Title background in 16:9

I am trying to build a title in a NTSC 16:9 project.  I am using a JPEG as the background.  The image size is 720x480.  I have unchecked "scale to frame size" in the background clip.  The background does not fill the 16:9 Monitor window.  It is tall enough but not wide enough.  How can I get the background to exactly fill the Monitor window within PRE7 or do I need to modify the source JPEG first in PSE7?  What is the size for 16:9?
Thanks for any help.

Because the Aspect Ratio (PAR in this case) is off, between the image and the Project, Scale to Fit is actually working correctly. The height is matching in both. Probably the easiest way to handle this would be to Rt-click on the image in the Project Panel and chose Interpret Footage. Set the PAR to 1.2 (NTSC Widescreen) from 0.9 (NTSC 4:3). You can also take your image into Photoshop (PS) and change the PAR, or Crop as necessary to fit.
Before I Import any still images into Pr, I always size them in PS to match my Projects' setting.
Good luck,

  • Title Background Transparency Doesn't Work

    Hello,
I can't get the title background transparency to work. I'm running Premiere CS6 6.04. Clicking on the background button does nothing. Sometimes, I can randomly change the background settings to get it to become transparent, but that is not working now. Very frustrating.

This is me setting up a title. The cursor is on the spot on the timeline that has a red christmas background. Everything appears normal.
When I close this window, and move the title onto the timeline this happens. I haven't touched anything else (including the cursor location)

  • How can I change the title backgrounds in a project from a converted movie trailer theme?

I converted a movie trailer theme (action) to a movie. The title backgrounds are all red but I like the effects. I would like the background color to be blue. Thanks for your help!

Unfortunately I tried doing a swap with a color background and it looks like it doesn't let you just drag a replacement background in. So the best you can expect is to drag a color background from the Map tool browser (it has a globe icon on it) and drag it next to the background you want to use, set the duration to be the same length. Drag the tite block to the new color background clip. Then delete the background from the original Movie trailer version.

  • Upgrade to imovie 6 from 3.0.3, now title backgrounds are purple!?

    Hello all,
I have been using imovie 3.0.3 for sometime and have just ugraded to imovie HD 6.0.
I opened a finished project into 6 and now my title backgrounds are purple and the actual video clips look "different". I'm guessing this has something to do with the HD part, but I really don't know for sure. Can anyone clue me in as to, at least, why my title backgrounds are now purple instead of black?
Thanks in advance for any and all advice:)

I'm back with the same weird purple results. Here's what I've done...
I created a slideshow in iPhoto from an existing album of photos before the iLife06 upgrade. I manually applied the Ken Burns to each photo. All the pictures looked fine. I then exported the slideshow to a quicktime movie.
I imported this movie into IM6 so I could extract the audio in order to add more songs. When I previewed the movie, the "purple haze" was there again! The preview screen was completely purple and each photo seemed to have a "light purple" overlay creating a definate purple tint.
I have not burned this yet. When I burned a dvd before, all was ok in the end.
I have also not created a completely new project using new photos. I will try this and see if the results are different.
In my limited knowledge, could it be a problem with the original photos? Or, could it be something to do with screen resolution as it pertains to IM6? I use a 20" Apple Display.
Any advice or troubleshooting steps would be greatly appreciated.

  • Title-background-skin examples

    Hi
    I am trying to apply a Gradient to a Panel's titlebar's CSS.
I believe I need to use the title-background-skin CSS property.
I cannot find ANY examples of this on the internet. Nor can I find much in Adobe's documentation.
Where can I see how to apply Gradients to a Panel's title? Is this impossible? I am starting to believe so...
I did find this on StackOverFlow:
    http://stackoverflow.com/questions/1215433/creating-a-flex-panel-header-with-a-gradient
^ but that doesnt explain how to skin the title bar? Any ideas?

  • FCP X freezes on title background rendering?

Turned rendering off to animate title. every time I turn on background render FCPX will stop responding.
Working on a new iMac i5 with 8 gigs memory. it should be flowing. what's the deal?
Will re-organizing my Font library or removing fonts help? (some fonts can be troublesome)
    Suggestions anyone?
Please no crybaby remarks about the new FCPX. we've heard them all. get over it.

I think it's safe to say that FCPX wasn't tested throroughly for use on anything.
with that out of the way, there are many variables as to what might cause your problems, but I don't think it's the mac mini as long as it meets the specified minimum requirements (especially the graphics card).
You might try creating a camera archive first and then importing from that.
The other issue might be the file format itself; you might need to use Clipwrap first. Maybe someone who has the same camera can chime in.

  • How can I change the color of a title background?

    Hi,
I am using the green background for my titles, but would like to make it a darker green. Is there a way to use the color palette to change the shade of the background color?
    Thanks!

haven't found this option yet, but would be a nice-to-have feature:
    http://www.apple.com/feedback/imovie.html
    workaround for now:
use any paint app on your Mac (Photoshop/Express, Pixelmator, Graficconverter, 'abuse' Keynote, ... ) to create a background of your likes&needs. import that jpeg into iM, add title..
this technique allows very unique and individual titles, far beyond iM's limitations.
using 'external' apps for creating titles allows even 'impossible' effects as pictures in scrolling titles, read Aaron's advice (his site is worth a read..) :

  • Changing title background?

    PRE 7
If I start off by dragging title generic1_title to the timeline (as a blue swirly background), I get a title added to my project as expected.
Question: If I don't like the background behind the title text, can I change it somehow? I can't seem to find a way to modify the background of the included titles.
    Bruce.

    Bruce,
I do not know of any way to change the
    i Background
image in a preset Title. Unfortunately, I have never found any way to edit a PRTL (Title) file - Photoshop (and nothing else that I have found) will not do it.
However, the best way to do this is to find a a "blank" Title, where you like the style of the text and use it over any "background" image that you want, thus creating the same effect.
Using the same principle, you can go to the menu bar and choose Title>Default Still, then work on your text, adding treatments to it. Place it over the image of your choice and you have the same thing.
For Ed, this is how I'd recommend creating your CC Titles. In the Titler, you can create various Shapes below your text to get what I think you are asking for.
For heavy Style application, one could create a Title as an Image in Photoshop. Choose the appropriate File>New preset for your Project's preset. You can bring in any other image as your "background," and then add the text with the Type Tool. There, you can do any number of Style modifications to the Type Layer. You can also add any number of Shapes and other graphic effects. Save your PSD (with all Layers intact), then Save_As and choose TIFF, unless you need transparency. For that, I'd probably go with PNG, but TGA should give you what you want. Import that into PE. You could also "punch holes" in the TIFF (not really using transparency), by doing something with the Track Matte Effect.
PE's Titler is nice, but lacks some power. P-Pro's is not that much different, or better. The "library" Titles, etc., are often good starting points, but one can do so very much more in Photoshop (even the PSE version), that I find it to be a better tool, when doing anything out of the ordinary.
There are also 3rd party Titlers, like Bluff Titler and ProDAD's Heroglyph Titler. These really come into their own when one is animating the Titles. For general purpose Titles, I always go to Photoshop. These can also have a little animation, just nothing quite like the 3rd party apps. Actually, PE's text-animation tools do more than P-Pro can do without a lot of manually placed Keyframes.

  • Applying effect to title background mask?

I am trying to create a title for FCPX 10.1.4 with Motion 5 (the latest version).
I want it to be a lower third with a blurred background so that the footage is still identifiable but doesn't distract from the text. Imagine this like a normal lower third with a rectangular background the text is projected on, just that the background is not a solid color but the blurry image of what's underneath. I used a Gaussian blur effect for the footage and a mask that fades in and out, unfortunately this leaves me with a black background in FCPX and the only thing visible is a small portion of the background, blurred and beneath the title. I would like the black background to be the normal background and not the black color. None of the compositing settings seem to work. I tried adding a drop zone but unfortunately that adds a second source and it's very complicated to pick exactly the footage that lies underneath the title when it appears. The background color in Project Settings has no effect on the title so when I set that to white the outcome is still a black screen.

Easy.  You can't duplicate the Text Template background layer, but you can make a Clone layer of it.  Put the Clone layer on top!  Apply the Gaussian Blur to that Clone layer, and then use the Crop tool to crop it down to where you want it.  I'd still put a drop shadow on the text, though.
Anything you do to the original layer gets done to the Clone, but what you do to a  Clone is NOT transferred to the original layer.

  • How change back the title background color? All are appearing white and null too.

When I put in the timeline all background titles, there are appearing white when the normal is black. When I open in Motion 5, there are all correct, color black. Background title black and words white. How can I resolve it?? Null is appearing white too.

  • Title background question

I was wondering if imovie/FCE/FC has a certain background for titles. The one that is black mesh, that has little holes throughout.
I need it for a project & just need to know which product has it before I purchase.
    Any idea?

You can import any image as a background that you want, as long as it's in the proper format (see user's manual for details). You can also use a color matte generator or video clip as a background.

  • Title background not editable

I have successfully been using "New Title Based on Current Title Title but now that ediitng functionality has become glitched:
         1)   Old color field background cannot be removed. Title > Select [Delete} either removes existing titling or adds old titling back, but in no case permits the deletion of the existing background so it can be replaced.
         2)   Sometimes the new name given FOR the new title disappears and is replaced by the old title name and then any changes that have been made for the supposedly new title are put onto the old title, thus destroying the old title.
         3)   Even File > New > Title  no longer brings up a blank titler, but is similarly stuck with the last title completed and won't allow background changes.
         4)       Often "Select" in Title > Select is greyed out.
This function is very important here so any help will be greatly appreciated.

That was a huge help, Harm. Your answers to 1, 2 and 3 saved a title-heavy project, and many more to come. Without that being solved I was beginning to consider abandoning Premiere Pro for the competition.
#4 - "Select" being grayed out - refers to almost everything in the Title drop-down menu sometimes being turned light gray and hence non-responsive to clicks. That still happens sometimes.

  • Premiere 9.0 locks source files for still images and title background

I am using Adobe Premiere 9.0
In this version - I hjave used two previous - I have problem while uppdating images inserted in timeline and backgrounds of titles. While editing them in Photoshop I get a file lock error. Either i have to:
Close Premiere, edit file and then restart
Last time I did this I had problem to get image updated within Premiere. It still showed wrong image in timeline and while rendering but image gallery showed right image
or I have to save to a new filename and then insert image/background once again in timeline/title (that takes some time - pew!)
I had the same problem in three different installations of my laptop and two different hardwares. Last laptop and installation is about two weeks old. It is a brand new Dell with WIndows XP. Adobe Premiere 9.0. All sourcefiles is on my own harddrive - nothing on the netdrives.
    Any ideas?

Abotu operating system - I am in the hands of IT dept
They are planning upgrading to Windows 7. But not within the timeframe of current projects.
The image imitation I wasn´t aware of. Is that a definied/stated limitation in Adobe Premiere? To me the intuitive image size while working with 1920 x 1080 screen is making images in same size.
The laptop is completely new. I am definitely sure about a non-defraged-disc. 92 GB used 306 GB free.
It dept say the hardware should be sufficient. Even the earlier laptop they tried to get working had enough capacity due to the stated demands Adobe have.

  • Editing titles background and texts

I'm trying to change the background color/picture of a title in iMovie as well as the text. If I have a long sentence I want to put on the page for the title but can't figure out a way to make the text bigger. In some of the effects (like scrolling with a pause for example) it gives you two lines. If your line is really long then it automatically makes your text small and can't be read on a small screen. I can't figure out how to make the text larger (and yes I have used the size slider thingy) except putting it on two different lines, but I need to add more lines so that the text can be even larger for a longer title.
Make any sense? How do I add more lines when it only gives you two to begin with?
    Thanks,
    bcAddy

You can change the background color of a title by creating a color clip and then overlaying the title on the clip. Here's how you do it: In the time line, separate two clips to make a space. Then switch to the movie clips line, and you will see the space you created displayed as if it were a black clip. Control click on the black clip, and select Convert Empty Space to Clip from the drop down menu. That will create a Color Clip. Control click on the color clip, and select Show Info from the resulting drop down menu. A Clip Info box will come up, and from there you can change the color and duration of the clip. Change the color by clicking on the little black color box, which then will display a color wheel where you can chose the color that you want the clip to be. Then go to the titles pane, create your title, deselect the "over black" box, drag the title in front of your newly created color clip, and it will overlay the color clip. If you dragged the title in front of a photo or video clip, it would overlay that clip to give you a picture background as long as the "over black" box is deselected.
As for the text, I just use the "scrolling block" title. You can type as many words as you want, and they will be readable size. Makes life simple.

  • What are some good resources for title backgrounds and graphics to support titles?

Like you know when a video plays and a person name appears as they are speaking. Sometimes there is a graphic like bar behind the name. Just to give it some life. I know I can easily make a simple bar but is there a place I can find graphics for video like this?
    Maybe with some animations?
Or in general some good tools for video editors.
    Thanks!

    Hi Kg_himself,
You may want to learn how to do such things in After Effects. There are lots of tutorials around the internet on how to do that. Specifically, check out the "Fractal Noise" effect. You can make a wide variety of background very quickly with that effect.
    Thanks,
    Kevin
