
    I am very found of the iWeb fotopages that lets me make real photo albums with title text (as in the old "Homepage". I have tried to upload Large (high quality) photos, but this does not increase the size of the photos in the slideshow.
    What is wrong here? Can anyone give me some input on these settings please? Thanks!

    I believe the maximum dimension size of Photo Album Slideshows is 800 pixels. So anything larger will only display at 800 pixels.

    How do I Create a slideshow in Iweb with arrows to right and left, just like this link:

    Thanks in advance!

    It's done with java script. Here is one example on this demo page: AutoViewer which is created in iPhoto with the Flash Album Exporter plugin.
    Another source is Jalbum. It have over 100 skins/themes, one of which should match what you want.

  • I am busy making a website with iweb. Do you know if it is possible to make a page with a slideshow which does not contain jpg's but other documents?

    I am busy making a website with iweb. Can I only make a page with a slideshow containing jpg's? I would like to make a (pages) document with pictures and have this as a slideshow. Is that possible?

    If you use Keynote rather than Pages you can export as HTML to get a slideshow...
    http://www.iwebformusicians.com/Banner-Slideshow/HTML-Slideshow.html
    Or you can use a JQuery slider that will display text, images, movies etc...

  • Is there a way to use a different slideshow on all iWeb Photo pages?

    I am getting real tired of the iWeb slideshow. Hard to adjust the timing, scales automatically even when you don't want it to, etc...
    I did some searching on this site and a few people, such as Old Toad are mentioning SimpleViewer or Jalbum. But it sounds like it has to be setup individually for each page by modifying the html file in idisk/resources, etc...
    While that would be fine for just a few pages,I have a photo blog with about 20 pages that are constantly been updated and more are added each week. I would like to be able to automatically change the default iWeb slide show to something better like Jalbum. Is there a way to do that by simply adding an html snippet on each page in iWeb directly? And if so, what would that code be for the Bananalbum as shown on OT's demo page?
    Thank you very much indeed.

    Hard to adjust the timing
    that can be changed: http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?messageID=5199553
    if you use iweb blog/podcast/photos and album templates then you need to know that they are rendered by javascript/AJAX... so you can use javascript/AJAX to alter them, slideshow and what not.
    Here are some of my examples:

    http://cyclosaurus.com/iWeb3Widgets/Highslide/PhotosPage.html

    they were built in iweb with my widgets, no pre-processing, no post editing, no flash.

  • Adding a Flash-Type Slideshow in iWeb

    I want to add a slideshow to my home page, but not the kind of slideshow that has a bar of thumbnails and an enlarged version of the selected image. I'd like a frame that automatically plays a slideshow of images that play for a few seconds with a simple transition. Is this something I can create in iMovie and then import or even in iPhoto? I know you can't use Flash itself, which is fine since I don't know the program, although I'd learn it for this purpose if it was possible to use it.
    All thoughts are appreciated. If interested, the site is www.jrcphoto.net
    Thanks

    Jim ~ You can create a QuickTime movie slideshow in iPhoto. Here's an example of a fast loading, looping embedded slideshow (not mine):
    http://www.heese-cadieux.com
    ...and done like this:
    iPhoto > select photos > File > Export... > QuickTime tab ...set width and height, etc.
    Then iWeb > Media button > Movies tab ...drag in your movie created above by iPhoto.
    Then iWeb > Inspector > QuickTime tab ...settings.
    Note: The above generates a QT slideshow of small file size and thus appears quickly in a web browser.

  • Why Can't I  get the slideshow to work in iWeb?

    I recently created and purchased a photo book successfully. I made a pdf of the book and saved it to iPhoto. I can't get the slideshow to work. Keeps telling me to drag photos somewhere, but they are already posted. If I click I can get to the spot where you can move to the next one—but no slideshow!
    I have watched the slideshow(2x's) that is listed in this topic. I thought I was doing as it said—but no luck.
    Anyone with ideas??

    Patti:
    Read Steps 1-5 of Tutorial #6a at Old Toad's Tutorials for a way to get a book's pages into iPhoto as jpg files which can then be used to create an iWeb slideshow like I've done here.
    TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto (iPhoto.Library for iPhoto 5 and earlier) database file and keep it current. If problems crop up where iPhoto suddenly can't see any photos or thinks there are no photos in the library, replacing the working Library6.iPhoto file with the backup will often get the library back. By keeping it current I mean backup after each import and/or any serious editing or work on books, slideshows, calendars, cards, etc. That insures that if a problem pops up and you do need to replace the database file, you'll retain all those efforts. It doesn't take long to make the backup and it's good insurance.
    I've created an Automator workflow application (requires Tiger or later), iPhoto dB File Backup, that will copy the selected Library6.iPhoto file from your iPhoto Library folder to the Pictures folder, replacing any previous version of it. It's compatible with iPhoto 6 and 7 libraries and Tiger and Leopard. Just put the application in the Dock and click on it whenever you want to backup the dB file. iPhoto does not have to be closed to run the application, just idle. You can download it at Toad's Cellar. Be sure to read the Read Me pdf file.
    Note: There's now an Automator backup application for iPhoto 5 that will work with Tiger or Leopard.

  • How do i create a slideshow with arrows in iweb

    i want to create a "slideshow" that allows the user to move forward and backward using arrows at their own pace rather than a looping slideshow they cannot control.

    if you have iwe2 or iwe3 then you can use iweb photos page pop up slideshow.
    when your users pop up the slideshow, they can mouse-over the slideshow image and a slideshow will show up to allow them to pause/play, next and prev image.
    it also has thumbnails row on top, your users can selectively display and image.

  • Slideshows on Gallery and iWeb

    Can I send a slideshow to either or both my .Mac Gallery or iweb site so others can view it?

    Yes and no. You can send your slideshow to iWeb to be included into an iWeb page. But for a web gallery you have to start with an album of photos (they can be the same album that you used to start your slideshow) and then create a web gallery from it. In essence you can have the same pictures in both items but they will slightly different. The web gallery will not have any of the fancy stuff you can put in a slideshow. Also the slideshow will be larger and take longer to load for anyone viewing that iWeb site.
    Do you Twango?

  • How do I Add Music to the Slideshow in photos in Iweb

    How do I add a song from my itunes library to play while viewing the slideshow portion of my photos in Iweb'09? I have tried this numerous times throughout the day today but am getting nowhere.
    Also, can I add a video portion of the Letterman Top Ten list to a page in my Iweb?
    Thanks

    That's not an option with iWeb. You can add a song to the photos page that will play automatically (and loop if desired) that would continue to play when the viewer clicks on the slideshow button. This demo page has such a setup.
    I don't remember if Cyclosaurus (our resident javascript expert) had posted a solution via javascript and an HTML snippet. You might search the entire iWeb forums for posts by Cyclosaurus with a topic of slideshow music or something similar.

  • IWeb published to .mac- slideshow not working

    The slideshow and 'click to enlarge' features are not working. The button is there, but nothing happens when I (or anyone) click on them. How do I activate these functions?
    Also, I downloaded Moble Me, but I don't think I activated it because when I saw the features, they do not apply to me. (Will iPhones ever work with Verizon?) Do I need to activate it anyway? Is the fee the same as my .mac account? I was able to publish from iWeb to .mac, just . . . (see paragraph above).

    Never mind . . . it didn't work yesterday, but is today for some reason.

  • How can I change the Slideshow in iWeb 08???

    I've searched and searched and don't see to find an answer - I used to swap out slide show assets in iWeb 06 for a much better way of navigating through my photos. That's no longer an option in 08 - anyone have any alternative slideshows for 08?
    In 06, the alternative would pop up on top of the screen and the user could then click on the left or right of the pix to move -
    I hate the new slideshow - too long to load and the images are too small.

    Here's what I'm talking about...
    http://www.jeffulrich.com/photography/bluebonnets.html
    if you hit slideshow or any of the pictures, there's a secondary window that pops up for a much cleaner experience. I'd like to get that back in iWeb 08 - now I'm understanding that it uses Java and it's completely different.
    Just wish there were some other alternatives - I really don't like to Out of Box slideshow.

  • Slideshows in iweb

    Hello. I made a slideshow in iphoto. How do you put it into an iweb website and be able to use the features for slideshows in the inspector of iweb? Thanks.

    As pointed out above, the features for slideshows in iWeb's inspector are for slideshows generated from iWeb — not from iPhoto. But you can put your iPhoto slideshow in any iWeb template page by doing the following...
    Select your slideshow in iPhoto's panel on the left. Click on File > Export... and save the QT movie file to the Desktop. Then drag that .mov file from the Desktop to an iWeb page (any template). Then, to control your slideshow movie's appearance and behavior when it's viewed in a browser, click on iWeb's QuickTime Inspector tab.
    By the way, you can create a more efficient slideshow movie in iPhoto by selecting the photos you want included in the slideshow and choosing File > Export > QuickTime tab. As above, you would then drag the movie file to an iWeb page. With this approach you won't have so many configurable options, but the resulting slideshow movie file will be very small and thus quick to appear when your web page is viewed.

  • Flash xml slideshow in iWeb not working

    Hallo
    I am really struggling to get a Flash xml slideshow to work.  I have used Flash Slideshow Maker app, which creates a slide.xml, .swf and .html file and everything is published in one folder "slideshow" on a local disk.
    I am using the following code and it works perfectly when viewed in iWeb:
    <OBJECT classid="clsid:D27CDB6E-AE6D-11cf-96B8-444553540000" codebase="http://download.macromedia.com/pub/shockwave/cabs/flash/swflash.cab#version=6,0, 40,0"
    WIDTH="920" HEIGHT="400" id="Phambili">
    <PARAM NAME=movie VALUE="/Users/elsjevanzyl/Documents/Websites/Published Websites/Phambili/Slideshow/Phambili.swf?xml_path=slides.xml">

    <PARAM NAME="wmode" value="transparent">
    <PARAM NAME=base VALUE=".">
    <EMBED src="/Users/elsjevanzyl/Documents/Websites/Published Websites/Phambili/Slideshow/Phambili.swf?xml_path=slides.xml" quality=high  wmode="transparent" WIDTH="920" HEIGHT="400"

    PLUGINSPAGE="http://www.macromedia.com/go/getflashplayer" base=".">
    </EMBED>
    </OBJECT>
    But as soon as I publish it to FTP with following code, it displays the slideshow but NOT the photos or thumbs:
    <OBJECT classid="clsid:D27CDB6E-AE6D-11cf-96B8-444553540000" codebase="http://download.macromedia.com/pub/shockwave/cabs/flash/swflash.cab#version=6,0, 40,0"

    PLUGINSPAGE="http://www.macromedia.com/go/getflashplayer" base=".">
    </EMBED>
    </OBJECT>
    I have also tried iFrame code, but this is not working at all.
    Can anybody tell me what I am doing wrong when publishing the above code to FTP?
    Any help will be appreciated.
